Recommended ROM For Sprint's Touch Pro (CDMA)? - Touch Pro, Fuze ROM Development

Hi All,
before you jump on the bandwagon asking me to read the wiki or searhc, i already did that. However, all the results I got are specific to "Raphael" and not necessarily the Sprint CDMA version.
The stock ROM that comes with the Sprint Touch Pro really really really sucks. I even truend off / killed TouchFlo 3d and still have all kinds of problems.
I'd like a leaner quicker / more efficient rom, so the question is twfold
1.) How exactly do I go about unlocking the SPL to allow 3rd party ROMs?
2.) Which ROM would be recommended?
Thanx beforehand!

You might do better if you posted this in the forum specifically for CDMA version of the Raphael.
Its literally the sub forum above this one.

shassouneh,
I think CDMA TP have a different way of doing it...
Notice that all the ROM's in this particular forum are for GSM phones...
crazyC is right... post this thread in de CDMA one...
Mods: you should move this thread...

Thanx
THanx for the replies guys. Much appreciated. I actually considered posting it there but figured this is a ROM-related question so should be posted here. Since I am asking for a recommendation on which CDMA-compatible ROM / flashing method to use, I think it makes sense to keep it here just as much as it does to move it to the CDMA section.
Thoughts?
I could still use advise on my original ask.

I still think you are in the wrong forum.
A quick glance through the CDMA forum suggests that:
1. HARDspl is different for your phone to the GSM one, and that there are device specific variants, where as GSM phones just have the one. PPCGeeks maybe the best place for CDMA phones.
2. using a GSM rom will break your phone, and so you should be looking at the ROMS posted in the CDMA forum here or at PPCGeeks, both for the roms and for advice about them.
3. Posting here you risk getting advice from people who do not understand the differences bewteen the cdma and GSM phones (I am not clear about it - why would I be - we don't have CDMA phones over here).
4. Most people reading this particular forum will have GSM phones and have little knowledge to answer your question with. For a higher chance of getting your thread read by people who might have a good answer, I still think the other forum would be better.
But hey, this is a free world and this is just my advice.
Also, questions about which is the best rom are not usually treated very politely around here - once you have hardspl'd your phone, it is a case of read the thread with the ROMS in, pick one that gets good feedback and then try it. And another till you can settle on one. Everyone has different tastes and requirements. Of course, the next step is to start cooking - it gets very addictive. Then you get grief from your girlfriend/wife, then the arguments start about so much time on the computer......

Mod's move to CDMA...This is probably a good point for folks to see over on that thread, as more and more of us over here in the good old NA start catching on that HTC has the goods!

Yeah, I know it can be a bit confusing, we don't have a ROM thread directly under the CDMA tab. Most GSM folks live here at XDA; I know I know it's not all GSM, but ROM development is really heavy for GSM users.

Totally agree, it's garbage. After flashing even KK's loaded ROM which has 100's more applications, TF3D is even more snappy than the stock Sprint.

Mighty Mike's Lean version is very nice, but it's really personal choice. There are too many to really Tell someone what to use. Install that one, play with it for a week, then install KK's, then play with that for a week, then install xWeapons, etc.
Now go to the CDMA world of ROM's:

No problem,
and yes, as other's have posted DO NOT instlal any of the GSM stuff, you will screw up your phone something fierce.
You can also update your Radio to 1.11.00F and get better batery life, it got rid of the overheat issue for me when WIFIing, and just better recieption, IMHO.
http://forum.ppcgeeks.com/showthread.php?t=46616
Two ways to update:
You can update via the EXE's that come pre-packaged with damn near all the ROM's
or
You can rename the nbh file to RAPHIMG.nbh, copy that to the root of your SD card and bootload from there.
HOLD ALL 3
Volume Down
Power Button
Stylus Reset
Boot loader will pop up, then follow on-screen instructions.
Works for radio too.
Make sure you unlock 1st though!!
Enjoy.
Oops, almost forgot, this is an excellent resource:

Hi Chaz,
Were you able to connect EvDO after updating the ROM? My TP is only connecting 1x >: GRR

ROMS FOR CDMA Version of Raphael?

Ok, sorry to ask a silly question that I am sure is all over this thread.
The reason i dont find it, its because I am a HTC Tilt user and familiar with that section.
Are there no roms yet for the CDMA version? Sprint?
If so can someone post a link what HARD SPL to use and where are the roms? I dont see any in this CDMA section?

I believe most of the CDMA Roms are all good for each of our vendor specific devices. You have to make sure you use the carrier specific unlocker but after that, you "should" be good to go.
It will always say (at least most times) in the rom thread what carrier it was developed and tested under and other compatible carriers as well.

Not correct. The same SPL unlocker may be applied to the same device. The Sprint, Telus, and Bell Touch Pros are all the same devices and may use the same unlocker and ROMs. The Verizon device is a different hardware model.

In addition to the ROM, some carrier specific settings may be incorporated into the ROM build or after flashing with a specific carrier CAB.

Are you guys looking under a rock? TP Roms don't fit under rocks.
There are a handful of excellent roms and detailed instructions (that you will need) on how to unlock your devices and flash to a new rom.
Please visit www.PPCGeeks.com in the Touch Pro Upgrades forum to be precise, and you will find ALL the information you are looking for.
I have enough sense to type ppcgeeks' url address in my web browser and search for roms. Last I checked this was xda-developers, I was hoping to find a good Alltel rom HERE.
I'm using Conflipper's latest Alltel rom from ppcgeeks, and it works great. But like all flashing junkies, I need my next fix. I was hoping I'd find something new over here. I wish DCD would ditch his Titan and get a Touch Pro. He made my Mogul an almost tolerable device. I can only imagine what he could do with a phone like the Touch Pro.

Too Bad it's Down!
Yes, there are some great ROMS over there, but why are there none here? What if PPC geeks was to go down or something ? lol
I'm using one from Juicy (his last) that I'm getting 2 days of battery life out of, with my normal apps and hotmail pushing. I can skip a night of charging before bed and I still have a phone! Woot!

Rather than selfishly complaining about others not serving you -- why don't YOU contribute to the XDA-Wiki for links to CDMA ROMs...?
The gimme attitude of some is bothersome to many developers who spent their own time for the benefit of the community.

I don't have a "gimme" attitude. If I were demanding that someone from xda-developers make me an alltel rom, that would be a gimme attitude. I simply wanted to know if there were any available on the forum, and if so, WHERE.
Wasn't selfishly complaining about not being served either. Actually, I was bragging about how great DCD's roms are, and hoping out loud that he makes one for the TOUCH PRO.

I'm using Juicy's 4.7 ROM but you will not be able to find it on PPCGeeks because Microsoft shut him down!!!!
I think they said that he had something from there Win Mobile 7 in his ROM...... but don't quote me.
All I can say is that I was one of the lucky ones that got to download it before it was removed and like the comment was made earlier, I have at least 2 days of battery life and that with using the my phone on a regular!!! and pushing email.
It's great!!!!
Try Dream's ROM it is really good also.

Can the ROMs that don't say whether they are GSM or CDMA be used for either one?

My question is, I see the CDMA ONLY rom section but there is only 1 ROM in there. I can't get my sound or notifications to work so I have to try another one or stick with the stock ROM. I need sound and notifications or I will not hear when my stuff arrives and like yesterday, I missed a lot.
Can any of the ROMs that don't say whether they are for GSM ONLY? Or can I not use a single ROM in the Raphael ROM development section? If my question is confusing let me know. I have the sprint HTC Touch Pro(CDMA), and I would like to try one of these ROMs that don't say GSM only... Some of the ROMS don't designate which one they will only work on.
I don't wanna brick my phone so any help would be greatly appreciated... Maybe everyone should designate if it's CDMA, GSM, or both so that no one bricks their phone just for that reason.
Thanks for the help and I appreciate all the work. If I find a ROM that i'll use... I will definitely donate.
Dan
Unless they specifically say they are CDMA, assume they are GSM. There isn't a ROM that can work on both tmk.

Yea, most here are GSM, I suggest you check out PPC Geeks, they are mostly CDMA and have quite a few ROM's over there. Thats the best advice I can give you!
Thanks very very much for your answers guys. I absolutely love djbeames CDMA Rom but I just need the sounds and notifications. I beleive he is having progress. I like ya'lls work and responses as I've said, i've been using this site for over a year now. I may check out ppc-geeks but ultimately my final ROM choice will be from XDA.
Sorry if I posted a thread with an already answered question. I always use the search function and this is propbably my first thread since i've started using this site over a year ago.
I've read a lot but there's more and more and more. I plan to read it all but I just didn't have time to look through a bunch of pages or text to find an answer that I couldn't find in the search function. Thought it would be ok if I just made a quick thread asking. Next time I'll probably PM one of you guys.
Thanks for the responses, later guys.

I know you said that you really like xda (I don't blame you) but i have to +1 that ppc geeks recommendation. It seems like they are pretty much the opposite of what you find here in that the majority of their work is for cdma rather than gsm.

What's the difference?

Usually I'm really good at figuring things out myself, but I've just gotta ask:
What's the difference between the custom ROMs?
I'm using Fresh right now, but I might as well have spun a wheel and picked at random. I tried browsing each thread, but couldn't find any useful hints as to what it's about. Is it just speed?
I understand that 2.1 is under development and not fully functional, so what is MCR, Fresh, Modaco?
MCR and Modaco are the same MCR = Modaco Custom ROM.
It is just a rom made by Paul O'Brien at http://hero.modaco.com
Really it's another custom ROM, just personal preference dictates which you use. Personally, I use MCR3.0, although there is a beta of 3.1 available for ad-free members of his site, and it will be publicly released when ready.
So the difference between Fresh and Modaco is...?
Fresh is a CDMA Rom, so you'd probably be better off asking this in the CDMA subforum.

Dave

You could try and search for yourself, or at least be gratefull for the things Anon and others say
You're not gonna ask here how you're able to flash the motorola droid are you?
Cos the cdma hero is another phone. It has a dedicated subforum and people
who own a gsm hero (the folks over here) can't tell the difference because a CDMA version doesn't work on a GSM hero.
It's easy to blame others for not searching yourself, these people are trying to help. The only thing you want is a list of pro's and con's....
Considering custom roms are made to fit personal needs no one is gonna make a list good enough for you.
Search before you ask

I did! I advised you to ask the question in the subforum for the CDMA Hero, but you decided to ignore that advice.
A little history lesson for you - the Hero forums existed long before the CDMA Hero was released by Sprint. Once Sprint had released their version of the Hero, Sprint users lobbied long and hard for a CDMA subforum (which they've now got). To be honest, the Sprint Hero probably deserved its own set of forums rather than just a subforum, just the Verizon Droid Eris did.
The *reason* that I advised you to go there is because most of the ROM discussions outside of the CDMA subforum is related to the GSM Hero. If you'd flashed MCR 3.1 to your device (as mentioned earlier in this thread), you may well have bricked your device.
Sarcastically saying that "You sure make it easy" when you've been given good advice isn't going to get you very far here!
Regards,
Dave
Sorry guys. Bad week. Cheers for the guidance.

Newbie to flashing - Best ROM for Sprint TouchPro

Howdy Folks,
First, I apologize up front about being such a newbie to flashing phones.
I've been reading through numerous forum threads and was just wondering if someone could point me to one of the best ROMs that I should use? I saw a number of them @ ppcgeeks and on here, including Vetvito's, RSTG, etc....but I wasn't sure which one I should use; there's just too many for me to choose! ;-)
Thank-You very much for any tips, I really appreciate the help!

It is really up to personal preference. If you are looking for speed, I would go for the NRGZ roms (at PPCGeeks). I used to use his stuff in my Raphael and they are blazing fast and stable (comes with the price of extended battery drain though).
MightyRom is also a good choice as well. After that, I returned my wife's TP, so I have not had a chance to play with Vevitto's stuff.
One last one, NFSFan... his roms for the Vogue are fantastic, so you may want to take those for a spin as well.
Like I said, ultimately, it is up to you...
Happy Flashing
Thanks for the tips! I guess I'll just have to try a few and see what I like!
One question that I just thought of.... Are there any that have 'good' battery life? I notice the mention of NRGZ being a little rough on the battery; I travel for work, so I don't believe I could handle anything that hits the battery any harder than the stock ROM. LOL
NFSFAN's latest TP ROM update is by far the best out there.

Thanks, You guys are awesome!
Sorry if this question sounds completely stupid (I'm very computer literate, but not very phone literate): I've been wondering about this - I keep seeing the term "unlocked"; does that mean that once this phone is unlocked that I could use the phone on another carrier (if I have a contract with them of course)? For instance, this is a Sprint HTC Touch Pro, and I have a contract with both Sprint (for this phone) and ATT for another phone (that I really don't like); would it actually be possible to use this Touch Pro with my ATT contract?

no, when you bought your sprint touch pro it was locked..you have to unlock it in order to flash your phone.

Actually, you will not be able to use this device for any GSM carrier (GSM meaning any carrier that uses a SIM card in the phone for it to get service). Sprint is a CDMA network, which means that you will only be able to flash it to another carrier by doing two things: unlocking the device to be able to install carrier specific files (PRL and such) and asking your prospective carrier to put your device's ESN into their database and adding it to your account (linking your MIN and MDS numbers to the phone's ESN).
Unlocking for a GSM device works slightly easier. If you SIM-unlock the device, you can change it from carrier to carrier without even having to tell them that you are using a different device.
On the same note, if you do not unlock the device and try to flash a rom, your will semi-brick the device. And if you flash a rom not intended for that device altogether, you will fully brick it.
Hope this helps.
Thanks to all for the replies! I've successfully updated the ROM on my phone and it looks and runs great! Having a slight problem though, it will no longer connect up with my system (VirtualBox/WinXP Guest). Was working fine before the update, so I'll play around with it and see if I can figure out what has changed.
Thanks again guys, I definitely appreciate it.

Advice pls - new Orange Hero, software ver, root?

Hi there, I'm a Dream and Desire owner who has rooted both handsets and I'm reasonably confident I can follow instructions
A colleague at work has just ordered the Hero on Orange (UK), and she's gone online and started reading up on it - first mistake! She's come across a few complaints concerning the Orange ROM and she's asked me "the phone guy" how easy it is to load the HTC ROM onto her phone.
I was caught on the hop, having never even seen a Hero in real life, nor followed the XDA forums for this particular handset. I have a few questions for you guys, if you don't mind - will likely save me hours of reading
1. What version of Android are Orange dishing out on their Heros atm? Donut or Eclair?
2. Depending on the answer to above, please point me in the direction of a rooting guide for the thing.
3. If I can root, what's the best developer ROM around for SPEED and STABILITY? This is a one time thing, I don't want her running back to me every other week, with problems that I can't solve there and then without flashing the thing all the time.
4. If root can't be achieved, can I use a goldcard method to load up the HTC ROM instead? Show me where/how please.
5. What are the known problems with the Orange ROMs - is it even worth me going to the trouble? Will loading up the HTC ROM make a noticeable difference for her?
Finally, she hasn't even got the thing yet, and since I've never had it I can't imagine what probs she may run into. It would be nice to educate her and get on these forums reading and doing stuff herself, but I don't think that will happen tbh. With that in mind I'm looking for suggestions to optimise the thing for permanent daily use. I don't want bleeding edge, just as much performance as I can squeeze out of it without compromising reliability.
Many thanks for your replies - don't be afraid to get technical with me!

1) Should be 1.5 (can't remember codename) as I don't think they have finished customising their own 2.1 ROM.
I doubt many carriers will do 2.1 on shipped phones, as hero is at end of life tbh and likely won't be made in large enough quantities to justify using new ROM.

3) VillainROM 12 or any other final GSM WWE should be fine. Just test if a little and it should be fine. Watch out for OC settings if you want it to be noob-proof. Go for safe settings.
4) That guide explains all methods
5) No idea. IMHO carrier ROMs are all crap, just like stock ones. No root is the big one for me.
Just install a decent ROM for this last point. Anything recent that's been up for a while without many updates should be fine
Thanks anon2122, that helps me out a lot

True, but there's a working radio on the VillainROM site for orange users which came out just days before the GSM WWE ROM

Unfortunately not right now, as the server appears to be down
But it will be back soon. When it is, go to development forum, then in the list of announcements is one for radio rom download links.
Click that, and take the second newest one iirc. Or read the later posts for people confirming which version works on which network.
