Looking for a retractable USB cable - Touch HD Accessories

Does anyone know where I can get a retractable USB cable which works fully with the Touch HD? I have bought a couple from ebay but they only charge the phone but won't let me synch ("USB device not recognised")

Have to admit that I,m in the same boat....have purchased 2 of these, and neither worked for sync...only charging.....very strange....

Same problem, don't understand why !

Try Amazon, there'a a range of ones there of differing qualities. I bought the cheap and nasty ones which still worked fine.

Does anyone know why certain USB cables do not work with the Blackstone?

Do you know which retractable USB cable you bought exactly from amazon? Maybe a link to site or seller's page would be great. I've tried different ones from ebay and they don't work so if I can get the same as yours then hopefully it should work
Thanks

Do not use
Dear all,
Search this forum for battery issues and you will see some postings there. You will see that these cheap chinese cables don't do the job.
I can vouch for this as I used to use retractable usb cables for all of my devices (phones, cameras, etc.). I used one for the htc which works fine (cheap chinese from ebay) but I stopped using.
For charging, it will definitely cause battery problems (ie battery empties quite fast). For syncing I have not come up with problems most of the times.
Although it seems very convenient the cable usually gives problems. There may be a lot of reasons, eg it is not properly shielded.
A solution that works for me now is to buy proper usb cables but 10-15 cm length. This way I avoid cable clutter...

i got my one from mobile fun
http://www.mobilefun.co.uk/retractable-sync-charge-cable-htc-devices-p5650.htm
for me it work for charging and sync iv hoocked it up to my desktop and laptop worked fine on both.

Hi,i use only this cable , for my car too . No problem for charging my pda .

There do seem to be different cables - I had to try a couple before I found one that worked. The brand I have is 'Newlink'. Purchased at http://www.fommy.com

If you had searched this forum by going just one page back you would have found this post http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=507265

Belkin Travel Sync Charger for PDAs

Hey all, I have a belkin Travel charger that I used on my Axim x50v and I was wondering if it would be safe to use it for my T-mobile Wing that i Just got.. On the website it states that its compatible only with Dell PDA's... But my friend has a 16GB Iphone and he just went ahead and plugged it into his car and charged it through there. I'm scared of trying it with my Wing! lol..Heres the link to my belkin charger...
http://www.computergiants.com/items/one_item.asp?part=147210
As you can see the car charger has a USB port... So I'd assume it would work the same as a USB port on a computer? Thus making it safe right? Well Either way I want to make sure lol
Hopefully someone knows if its safe or not...
I guess I don't see why it wouldn't work. Assuming the adapter outputs the correct voltage it should be fine i would think.
Yes, definitely. I have been using a Belkin set just like that for a couple years with no problems at all. I've used it with several different phones, a couple different headsets, and a GPS unit, in probably a hundred different cars(I travel for work, lots of rentals) and in hotel rooms all over the place. Heck, with an adapter (plug only, the Belkin unit is multi-voltage) I've even used it overseas several times.
Not only has it worked fine for all of the above, but I'm still using the original one I bought, so 2 or 3 years going strong with no problems at all. And yes, I have been using it with the Wing specifically. It's a good little setup.

Finally found a retractable USB cable that works!

After searching for months and trying a few cables that only allowed me to charge but not sych...I have finally found a cable that works fully! (thanks to the help from TraumaX)
Its available from Amazon http://www.amazon.co.uk/gp/offer-listing/B000KRJQ08/ref=dp_olp_new?ie=UTF8&condition=new
I bought it from Base for only £2
Update...
Having purchased this cable from Base via Amazon (link above) the cable works perfectly. However the next 2 cables I purchased from them (on separate occasions) have all been different to each other and the latter two only charge but don't synch
So I guess the company has a huge stock range and don't use the same supplier/manufacturer. I have tried to request the original cable but they didn't comply. The only plus is they give a full refund.
Have just ordered again, lets see which cable I get this time...
I purchased this cable from base a week ago and it arrived today. It works perfectly for me as it both syncs and charges. The looks of the cable are not the same as the image provided on amazon but it does its job perfectly.
Just my peace of info on this as many people seem to have trouble finding a good cable.
Yeah my next cable works perfectly fine too

PC Sync + Charge Cradle Reviews?

I searched and searched and can find no real reviews. Lots of people here have posted links to various cradles for the TP2, but nobody who has bought them has offered hard reviews of their purchases.
I use my phones data connection to surf from my PC and wanted a cradle that would charge while synced. I bought this one in August of '09.
amazon.com/gp/product/B002FEPP3G/ref=oss_product
It's terrible. It always complains that the charge is not enough for consumption and the battery will drain. And recently it has stopped connecting to the PC at all. Windows will report that there was a problem with the USB device. Syncs fine with just the data cable direct to phone, but of course no charging that way.
Anyway, time to get a new cradle. Not really concerned with charging a second battery, but it would be nice. So what has been decided to be the best cradle for the TP2 (with the USB connection in the center of the phone, not the offset version)?
Thanks in advance.
Dan
Still looking. I guess I have determined that the one I have is the GSM Touch Pro2. Lots of sync cradles on Amazon, but none that have more than about two reviews, usually complaining because they didn't pay attention to the placement of the USB port.
I suppose if no one has really looked into these that much I might have to just embark on that journey. I'll just start buying the various models and post my findings.
Still open to any opinions others have formed about various cradles though.
I got my cradle from eBay. Here is the link, http://cgi.ebay.com/New-USB-Sync-Cr...wItemQQptZPDA_Accessories?hash=item2eab91cae4. It works and the seller was good. My only issue with it is it is difficult to get the TP2 into the receiving USB plug. I have to move it side to side until I get it to match up. Other than that it works fine.

What all have you done with it? Do you share the internet connection from the phone with a PC through the cradle? Does it get sufficient power to charge the battery(or at least keep it from draining) while using the shared internet through the cradle?
personally i now use this type of cradle as it is Universal i won't need to get a new one everytime i change my phone...which is about twice a year!
but this stand/cradle has worked for me well especially as i just use a normal sync cable which also means i can pick up the phone to answer it etc without having to unplug it..works for me.

I bought this same cradle, but am not happy with it at all. If I leave the AC and USB plugs connected when I turn off my computer, it charges the extra battery, but current flows back into the computer and keeps the fans and lights powered. The first time it happened, it had even sucked 70% of my battery overnight! If I leave only the USB cable connected, the phone naturally doesn't charge overnight and the extra battery doesn't charge either.
I had a cradle for my TouchPro that worked properly. The AC would charge my battery when the computer was turned off, but it didn't send juice back into my computer through the USB cable. I assume it had a diode in the circuit to prevent that.
Does anyone know of a cradle that works as I want (and as it should)?

[Q] Good Micro USB Cable?

Does anyone know where I can find a micro USB cable replacement that is compatible with Samsung's drivers?
My original cable crapped out, so I bought a Gigaware to replace it; phone charges fine.
However, know matter which drivers I try (or cpu), I can no longer get a cpu to recognize my phone.
And I of course need this functionality in order to use Odin (yay!).
T-mobile does not sell the original cable.
Any ideas or advice?
Thanks!
Idk but I do know LG does not work I've tried 3 different ones so far. No joy. So avoid those. Its not much but I hope it helped.

Thanks Twisted. Helps me know what to avoid.
Anyone know of/have one that works?
Been using this for about a month now, nice cable, works perfect. $6 is not bad either.

Awesome, thanks.
Ordering.
I have tried most USB cables out there and I'd recommend ORIGINAL cable since its nice and long and perfectly thin for a microusb yet high quality

only $1 here with waaaay much better reviews than the one you posted.
I'd personally think that the RIM brand is better quality build, though I could be wrong, and as far as reviews go, the cable I bought was nice and sturdy and can take quite a beating and works just fine :-/ To each his own!
Went with the cable from monoprice because shipping was MUCH cheaper.
Will post results on receipt.
On a recent stopover in Hong Kong, I bought several cheapie cables. These ended up being neither cheap, nor functional. They cost $2-3 each. And were only good for providing power to the phone.
At home, I have several cables from various devices (e.g. Logitech Harmony remotes, Blackberry, Motorola ...). All of these cables work just fine.
So the moral of the story is to stay away from cheapie no-name brand cables.

These cheap no brand cables are rare and useful. Try charging with them. Many of them charge 2X as fast as a normal cable, as the device recognizes the charging as 'AC' instead of 'USB'
Edit: haha I just noticed how old this thread was
wirelesss freak can u post a link to order a few such ones and get it shipped to inida?
thanx

+1 for monoprice
I picked up a 3ft and 6ft lengths in black and "splurged" the extra few cents to get ferrite cores and the thicker gage power wiring (28/24 vs. 28/28 as they list it).
In comparison to the Samsung OEM cable, they have "chunkier" heads with harder and thicker plastic. They don't interfere with the phone housings in any way and are much more cat-proof. My cat made swiss cheese out of the ends of one of my Samsung cables.
The thicker gage wiring option is nice if you anticipate cable abuse (stepping on it, pinching the cable in doorways, etc) - great for vehicles and small kids. The thicker wiring does however results in a notably stiffer cable, so I can't easily wrap one tightly around my palm, for example.
For the prices they charge you could easily get many for the "price of one" in a brick and mortar store, so if you're one to deliberate to excess you could just order a few different options knowing you'll get something to your liking .
FYI - the best cable for Samsung phones and drivers are the blackberry ones IMHO there chunky on the tip and the wire is thicker than SAMMY's good luck everyone

Well, I'm thinking about just buying a micro usb to usb B cable converter.
Then, just go to any thrift store and buy a USB B cable that would come with a printer. Those things are everywhere and cheap. Unfortunately I've only seen the converter online, and it sells for 7USD.

OTG?

Didn't see anything in a search, looking for an OTG adapter for a stock non rooted Mate2.
Friend of mines adapter works, but he forgot who he bought it from, the one I found on Amazon
doesn't work. But, I have VERIFIED my non rooted stock Mate2 will work with the OTG.
Any suggestions? They aren't that expensive, but I've prefer not to buy four or five to find
one that works.
tnx

I've found with these μUSB that sometimes the connection is at fault (the tabs get pressed in somehow so the cable doesn't slot in place). The cheaper cables do this more than others.
Never had a problem with a StarTech OTG cable. The plastic casing feels a little cheap, even on their more expensive cables (their cables have been like this lately), so if your friend roughhouses their electronics it might fall apart.
Unfortunate that a lot of these cables are on this level lately, I can't afford to order a bunch of cables to test at the moment (esp. with a bad CAD)
