Shift's charger = EPC's charger !!! - Shift Accessories

Have confirmed the results that Shift' charger is definitely the same with EPC 1000'charger!!! Input,Output,Voltage,Model....even factory.....(ADP-36EH A)
And also I have bought one and confirmed again.....

I've been looking around for an extra adapter but can't seem to find ADP-36EH A. But there are a few companies that are selling ADP-36EH C, would this work? ADP-36EH C can be googled, let us know! =)

I just found this: http://cgi.ebay.co.uk/ws/eBayISAPI....akeTrack=true&ssPageName=VIP:watchlink:top:en
any1 know a similar cheaper one?

Well, i found a very cheap one ( only $3). I went to a general electronics store and bought an universal 12V car charger. It has 4 heads (2 male & 2 female). The smaller head fits the Shift.
I have used the Shift as a GPS for some days now and it works like a charm.

what store did you find thi in?

the changer is incompatible for shift....
eee pc's changer DC plug is OD4.8mm ID1.75mm, shift's changer DC plug is OD5.5mm ID2.1mm.

If you are able to make GPS work on the Shift, Winmo or even Win7, I would apreciate any help in the question I've raised in this thread:

Charger works
I bought the charger mentioned above (12V 3A) for the EEEPC on ebay for $10 and the tip was too small as expected.
So I went to RadioShack, and bought a
Size M Coaxial DC Power Plug (part # 274-1569) package of 2 for $3.
Snipped the tip and added my own. Now I have 2 power chargers!
I have the extra tip still so I can do it to a Car charger if needed too...once I find a 12V 3A one...

we sell eeepc charger's at my work and that tip is definetly too small

ooh forgot to post this but for what its worth, i tried going through lots of universal chargers and finally got one that worked.
The FSP NET 40 , using the Blue tip, works perfectly with my shift, it uses a right-angle type connector but i like it especially beacuse the tips are very securely connected meaning it wont easily snap, and the brick is still tiny, infact i think it might be smaller!

universal power supply which one works with the shift?

Does anyone use a Kensington or Targus AC power adapter? If so what number tip are you using? I have both and Targus came with a couple of adaptors that fit but I am not willing try them and fry my shift. Sent an email to both companies asking if they have a tip that supports the shift but no reply yet.
I like univeral power suppplies since all I have to do is carry one power supply and the a couple of different tips for the the various devices I take with me instead of 5 different power supplies when I travel. So far I cannot find one that lists the HTC shift.
update from Kensington
Well i did get a reply back from Kensington but it looks they don't support the shift yet

(Info) power adaptor tip for the HTC SHIF/X9500

Dear steve:
Thank you for contacting Kensington Technical Support.
I understand your situation. I would like to inform you that according to the Specification of HTC Shift X9500, it is having DC output: 12Vdc, 3A max. Although we have Power Adapter which can handle this specification, yet we do not have the smartTip which will provide the exact specification. There might be a possibility that a smartTip may snugfit into the power port of the device as discussed in the forum, but again it depends on the smartTip to regulate the voltage. If it fails to regulate the proper voltage, it may harm the device.
We hope that your question has been answered to your satisfaction. Should you have further questions regarding this matter, please do not hesitate to contact us again.

Thanks x5-rwk!!!!!!
#3 was one of the two tips that seemed to fit I tested tehm without any power in the shift. I was to chicken to try it with power and smoke test my new my toy!
I have same Targus AC70u. Now I can take the Targus with me for the shift and all my other devices and leave the original one at home same as you.
Car charger as well?
Again thanks to x5-rwk, I can also confirm the Targus 70w Model APA10 with the #3 tips works as AC charger. I started looking at the Targus site and found this add-on for the APA10 it also uses the same tips. From what I understand it is the tips that regulate the voltage so this could be a car charger for the shift!? I ordered one from Amazon and will report back if it works.

NOPE The tips (connectors) for the digital devices that you can connect for this add on to the Targus charger are a different pin out so you cant use the lap connectors with it. Only the one for for cell phone etc.

Glad to hear that the AC charger is working for you, sorry that the vehicle charger is not working out so well. I was going to place an order for one recently but have not done it yet.
iGo is good
I have an iGo charger I've used for about 4 years and I have a tip that fits and it charges just fine - I would suspect that the Kensington and Targus ones would work the same way. They are supposed to figure out the power load and deliver it in the right way . . . .
BTW it connects to laptop connector, not the cellphone one.
The Targus/Kensington/iGo tips are interchangeable between vendors (personal experience) so you should be fine. If it fits,it'll work
So which tip #?
Which igo tip are you using with the Shift successfully?
Thanks,
Rob
Sorry to dredge up an old thread, but can any of you who are sucessfully using Targus tip #3 tell me which laptops that tip is intended for (make & model, please)? I have a collection of Kensington adapters and tips, and it seems like some Toshiba tips fit, but I'm also scared to fry my Shift (especially as that tip outputs 19V). If I knew, however, that the tip I am trying is intended for the same machines as Targus #3, then presumably the specs are the same.
Thanks for the help.
Hi,
I have used multiple chargers.
As long as the voltage does not exceed 12V and the polarity is correct your shift shouldn't fry.
Lower Voltages don't harm the shift either. The shift just doesn't "feel" it's there.
I even had the polarity wrong once. The charge lite came on, but it didn't charge... I found out within minutes end corrected it, but my shift still works fine and teh battery doesnot seem to be damaged. (I don't know what would have happened if I would have left it like that overnigt though...)

A cautionary tale
A follow up to my prior post, and cautionary tale:
I recently flew transatlantic on Virgin Atlantic (VS). While VS has in seat power available, due (I think) to UK government regulations there are two restrictions on use:
1) You need to use an adapter supplied by VS (they carry them onboard), not your own.
2) You need to remove the battery, so that you can only power your laptop, not recharge it.
The adapters that VS supplies are rebadged Targus equipment. Here’s the list of available adapters. Based on this thread and some testing of my own at home with my Kensington universal adapters, I felt confident that tip #3 would work. Note, however, that I tested what I had at home with a multimeter, and it registered 19V. Nevertheless, on the plane asked for #3 for my “Fujitsu”. Took out the battery and had no problem powering the Shift. Started to watch my movie.
About 10 minutes later, I noticed that the in seat entertainment screens of all the seats around me went out. I thought it was lucky I had my Shift with some movies stored.
10 minutes after that, the flight attendant came over, very apologetic, to say that a circuit breaker kept blowing for the entertainment system, and indicated an overload fault at my seat. We did some basic troubleshooting, switched the Targus adapter, and confirmed that everything was fine until the Shift was connected (Targus without Shift was OK), at which point they say the warning light. I was very politely asked if I could run on battery for the rest of the flight, which I did.
The incident has me worried though. We all assume that if the Shift doesn’t blow up, all is well. In fact the adapter may be trying to drive too high a voltage through the Shift, leading to feedback. A home electrical system with a 20A breaker may not be sensitive enough to detect this, but an aircraft system might be.
The other thing that concerns me is that I may have experienced problems specifically because I had my battery out. What I suspect is that the battery may be acting like a sponge, absorbing the excess energy. With the battery out, the power feeds back into the adapter and ultimately the power source circuit breaker. If true, this means we are likely putting an overcurrent into our batteries whenever we use one of these 19V adapters. Eventually, the battery could overheat and catch fire (remember the Dell and Sony battery recalls?). My story could have been a fluke, but personally, I would stay away from adapters except one designed for the Shift, or at least one which outputs 12V.
The Kensington N3 tip does work- and while I agree that caution should be taken with charging precious devices, the kensington universal power adapters are designed to charge phones, PDA's MP3 players & laptops. Bearing in mind that PDA's are 5v $ laptops are 19.5V and the Kensington can charge anything in between. . . I've not had problem so far!

I can't speak for the Shift, but I just fried a Touch HD using my Kensington power adapter
A quick search of the Kensington website returned the following FAQ:
Question: Are there some USB devices which the USB Mobile Device Charger won't charge?
Answer: Yes. Some devices, such as a PS3 controller or an HTC phone, have a proprietary chip which only allow the device to charge from certain USB ports (like a laptop or USB hub) or with the manufacturer's original charger.

Desktop Cradle

Im Looking for a nice Cradle for the Rhodium, ideally with a second battery charger in it (not vital as ive not got a 2nd battery yet)
Anyone spied any?
They've started cropping up on eBay, spotted 2 this morning.
If anyone actually gets a hold or hears of a proper battery cradle charger I'll be happy. With having the kaiser for 2 years I grew tired of having to charge my phone twice a day to meet my gadgetting needs... I really do love to play around with those phones hah..
[offtopic] Also bummer they didn't supply the phones with the VGA cable.. [/offtopic]

Can I ask how easy it is to drop the device into the cradle? I bought a Pro2 cradle from an ebay source, and it can be a bit fiddly to line up the connector, I'm often jiggling it around for a while to line it up; whereas the Brando cradle for the HD is very easy to use, it just drops straight in. I'm loathe to buy a second cradle, but this one is just annoying me.
hi!
the brando is easy to line up the connector, of course first you must learn the position...
it's cute! I own the deluxe for a second battery, but the normal one is enough if you don't plan a second battery!
I have to agree with @deiota mine came today and I am very happy with it.
Pics of both types of chargers
I purchased both types of chargers. One for the office & one for home.
I have had them for almost a month now. Please excuse all the dust & fingerprints
Ill post the deluxe model first.
Pics of the plain charger.
I have attached pics of the plain charger.
The plain charger I purchased for usd$14.99 and the deluxe was usd$24.99. I purchased both from ebay. I received them in about a week after placing my order. Both came with free shipping.
So the total was usd$39.98 for both units.
Connections:
Deluxe model - EXTUSB docking port / MINIUSB charging port / EXTUSB sync & audio port / 3.5mm Audio Port
Plain Model - MINIUSB docking port / MINIUSB charging port / MINIUSB Sync port
Both unit came with a US style (2-prong) AC Adaptor with the following specs:
Input = 100-240vac 50/60Hz
Output = 5v 1.5A (MINIUSB)
Both models works great. I actually prefer the plain model since the HTC TP2 sits "deeper" in the docking port which seems more secure and I still have easy access to the front buttons of the phone. I usually do not listen to music when charging the phone. I have placed these docking cradles in front of my computers at home & office so, if i had to listen to music, i use my computer.

Car Adapter...

Anyone pick up a car power adapter yet?
Getting the bugs worked out of my GPS, now I need an adapter...
Here's the car mount I picked up...
It's a 12V device so you don't need anything except a plug that will fit and a power port adapter. Tip is positive. You can make one from parts at Radio Shack if you wanted to.

Correct... I might have to do that if there's not an actual power adapter ready to go for the Tab.... I might take a look at the assortment of Igo adapters.

The price is right, but if a similar one is available locally, at a reasonable price, I would encourage people to buy locally. By supporting local merchants, you help ensure that they survive. It is also easier to return to a local merchant if you have problems with a product.

$5.18 shipped from ebay.
and $6.48 shipped as well.
One thing to ask about though, the specs says max 2A, did you confirm it supplies 2A @ maximum voltage 12v ? were you able to charge the GTab while the it running with blutooth enabled ? The thing is if it doesn't supply the required 2A, the battery might no be charged properly if at all when the GTab is powered up.
Thanks,
I was able to charge the tab while it was running. You adjust the voltage to 12volts and attach the proper tip. For 4$at big lots it was worth checking out.

What is the best cable to use for charging on Nexus 6

I have been looking for a new cable that won't become lose where you plug it into the phone.
I have gone through them monthly. I can't use them in the car because they become lose and do not charge anymore. It's really frustrating not finding a good cable where the connector to the phone does not become lose in a couple of weeks.
Any suggestions would be great appreciated

There's another thread around here about this. But, I have yet to find one better than this one PortaPow 3.3ft 20AWG Charge+Sync Micro USB Cable. It's one of a very few on Amazon that actually specs the conductor sizes. Also, it's one of the few sync (not charge only) cables with over-sized power conductors. You need a sync cable for turbo charging to work. It was actually a little scary tight when it was brand new. It's not braided, so if you are looking for aesthetics, this is probably not the one for you.

Thank you for your advice. I actually do NOT care how it looks as long as it works and doesn't become loose.
Good information to consider on your reply and the previous reply. Thanks guys

I'm happy with the braided 6.6ft Cambond reversible USB cable I bought on Amazon.
Anker cables are widely regarded as one of the best. Very well made, and use thick gauge wire. Check out the reviews on Amazon for what people are saying.
Monoprice best place to get your cables. Cost way less than others and last long time. Just look at this one for $3 http://www.monoprice.com/Product?c_id=103&cp_id=10303&cs_id=1030307&p_id=9762&seq=1&format=2
I've found that OEM Blackberry cables are the best of both worlds, the usb connector is not as loose as other generic cables and they are not as tight fit as the Anker cables, you can find them at Amazon.

+1 to the PortaPow listed above. Been using one in the car for almost 6 months and connections have remained firm. I have this PureGear car charger and Quick Charge works well using this cable. Well worth the $7.49

But, you'll have to wait till Jan 2016
If you want to use quick charge on your nexus 6, make sure to get some better quality cables, because the crap cable won't give you enough power. i get mine tronsmart cable from their deals, and it can charge my lg g4 at full speed, great quality.

I like my Aukey 10 foot cable. I haven't tried it with the Turbo Charger.
Just ordered these to try them out since they had some deal on amazon. Not bad for $14 total. Oh yeah, they have to be done separately for the codes to work.

I think they all get loose after a while. I bought a nice one at Target and after a month it went bad, I now have to jiggle it at the USB side for it to work, do they make anything like they used too????

Magnetic usb cable

Hey guys!
I was thinking about geting a magnetic cable for my OP5, they seem greate for beeyng very practical to use and in theory helping to expand the device's usb port life.
So with that in mind, does anyone have any ideia if...
1- Is there a 4A magnetic usb C cable compatible with dash/vooc?
and
2 - is there any chance that using a magnetic cable would cause damage to the phone?
Nope no dash charge just slow/about 1A. Don't think slow charging would kill your phone. I use em all the time and have had no problems this far.
Same here, I have a micro-usb magnetic connector for my smartach and another magnetic type-c for a tablet and both can't deliver more than 1A , but they are indeed very handy !
Hey guys just found a 4.3A cable, the problem is that its made for notebooks which means the connector is L shaped.
here is where to buy: https://www.banggood.com/Baseus-Magnetic-90-Degree-4_3A-Type-C-to-Type-C-Fast-Charge-Data-Cable-1_5M-for-S8-Xiaomi-6-Macbook-p-1179421.html

Hmm i says that it can support S8 too.
Only problem i see is that the USB C charge part needs to stay in the phone, and the other part is magnetic.
Not really convenient i think..

It won't work with Dash Charge anyway.. You need their cable with their charger otherwise it won't work,I haven't seen any 3rd party accessories that supports Dash Charge

That's kind of the whole idea that makes it convenient, not having to plug the cable. But yeah you do have to always use a case to cover it.

Ok the Charger i get but the cable, are you sure?
Is there something else about the OP stock cable besisdes the amount of juice that it can put thru? (considering that that ports a usb-c on one end and usb on the other)
I always thought that there wasn't any other cable compatible because before apple put a usb-c charging/data port on macbook there was no market for a 4A cable apart from Oppo and Oneplus.

Yes I'm sure, there is a ton of sites that explains Dash Charge. I Think they put some microchip inside so OP phones can check the compatibility and allow the 4A charge
Edit: There is some article that states that you need their cable
Does anyone know where I can buy something like this, except for usb c?
http://www.ebay.com/itm/like/112306...D711-117182-37290-0%26rvr_id%3D1289648401373&
I do NOT want the entire cable. I just want an adapter so I can use my existing cables.
Never mind, just saw the kick starter. But I only need charging.

Quoting the part of the article that talks about the cable "they won’t be compatible with the high current that’s supplied to the device".
So if the current is the only reason... than i believe it could be compatible sense it hits the 4A spot.
Compatible or not the seller/manufaturer will only ship the cable once it hits 200 pcs sold mark, which is pretty far from the current 42 pre-orders. That's too bad i was actualy willing to buy and test it if it wasn't for this.
Any news regarding this?

Necro-Reply....but has anyone tried this. Seems to be an Adapter for Magnetic connection. So what if we used this along with the Dash Charger and Cable?

It will not work, they have it somewhere on their website
