Original XDA Star ROM nearly finished - need some confirmation - Touch Dual, MDA Touch Plus ROM Development

Hi guys, it's me again
As some of you know, I've searched for the boot splash for the german XDA Star and finally, I succeeded with it! But before I can release the whole ROM package for the german XDA Star, I need some confirmation from users with the original firmware:
- is Radio 1.58.27.16 present on the phone? (Start -> Einstellungen -> System -> Geräteinformationen -> Funkempfängerversion)
- is "CE OS 5.2.1622 (Build 18128.0.4.4)" present in Start -> Einstellungen -> System -> Info?
- is 1.31 present as last red line during boot sequence?
- is SPL 1.16.0000 the real original XDA Star SPL*?
*: Soft reset your device while press and hold both Power and Camera button and you could see your SPL version!

I have asked for the Splash and nobody answer...
Here the Splash: (second is the original, first is the new one)

Thanks anyway, I'll see if them are the right ones after the Star is send back to o2!

Original Firmware is the best way

Sure, but the linked ROM doesn't contain SPL, Radio or Splashscreens, only the OS itself so it's no help!

Hey anime... i've dumped my original o2 rom. Dont know if it contains anything you need (spl, splash) but if it helps you i'm gonna upload it.
But if you're allready done: what about uploading the "shipped" rom for all the other german o2 customers that have been (and will be) asking for the stock rom? Think there will be many grateful users over the next months...

Why not uploading? It's good enough for a try and if I'm successful with it, I can upload the whole ROM for all other!

i dropped you a pm

Got it, thanks!

It's harder than I thought to create a whole o2 ROMwith all parts (OS, Radio, SPL, SPlash)! Will need some more time to do that!

Use KaiserChef from the Kaiser forum. It needs the raw and a basefile (any official Nike), and just rebuilds it from a couple of key presses.

or take splash tools, there is a createnbh.bat and it use the example.txt just write the nbh files in the text file put all nbh in the folder and press the bat...

Thanks for your help, the ROM is nearly finshed but I need some last infos! PLease read the first post and reply here with yes or no to each question!

Some interesting things on the T-Mobile 1.60 update software

I tried the T-Mobile 1.60 rom on my O2 xda2.
It works perfectly with my xda2.
However, I found some interest thing on the new rom upgrade process
1. It seems XDA2 (or HTC Himalaya) use one single program for RAIDO / Extended Rom / OS Rom update. It seems Radio upgrade failure may no longer case device failure, because the RADIO upgrade process is same as OS upgrade process, and not required to copy the whole software into the RAM to upgrade.
2. Sinces some of us (and my XDA2) report that the exteneded rom is READ ONLY, but the upgrade program can update the extended rom. That means the Exteneded rom is not REALLY read only, but somewhere locked it. More funny is , it is seems the Main OS rom is not controlling the exteneded rom is locked or not, because after I updated the extended rom, it is still locked.
3. If O2 XDA2 can use T-Mobile MDA2 update, it seems the upgrade software no longer check the header of the device (At lease this version won't). I think we can use it to change device's language. However I don't know how to dump the rom in .nbf format, is that possible to convert the nb1 format to nbf format?
Thanks.
Hi killercheung...
where are you find the 1.60 rom ?
and the radio what version is ?
Can you put it in my ftp pls ?
it's always on
ftp://dgmatic.com
user: xda
pass: xda
port: 21
...like this we can have it all
Thanks in advance
Denis
I asked here for you, hopefully it will be available for everyone soon:

killercheung, thanks for that... I'm still deciding whether to apply the new rom to my UK XDA II.... is the language of the rom netherlands? or can I have it all in english as it is with the normal O2 rom?
Do we lose anything from the o2 rom/extended rom ?
I'm wondering if O2 do bring an upgrade out if we'll be able to still use it if we've tried this t-mobile 1.60 rom.... hmmmmm
hmmm decisions decisions... do you think its much better than the current o2 rom?
Now that I have moved to the 1.60 rom, I must say there's ONE thing I DO miss ....
My O2 BUBBLES ARE GONE FROM MY ASIAN O2.
(I obviously knew this could happen, but thought I'd made a backup of my extended ROM (I DID, but I accidentally tossed it a few days ago) . Who would be so kind as to send me a copy of the O2.cab file from the extended rom, so that I can put the bubbles back into my dialer ...)

Hi Killercheung,
You've missed out something ... the EXE file can be unzipped (using Winrar) ... you will then see the same upgrade.exe files, nbf files (3 of them) ... you can then deleted the ms_.nbf so that only the CORE ROM and RADIO is updated, and keep all O2 EXTENDED_ROM content untouch.
You can also use the same method to upgrade to Chinese ...

Good news about the T-Mobile ROM. I don't know what they have fixed/patched, but my O2 XDA II ROM never bothered to disconnect the GPRS connection after having spent some time online, not after surfing, not after checking e-mail. Mind you the T-moblile ROM doesn't either, except ....... when checking e-mail, which in my eyes is quite important.
So now I can go back to have my XDA check my e-mail once per hour, knowing that it will disconnect automatically.
(And Satria, thanks for sending me my bubbles

Hi,
Just one question. Did any of you that make the update testet with the bluetooth GPS?
If yes, It works? or you still have to install TOWA´s patch?

For NBF, you can use XDAtools to capture the Chinese ROM, I did once with the English ROM and the file size is exactly the same as the one in 1.60 update. So there should have no missing bytes in the saved file.
For the EXTENDED_ROM, no idea how to save in NBF format ..
I have installed the update but TomTom doesnt see the serial ports 4/5.

yikes...... did that happen on the old rom as well or did gprs stay connected on the original rom?
I hate the way gprs disconnects on devices.. it's supposed to be always on, and I'd really prefer if it stayed on during suspend etc so that MSN could stay connected, notifying me when I got a message....
Email checking likewise, I'd prefer gprs remained always connected and it'd check email in the background whether off or on, notifying me when it got a new mail.
I can't check the behaviour of my xda II since Im on "roaming" at the moment in another country so no gprs
but can anyone say for sure which way the old vs new rom work in this regard?
I did some research on the upgrade process, and fileformats:

Official i-mate rom won't install after installing t-mobile

Earlier, I installed unofficial T-Mobile 1.6 rom on my i-mate. I just recenlty tried installing the official i-mate update and there is a country code. I don't have the old rom to revert to. Can anyone help. I know I would have to at the least get a copy of the old rom and then install it into the i-mate. Again, since I don't have a backup of the old one, I would need info on how to get one first.
The T-Mobile unofficial one works fine. I just wanted to go back to always on gprs etc. that the i-mate update has. If not, I guess I will have to wait until the rom kitchen is up and running for this unit.

I think you better try it using bootloader way, because t-mobile protect it's update, it happen in XDAI if you update your XDA to 4.16 and you want to go back to 4.11 then you have to update it using bootloader to be able to go back from the previous one 4.11 8) hope this help you...opps correction please there is no bootloader on XDA II, there is bootloader but in different way, I think if you copy your old nbf to sd using xdatools and go to bootloader by using power+anydirection+ reset it will ask to download the nbf to you device... hmmm if this doesn't work you have to look for another way.
T-Mobile 1.60 BUGGY Rom - Want to go back to iMate ROM
Folks,
I'm in the same position - Can someone please outline the success they've had going back from the T-Mobile 1.60 ROM to Imate ROM 1.5283??
Any thoughts would be great... (I'm guessing the boot loader using an SD card may work but would love to hear of any new tricks that people have learned on this
Cheers

I'll try to help.

T-Mobile Back to iMate ROM

I've uploaded the new iMate ROM image to:

The somewhat flakey T-Mobile 1.6.006 ROM (which I'm trying to get away from is at
http://www.c1au.com/iMatePDAROMS/TMobile160.zip
Of course, with the different operator / country codes, it's not just a matter of running the .EXE - It'll need to involve the boot loader of a little hex editing of the header, I'm guessing (just guessing?!)
The new iMate ROM is meant to be the best bet around at the moment and my device is an iMate in the first place. The only reason why I installed the T-Mobile one was to get the Bluetooth GPS fix (which works well) - BUT so many other things aren't as stable!!
The new iMate ROM is meant to have the BT GPS fix as well.
Any help, much appreciated!
Cheers
Andy

OK, made some time to create a batch file to upgrade.
Works only for upgrade from T-Mobile 1.60.06 NL to I-mate 1.53.82.
1. Download the ROM image ruu15283.zip from the site in this posting
2. Unzip the file with Winzip
3. You now get a file called ruu15283wwwe_cdl.exe
3. Extract this file with Winzip to a new folder
4. Extract the attached file to the same folder
5. Start the conversion and upgrade by double-clicking convert.bat
Since I'm out till Sunday, I can't check my mail to respond to problems.
Enjoy!
Can the first person brave enough to try this please confirm success.
IT WORKS!!
Jes - You're a scholar and a gentleman!!
And a *(&(&( good programmer
IT WORKED!
Thanks a million!
Let me know how to send you virtual beers or whatever
(or if you need a hand with anything - Please let me know!)

Nah, I'm not a good programmer, I just know how to write bachfiles and how to combine things to get the disered result.
Thanks has to go to Isme. He knows a lot about the internal working of the XDA II, the ROMS and the bootloader process.
He wrote the great tool used to change the file headers, so you can update your machine with a ROM of a different brand.
He's a good programmer!
If somebody needs a mod to upgrade from another ROM version, please let me know.
And if you want to do something back, please donate to the people who keep this nice forum up and running.
It worked. For those who want to get back onto the official path from unofficial t-mobile this is an automated way to do it. Thanks...Jon
Backing Up XDA2 ROM+CE
I'm a new XDA2 iMate user, want to back up my ROM+CE before I screw things up. I did this on my XDA1 (power + software reset, then press contact button I think). Anyway, I always had my ROM+CE backed up to a 64M SD card ... just in case.
I've searched these forums for such a procedure for XDA2 ... no luck.
What is the process, if any, to backup the XDA2's ROM+CE image to SD card?
Appreciate any help,
Craig
I think it's possible with the xda2dmp tool, but you better ask Itsme, he wrote it.

Difference between i-mate 1.52.00WWE ROM and i-mate 1.53.82
Can anybody outline the differences between the 1.52.00 and the 1.53.82 official i-mate ROMs?
I'm trying to ascertain whether I have sufficient incentive to upgrade (given the "If it ain't broke, don't fix it" mentality I subscribe to in my old age!).
Sufficient incentive might be;

 Improved battery life
 Improved all-round performance.

Questions about bootloader and upgrading for hermes

Hi everybody,
This is my first post here and first of all id like to say "THANKS FOLKS" for the great job you are doing here just for your passion!
Im writing for Italy and im about to get an "english" (from U.K.) genuine and not branded Htc Tytn so, dont worry, im not about to bother you with questions about italian dumped roms or stuff like that!
Tytn will be my first pda phone and my first "experience" with WM 5 so, before posting, i tried to read as much as i could just to avoid posting old questions, but i didnt find anything to make it bright: if id like to upgrade the rom, the extended rom, the radio rom of my tytn with a genuine htc rom, extended rom and radio rom without upgrading the bootloader, how can i do that?Is it possible?if yes, how?
I ask that coz first, i suppose my tytn will come with the 1.04 bootloader since its brand new, second coz id like to be able to just upgrade the radio rom without upgrading all the rest and third, coz im not really intersted in making it "super cid" or anything else since i wont mount any other immage than the htc ones...
I dont know if i said something wrong or already asked and, if yes, my apologies...if not, i really hope to get some answers...
Tnx everybody and see you next post...
Greeting, Jello

Hi Jello79 and welcome to XDA-Dev, I see you've done your homework of reading and searching before asking, and no... your question has not been asked before, so we're not going to kick your ass yet (just kidding!)
If you extract a shipped ROM you will see there's a NBH file which contains the following ROM parts:
Bootloader: IPL.nb & SPL.nb
Splash Screens: MainSplash.nb & SubSplash.nb
Radio: GSM.nb
Extended rom: ExtROM.nb
WM5: OS.nb
This NBH file has a signature generated with a private HTC certificate, and if you change a single bit of it, the signature will not be valid, so the bootloader will not accept to upgrade the device showing an "invalid cert error (255)".
So the answer to your question is unfortunately "no", you are not able to flash other ROM parts without flashing the bootloader, because all existing NBH files contain a IPL & SPL on them.
Hope it is clear to you
Tnx pof, fast, detailed and bright...now i "just" have to decide what to do..do you have any suggestion?
I think it worths to update all the shipped rom to the newset one...even if it avoids me to upload only the radio rom...what do you think?
Last question:making my tytn a "super cid" one, would make the warranty void?
Tnx in advance,
Jello

Sorry I can't answer that... depends on how you want to use the device and what do you expect out of it, and how happy are you to loose time changing roms, applying registry settings, installing cabs, etc... If you're a business user with no time and mod to play with it, I'd keep the shipped rom, otherwise I'd go on with upgrades.

ROM Reconstruction possible!

ok, Mousey here on the forums had dumped the Orange UK ROM from his Hermes; he then used buildimgfs to create a proper imgfs image; after this, we then wrote this imgfs to the AKU3.3 ROM (using it as a shell essentially) and the result was a successful flash and his PDA was running Orange UK OS ROM, so it would seem that it IS possible to create images of dumped ROMs, but I would advise that you make sure the NB you create is bigger than needed so as not to fill it completely.
All Working Beautifully.
1. I Took The Part02.raw Of A Dumped ROM And Dumped All The Files Using "viewimgfs" from the imgfsTools
2. I Created imgfs_raw_data.bin File From A Random AKU 3.3 OS.nb File Using "aWaiter".
3. Then I Created imgfs_raw_data.bin From The Dumped Files Using "buildimgfs" from the imgfsTools, This Overwrites The imgfs_raw_data.bin File Created In The Previous Step.
4. I Then Merged My imgfs_raw_data.bin With The OS.nb From Step 2 File Using "aWaiter".
5. Then I Created The nbh File Using The Orange Splash Screens And The Romanian EXTROM Using dutty's Rom Koch
6. Finally I Added It To The CustomRUUUpdater Created By Olipro.
And Then Flashed It. Now I've Unlocked The ExtRom Im Going To Add In The UK Files And HardReset.

currently a shipped Orange UK ROM doesn't exist, and we don't have the capabilities to produce signed files... but since it seems your bootloader is intact, I would suggest you try the KITL trick described on the wiki

So you dumped a ROM from a phone and merged it with a shipped ROM that was AKU 3.3? Was the "phone ROM" AKU 3.3 also, and, did your default internet connections remain after flashing?
great stuff guys, you rock!
@jokinawa
When I Say Merged What I Mean Is I Use The Shell Of An AKU 3.3 OS.nb File. None Of The AKU3.3 Code Remains Its Just A Container For The Orange Rom To Live In. When You Flash It You Only Flash The Orange Part, Yes All My Settings Are Now The Original Orange Settings Whithout Having To Add Anything.
I Hope That Explains Things Better. I Added This Info To The Wiki.
Are There Any Other Providers Who Haven't Released An Original ROM? I May Create Installers If You Need Them.

Does this solution mean that if I upgrade to xda live, i can get back to the original rom??
Does it mean that i can claim my waranty if the phone is broken (not software only hardware?)
T-mobile Netherlands did not bring out any ROM for the Tytn (VarioII)
What can I do to bring the ROM files to you?
-------------------------------------------------------------------
Sorry for the very very bad english... I speak Dutch!
I've Backed Up All The Hermes FTP Folder, But Sadly I Don't See A T-Mobile Netherland Dump, Theres 2 WWE Ones In There If You Want I'll Create An Installer Out Of That For You.
Cheers

if you dumped the OS from your Hermes onto your hard-drive, then yes.
also, as I said before... remember to use as large an OS.nb as possible.
Currently I'm looking into modifying the size of the OS.nb itself; hopefully this can be done without generating any bad blocks (even if the attempt fails), but I'll get back to you on that.
Offtopic, but mousey_, why are you upper casing all words in your messages?
Olipro - superb work, keep it up, but get some sleep too!

Sleep? What's that?

Oh, I remember now...
Man I really miss it!
ViJay, why are you so cruel as to remind of of such a thing?

All Working Beautifully.
I Took The Part02.raw Of A Dumped ROM And Dumped All The Files Using "viewimgfs" from the imgfsTools
Then I Created imgfs_raw_data.bin From The Dumped Files Using "buildimgfs" from the imgfsTools.
I Copied An OS.nb From The AKU 3.3 Test ROMs Into The Folder Then I Merged My imgfs_raw_data.bin With The OS.nb File Using "aWaiter".
Then I Created The nbh File Using The Orange Splash Screens And The Romanian EXTROM And Added It To The CustomRUUUpdater.
And Then Flashed It. Now I've Unlocked The ExtRom Im Going To Add In The UK Files And HardReset.

Ok I'm going to dump my rom... can someone tell me, when I dump my ROM is it important to empty my device (hard reset??)... I dont wanna throw my private data on the streets
Or does the rom dumper only dump the rom and dont touch the active part of the device?
I have dumped my ROM and now??
I did the rom dump before i did the upgrade to xda live 2
Olipro can you help me to create a dutch T-mobile recover ROM?
I do not really know how that works (Instructions would be nice!), but as far as i understand that, you can read out the rom from the Hermes to do a backup eg. for XDALive?
T-Mobile Germany even has no shipped rom! Would be nice to construct it!

Iolite/Touch Cruise 2 CID/Security/SIM Unlocker

Alright folks, Touch Cruise 2 SIM Unlocker sorted, enjoy the usual boilerplate text:
1) contributing forum members & Elite Team donators... Request a free unlock with your IMEI & email. - if you have an account that has a) existed for a good few months and b) you actually contribute to the site (technical wizardy, or general helpfulness - CONSISTENT AND REGULAR POSTING), then just drop me a message and it's yours, if you don't meet both a) and b) then don't bother - having an account that you rarely posted from is NOT in the least bit interesting.
2) everyone else (new accounts/unregistered/sod all posts, this means you): Get SIM unlocked Here
Nice one, Olipro!!!
Is your tool instantly kill CID in T4242?

yep it unlocks everything
if you're thinking of Region ID, that requires a patch to the ROM itself.

Is it based on NBHUtil utility, or there is another ROM tweak?

NBHUtil is just a tool that packs .NB into .NBH or extracts .NB from .NBH
the tweak is 2 patches actually. I got distracted, sorry for the delay regarding the ROM

no, only 1. the other one is rilphone.
heh doesn't look like there's that many iolite's out there.
cmonex: Well, I think that Iolite is just unneeded daughter without any further advertisement. Instead, everyone wants Diamond2 and other clones. Anyway, nobody around has the same device as me .
Hi, Oli & Nex,
First, thanks for your great work to making these HardSPL and unlockers, without them the Windows phone will be much less attractive.
At the time when my Kaiser is broken, my friend send me a Touch Cruise 09 from China. It is a special edition of Iolite custumized for China Unicom, officially called Dopod T4288. From the specs I found its major difference with the HTC T4242 model is that it does not support WiFi. Later on I flashed your hardspl on it and found it works great on flashing ROMs. But I got some trouble on using some ROMs, for example, for the official WWE ROM version 1.11.706.1, the ROM is flashed smoothly and bootup with no problem. But it can not pass by the customization process. It stuck at about 60%of progress bar on the customization screen after after already aligned screen.
My question is: Is this from the hardware variaty or is CID related?
Thanks again for your contributions.

wow, very interesting. not sure why that would be... maybe some driver issue. you'll need to cook a rom based on original stock ROM for Dopod T4288. to get stock ROM, see ROM update, if there is none yet, dump one from a stock phone.
did you ever solve that?
Well Cmonex, Sorry for the late reply.
Later on I found that I can use most of the custom ROMs here without sticking on the customization screen. Although the WiFi never works or shows up.But I don't use WiFi so much hence it does not matter.
Up to now I can not convince myself to start cooking a ROM. I know it's not difficult to cook a rom but it's not so easy to cook a perfect ROM. Just I can not sit in front of a computer hours after hours. Now that we have so many chefs here, I'd glad to use and test their ROMs.
I did dumped the ChinaUniCom stock ROM before flashing the first ROM, but it's after already flashed your HardSPL. The link of the dumped ROM is here:
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showpost.php?p=5014258&postcount=7
[Etit: Now it's already made into an ruusigned.nbh ROM, from the raw files of China Unicom stock ROM version 1.13.706.2, for the Dopod T4288 variant model of HTC Iolite, simplified Chinese language, the download link is together with the raw files in the above link.]
So if you or any chef here have interest o look into the ROM, please. That ROM is dated end of April, maybe the latest stock ROM up to now and contains some special small apps. Please do tell me if anybody want to translate something from there, since it's CHS ROM.
Tx n bst rgz.
Not security-unlocked
Hey there.
I already had a SIM-unlocked HTC, but I purchased the unlocker so I could have my security unlocked, so I could flash another Radio.
However, that did not happen and I tried over and over again, ending up with the same error messafe: RSA Fail.
Could you please provide a way for me to do this or refund me?
