Battery Door cover - G1 Accessories

Custom Battery Doors?
So we can all agree that the Developer Version of the G1 has a pretty sweet custom battery cover. Anybody know of anywhere making similar products?I expected to find a whole slew of decorated covers in all sorts of colors by now, but I searched Ebay and some online shops and no dice.

Re: Custom Battery Doors/Plastics on Dummy G1s
Have you considered picking up a dummy G1 (like they use in retail displays) cheaply on eBay? They may use the same casing parts - if anyone knows, please tell me?
I'm thinking about getting one of the dummies and respraying the plastics purple, then swapping the plastics with the ones on my G1 (using the instructions in the service manual that showed up on the interwebs).

Sure, I'll get around to a picture in a few days.

I painted mine a while back. Sanded it down first, to get rid of the rubberized texture (for the paint to stick better).

That battery cover is not white lol. It more like gold/silver/copperish?

I asked the seller and he told me that indeed it was white, but you never know its ebay

I think that may be the UK one.
Apparently when the G1 Pictures first came out the UK white G1 Variety had a white back cover.
I have the white G1 in the U.S. and It has a Silver/Greyish battery cover.
I have had the problem that the "Softtouch" has started to fade and there is a visible copperish color coming through. The inside of the cover is in fact white, so I guess you could clean a grey one off and use it as white.
T-mobile paid (Through account credit) the cost of 15 dollars plus S&H to replace mine from HTC. I ordered the Black one so I would not have this problem again. Now my Phone is white in front, with a grey stripe around it and a black back. Looks Storm Trooperish.

all white (except keyboard)

Is it even possible to replace all of that? If I can find one without the logo in all white I would definately want one, but wouldn't it be too difficult to replace all of it?

yup, so possible in fact, that HTC wrote a manual on how to do it
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=468673
ok, not a whole manual, but it's in there somewhere.
also it looks pretty fkin hard to do, i don't trust myself tbh =/

doesn't
it doesn't really look that difficult. just follow the directions. time consuming yes. i wouldn't do it unless i found one without the t-mobile logo, that would be a waste of time. if i could find one with no logo i'd be so happy. i hate advertising for free

i have a white UK G1 and the back is the same glossy white as the rest of the phone...
the white paint is holding up brilliantly as well and as i said is the same glossyness as the front... so white front, silver trim with a white back.

I am having this same problem. I know a guy who has done the same as you but he didn't have to pay for the cover. He went in to T_Mobile and told them the problem and said he wanted a black back piece and they just gave him one. As for myself, I may just do the same.

I like the black back
I just paid up front for it, T-mob credited my account for it.
I like the black back, looks kind of Storm-Trooperish.
While a Glossy white one is most appealing to me, (I consider myself lucky to even have a white G1). I think it will be a while before white battery covers become available OEM, until then the grey back looks like its really dirty around the edges, so the white one gives the phone a more polished look.

External cover need
where can i buy a external cover? not comes with battery.. i ony need external cover (door) because mine broken. need a new one

White G1 Housing, Attempt
I have just purchased a white g1 Housing set for $50, don't call me retarded, money wasn't really an issue for me and I hate the bronze color. Anyway, has anyone actually attempted this and successfully got it functioning afterwards? Any quick replies would be awesome, ty!
do a search for the service manual. Its floating around out there. This gives a step by step on how to take apart and put back together the dream
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=468673
Let me know how this goes. Curious as to the difficulty level.
What condition is your bronze casing in? lol I have a black, but prefer the bronze.
It's in perfect condition, I only got the phone like 2 weeks ago. No scratches or scuffs, I just prefer a different color. I'm going to give this thing a go lol, unless you're talking about a trade or something.
as long as you follow the service manual perfectly (it's pretty in-depth) then you should have no problems. doesn't look too hard to take apart, just ****ing time consuming
wanna link me to the website where you bought this housing?
i wanted white also.

Anyone found a replacement housing with memory card cover?
I have dropped my phone and will be eventually looking to replace the housing.
But all the adverts on ebay(uk), none of them seem to list the memory card cover. I could use my original, but I kinda fancy a change to white! ;-)
Anyone know where to get this cover?
Thanks,
Really really sorry to bump this.....
Anyone had any luck finding spare G1 memory card covers?
Little surprised no one else is interested in this issue, especially if they fancy changing their housing (for repair/colour change) in the future.
As far as I can see, none of the sellers on ebay include this cover, so don't lose it or wreck it!
I dont think the G1 has enough of a market to mass produce housings, ebay is prob your best bet. You can try contacting HTC and see if they can give you a lead but other than that I think you'll have to look for someone with a bricked phone.
EDIT: Sorry, forgot u were lookin for mem card cover
@Edit: No problem; glad you noticed before I got round to typing reply!
Like I said, every single ebay listing I have seen does not include it.
Just seems a strange thing to for them to miss out, anyone know a reason?

HTC Dream housing

Anyone find a htc dream style housing not like the tmobile g1. ive searched on the forums and on ebay and nothing .
Hi, ive tried hunting as well to find the original HTC Dream housing in Black, the one without the T-Mobile branding below earpiece and has HTC written instead. Ordered one off ebay (after majority if not all were T-Mobile) but arrived today and was T-Mobile, emailed the seller and hope they can supply the HTC one I want!
Anyone know of somewhere we can get this specific housing, as pictured in my attachment?
Thanks
You have to get a rogers Dream housing. I'm using a Rogers Dream, and mine is exactly like the picture. (On the battery backing it has the rogers logo though)
I'm thinking about taking mine apart and painting it.
Good news! I found that if you get a rogers dream housing, then google "htc dream accessories" you will eventually find a website that sells a replacement backing that says "powered by google" which removes all branding! I just ordered one myself and changed my splash so now there's nothing left that says rogers on mine.

-----------------------------------------------------------------------
I saw these on eBay a few days ago, you should give them a try and post back about the quality/ease of installation. I myself haven't purchased or tried it before, so uh, buy at your own risk haha
-----------------------------------------------------------------------
EDIT: I did a bit of research on replacing the G1 housing. It looks like that these after-market housings often aren't made as precise as they should be and therefore fitting all the tiny parts in the G1 perfectly becomes difficult and even risky. Also, the installation procedure is very time consuming and if you aren't careful, you can permanently damage your phone. Again, buy and try at your own risk.

Did it come together with the matching sim door?
As long as you get a fully assembled back cover, this is extremely easy to do. There are just two screws at the bottom, remove them and the phone pops right out.
It did not come with the sim tray, but I think thats ok, with the original black tray it still matches the two toned color scheme. Like the black and red for example.
And petard you are misleading others, it is easy to separate the phone yes, but you must be careful when removing the micro-USB ribbon and connector assembly and the wireless charging coil! Other than delicate patience with those parts though, it is pretty straight forward.

CYAN!
@IronMan1289: Thanks for your explanation!
I was not shure why some sparepart seller say it's difficult and the phone needs some kind of calibration after the cover swap.
Anyway. Did anybody see a cyan cover as a spare part?
I would definitly risk it to change the color.

I have also done this. Swapped my Cyan for the all elusive grey. We probably bought the covers from the same seller as mine also came from the UK. I did manage to get my hands on the matching sim door as well. I also had to swap the headphone jack, USB ribbon, bottom antenna (the part where the USB ribbon is attached to), and the wireless charging coil like you mentioned from the old housing over to the new one. I also managed to solve the dust getting into the FFC problem with a few dabs of rubber cement where the dust initially enters in. Overall it was simple and looks OEM. Sorry about the bad pics. Used my old G2.

Great work bud! Does look OEM, but did you not like the Cyan? Or did you just want a color change because I have read a lot that many want at&t's exclusive color, and both times I went they were sold out!!! Lol

Thanks! Yours looks awesome too! The red definitely looks great. Reminds me of a Ferrari lol. Well I got rid of the cyan because I dropped it a few times and the left top corner got bruised up pretty good and it annoyed the crap out of me everytime I picked up my phone. I originally was gonna get the yellow housing but I saw the grey and liked it so much more. I also had that same idea, but I don't wanna keep moving the headphone jack, flex cable, and wireless charging coil everytime I switch housings. I suppose I could buy those parts and pre-install them in the other housing so all I'd have to do is plug in the flex cable and drop the phone in, but I looked it up and all those parts including the new housing came up $166. Just can't justify spending that lol. I actually heard that the cyan was available online only through At&t.

Looks like they removed them all. At least the ones that come with everything pre-installed already (antennas, camera plate, etc...)
Only one I could find is this one, but it requires a lot more work as you have to transfer everything over from the old housing.

How To: Back Cover Swap. From Midnight Blue to Cloud White

So I wasn't too big of a fan of the Midnight Blue color, but it was the only color available from T-Mobile, so I went with it. I purchased a white back cover from ebay and this is how I swapped it out.
Link to back purchased:
http://www.ebay.com/itm/261685948756?_trksid=p2059210.m2749.l2649&ssPageName=STRK:MEBIDX:IT
First is the replacement cover itself. It comes with adhesive already applied and a blue cover to be removed before sticking on.
To take the cover off the Nexus 6 I used a dull razor blade, as it was the only thing I could find that wold fit between the back cover and the metal housing. I stuck it in the bottom corner because I thought it would make it easier to peel up. I also put a piece of electrical tape at the point where the razor would touch the metal housing to avoid chipping the metal.
WARNING!!!! There is a ribbon next to the power and volume buttons that will pull up with the cover when removing make sure to use your finger to hold it down as you pull on the cover. Take your time.
Peel off protective cover of new back and stick on . Pretty simple.
Finished.
I do like it wayyyy better than the midnight blue back color. The blue was too boring for me and I am actually liking the 3 tone with white, black and blue. However, once they release the housing I will replace with the housing shipped on the Cloud White model to get rid of the blue. Also remember cloud white is slightly off white so don't a bright white. And thanks to ifixit for the instructions for removing back cover.
And FYI, the white cover has the same texture as the blue. It is also a fingerprint magnet as well, but less visible in most lighting due to the color.
Nice, thanks for sharing. Pics r a little small but still helpful.

This is why I got a new one. My new Nexus 6 from Sprint came with a few of those scuffs on the back almost like they used the phone as a hockey puck and slid it across the floor before packaging it or something. Nothing I have done has created anything like those scuffs so I am not sure what these phones went through during assembly. I knew the back covers would be cheap since there isn't even an NFC tag or anything attached to them.
Is it possible to still stick the old back on the phone after removing it or will the adhesive not be strong enough to stick? I was thinking about getting a white for fun to see if I like it.

i was thinking of picking one up, to see what/how i can paint it black (and look good) while adding texture. Let me know if you have any ideas on how you are going to do this!
Thanks. That's good to know because I'm sure I will be replacing it at some point (I have no case and the back cover will surely get scratched up at the minimal contact point)

There's a rubber paint that I saw at home depot for random stuff like painting your rims and dumb things and its made by krylon if I recall correctly. There is also a sand textured paint for outdoor decor which looked interesting. I'll have to see which one I want before I buy the back.

Someone tried that with the dbrand skin and it started to flake after a couple of days.

I have to agree, PlastiDip doesn't work well for something being handled as much as a phone, even if you sandpaper the item for better adhesion before painting
How long did the back cover take to arrive at your doorstep? It'd be nice to do the conversion before I head off for vacation in a week or so from now.

Shipping from NJ only took 3 days to get to me in Texas.
Thanks for this. Just ordered one!
does anyone know if replacing the white back with one of these blue ones will void any kind of warranty?

HAM2 Battery/Back Cover

Hello All,
Just thought I would pass this along in case there was anyone like me who regretted buying the white HAM2 due to it's slipperyness. I can't even begin to tell you how many times I almost dropped it due to it's slick surface and all the aftermarket covers I bought (5) made it just too big, so I bought an OEM back/battery case cover from the location below pretty cheaply.

When I bought mine (black one) I saw in amazon reviews that the white and the black one were different in that the back covers were smooth vs textured, which tipped my decision for the black version. Also didn't want it to be confused for a sammy product also . Thanks for the link in case my cover ever gets damaged I know where to get it. :good:

Can you please take a picture of your HAM2? I want to see what a white HAM2 would look like with a black back. Or, if anyone else wants to mess around, a black HAM2 with a white back. Like the "white" Nexus 5.

I would but the front picture would just be white and the back picture would be black.

Why did I not think of that haha. Side picture possibly? The back edge is a bit curved. If it's not too much trouble.
Her you go. You actually can see the white side trick with the black back in the side on view. It may look a bit Frankensteinish, but what the heck, I like not dropping it.
I got one of the Xtremeguard clear back protectors. They always have 80-90% off so they can be had for cheap. Works to protect and is also grippy.

Interesting! I wasn't even aware of those.

Here is a black phone that I put a white face on for my kid. I think it actually looks good.

Dunno why Huawei made the white cover slick compared to the black one. Noone likes slippery phones. Odd choice.
