[UPG]Hard-SPL Unlocker for Topaz (AT&T Pure) - Released! Now New Update to HSPL 2.51! - Touch Diamond2, Pure ROM Development

[UPG]Hard-SPL Unlocker for Topaz (AT&T Pure) - Released! Now New Update to HSPL 2.51!
[SIZE=+3]Hard-SPL Release Time!!!![/SIZE]
[size=+2]NOTE: This is NOT a SIM unlocker - it also doesn't unlock Security for other radios. if you need that, GO HERE[/size]
NEWER UPDATE: Hard-SPL 2.51.OliNex! you can update to this if you already have Hard-SPL (1.33.OliNex or 1.83.OliNex). to do the update to 2.51, download attachment update_to_251.zip and simply use customruu or do an SD flash (TOPAIMG.NBH).
UPDATE: Hard-SPL 1.83.OliNex! if you have 1.33.OliNex, strongly recommended to update to this, better compatibility with WM6.5 ROMs. you can update to this in 2 ways:
- simply download new HardSPL package and run it in Automatic mode
- or you can download the attachment "update_to_183.zip" and flash it using CustomRUU. this only works if you already have 1.33.OliNex
preface: okay, it was released only this weekend! but trust me the wait was worth it as it works really great and smooth now!
important: again, don't forget, each user gets 1 license, or perhaps 2-3 on request if needed (which is valid forever and all this works as transparently as possible, so won't be a problem at all), while businesses who need to unlock more devices than that, need to purchase it.
contact us via http://support.htc-unlocks.com (do not PM on XDA!) for requesting 1-2 more devices for private user (free), and if you want to discuss bulk unlocking also contact via http://support.htc-unlocks.com or contact cmonex.
Preparations
0) this package is for Topaz (Touch Diamond2, not the original Diamond1) devices. any TOPA***** accepted currently, as long as we don't see a CDMA or other special release.
1) if you have Vista / Windows 7, WMDC update to 6.1 (or whatever is latest) is recommended: http://www.microsoft.com/windowsmobile/en-us/help/synchronize/device-center.mspx
Instructions
read this if unsure how to install Hard-SPL... if you are an experienced user and you just downloaded the HardSPL package and it worked, then cool. but if you run into an issue, then you should read the following!
1) download newest Hard-SPL package from Topaz-HardSPL_V5_00R5.zip attachment, extract to an empty folder.
2) you must Have Phone Synced with PC in Windows Mobile!!! and it must not be in Flight mode (i.e. radio should be on).
3) NEW: internet access is required as the program checks online for updates and license.
4) run Topaz-HardSPL_V5_09R6.exe on PC, make sure it's launched from a local drive (not through network drive, etc.). XP requires Admin logon, and Vista/Windows 7 will automatically prompt to allow it to run in Admin mode, allow it please. if the exe fails to run or throws an exception (i.e. crashes), report this in the thread with exact error message/code. if you get an antivirus warning, please ignore it, it contains no harmful code (just used a packer to compress it).
5) follow steps as prompted in the Hard-SPL program. if this is the first run of Hard-SPL on a device after hard reset, you must select Automatic flash mode (the first button in Welcome screen).
notes: you should usually go for Automatic flash mode; the Manual flash option is only to be used as noted below (in NOTE 3 and in troubleshooting section) and you must only attempt the Manual mode if Automatic flash mode or SSPL-Manual.exe already put device in tricolour screen. any other errors triggered while running in Autoflash mode will have to be fixed as instructed in the error message.
6) it will ask you to wait while it prepares for the flashing, press OK.
7) now it should go through without any error messages, if one does pop up, then please follow the instructions included in the error text. if no specific instruction is shown, then ask for help in the thread, but this should not ever occur (as this means a really fatal error occurred).
8) at this point the device did hopefully went to tricolour screen reporting version as 5.09.C-SSPL, this is the SSPL version, which is temporary. then RUU will instantly launch.
9) some notes: when RUU says it will hard reset, do not worry, it is not going to do that. also when it says the flash will take 10 minutes, ignore that, it will only take a minute or so.
10) SPL flashes, device automatically reboots, job done.
11) to confirm you got it installed, go into bootloader mode (tricolour screen!) and verify the screen shows 1.83.OliNex, which is the Hard-SPL version.
NOTE: you will not see the SPL version during normal boot, that is the OS version, not SPL!
to enter SPL to check version, do a soft reset while holding the "volume down" key on the left side of the device. keep holding the volume down key until you see tricolour screen which is the bootloader mode, then release it.
NOTE 2: this is unsigned Hard-SPL. no limitations on flashing ROMs. also, this has overwrite protection against HTC RUU's overwriting HSPL with a stock one, so if someone needs to revert to stock SPL for warranty reasons, a stock SPL downgrade package is posted here below. use this relocker *only* if you need to return the phone for warranty, and only use it as last step - after reflashing stock OS and radio. see steps at the end of this post about how to reflash stock SPL.
NOTE 3: anyone having problems with the device entering SSPL automatically, please copy SSPL-Manual-Topaz.exe from SSPL-Manual-Topaz.zip attachment in this post, copy it to the device and run it. then once the screen is showing SSPL, run the Hard-SPL package on the PC and you must select Manual flash option. *important*: make sure that the USB cable is plugged in and device is synced to Windows Mobile even if doing manual method.
NOTE 4: do not use this RUU for anything other than SPL flashing (i.e. hardspl or stock spl restore)!!! nothing other than SPL's made by Olinex team (using OliNex custom cert, which is not public) will flash to make SSPL more secure. if you want to flash some other rom, then use shipped RUU or topaz customRUU if you need to flash cooked ROM.
NOTE 5: for developers asking: Hard-SPL is not based on MFG SPL, as it can strictly be used for development and hacking, contact cmonex in PM if you need that one.
NOTE 6: supported OS versions: both 32-bit and 64-bit XP, Vista, Windows 7RC and later. win2000 was untested, and pre-RC win7 (lower than build 7100) is explicitly not supported. also, the program may be unstable or not work on Virtual systems, so it's recommended to try outside Virtual OS softwares. also, version verify: if Hard-SPL package says V509R in first Welcome dialog title (and version 5.09 in About box), it is the latest version, not some crappy beta/old version.
Troubleshooting and Step by Step on reflashing stock SPL are in next post below!
credits
first, "OliNex" is a team which means: cmonex + Olipro
Olipro -> concept of EXE program that runs on the PC, Hard-SPL concept, server-side license code and maintaining the licenses.
cmonex -> HSPL package on PC, SSPL loader for windows mobile and SSPL binary. Hard-SPL binary. (SSPL loader: partially based on haret and old pof&Olipro jumpspl code),
finally,
[SIZE=+2]Donations are always appreciated, the Hard-SPL program will provide you with a link at the end of the process to make it easier. any little helps!!! Thank you!![/SIZE] - and enjoy!!

Hard-SPL for Topaz - Released!
-continued from first post-
Troubleshooting
firstly:
- read the instructions above.
- read the instructions above.
- read the instructions above.
you've donated and it still doesn't work: if you donated in Manual mode, you didn't enter an IMEI or it was mistyped. if you donate in Automatic mode, that will always work as long as the error message was about the commercial usage. to fix this, please contact us at the support ticket system link and use HardSPL - Paying category!
nothing happens on the device, does not enter tricolour screen mode:
- anyone having problems with the device entering SSPL automatically, you can get SSPL-Manual-Topaz.exe from attachment in this post, copy it to the *device* itself and run it. then once the screen is showing SSPL, run the Hard-SPL package on the PC and select Manual flash option. please do not use Manual flash option for any other purposes.
- please make sure you watch the device screen if it asks about running files (it probably won't, I made sure of that, but just in case, check).
- also you can try unticking advanced usb/network functionality in settings on the device. exact location of this will probably be: start menu / settings / connections / usbtopc applet.
general usb connection error problems
- if you get connection error in RUU after the device goes to x.xx.C-SSPL tricolour screen: make sure device was still synced via USB to the PC at the point of it entering SSPL (the tricolour x.xx.C-SSPL screen) and do not try replugging please, that will probably just crash SSPL.
- it will take a few seconds for the RUU to detect the device, but do not worry, as soon as the "USB" text on the tricolour screen shows up, RUU will see device. if not (happens very rarely), wait for RUU to time out (or wait a few minutes). then remove back cover, reset, it will boot OS again, then you can retry unlocking process.
- try a different USB port
- try different USB cable
- do not touch USB cable during the process especially if it is already a bit dodgy
- also do not use USB hub
- you can also try rebooting your PC
- and you can try using another PC.
- another reason for USB connection error: if your PC takes too long to load the drivers (if your device is in bootloader for the first time and perhaps if you are on vista), then if RUU times out, but device still says "USB" on the tricolour screen, just leave it there and re-run the Hard-SPL package when driver installation finishes - you must use Manual Flash option in such a case.
- finally, you can try disabling antivirus or firewall programs on the PC.
ModelID checking: if SSPL loader says it's for a different model or device, please contact cmonex in PM for testing SPL on that too. check modelid by entering SPL tricolour screen manually and note what it says (TOPA100, or something else). note: currently SSPL accepts any TOPA*****, but if we get notified of an incompatible (CDMA) topaz version, we will instantly modify it to deny those models.
other issues
- if device reports that Enterbootloader.exe fails to run (says missing component or corrupt signature or similar), try a hard reset.
- if device reboots instead of going to SSPL screen (x.xx.C-SSPL), which is very unlikely to happen, then contact us by PM to cmonex. do not PM OliNex user, that is not monitored frequently (and PM's to it are disabled now anyway).
- if none of the above help, read thread for further suggestions, if still nothing, make a post in thread describing all details about the exact situation.
- a new note about Hard-SPL versions: if for some reason you intend to use a stock rom, the Hard-SPL version should match the rom. (for example old 1.8x rom with old Hard-SPL, not 2.51, and so on.) cooked roms shouldn't be an issue.
how to reflash Stock/Shipped SPL - STEP BY STEP - FOR WARRANTY REASONS ONLY!
0. please make sure you already flashed stock ROM and radio, because stock SPL flash is *always* the last step before sending the device in.
1. download the Relocker attachment, extract the zip and run the EXE on your PC
2. if you wish to replace RUU_Signed.NBH that got extracted, feel free to do so, but not necessary, the included one is the 1.33.0000 stock SPL. you can also use 1.83 in attachment to this post (Topaz-StockSPL183_NBH.zip)
3. flash
4. verify if it flashed by checking version in tricolour screen, it should say 1.33.0000 (or 1.83.0000), not 1.33.OliNex.
About UPDATES:
-the last release (V5.09) added:
1. SSPL update supports more devices (especially more recent devices that would not update the SPL to Hard-SPL).
2. HardSPL binary is still 1.83.OliNex, should be fully compatible with HTC's WM6.5 RUU's.
NOTE: v5.00 will tell you to update to v5.09! and older than v5.00 will not work, so don't bother with the old versions.
-previous release 1 (V5.00) added:
1. new HardSPL binary, 1.83.OliNex, should be fully compatible with HTC's WM6.5 RUU's.
2. new SSPL binary, supporting more devices
3. fixes; this version will also tell you in future if you need an update for HardSPL.
-previous release 2 (V3.01) fixed the following 2 issues:
1. if you get this error message: "Please make sure the device is still plugged in and synchronized to the PC"
2. if the SPL version did not change to 1.33.OliNex, but stays on 1.33.0000
PS: if you still get any of these problems let us know in the thread! thank you.

Finally, it does come true, and now i may flash any rom that i want.
Great great great thanks to cmonex and olipro, you guys did a great thing to us all.

Just flashed my device with this Official HSPL without any problems (as usual). Thanks Oli/cmonex.

My screen shows only "SPL 1.33.0000" is that right? I believe not . I tried to re flash it but i couldn't do that cause of the 1 license/person "prevention".

Grats on the release! but why no release party?

nah, the license won't be a problem, if you only have 1 device, did you run the Hard-SPL package at all? any errors?

Got it and it worked
Its like making a fancy dinner, so many hours spent designing it, planning it, preparing then 'cooking' it. Only to be eaten in 5 minutes.
HardSPL installed seamlessly and now I can flash on my D2.
Thanks guys/gals.
I have left you a small donation for your hard work.

Totally confused about unlocking Cingular 8525

Apparently, I'm pretty stupid.
I just got the Cingular 8525; I have spent two hours on this site.
Things I've noticed:
One page says go into bootloader; one page says not to allow usb connections.
I do not know if I am supposed to have my non-Cingular SIM card already in the phone when attempting to do anything.
I have seen connect via USB and use mtty (with what settings do I use when I click on USB from the dropdown menu (if any) and do I connect with mtty via USB in bootloader or when the phone has booted into Windows 5.0 and again what about the non-Cingular SIM card?).
I have flashed my computers BIOS several times but I do not understand how to flash this phone based on the myriad of instructions all over this site (and RFTW did not help which is why I am here with 40000000 questions).
The steps to go from SPL 1.06 to an unlocked SIM/CID phone are?
Things I do understand:
I have SPL 1.06 (I know this from bootloader).
I must downgrade to 1.04 from 1.06 then run the upgrade to 1.06 from the Hermes Upgrade wiki page (I already downloaded all of the Cingular files).
Thanks in advance for any clarification.
I unlocked my 8525 last week, I had bootloader 1.06 so I downgraded to a ROM with boetloader 1.04(you can find it here http://wiki.xda-developers.com/index.php?pagename=Hermes_Upgrades ).. then just follow the instructions in the zip file you downloaded(i used HERM_Unlock_v2a), which are:
1. Enter bootloader mode on your Phone. To do this, simultaneously hold side OK and POWER buttons together and reset with stylus.
[You should see SPL-1.04 on the top of the tri-color screen, if you see SPL-1.06 this unlocker will not work, please wait for the next version]
2. Connect your phone to your computer using the USB lead.
3. Run the MaUpgradeUt_noID.exe program – this will reflash your phone with a patched radio ROM required to unlock.
4. Wait patiently.
5. Once the MaUpgradeUt_noID.exe upgrade completes, it will end up saying "Upgrade Error 114", but the patched radio ROM will be flashed anyway, dont worry about that error!
6. Soft reset with stylus (Device will not be hard reset and no data will be lost)
7. Allow your phone to reboot. Once it has, connect to your PC using Activesync, and copy the HERM_Unlock_v2a.exe program onto your phone. Alternatively, copy it to an SD card and insert into your phone.
8. Run HERM_Unlock_v2a.exe on your phone. Wait about 1 minute.
9. You should see a "SUCCESS!" message from HERM_Unlock_v2a.exe, after that soft reset your phone.
10. Process is (hopefully) complete!
11. If the phone requests unlock code when you put a locked SIM, the code is: 22051978
I assume I want go to 1.04 for Cingular which is 1.30.502.1.
What about my SIM card? Is it supposed to be in phone when I run this file? (it's a t-mobile sim).
I assume the activesync connection via usb is okay? I cannot get it to connect (even though the phone is on and booted into Windows 5.0); is this because I have not inserted the SIM card into the phone? Note: after I unplugged the device, setting allow USB connections on the device in the ActiveSync settings, then plugging it back in, it connected via USB in ActiveSync (4.2). However, I just got a box saying the version of ActiveSync is not compatible with this mobile device. This occured after I started the installer and it showing Verifying the information on your PDA phone.
I received an update error 260 since it thinks the phone is not connected via USB (and I noticed the ActiveSync icon in the system tray is gone).
I went to check the M$ page to see if there is a later download; there is not. Then, the AS icon return (trying to update outlook, install nero mobile) so I decided to run the installer again and now sees my current version 1.34.502.1 and I have the option to upgrade ROM

It is ok, but generally it causes more problems than it helps. Best is to disable the checkbox that says "enable usb connections" on activesync settings and you'll see the icon on the system tray turn gray with a red "X". Then you need to start the RUU when the device is in bootloader mode (tri-color screen). After you have upgrded the rom (or radio rom) you can reenable activesync again if you want.

SIM card and activesync have nothing to do.

Icon was gone because RUU checks your current rom version using activesync and then kills it an put device in bootloaer mode. If RUU cannot kill activesync correctly errors happen:
You will avoid the 260 error if you disable usb connections on desktop activesync as I told you, and start the upgrade in bootloader mode... only difference you'll notice is that RUU will not report your current rom version.
Hey. I left the RUU software running (the 25+ minute variety) while I went to buy a case and care charger. I came back and evidently, the phone had rebooted because, it is at the Windows Mobile screen to setup the Windows Mobile device. I assume it is safe to do the 2a software. After that, am I able to update the RUU back to 1.06?
Thanks for your help, Milan and pof!
I rebooted into bootloader to confirm successful downgrade to 1.04 from 1.06 and it was. The RUU software from the upgrade page for Cingular appears to have been successful.
I am now going to attempt the 2a software.
Yes, now follow all the instructions on sim&cid unlocker v2a, and when finished, flash the cingular 1.34 rom again.

It's now on the upgrade screen to Radio 1.16.00.69 but it does not show the previous version. Is this normal? I have not pressed upgrade yet. I have the splitter with the AC and USB cables into the phone (currently in bootloader mode at SPL-1.04).
yes, it is normal... i told you before:

I got the 114 error as promised in the readme. I exited the program using the EXIT button.
The next step:
6. Soft reset with stylus (Device will not be hard reset and no data will be lost)
On the phone display, it still shows Upgrade Radio Stack Please Wait..
The soft reset is the simultaneous OK and Power?
I just took the battery out and reset; it appeared to go okay. I copied the exe file to the phone and was able to run the file as in the readme. I then reset the phone, put in the t-mobile sim and it works.
Thanks much to POF and Milan for their straightforward approach. You can use this thread as a tutorial!
Is there any reason I should add the 1.06 file back to the unlocked 8525?
SPL 1.06 to SPL 1.04 back to SPL 1.06?
Hi:
I followed pof's (with pof's help) tutorial on how to unlock the Cingular 8525. I am currently at SPL 1.04 (downgraded form SPL 1.06) and had run the v2a software to unlock. It works great with T-mobile (I was a Cingular customer but made the switch).
My questions are:
Is there any reason to go back SPL 1.06?
If I do go back to SPL 1.06, it does not affect the unlock status of the SIM or CID?
I still am confused about the Radio and what that does in relation to the CID, SIM, or phone. I assume the Radio is affected the SPL version that you have?
I have tried to peruse through various pages regarding downgrading (the 13 page thread for example) to see if that question is answered.
The radio ROM controls the GSM/GPRS/UMTS hardware in your hermes. You cannot independently upgrade it unless you are running SPL 1.04. There is no reason IMO to go to any other bootloader version.

Oh okay, that clears up yet something else I did not understand
Thanks for the tip on the bootloader version; I will leave it at SPL 1.04.
That being said, I am currently in the middle of the Radio 1.20 thread; I have not finished reading it yet (I can only do so much at work before people wonder what I am doing). Have you upgraded to Radio 1.20? If not, what radio are you running and what do you think of its stability and/or functionality?
Thanks!
I'm running the 1.20 radio. It and the 1.35 TyTN ROM are the best combination I've used so far.

Trying to Upgrade to VP3G ROM

Hi,
I have done A LOT of reading on the subject, but just want to make sure I am doing everything correctly before i go ahead and flash.
The phone I am flashing is a fresh refurb 8525 with WM5.
I wanted to install the Hard SPL but am not certain if i need to install SSPL first or not. I tried to enter the bootloader screen by pressing power and OK on the side and holding SR...It takes me to a screen that asks me to select KITL Transport and KITL mode, but it seems locked up there.
The one other question i have for now is will the VP ROM automatically upgrade my Radio to the 1.48 version?
I am pretty sure i will be fine once i get the Hard SPL loaded, as there is loads of resources here, but just got hung up on a couple small things. Thanks in advancec
Well done doing your homework.
1. You don't have to hold down the Reset button (the poke-in-the-hole). Just press it with the other buttons held down to get to bootloader screen. However, you do have KITL on your phone, which is added security.
2. No, you do not need to do anything with SSPL to get to HardSPL. SSPL is done by the RUU itself - nothing you need to do seperately.
3. Most newer cooked ROM packages (i.e. last 4 months) don't include a radio. The first post of the thread should tell you. If you want to check, you can unpack the NBH file using "duttys good nbh tool" and see what is in there. If teh download package for VP3G is an exe, you may have to unrar it first to get to the nbh.
Reminders:
- use the latest RUUWrapper (if it is not included in the download package)
- use latest ActiveSync (4.5)
- check out www.mrvanx.org, if you have not already
Thanks for the helpful reply. I actually wasan't sure if i would get yelled at for having NOT read something
I still can't get to that bootloader screen, keeps sending me to the KITL. Do i even need to know which version i have or not?
EDIT: When i just do a regular SR, there are a bunch of numbers that show up...One on the bottom says "D 2.15" Is this my IPL/SPL?
Also, you went over my head a little. Maybe i should also just post in VP's download thread to ask if it has the radio and the latest unwrapper.
I was hesitant to post because everyone is so knowledgable and i am not... trying to learn without asking but sometimes that leaves you less than 100%sure. Thanks again
EDIT: Just re-read his notable features anad it says right there. No Radio, no ipl, no spl.

I had issues getting into bootloader too......my issue was just a timing/coordination problem. I finally hit the right timing after about the 10th time.

** FREQUENTLY ASKED QUESTIONS AND HELP WHEN FLASHING **
1. What the benifits are of flashing a new rom?
Flashing a New Rom basically gets rid of all the garbage thats included on Stock Roms and Flashes a Clean, Optimized, Fully loaded Rom that will squeeze every ounce of speed and stability from your phone. Chefs usually include all the programs you are ever likely to need and because the Rom has been cleaned out you are left with more memory to play around with.
2. What are the different types of Unlock? (answer by DaveShaw)
The three stages of unlock are:
SIM: Allows you to use SIM's from another carrier. Can be done using codes or unlocker programs on xda-devs.
Security: Allows you to flash radios from another device (i.e. Raphael) - It does other stuff, but this is all the casual user will use it for
CID: CID unlocking is an old concept, nowadays you flash Hard SPL instead. This lets you flash any ROM, Splash or Radio (depending on sec unlock) to your device. N.B. the CID is the carrier ID (e.g. HTC__001). The stock SPL's only let you flash ROM's that match the CID in the ROM image with the CID on your device.
Also, SuperCID is an even older concept no longer valid on newer devices.
Wow, Great job Mskip!
Just wat i was looking for.
A couple questions though...
1. These instructions will also work on the Fuze, right?
2. Once the phone is done flashing and it is booting up, we are sopposed to HARD RESET when we get to the Stylus Config part?...I didnt know that...ive read some other tutorials, and this step isnt included? ?
Fuze, yes. Sprint, no. There's no Hard-SPL for CDMA phones yet I believe.
Thanks a lot! just what I was looking for (the bit about not needing CID unlock to flash roms.. just hardspl).
gj, mskip, but shouldn't you be clear that your instructions and links are only for GSM Raphaels???? As of the past few weeks the flood gates are now open among 5 North American carriers for the CDMA version of the Raphael. No sense in encouraging confusion and hassles from those less in the know.
There is a release for an unlocker for the CDMA phones, but after a quick search some may mistakenly find themselves to your links and info here.

Its the ENTER (center) Button. I have amended the instructions to make that part easier to understand.
might sound stupid, but I think you should say what RUU means and what it is...
first time I flashed hardSPL I couldnt find what this RUU means (while reading steps before flashing).
I started flashing without knowing what it was, when I opened the .exe its title was self-explaining, but its hard to know before starting... because the .exe name is not RUU or something like that
Sorry for bad english!

Thanks great guide!
Wish i had this my 1st time flashing i was confused as ever
Thanks for taking the time to write this guide for all of the noobs (like me ). I'm still unsure whether I'm willing to gamble right away with my Fuze next month, but I've made sure this thread is bookmarked in case I decide to take the plunge!

Bricked Fuze?
I was using OliPro Rapheal Unlocker and seemed to have bricked myself. (my fault, I understand the risk) I'm not a total newbee, but first time I ran into this. Any ideas how to get past a Upgrade ROM code error? Updated from 8525 to Fuze.

I dont recognize the SPL version in your signature is it from Oli's Sim/CID Unlocker?
Can you explain exactly what you have done to your phone and when you bricked it please. Also can you load your Rom up or does it get stuck.
Have you tried flashing the HardSPL from Step1?

If you flashed the hardspl, then you should be fine and should not have done any lasting damage. You didn't read the part of the instructions that tell you that you must first flash a 1.01 version of the att radio. You can get that here:
http://www.rapidspread.com/file.jsp?id=v3q7csfizy
If you don't then you get the rom upgrade error. Just put your phone into bootloader (tri-color screen), and flash that radio. Also, as always, questions about specific roms, apps, etc should be posted in the thread they came from. That is where all the people most knowledgable about the subject are most likely to read it.
@Mskip, i think that SPL is for his 8525 not his fuze.

I did know and realize that, and your walkthrough doesn't give instructions for that either, but rather for flashing a ROM using the mSD method.
I was referring to flashing a new ROM from the MicroSD card and getting this error message in the HardSPL Bootloader screen. The ROM image has the proper name (RAPHIMG.nbh) but isn't seen by the OliNex bootloader.

Enjoy!
Frequently Asked Questions
FAQ (Frequently Asked Question) Read Carefully Please
Q1. What is the basic information about my phone that i would need to get started with this process or for troubleshooting?
Ans. The basic information that you need is displayed on the white htc splash screen that shows up when you start your phone. This inludes:
ONBL version, SPL version, GSM or Radio version and OS version.
Apart from that, you will also need the serial number of your device. This can be found behind the battery on your device or on one side of the packaging box in which your device came.
An optional thing that may come handy is the version number of your ROM which can be found by going to Start > Settings > System > Device Information. Look for the ROM Version there.
Q2. What is SPL, Why it needs patching, and what are the things i need to keep in mind?
Ans. SPL or Second Program Loader is a part of your phone's firmware. Its responsible for both loading of operating system and it is also used by operating system for some low level tasks. By Default, HTC and Other Manufacturers too, design it in such a way that it does not allows custom ROMs to be flashed in the phone. It does no by checking for the Digital Signature of HTC on roms. So it need to be patched in order to flash custom ROMs made by chefs in this forum.
There are two SPLs available right now for P3400 and P3400i. One is Olipro's SPL for Old Gene and Second is Orefkov's SPL for New Gene. These should be used according to the device they are meant for. Using wrong SPL can make your device dead.
One more thing is, SPL is needed to be updated just once. Only one of the given SPLs will work for you and you will never need to patch it again. This is true for those situations too when you flash a rom and your phone does not boots past the White HTC splash screen. In that case too, As you have just flashed an incompatible ROM, you just need to use another, compatible ROM to get your phone back. NEVER UPDATE YOUR SPL ONCE IT IS PATCHED BY EITHER OF THE METHODS
Q3. How can i be sure which version i need to use, i am not sure whether i have an old gene or new gene?
Ans. Earlier it was being thought that one can differentiate between New Gene and Old Gene on the basis of Onbl and Serial Nos. But this has not found to be true as evident from many cases of bricking.
One of the possible checks for knowing that is if your phone originally came with Windows Mobile 5, its probably an old gene, and If it came with Windows Mobile 6, its probably an New Gene. However, this is also not a concrete basis to decide the version of SPL.
So i recommend to follow these steps, These should work for any Gene without problem.
1. Use the Olipro method first. It will work properly if your device is an old gene.
2. If it fails and your phone becomes dead, just follow the instructions for using Gene Unbricker for new gene and your phone will be back again. This way, your new gene will be flashed with Orefkov's method.
Q4. Are there any precautions that i need to take when selecting a ROM for flashing to my device?
Ans. Yes, there are indeed some things that you need to keep in mind before making mind to flash a ROM.
1. Make sure your SPL is patched, ie. On boot screen it should have either SPL 1.10.Olip displayed in case of an old gene OR SPL 1.07.Oref in case of a new gene. If it is not, patch it using the Guide given below. If it is, dont ever try to patch it again.
2. After patching your SPL you will become sure that whether your phone is a new gene or old, because of knowing the version of SPL that worked for you. Now, never choose a ROM which is not built for your phone. Only use ROMs appropriate for you phone. And if you ever accidently flash a ROM of wrong version, dont panic. Just flash another ROM for your version and your phone will be back.
3. In general, never try to downgrade your ROM. Means if your original ROM was WM 5 and you upgraded to WM 6 or 6.1 Dont try to downgrade to WM5. This is specially true for WM 5 because of reasons i'll explain later.
Q5. Why is it not recommended to downgrade the OS version, ie. moving to a previous ROM version?
Ans. There is no problem actually in doing so. But there are some situations that needs to be taken care of. What happens is, Somtimes, the previous version of Original ROMs from htc, contain the older version of SPL that is very specifically made for that version of ROM.So if you flash this ROM, your SPL will again become locked. This is specially true for original WM 5 ROMs
In case your phone came with WM5 originally, and the version of ROM exactly with the one that was originally on your device, It wont give any problem. But if this ROM is not exactly the version your phone originally came with, this will brick your device and you'll have to take it to service center. No homemade solutions works then.
Even bigger problem arises when your phone came with Wm 6 originally and you try to downgrade it to WM 5. This will certainly brick your device and force you to take it to service center. SO DONT EVER TRY TO DOWNGRADE A GENE TO WM5 IF IT ORIGINALLY CAME WITH WM 6.
ROMs created by users here do not contain the ONBL, SPL and GSM parts (dont worry about the names). These only contain the OS part which is safe to use.
Q6. What are the things i can try if i get a problem while this process?
Ans. You shouldn't get any trouble if you take all the precautions, but even if you do, you can try :
1. If your gene is bricked by Olipro SPL, use the gene unbricker for new gene by Orefkov.
2. If you flashed your phone with a ROM made by some user on this forum and it doesn't works, just flash another version of the ROM or some other compatible ROM. NO need to touch anything else.
3. If you downgraded/Upgraded using any of the Original HTC ROMs and your phone is bricked, try the JTAG Method by Orefkov. Search for it, you'll easily find it. If even that doesn't helps, Take your device to service center.
Q7. What is bootloader mode, and how do i enter it?
Ans. Bootloader mode is a special mode which is use to flash ROMs. Bootloader is the part of your phone's firmware that kicks in even before SPL and initializes it. You may need to enter this mode while patching your SPL or sometimes while flashing a ROM. To do that, Shutdown your phone, Press and Hold the Camera Button and press the power button or the soft reset key using your stylus. This will take you to a 3 colored screen with your Onbl and SPL version displayed on it. This is called the Bootloader mode.
Q8. What is Hard Reset and Soft Reset and how to do it?
Ans. Soft reset is a second name for restarting your phone. It can be done using power button too but sometimes, when the phone is hanged, it needs to be done by pressing the soft reset key, situated in a small hole near the mini usb port you use for charging and headfone, using your stylus. Your phone will restart immediately without any harm. But if you have any unsaved data, like an open, edited word file or a text message half written and not saved, they will be lost. But all your saved data is safe.
Hard reset is something that needs to be done when there is some problem with the phone that is not being solved using any standard method or restarting the phone. This method erases all the files and data in phone memory (not SD card) and makes your phone as it came new from factory or just after a fresh ROM upgrade. You'll loose all your emails, calender items, Todo list, sms, contacts etc. But most of the problems get solved using this. So before using this, backup your PIM data using utilities like PIM Backup by dotfred etc.
To do a hard reset, shutdown your phone, Press and hold the two soft keys (the keys above the call accept and call reject keys) and press the reset button using stylus. A black screen will appear warning you about the consequesnces. Press the Green key (call accept key) to start the process.
The Step By Step Guide
The Step By Step Guide
CAUTION: DO NOT UPDATE ROM OF A PHONE THAT IS SIM LOCKED. THE RESULTS ARE UNKNOWN BUT MOST OF THE TIMES IT PREVENTS YOU FROM USING THE PHONE ANY FURTHUR!!
If you like to backup your existing rom first, follow this guide by Ankit360 to do it : http://forum.xda-developers.com/showpost.php?p=3215838&postcount=20
Step 1: Download the Tools
-------------------------------
Download the tools zip file from here:
http://www.4shared.com/file/81084740/fa599d63/SPL_Unlocking_Tools.html
Its a self extracting file, just start it and give a path and it will unzip all the files in your chosen folder. Inside the extracted folder you will find these things:
1. SPL Updater : Inside it there are 2 folders, Olipro and Orefkov. These contain the two SPL patchers that we need to use.
2. ROM Update Utility : This contains the ROM update utility we will need to flash a ROM. Unzip it into a folder.
3. USBDriver4ActiveSyncVista : This contains a special driver for Windows Mobile Device Center in Vista that you need to use to successfully update your ROM. Unzip it in a folder too.
4. Download a ROM appropriate for your device: Which one is appropriate, you'll only know after updating your SPL. So do this step after that. But in any case, here is a link to a good ROM, created by me, which is available for both new and old gene:
Sumit's Pro Users ROM (WM 6.1, for new and old gene)
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=467796
Step 2: Preparing your phone
--------------------------------
1. Copy the file gene_hspl.exe from the SPL Updater\Olipro folder that you got in step 1 to the phone memory.
2. First, on your phone, Go to Start > Settings > Connections > USB to PC. Here, uncheck the checkbox : enable advance nerwork functionality. Click OK. Disconnect and Reconnect the USB cable to your pc.
Step 3: Prepare your Computer (Please pay attention, this is crucial!)
--------------------------------
XP Users
----------
There is not much you need to do. Just open task manager and kill the Active Sync executable from the processes tab. Its named as wcescomm.exe.
Vista/Windows 7 Users
-------------
You need to take these steps :
1. Go to desktop, right click Computer, and select Manage. Go to Device Manager. Now under the section Mobile Devices, Double Click : Smartphone USB Sync.
2. On the Drivers tab, click "Update Driver..." button. On next screen click : "Browse my computer for driver software".
3. Click : "Let me pick from a list of device drivers on my computers". Click "Have Disk.." on next screen. Click "Browse..." and go to the folder extracted in step 1. There, go to USBDriverforActiveSyncVista folder. Here select the file "wceusbsh.inf" and click OK.
4. Click Next and finish the wizard.
NOte : YOU NEED TO DO THIS TO SEE THE "USB" BUTTON IN MTTY WINDOW IN LATER STEPS. DONT SKIP IT!
Step 4: Use the Olipro method first.
-----------------------------------------
Open File manager on your phone. Go to the location on phone memory where you saved gene_hspl.exe. Tap on it to run it. Your phone will restart after a short pause.
Now there are two chances :
a) If its done alright, you'll see SPL 1.10.Olip on your boot screen and your phone will boot just fine. And it confirms that you have an old gene. You do not need to do Step5. Proceed to Step 6.
b) If it doesn't boots, and only green and red keys blink, Don't worry. Your phone is bricked but you'll get it back using orefkov's method in a minute. Proceed to next step. And this confirms that you have a new gene.
Step 5: Use the Orefkov Unlocker
------------------------------------
1. Remove the battery, SIM card and SD Card of your phone and press the Power key for 20 seconds to draw out any residual power from the phone.
2. Replace the battery but not the SIM and SD card, and don't start the phone yet. Press and hold the Camera button and then press the Power button or Soft Reset button. Phone will come to boot loader mode (tricolor screen) and SPL 1.10.Olip will be displayed.
3. Connect the USB cable. The text USB will appear on the bottom of the screen.
4. On PC, go to the folder Orefkov in the folder extracted in step 1 and run the Mtty1_42.exe. Press the button "USB" in the window that opened.
5. In the window that opened, type the following command (don't use copy paste please) and press enter:
Code:
set 32 1
You'll see a response from phone.
6. Type the following command BUT DON'T PRESS ENTER YET:
Code:
ls boot.bin
Note : that is small L and small s in that command, dont mistake it with I.
Now, hold down the Camera button on phone, and press the enter key on computer. After a while, the screen will become White. Continue pressing the Camera button for 10 more seconds.
7. Now release the camera button, close the MTTY program and run ROMUpdateUtility.exe in the same folder, not the one outside it. That one is for RAM flashing that we will use later. Check the boxes in each step and click Next Next and then at last Update. Let it finish the process. Your phone will restart.
8. Now on the splash screen you'll see the info with updated SPL version. The version of SPL will be 1.07.Oref.
Congrats! you have successfully patched your SPL.
Step 6: Flash the ROM
---------------------------
Now let the phone boot once and then shutdown it. Insert your SIM card, but not the SD card. Go to the PC and copy the ROM file (it must be names RUU_Signed.nbh. Rename it if it has some other name.) into the ROM Update Utility folder that is outside the Orefkov and SPL Patcher folder.
Now press and hold the camera button and start your phone to go into the Boot loader mode once again.
Now Run the RomUpdateUtility.exe and follow her instructions. Please make sure that you are not running RomUpdateUtility inside the Orefkov folder in SPL Updater folder. You must use the one outside, in the RomUpdateUtility folder. Your phone will automatically go into bootloader mode and a progress bar will be displayed on both phone and PC. Once it completes, your phone will restart again and you'll get the phone with the brand new ROM.
Step 7 : Set your PC and Phone back to normal
------------------------------------------------
This step is only needed in case you are using Vista.
The driver we updated in Vista will not work for normal active sync operation. So you'll need to set it back to the original version. There are two ways to do that. Either, uninstall and reinstall the Windows Mobile Device Center Or Follow the same procedure gicen in Step 3 but instead on clicking the "Have Disk button", choose the driver from the list already given.
The driver that you need to install can be identified by have a newer version given in front of its name. Also, the newer driver's name includes "Microsoft Corporation" while the older one has only "Microsoft".
You can Put back your SD card now.
On your phone, again go to the Start > Settings > Connections > USB and check the checkbox there and click OK.
That's it! You are Done.

In the past I have flashed several times of cooked rom by chayn & lomlom without changing to permanent HSPL. It was done by temporary CID unlock method as running jumpsp.exe while pressing and holding Camera+VoiceReco button and flashing. Presently we are using Vista Design build 20270 by Chayn and and still my onbl& spl displays 1.17.000.
Today I tried to flash Ankit M2D rom using previous method, flash completed successfully, device restarted but stuck on boot loader. Then i restore my Gene by RUU_Gene_hTC_Asia_India_1.17.720.1_4.1.13.34_02.79.90_Ship and then flashed Chayn Vista Design 20270 which is working fine.
Please confirm whether my Gene is NEW or OLD as if it were NEW then Ankit's ROM Should work. Sorry for my bad english.
Thanks..........
Yours is an old gene i guess. Using Serial No, ONBL and SPL versions for recognizing your phone as a new or old gene is not reliable. chyan and lomlom's both have provided some excellent roms for both new and old gene so i cant say about that also. But ya, if Ankit's ROM is not working then yours is an old gene, i am 99% sure.
Thanks for your quick response to our query. Further, could you please advise me better ROM for me to Flash.
Also, I have created 1% increment battery dll and tested on my gene which is working fine. Is it possible to include it in your ROM.
@krazy
Oh Boy! Now we have an old Gene (3400i) with 8 series number and 1.17 onbl. Great going HTC !
Guess you have some really busy time coming up.
BTW:
Do you know typing? Better learn it soon .
What to say brother, HTC is just making things difficult, i guess they want to sell the higher end mobiles too. But i dont understand, apart from WinMo 6.1, their higher end mobiles have faster and greater hardware. So how come flashing a gene with WM 6.1 and Manilla 2D can affect their sales? I wont go for a P3400i if i had the money to buy a diamond even if both of them can/already have WM 6.1.
I know typing very well, you might have got some idea from the amount of text i post when i post a new rom I am ready, give it to me baby! Yeah! LOL!

Hey man, its really nice! Love it. Will include it in ROM is some more users gave positive responses, as you know that the ROM is not for somebody alone, its for the community. So will have to take some feedback before including. I'll post it in recommended downloads section in both of my roms. Thanks for it mate

There are no 'staffs' in this forum, we all are members just like you . Please elaborate your phone details (the details your device shows when you switch on), then someone will be able to help you out.
@qasid: The battery bar did not show up in my Gene in the top bar . Using a manilla2D version. any ideas?
@shaunak! Have you tried sdkcerts patch, I think it will solve the issue.

backup orignal rom
to bauckup orinal rom orefkov created small programm for it.
Programm dump_gene_os_extrom.exe do dump os and extrom from Gene to memory card. Created files are identical os.nb and extrom.nb, extracted from official RUU_Signed.nbh, and allow rom coocking with it.
Usage:
Copy dump_gene_os_extrom.exe on your device. Insert SD-card with at least 70 MB free on it. Run copied program. After some time you will see message - Dump complit. On SD-card will be files os.nb and extrom.nb.
how to flash ?
use htc rom tool
click on build tab
device = gene
u see firmware contain on right
give path Ext. ROM to extrom.nb
OS to os.nb
click on build u get new file called ruu_signed.nbh

Iolite Hard-SPL Unlocker - Released

well, Hard-SPL is released now! sorry for delay, I got distracted elsewhere
[size=+2]NOTE: This is NOT a SIM unlocker - it also doesn't unlock Security for other radios. if you need that, GO HERE[/size]
[size=+2]Donations are always appreciated to the big link in our signature ("elite project"). You can also donate via the link offered in the new Hard-SPL program. Thank you!![/size]
Preparations:
first an important note, if you want to flash more than one Iolite, contact cmonex for additional licenses via http://support.htc-unlocks.com. (the first license is transparently granted and free, so normal users do not need to worry.)
0) this package is for Iolite (Touch Cruise II/2009) devices. for any IOLI***** so far (SSPL loader checks this and gives a warning if needed), afaik there is no CDMA version so all the model variations should be fine.
1) if you have vista, WMDC update is recommended: http://www.microsoft.com/windowsmobile/en-us/help/synchronize/device-center.mspx
Instructions:
read this if unsure how to install Hard-SPL...
1) download latest Hard-SPL package (currently v1.10) from attachment, extract to an empty folder.
2) you must Have Phone Synced with PC in Windows Mobile!!!
3) NEW: internet access is required as the program checks online for updates and license.
4) run Iolite-Hard-SPL EXE on PC, make sure it's launched from a local drive (not through network drive, etc.). if you are on vista, launching as Administrator is strongly recommended, on XP administrator login is required. important: if your AV (norton/symantec mainly) warns about a virus, ignore it, it just doesn't like the packer I used to pack the program.
5) if possible, always use Automatic flash mode (for uses of Manual mode, see troubleshooting section)
6) it will ask you to wait while it prepares for the flashing, press OK. follow steps in the program and then in the RUU.
7) some notes: it should go through without any error messages, if one does pop up, then please follow the instructions included in the error text. if no specific instruction is shown, then ask for help in the thread, but this should not ever occur (as this means a really fatal error occurred).
more notes: when RUU says it will hard reset, do not worry, it is not going to do that. also when it says the flash will take 10 minutes, ignore that, it will only take a minute or so.
8) device should go to a tricolour screen now that says 1.09.C-SSPL, this is the SSPL version, which is temporary.
9) SPL flashes, device automatically reboots, job done.
10) to confirm you got it installed, go into bootloader mode (tricolour screen!) and verify the screen shows 1.09.OliNex, which is the Hard-SPL version.
NOTE: you will not see the SPL version during normal boot, that is the OS version, not SPL!
to enter SPL to check version, fully power the device off by long press of power key, then power on while holding the "volume down" key on the left side of the device. keep holding the volume down key until you see tricolour screen which is the bootloader mode, then release it.
NOTE 2: this is unsigned Hard-SPL. no limitations on flashing ROMs or radio packages. also, this has overwrite protection against HTC RUU's overwriting HSPL with a stock one, so if someone needs to revert to stock SPL for warranty reasons, a stock SPL downgrade package will soon be posted in this post as well. use this relocker *only* if you need to return the phone for warranty, and only use it as last step - after reflashing stock OS and radio. see steps at the end of this post about how to reflash stock SPL.
NOTE 3: do not use this RUU for anything other than SPL flashing (i.e. hardspl or stock spl restore)!!! nothing other than SPL's made by Olinex team (using OliNex custom cert, which is not public) will flash to make SSPL more secure. if you want to flash some other rom, then use shipped RUU or customRUU if you need to flash cooked ROM.
Troubleshooting:
- read the instructions above.
- read the instructions above.
- read the instructions above.
Manual flash mode for USB issues: you should usually go for Automatic flash mode; you must only attempt the Manual mode option if Automatic flash mode or SSPL-Manual.exe already put device in SSPL tricolour screen and you got USB issues. any other errors triggered while running in Autoflash mode will have to be fixed as instructed in the error message.
ModelID checking:
- afaik no CDMA model, so doesn't matter but let me know if you got any problems.
nothing happens on the device, does not enter tricolour screen mode:
- anyone having problems with the device entering SSPL automatically, please make sure you watch the device screen if it asks about running files. also try unchecking advanced usb functionality in settings.
- if it crashes instead of entering SSPL, you need to use Automatic mode.
general usb connection error problems if you get connection error in RUU after the device goes to 1.09.C-SSPL screen:
- try manual SSPL: copy SSPL-Manual-Iolite exe to the device and run it, then when it went to 1.09.C-SSPL tricolour screen and shows "USB" at the bottom in this screen, use Manual option in the Hard-SPL program on the PC.
- make sure device was still synced via USB to the PC at the point of it entering SSPL (the 1.09.C-SSPL screen)!
- try a different USB port
- try different USB cable
- do not touch USB cable during the process especially if it is already a bit dodgy
- also do not use USB hub
- you can also try rebooting your PC
- and you can try using another PC.
- also you can try unticking advanced network functionality in start menu / settings / connections / usbtopc applet.
- another reason for USB connection error: if your PC takes too long to load the drivers (if your device is in bootloader for the first time and perhaps if you are on vista), then if RUU times out, but device still says "USB" on the tricolour screen, just leave it there and re-run the RUU when driver installation finishes.
- finally, you can try disabling antivirus or firewall programs on the PC.
other issues:
- if Enterbootloader.exe fails to run (says missing component or similar), try a hard reset of the device.
- if device reboots instead of going to SSPL screen (1.09.C-SSPL), contact us by PM'ing cmonex. do not PM OliNex user, that is not monitored frequently.
How to reflash Stock/Shipped SPL - STEP BY STEP - FOR WARRANTY REASONS ONLY!:
0. please make sure you already flashed stock ROM and radio, because stock SPL flash is *always* the last step before sending the device in.
1. take the SPL relocker attachment, and run the EXE - this will flash 1.09.0000 stock SPL. simple as that!
2. flash
3. verify if it flashed by checking version in tricolour screen, it should say 1.09.0000.

Once you have Hard SPL, you can flash any ROM's (Cooked or Shipped) to your device. So put on Hard SPL, find a WWE ROM and flash it .

I've just checked the re-locked and it does contain the correct SPL.
Connect your phone to you PC using AS, and then run the re-locked, once done your SPL should be 1.09 (with the .OliNex) again
