lost satnav - igo8 - Touch Dual, MDA Touch Plus ROM Development

previously had tmobile rom but been playing today with various roms and cannot re-install igo 8 from micro sd.
tried loads of roms as i didn't save the original tmobile rom but once igo is installed, it crashes out at splash screen.
previously installed easily and worked fine.
any suggestions ppl?????

Try the latest NemanjaLO WM 6.5 roms, it works.

where did you get igo 8 from? is it any good?

Been using iGo8.3 for the past 6 weeks whilst touring Canada and US. Works brilliantly. Some of the streets needs updating, and the US map has a bug of announcing exits from freeway on wrong side of freeway, ie announce exit Freeway on left when exit is on right side. displays the exit correctly though.

The folder ui_iGo8 in the data.zip will have all the resolutions. If it is missing, search for it and add it, or alternatively, google data.zip and igo8 for a modified version.

I had a problem installing from the card. Take the card out, Soft reset the phone and then put the card back in. It should autorun iirc.

Comm manager

Hi all.
Well, I made the jump from the Hermes to the Athena.....and it is a great device. One thing that I miss was the assortment of comm manager configurations that were available for the Hermes.
My question is does anyone know of a 9 or 10 button comm manager that will work on the Athena? I would like to have the voip button to try to make all of it work with this unit also.
If not, I could even deal with the current one if it wasn't GREEN !! Any help is appreciated.......Later

Actually,I was looking for one of the comm managers like the ones that we get with the phones. Even another carriers version would work....at least it would not be green....LOL. I tried a couple of the ones for my old Hermes without much success. I do not believe that it is formatted properly for the Athena. All of the buttons were distorted and nearly unreadable.
Thanks anyway......Later

Worked for me. Also any ROM past the 2.09 Sprint seems to have this feature built in.

That's not really much help since the only ROM past 2.09 (2.16) was found to be totally buggy a week later and pulled.
So while it seems future ROMs from Sprint will indeed enable >4GB SDHC support, for now one has to use of the drivers/cabs that have been lifted from other HTC devices.

The Touch Dual Unveiled

I got my Touch Dual earlier today and am discovering it bit by bit...
I've already made a few hardware observations which I've posted in another thread and will hopefully merge into this one.
Seven hours into the Touch Dual, one thing that still puzzles me is the ROM. Putting aside the lightning fast speed and the brilliant quality of the actual hardware (casing), there are some tiny itsy little bits that have not been extracted and included in the ROMs that simulate the Dual for the regular Touch- until now [correct me if I'm wrong] I have discovered the different graphical representation of the call lists (Missed, Dialed, Received) and the large buttons to make it finger-friendly.
Other things that still puzzle me are the following:
1. The Touch Dual has only four tabs on HTC Home (Home, Weather, Launcher, Profiles) - until yesterday I was using the 6-tab Home plug on my regular Touch and I always assumed it came from the Touch Dual. A friend of mine has the Kaiser and that doesn't come with the 6 tabs so I'm wondering where it comes from
2. Network Plugin. Again, I have been using this feature for a while and assumed it was extracted from the Touch Dual but it's not on my Dual.
3. The HTC (busy) animation. Where does this come from? I was using this on my Touch (I installed it) and I was expecting to find it on my Dual but the Dual has the regular vista-like busy animation and I had to install the HTC animation myself
I will add more as I discover the device more and anybody please correct me wherever I may be wrong. I am still learning the Dual!
how much did you get it?
i remember it was about 2700 dirhams in one big electronic store in Deira.

6 tab homeplug came with the ELF you had it from the day you got your Touch... all images were there just not activated.
the reason why there are only 4 tabs .. is because it has the Cube and the cube has a Quick dialer and a Mediaplayer so there is no need for these to be in the home plug too.

gullum,
you mean to say that all this time we never needed to download any of the updated Home plug cabs or HTC Home Customiser and all it needed was a simple registry edit??? I was using my regular Touch until this morning when I got the Dual and had always wished I could get the tabs to appear without having to install anything.

well if you flash from the storage card, you can save time by
1) downloading the rom direct to your athena.
This saves time by having to not go and turning on the computer, retrieve your sync cable from behind the sofa, swear at the amount of time it takes for the flash prog to work out that you already have A) an athena, b) a rom c) bootloader mode, that it is the 3rd day after you danced widdershins to the light of the new moon.
2) change the name of the rom image to ATHEIMG.nbh on the storage card, go into bootloader mode.
3) sit there worrying that it's all going well.
4) enjoy the new rom in much less time than it take boil the kettle (a few times).
I've flashed the athena once from desktop, and at least 5 times from card now, so much simpler and quicker.

Thank you apd . i will give it a try.
however, you'll still need to use a pc to stick ap4.0 on from what I've read, as you'll need to flash the new spl, if that's what you're thinking.
Unless Oli pro has got very creative....
I'd also like to point out that it's the 3rd day after a new moon (i think)

TomTom

So I read today that TomTom is finally available for "some Android devices". Bizzarrely (and somewhat predictably), it's not available for the highest-profile Android phone on the market (the S3). Why is it that this often seems to happen with new apps - i.e. the S3 (and previously S2) are rarely amongst the first devices to be supported? Are the underlying reasons usually technical, marketing-related, ...??
It might not be the answer you want, but TomTom is quite over-rated.
The google Maps + Navigation combo has become a very mature product and beats every single similar app I have tested.
Except for the curiosity factor, TomTom offers nothing over what we already have.
It's the lack of off-line routing (and re-routing) that detracts from Google Maps/Nav - especially when you're paying very expensive data roaming charges....
I don't see any TomTom app on market. Can you elaborate

https://play.google.com/store/apps/details?id=com.tomtom.ukireland
I always though TOMTOM was the best, in the UK anyway. Google navigation is fine, but it is a real pain when you have no reception (driving round in a forest for 30 minutes). I thought I would buy it on another device and see what happens when I copy it over using Titanium backup. Trouble is I don't seem to have any compatible devices.
Maybe you should try Sygic: GPS Navigation
It supports offline maps too, and works best for me in my country,
And some excerpts from news online
"For its part, TomTom hasn't said why its application doesn't support devices with higher resolutions, but it did reassure users that it's "committed to supporting higher resolutions on an ongoing basis." It's not clear when that will happen, though."
Yeah Sygic is pretty dang good. It even used TomTom maps and traffic data.

Every phone sat nav review i have seen puts Tom Tom on the IPhone4 as the best .
CO Pilot second place .Both of course have onboard maps .
Only negative is Tom Tom supplied Apple the maps for IP5 .

TomTom South Africa works well...no problems...love the fact that the street names are actually read out
But it doesn't want to update...always fails to connect to TomTom servers...
