Massive Helvetica Makeover??? - Touch Pro CDMA

So.. I know there's a few tools to switch out Tahoma for other fonts. Anyone ever tried using Helvetica? That's probably the cleanest, most easily readable font in existence for me, and I'd love to completely convert my TP for it. A few tools I've used can't seem to get all the Tahoma out.. anyone?

well someone correct me if im wrong but there are font files in your rom, about 3 or 4 of them so if you take the helvetica and rename it to the 3 or 4 different fonts you currently have on your device then you should be straight. hope this helps

Thanks for the reply! However, I did try this, and I cannot for the life of me even FIND the font. They aren't in Windows\Fonts as far as I can tell, they may be hidden. I'll give it a whirl in Total Commander, I've only tried in File Explorer so far...

yes that is your problem, also it might even be better to dump the rom and replace files then reflash.
p.s. the file ext is ttf

Hmm.. just checked it out with TC, I can't edit the files or move/delete them... Not sure if I can; I'd bet they're embedded in the ROM.

WM 6.1 Welcomehead Splashes

A little while ago I posted a blue windows mobile 6.1 welcomehead splash. A lot of people seemed to like it, so I made a few more and packaged them up. This package contains the blue one as well.
Enjoy
thanks was looking for these hahaha, and now i got em all in a neat package.
Thank-you sir. Much appreciated!
hey gc, how would i go about implementing these? theyre BMP images, while the default welcomehead.96 is a type 96 file or something. what do i do?

Hey, first off, they're .png images, not bitmap. Second, pick which one you want to use, rename it to welcomehead.96.png, and put it in your \Windows folder (you probably will have to use Total Commander or something equivalent as it may not let you just copy it to \Windows). That's it...soft reset.
Thanks, very good !

Are these only for 6.1 or can we use these on a stock Windows 6.0 device (Verizon XV-6800)?
Thanks!

These are welcomehead splashes and can be used on any windows mobile device that uses welcomehead.96.png as the splash image. The reason why I labeled them WM 6.1 Welcomeheads is because they all say Windows Mobile Version 6.1 on them. You could use them running WM 6.0, but it'll say Version 6.1 on the splash lol.
for anyone who wants to download these directly on their phone, just go to www.wikiwhore.com/splash.zip
i set up a mirror there because logging into xda to download files takes a while sometimes, its easier without passwords...
gcincotta, thanks for your work, look forward to using pink...
Can you make the same thing for this picture please ? (I would like it in blue)
For what it's worth, making your own splash images is pretty easy.
All you need to do is make sure whatever image you want to use is the proper dimensions. For the Titan, that's 240x320. Even the simple "Paint" program that comes with windows can save files as .png files. All you need to do is find an image you want, resize it to the right dimension, save it as welcomehead.96.png, and then save it to your ppc's Windows file.
If you cook your own rom, you can have up to 3 splash images AND use a customized .gif animation. GIMP is a program that you can find for free that is similar to photoshop that will make .gif animations.
On mine, I have a picture of my son, then a picture of my wife, then an animation I made & finally a picture of the Libertarian Party's logo with my username above it.
Hi guys,
Do you know where I can find this one but with "version 6.1" written on it, like the rest of the pack you guys have?
Thank you

[Q] How to port a theme?

Didn't know where to post this, and couldn't find an answer to my question anywhere.
So, to my noob question.
How do you port a theme? Do you actually need to change codes and stuff? Or is it just as easy as changing the images?
There are a few apps on xda somewhere that do most of the work for you. Here is one of them: http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=737526
But it really depends on whether your porting from another ROM of the same resolution or if it differs.
If it's the same then you can simply drag and drop the images from one to the other.. I use 7-zip for that.
If it's from a different resolution then they will need to obviously be resized...
...in either case if you have to resize or make any changes to the .9.png's then they will have to be re-patched before using - read up on this before doing so.
Thanks! Gonna try it out.
Hm, tried it. Did like it said, tried to install it but no change.

Tried what, the Theme Porter? To be honest I have not used it as normally just move the images myself. Just try changing one or two images to start with and then go from there.
If you're familiar with making update.zip's or pulling and pushing .apk's via adb then you should be fine.

[Q] My Framework Edits = Force Closes

I'll try to provide as much detail as possible. I am no expert (probably obvious) at theming, but I'm interested in learning. So I decided to try my hand at adding an accurate battery to Eugene373's Ginger Clone R2. Here's what I did:
1. Decompiled the framework-res.apk using the Android Theming & Tweaking v2 Alpha5 tool. This resulted in missing chunk errors with the quick_panel_list_stroke_01.9.png, status_bar_background.9.png, and status_bar_close_on.9.png.
2. I grabbed the 3 9patch files from a stock JK6 rom to replace the corrupted ones.
3. I replaced the battery icons, stat_sys_battery.xml, and stat_sys_battery_charge.xml with the ones neccessary for the mod.
4. I recompiled the apk with the same tool.
Now the battery mod works, so I doubt any of those files caused the issue, but I did notice two things. First, the file is now almost a full meg smaller than before. Second, the directory structure inside the new framework-res.apk is completely different than previously. Eugene's framework has a "-v4" extention at the end of all the drawable directories (ex: drawable-hdpi-v4 instead of drawable-hdpi).
I have a feeling that there's some fundamental difference between my compilation and Eugene's, but I had no errors at all when compiling the apk. I've tried to find the answer without bothering anyone, but all my searches have resulted in no answers. Hopefully someone out there can help with this.
TLDR version: What the heck is the difference between drawable-hdpi and drawable-hdpi-v4 (and similar directories) and is this the cause of my force closes?
Shameless bump
any one have the answer to this?
i cant find much but this help some http://forum.androidcentral.com/fascinate-roms-hacks/45526-framework-res-apk-utility.html

Well I had to manually add the "-v4" extensions to his .bat, but it really seems to be working well. Apparently it's all about packaging the new .apk, but then copying over all the new images, xmls, etc. to the original apk. Whatever it is he's doing, I applaud him for it I was just about to give up framework edits before you found this. Thanks again!
I'm glad it works cause I was in the same boat

Where is Helvetica S .ttf?

Good morning.
I use Helvetica S font and want to use it in Jotre calendar (an excellent calendar by the way, give it a whirl if you haven't tried it).
I've dug deep with Root Explorer and can't find the .ttf anywhere, only the other bundled fonts (default and Rehotalko). I've got the apk, but obviously I can't "install" that into Jotre.
Am I missing something? Can it be done? I know Helvetica isn't a "free" font, but I thought that the .ttf must be there somewhere.
As always thanks for any assistance.
Maybe try nabbing it from here or grabbing it from your OS install.
or maybe try using apktools to rip open the apk and see if theres a tff in it
Thanks and good morning veyka, all well?
Way too early for adk and cmd, will try the tool in about 5 coffees time..
I'd seen those fonts, and many others, all the freebies are a bit meh, IMO.
I'll see how I go with my tool (fnurr), if it doesn't work I'll - grudgingly - open my wallet.

More googling..
Edit - Just had a thought - I'm not being illegal here am I? Copying an installed, bundled font to another app is OK?

[Q] Custom Boot Animation - Exporting Issues

I have created a new custom boot animation that I plan on sharing out with the crowd, however I am having issues with the animation playing during start up. I know I have the desc.txt correct as well as the naming conventions. I have tried both png and jpg sequences and to no avail.
I am zipping them up with WinRar as bootanimation.zip w/ "Store" and the compression (no compression).
I have tried all kinds of settings on these files and they just won't display and I am tired of beating my head on the keyboard. The only thing I can think of is that it has something to do with the image files themselves. I am exporting them out of After Effects as PNG sequences as well as jpg sequences and have gotten it to start running and then it just stops once it hits a certain frame. Is there any specifics that I am missing as far as settings on jpg or pngs? Is there anything special about exporting them from After Effects?
Any help would be greatly appreciated. It shouldn't be this damn difficult, but it's always the easy crap that gives the most trouble.
Awesome, 68 views and not one response.

see if this one works for you(ran it through optimizer to make it a little smaller too).
remove it from the photon-bootanimation.zip and rename it if need be and put it where it goes

Holy crap it worked. What app did you use to optimize these files? (link) And were there any specific settings you used?
I swear it had to be something embedded within the file itself. I had exported from AfterEffects and then tried re-saving them using Fireworks and Photoshop with a bunch of different settings and file types, but nothing worked. I even went as far as tinkering with permissions on the files and set them all to 777. Imagine the frustration.
Thanks a ton, I greatly appreciate it. I'm going to share this one (with proper credit to your help) and I also pitched you a donation.
Cheers!

Thank you for that.
And I will send you the optimizer files later(away from pc and really easy to use if your going to use pngs) as for why it didnt work is at the last line of your desc you need to hit enter (so your last line is blank after the last line of code)open the one I made in notepad++ to see what i'm talking about. I'll pm you a few tips later if you want? Thanks again for donation(saving for more phones and tabs to learn on)

wow, I knew it had to be something stupid. Any addl info you can toss my way would be appreciated. Thanks again and feel free to PM anytime.
