just a feed back on my new touch 3G for all my buddies here - P3400 ROM Development

Hi
first sorry for creating this thread if u feel its a wast
im sure all here are going to buy new WM phones and i thought the best i can do for my buddies here is to give u a feed back on my Touch 3G
1. The phone is real fast very very good lot of mem space good enough
2. The battery to my knowledge is good it gives around 2 days for a heavy user like me
3. the phone is very very sleek and nice looking
4. This is bad -
if u need to soft reset this phone u need to open the back panel and then use the stylus to soft reset ie the soft reset is in the phone and not at the bottum as in our gene this is very irritating but then u have SW to do this and i have installed one to do so (im using pocket toolman for this)
5. to see the SPL u need to get to the tricolor secreen ie boot secreen
u cant see on the start screen when u power on the phone
6. wifi is real good i caught a few wifi at bangalore and was able to browse
im not a techi so i just stated the simple facts i hope this is useful to all
and yes the Jade section is not even half as active as this great section
and yes yes i really miss my gene
and yes i do love all u guys( i mean brother sisterly OK im happily married pls dont take it otherwise OK)

Thanks for the review buddy. I knew that apart from keyboard, there is nothing missing in this phone. BTW buddy, does it have FM Radio? I have also talked about a us imported 3g enabled diamond for around 15K. I initially thought about Touch Pro but i had wrong info, the price is still ridiculously high at Rs 32,000. So i dont think i will be able to buy it anytime soon.
Diamond that come in India doesn't have 3G, but this model that i am talking about is from US and is working great on 3G here, it belongs to one of my friend, about 4 months older. Lets see if i can get the deal.

thanks haree

Well maybe yaar, but i will choose this phone if i have no other choice. This is not beacuse phone is not good, its great. But this time i have two requirements, atleast a vga screen and keyboard, out of which i dont think i m going to have keyboard as htc is pretty f***** up in the market, they dont have any decent handset with hardware keyboard in the range of 18-25K which is the thing why people prefer nokia even though they want a winmo. In Windows Mobiles, you get less features for the price you pay, thats a bitter truth and its all because monopolists like htc make it so. Though samsung and some others like imate and o2 have good devices, people like us stay away from these coz of support issues, like it is for htc devices on xda.
Anyways, so atleast i am gonna have a VGA, 3G handset with Wifi, GPS and FM radio. SO i guess i would go for the 3G diamond if possible. Otherwise, if there will be no option, i will be there in Jade forum
PS: Sorry for some bad words, i am feeling a bit angry with HTC. They really dont have left any choice for "budget" buyers, although a 18-25K phone can certainly not be considered as a "budget" phone, if you look at average salary structure in India these days.

@krazy buy it man
hi
but all said and done im having fun using this phone getting a lot of attention few days back i was at my customers place he loved my phone so much and it looks good man sleek & sexy man(see now im trying to convince u to by as i know how good it is for me )
but it feels good i am getting a lot of attention with this phone
any way im sure even if u buy a new phone ur gona keep ur gene and this section wont miss u
if there will be no option, i will be there in Jade forum

@sumeet
Why don't you go for android-based phones?there is one for 19 k with a vga screen +keyboard+hardware GPS+wifi

Hey Hari, just for your information, HTC has released a ROM upgrade for your Touch 3G. It solves some issues with the device related to Wifi, GPS, Camera and most probably a newer, more faster version of Opera. It was released on 17-4-2009, so you may already have it, but do check it out, if its newer, upgrade your phone. The update is here :
http://www.htc.com/in/SupportViewNews.aspx?dl_id=541&news_id=146
Its an official ROM you dont need to flash HSPL to your device. It will work without any problem.Just download, backup your data and flash it.
Have fun with your new toy!

@Blueangel: Angel dear, even if i have to be with my gene for 2 more years, i am not gonna go with any other OS now. You have missed some of my posts regarding my love for this OS i guess
Anyways, Android is too immature of a platform for my needs. Even Symbian 5th edition is better then going with android. I dont have a liking towards linux based platforms personally, i dont feel at home with these.
Thanks for your suggestion by the way

hey dude wht's the price?

@Krazy Thanks
hi
thanks for the info i did chek but when i put my serial no it said this is not for my mobile thanks buddy for the info

My sentiments, I will also never go for any other OS but WinMo, and most likely no other manufacturer but HTC (no credit to HTC though, thanks to xda).
But lets see, a new forum is coming up pretty fast, to support non htc devices .

hi haree, is the jade better than the diamond cause i think they are abt the same price (at least here)?

Depends on your needs, although spec wise diamond is better with all the specs of Touch 3G plus in addition, FM Radio, VGA screen and 3D Graphics Hardware Chip powered TouchFLO 3D interface. But in some countries, Diamond doesn't come with 3G capabilities and it has a smaller sized battery (900 mAH).

I think I will buy a vga or wvga, wqvga whatever a bigger screen, I prefer a windows Mobile with usb host capability, plus a good camera pixel like 5 or 8mp. I think this model wont be with Htc. I have decided to use this gene as must as I can till I find the stuff.Sometimes I wanna buy N97, but then as always nokia will disappoint me, coz I cant change the appearance or performance like windows mobile, hell with nokia no windows only symbian.

@Lewelynn
hi
im from India and the diamond is not available as 3G yes their is the Diamond 2 which is a 3G phone but very costly here(INR29,000) as i wanted a 3G phone this was in my budget i got this phone but if u can get a dimond3G for the same price as the Touch 3G in ur county may be u should by it as it has M3D but u cant upgrade the Memory on it has 4GB on the phone thats all but as per my info i can upgrade the jade to 32GB of Memory i really don't see myself using more the existing 4GB memory i have
but performance wise im happy its fast, decent battery life for me im happy

there is no use of 3g in india , it take more 1-1.6 years to start it, crap provider like mtnl has it but it not yet implemented fully in mumbai also 3g drain your battery fast as compares to edge gprs and need more powerful battery

Why should anyone convince you? If you don't like it, don't need it or don't want it..... leave it.
But if others like to fool around with there Prophet, don't argue either. If anything in live should have a practical reason the world would become a gray dull place to be, don't you think?
(Now is gray a color that matches perfectly with the HTCTouch theme by the way.... )
Who cares if it is usefull to flash anyway... It just fullfils some basic need we aparently seem to have in us.
I have windows mobile 6 running on my Prophet (Smart1 V3) and for me it is a lot faster than wm5. Not more stable, but stable enough. But a hell of a lot faster...
WM6.... HUMM Well it´s a lot faster that (default speed not overclocking.) WM5 .. but my main problem is that it mixes my contacts with mails and sim contacts .. i hate that ... In terms of stability i think it´s the same.. and if anyone can insert the portuguese keyboard layout .. that whould be wonderfull.. that whould make this perfect

No need to explain. Windows 98 and 2000 were also so stable and clean. But we are at Vista now. If you choose to stay where you are, you learn nothing, you progress nothing, and you are nothing.
The speed, the inherent keyboard and its facilities, the sms versalities in file management, the Cube, the HTC Home additional photo contact pics, there are lots of little nitty gritty embedded with minor improvements...
All of these shows we are on the move, and not at the stone age.
Yes, there are instabilities, and with third party softwares you might crash and burn. But we can't wear helmets all the time when we are on the street... We need to live boldly and meet the challenges. If you care to venture into this forum, you are already the one who feels itchy to move, otherwise, you are still using the good old grand father's phone at home with fixed networks.

If you haven't already bought it:
Do not go for it if you will use it for messaging, touch screen only input isn't the best idea when you want to use it for meesaging. Go for a device which has a keyboard (even a Alpah-Num keyboard is better than none). Whenever I have to send even a small sms, it freaks me out. However, if thats not the case, its the best value for money PDA around.

Buddy, is this the case even when you have ezinput keyboard?? I dont feel the need for a keyboard much with it. But ya, the original SIP is not very finger friendly. And the problem that i feel with keyboard based devices is that they often have small or non-standard screens (i mean they are standard, but software create problem with screens like wqvga etc). SO i would not like to go for it.Anyways, its a matter of personal choice though.

Vox has a QVGA screen, so no issues there, and size is also good enough 2.4" (though not as big as Gene ). Since that guy is just buying his Gene, so I don't think he will be in a rush to flash it (Like me, I flashed it the very next day ), and thus void his warranty. So ...
Actually I just loved the full QWERTY keyboard of Vox, may be because it was my first.

Back from a vacation, and nice to see lots of excitements here. Sumit & Ankit, keept it up guys!
I do own both Vox and Gene. But I am far more comfortable with touch screen input. Reason being, the qwerty keyboard in Vox needed both hands to operate it, which is difficult, especially when you are travelling in a crowded train or bus. I found, Gene far better in this case, as I could easily operate all the keys with one hand. But, as Sumit suggested you should go for a better keypad than the default one. Touch Pal is my favorite keypad, which allows me to access all keys smoothly without any hassles...

Tg01 will have a perfect driver combination after this release. Due to similar hardware concept. If ported.
Hope we might get a branded wm6.5.3 ROM in mere future.

K01 is 7inches. this should probably be tg02. but any how the UI is bettr in the pic. this can be ported to tg01. That is my idea. we can get all negatives rectified by porting wht all we wanted like radio OS ui n many more. Definetly they would have rectified n improved all defects errors mainly battery drivers. its wm6.5.3 were grphics should be the size of our tgo1 4.1inches.
Day by day our tg is becoming stronger n stronger. lot of chefs to cook better roms, port anything maximum we need.
Due to the failure kinda image to tg01 made them chng name to iso2.
which companies product r these n which going to rule out.

There's nothing remarkable about them that was not there when the TG01 was released in June last year. A capacitive touchscreen updated the TG01 and the AMOLED Capacitive display and QWERTY sliding keyboard as well a more capable 3D user interface are the only things differentiating the K01.

Buying HTC HD2

Hey XDA users !
I'm planning on buying a new phone. HTC HD2..
I really like the huge screen and the interface so yeah...
Just a few questions ;
- I'm from Israel and I'm gonna buy the Sim Free T-Mobile version... Will I be able to install all of the regular t-mobile ROM updates ?
- Does using themes and stuff can cause problems EVEN if you do it right? What is the risk ?
Thanks in advance !
Regular rom updates, yes..
Theming.. Hmm then you would be better of with custom roms,
in order to install those, you should install HSPL, that is actually a little dangerous, but only if you don't follow the rules. everything is explained very well around here. I did it and once you done that, you can install custom roms made by developers here, or you could even go give android a try yes, with SD card you can run android.
The only real risk is flashing your phone when battery is low, always make sure you flash when around 100% full, so if you do something wrong, you can easily correct your mistake without problems. (because when you **** up HTC won't fix your device) so always read what the threads say. I flashed over 100 roms, never had any problem! so I would say, you get used to it, not really a high risk but you must follow instructions, first time read about 3 hours, after that, it goes fast
oh, welcome btw
Hehe thanks for replying
Pretty sure I got it now..
btw.. just asking.. can I disable the 3G network ?
I really don't wanna spend too much money on internet..
So I prefer using WiFi only for now..
Thanks once again !
EDIT; Oh yeah... another question... what' 'Manila'?
Yes, you can disable 3G or data altogether. I use mine as Wifi only with no problems.
Manila is another name for HTC sense or touchflo3d.
You can currently run windows mobile or android on the HD2. Explore the forum to find out more.
Indeed, I needed that too. Nodata.cab for winmo and in android you can just switch it off 3g and other data.
Manila is the userinterface htc has put over windows mobile and is way better then winmo on its own, that is what much devs modify and tweak to get better roms, customised for everyones needs
Oh wow.
So many names for just an interface lol !
Thanks

So where do I start....what easy steps can I do? HD2

So I have had my HD2 a few months now and I've been happy with the stock look and feel.
Now I would like to start trying a few of the xda add ons and roms.....
However I do not wish to blindly jump...I figured I would ask the pros here.
So I would like to move up to the newer windows 6.5.x ( not sure what version were at), with the task bar at the bottom.
So I am on the Rogers Network ( Ontario Canada), with an Unlocked HD2.
I bought it on line but was unaware at the time I got wrong unit for here, as I only have edge...no 3g ( Unit from Hong Kong via Vancouver and ACEGSM).
No worries though, as I do not need 3G as I do so little on line on phone...Weather, a little FB, Yahoo mail, MSN Mail....so Edge works awesome for me.
So if I am to flash say mainly a stock look and feel to start, where should I start?
As said, phone came from Hong Kong
OS Version 5.2.21869
Manila Ver. 2.5.19211619.0
ROM Ver 1.66.707.1 WWE
Radio Ver. 2.07.51.22_2
What would my best picks be for my unit?
Is there an Oficial HTC Flash that brings me to the updated windows 6.5.x?
Is there someone who could advise me on what way is dumb guy proof ?
I can flash, as I flashed my Typhoon enough times......but a Typhoon and an HD2 are 2 different beasts.
Many Thanks in advance for any who step into the Yoda roll here!!!!

Many Thanks !! I will try this out first.
So I still nned to find out, is there an HTC rom upgrade to move me up to Windows 6.5.3 ??? (or what ever the latest version is )
Or is that only by using a rom from XDA?
The reason I ask is it would be nice for me to have the buttons along the bottom of the screen, rather then the 2 screen buttons and the start at the top.....my thumb is rather stubby, so getting to start is a 2 hand job
There arent any official 6.5.x roms with the bottom start button, you'd have to HSPL your device and use a cooked rom for XDA.
Check the stickies in the rom development section for all the info you need on this.
Im not gonna make an assumption as to which model of HD2 you have, if it is the american model (green and red hardkeys / big fat double chin) then you need to be aware of the radio your flashing....
Seeing as you got it from HK then its probably not that one, better safe than sorry though....
As long as you read up on the subject first and make sure your reading the correct information for your device you cant really go wrong.
95% of the "bricked" phone horror stories you see on here are down to people not doing their homework first....
You mention that you'd prefer a close to stock feel for a custom rom so probably either an "artemis" or one of dutty's roms would be your best choice....
To be honest though if your happy with the performance your getting from your stock rom then it might not be worth the switch unless you really really want the 6.5.x look.....
+1 on the CHT suggestion too.
A must have (in my humble opinion) for any HD2....
Hope that helps.......
Many many many Thanks !!! Both donwhann and conantroutman !!!!!!
I will try CHT first before a flash, then when I have read, reread, understand the steps required I will try the roms named.
I have to say XDA is an awesome place to learn....it was a godsend giving my SMT 5600 (Typhoon) new life. As my friend who now uses my old phone will tell you.
Now I will be able to keep my HD2 feeling fresh and fun, thanks to XDA and it's awesome people
Thank you greatly for the advise !!!
