Scary Procedure
Hello! My touch screen is scratched and I bought another one to replace it. Well, it isn't so easy and after I dismantled the device, I decided not to replace it and wait for some tips because no documentation exists. No manual included with the package and no info on the net. (there are some youtube videos for other phones)
After you open the device, you end up with your phone in 3 parts. The Touch screen has a black marquee surrounding it witch I don't know how to remove, and it is connected with the main board with a very very thin wire witch I'm afraid to pull and I'm not sure if I have to pull it or do something else to remove it from the main board. Tips are welcome. Thank you!

i've tried to open the device.
It's not so hard:
AT OWN RISC!!!
Unscrew the 4 screws, click it slightly open.
now you can see on 1 side a small flatcable for the digitizer, unlock it by swapping the behind of the connector. Unplug it.
Flip the PCB and unplug the 2 connectors for the screen and buttons.
Now you can unscrew 2 litle screws at the buttons.
remove the buttons carefully.
Now you can slightly press on the back of the old digitizer untill it loosses.
Place the new one, carefully press on the glue-parts untill you think it is tight enough.
Now read this post backwards to put it all together again.
If you're ready, push the on button.
When it asks for the pincode press : volume up + centerbutton to calibrate.
Et voila.
AT OWN RISC!!!

Scratched external screen
Hi Marcell-o! I also managed to open it. But the problem is at the last step. the external screen has some kind of black "rubber" that holds it in place. that's where I don't know what to do. I attached a pic to see what I mean.

You can leave it there.
You have to push at the back of the digitizer.
it's verry tight glued so you have to be patient and careful that you do not break the housing.
The rubber you talk about is meant to leave dust out of there.
i placed my new one just now and it works great.
I made some pictures of the repair and i'll post them tomorrow if i don't forget.

Here are some pictures with some info.

before the repair it was like this.
As you can see, it was in a very bad shape.
you can see what i use the most.
The "X" at the upper right corner and the IE scrollbar (yeah thats right, i use Explorer )
When you managed to open the cover you can see at the right side that there is a very small flatcable. (this is the Digitizer cable)
You can open the connector by flipping the handle to vertical.
Use tweezers to unplug it.
Now you can flip the mainboard. As you can see there are 2 more flatcables unplug them with tweezers.
by the way: #1 is for the screen and #2 is for the buttons
Place the mainboard on a safe place so it can't be harmed.
Now the hard part!
Unscrew the 2 very small screws on the red spots and save them on a place where you can find them back again (I lost one and it took a half an hour to find it back on the floor with a magnet whehe)
Now the screen and the button-PCB is ready to take apart from the casing. A bit of the flatcable is glued so be patient.
When you managed to loosen the screen and buttons, place this part at a safe place so it can't be harmed.
Now this is tricky.
Now you have only a front casing with the digitizer.
It's very tight glued so you have to press at the back of the digitizer to loosen it. Be patient, you can break the casing of your device.
Also take care that you do not break the flatcable of the old digitizer because you have to place the cable of the new one at the same way, take a look at the old one when you placed it apart from the casing.
You have to flip the cable like this picture when you placed the new one in the casing.
when you did this, you can replace a little cushion which you had to remove from the flatcable from the old digitizer.
Now replace the screen and button part. replug the 2 flatcables, place the mainboard its place, replug the small flatcable of the digitizer (be sure that the handle is vertical when you do this. When the cable is plugged, place the handle horizontal.
Replace the backcover, the 4 screws, simcard and the memorycard and batterycover.
Press the on button.
Et voila!
As good as new :
The only issue is, that we do not have a dust free environment like HTC has.
The result:
Don't forget to calibrate

You are from the Netherlands, where did you get your screen? I am from Belgium, that's why I am asking...
I have two problems with my Jade:
1) My screen is all scratched up, and I need to replace it, so for this only the upper part is needed, right?
2) A few weeks ago when I was in the bathroom and took the phone with me there is since a square "oily" stain in the middle of the screen. I read elsewhere that it's due to the humid enviroment, so I guess I need to replace the LCD part too?
I saw that the screws beneath the backcover are Torx, but what number Torx is it exactly, and is that same Torx used for the screws on the mailboard of the phone?

What you need for the scratched screen is indeed the touchpart(digitizer)
The screws inside(for the buttons/screen) are just the four points(?)(kruisschroef) The mainboard is clicked.
Can you make a picture of the "oil" stain maybe it's also solved with the digitizer replacement.

just this morning I've managed to replace a digitizer in my Jade, as it was punctured by some pointy child's teeth . A bit unlucky though, cause I couldn't find this thread before (silly me !) as to get some instructions how to do that.
I'd like to add some tips to Marcell-o's guide:
1. The tools you need are:
TORX T6 screwdriver for 4 outside screws
Philips PH0 (or 00) screwdriver for 2 inside (button panel) screws
Thin Tweezers for replacing flat cables.
Office/Swiss knife for replacing Digitizer itself
2. To prevent any damage to your front cover, I would recommend to 'cut-off' the Digitizer from the inside, before pushing it out. I used a thin Swiss knife for this and started from the top corners, slowly going towards the bottom. This also left all (or most) of the glue at the case side so there was no need to apply additional glueing.

3. To make your Jade scratch-proof as well as responding better to your fingers, I'd recommend the Advanced Screen Protector from ProPorta.com. It's nothing close to cheap crap from e-bay as 3 screens for a quid and literally increases touch sensitivity rather than decrease.

First of I would like to say thanks to this forum.
I try not to post any problems that have already been answered and this forum was a big help in getting my xda unlocked.
However I had only had my phone in working condition for 2 weeks, enough time to start to like it, when it fell and cracked.
I ordered a new glass screen (no bleeding ink) and had it overnighted. I sucessfully swapped out the broken scree, but in the process I screwed up the phone. So here is whats going on with it, if anyone can help me out it would be awesome.
When taking it apart I accidently broke 2 of the connectors for the ribbon cables on the back of the pcb. Now the phone wont turn on. The screen comes up but its just white and I cant tell if the os is loading.

Well, I guess it depends on how broken the connectors are, but this definitely doesn't sound good...
If you post a few close-up pictures, I'll tell you if there's any hope for fixing it.
Well..
One of those 3 connectors lead to the screen.
My wild guess would be that it's not porperly connected since it's borken.
In that case, I would have done one of two things:
1. Buy a connector through an electronics component vendor, then ,manually replace the broken one or have a electronics lab do it for me.
2. Solder the wires to the connector's base manually (or in a lab) to over-ride it. (I hope you understand what I mean).
At any case, my guess would be a broken connection somewhere in the connectors (one of the 3). This can probably be fixed that way or another.
BTW - I have a lot of dust between the glass and the screen. How do you remove the glass from the screen (it seems to be attached firmly somehow)??
To take the glass apart from the lcd, there are 4 metal tabs (2 at the top and 2 on the bottom) you can pry a thin flat-head screwdriver between the metal tabs (you will see what I am talking about, when you look closer). It will sound bad but its just the glue coming apart.
I tried to get the connectors but had no luck finding a match.
So I am going to part out the phone.
Ill be posting the ebay auctions for the lcd screen, the new glass piece, the motherboard, the battery/case and whatever misc accesories I have lying around.
Before I put all the parts on ebay, I figured I would give the people on here a crack at it. I will entertain all reasonable offers. Send me a PM.

Edit: Dont need it anymore, I have done it, not difficult at all (similar to Nokia phones). HTC made Topaz very easy to disassembly.
I was cleaning part between digitizer and LCD from dust with antistaic brush and compressed air.
There are just 3 connectors to disconnect mainboard (digitizer, phone receiver and LCD), to get to the LCD. No coaxial cables to connect GPS and bluetooth antenna (all just by touch connectors to the black plastic top back part), Chipset is covered by metal plate, cant see it.
LCD: S/N: 1EJV093Q000069
P/N: 60H00209-00M S508
Can I request you get some high res photos of the PCB/LCD and/or record the ic part numbers while you've got it apart? It would be really useful to know for Linux/Android development.
Can you post what kind of gps chipset is buildin ?

One problem that has been reported, and I assume it was something you suffered from, is dust entering through the volume rocker and finding it's way onto the LCD display.
This seems rather an oversight by HTC as usually the LCD panel would have some form of seal or bezel (sticky or foam) to stop dust. Does the LCD panel have anything like this at all?

Disassembling the Diamond 2 is really simple.
Remove the 4 T5 screws at the four corner
Remove the small plastic cover below the battery (might be optional)
Pop the main plastic body off the face piece (I use a really small flat screw driver) Starting from the top of the device
Remove the 3 connection then pop the main board
Remove the 4 hardware buttons then remove the LCD screen
I'll try to take some pictures when the new LCD screen arrives...

Thanks for the steps. I just yesterday disassembled my TD2, but didn't dare remove the connections on the mainboard. The one on top left (see your pic mainboard.jpg) is no issue, but the other ones are tricky...or at least I thought they are. I couldn't figure out how to exactly remove those connectors. Could you maybe give some steps or info on how to remove those connectors? Thanks again for your help.

Hopefully it's not permanently attached to the LCD like the ATT Fuze is. I took my Fuze apart and destroyed the LCD while trying to install a new digitizer. Apparently they use some sort of extremely strong glue between the digitizer and LCD...
Hopefully not.. But I think it's only glued to the frame.. I don't really know what kind of glue to use for the new one though...

Sorry to tell you all that the Digitizer is permanently attached with LCD. I know this because I was drop my D2 and went to service center. They change to front cover (case) which was broken when droped. when I get it back they give me back my old front cover and I notice that the digitizer is stick with over part.....
When I ask the service's counter. They told me that they have to change the new digitizer because it come with whole part.. not saparated.

Sorry for lag of my understanding, Yes the digitizer is stick with front frame, not a LCD. In my case, I ask the service to change my front cover because it broke and they change the front cover + digitizer.... because it stick together.

i replaced today the broken digitizer of my topaz.
Got one for $60 from ebay, with a screen (i wasn't sure if it was a screen problem or digitizer so i got both.)
you need to unstick the old one from the housing and attach the new one. i didn't use extra glue/stick , since the old one was left on the casing.

I would suggest finding the parts list for the phone and finding out exactly what digitizer is needed then buy one online from somewhere such as e-bay. I did this with my G1 replaced it myself and it worked wonderfully. Research before you buy otherwise you might end up buying the wrong one or a clone which doesnt work as well
I dun it myself, buying one digitizer from ebay, getting the old one out was a little tricky , but appart from that it was easy(and i had to do it again, as i dit not secure it properly and there was dust comming underneath the screen from the sides. Any questions you could ask, but it is pretty straight forward.

My digitizer broke last week, because i droped my Diamond!
But don't worry I am a rookie in technical things and I managed it to replace my digitizer on my own.
Don't waste money on repair charge from repairshops! Ok... you loose your garantie but the Cellphone is allready old. The new HD2 is already available!
Just buy the digitizerscreen at ebay... i've paid 60 € and then use this manual:

HTC Pure Digitizer or LCD
i just got my new AT&T HTC Pure and somehow my screen is cracked. The LCD does not appear to have any bleeding or damage and the touch features work, but I have two cracks from top to bottom on my phone. what are your thoughts. I attached some pictures

It's a bit hard to see on the photos but if its new can you not return it? if not then you need to look closely between the digitizer and the screen and see if the damage is just the top layer or the screen, if it is the top layer then just replace your digitizer!

As always this site is a big help. Just ordered the items, and thanks to the guide I'm fairly confident I will pull it off. For me the bottom 2cm's of the screen have shifted about 1cm to the left somehow. The digitizer still works "perfectly" but it's kinda hard to hit the right buttons like that

Broke my digitizer and did the job myself using the youtube guide above. Just used straight up superglue to glue digitizer to frame. I put a bunch on the top and bottom and very little on the sides.
Amazingly the phone worked when i put it back together... for a while until I screwed up one of the ribbons by opening it a bunch more times. Be extra careful with these, especially the volume/camera ribbon. You can bend it pretty easily trying to slide it back into its slot.

My Arix got under the tires of a car (please dont ask how ) and only the digitizer broke, then i replace it with an OEM digitizer from amazon and now the proximity sensor is malfunctioning (Turns off the screen when im not near it or doesnt turns off when im near it), and there is a line of the screen that doesn't respond to tact. could it be the digitizer that came defective, or maybe it was the installation? oh, the other digitizer was broken and all but the light sensor was working fine and also the other thing. Sorry for my bad grammar.

I replaced my digitizer, and had the EXACT same thing happen (not the light sensor but the line in the screen that doesnt respond to touch).
Get a new digitizer, but get it from someone else.

No. I sold it and let someone else deal with it. Didn't have the time to replace the digitizer again. Too much of a hassle.
I just replaced a digitizer on an atrix... i didnt put any adhesive on it because there was what i thought was adhesive strips on the digitizer... but there's strips on the screen that doesnt respond, i heated it n tried reattaching the digitizer a few times n sometimes the home and back button will work, sometimes they wont... any suggestions? could the lack of adhesive cause this?

Just went through 3 digitizers in my repair, and wanted to share my experience/caveats
I bought one digitizer from All4Cellular for $25, and the others with a 20% discount a few days later, for $20.
I installed
the first using the RepairUniverse Youtube 'how-to' method, and had a heck of a time threading the flex cables through the slot. Bent/twisted it too much, and nothing responded on the touchscreen, so I read some forum posts on how fragile they were, and regarded that as user error.
Got the idea to move the LCD screen from another RepairUniverse YouTube video and a previous post here, and tried installing the digitizer from the front face of the phone. It was still a delicate matter to bend the flex cable so that it fit through the slot, and then re-position the LCD and align the sticky strips of the digitizer on the LCD and casing. Part of the digitizer worked this time - a 1cm vertical strip on the left fowled any attempt to touch icons or use a keyboard, so I thought I had damaged things again (doh!).
Hoping third time was the charm, I completely disassembled the phone using the guide in the 'ifixit' link, since a digitizer/case assembly was suggested in another thread. The rear camera just needs to be raised above the casing so the thin plate can move upward, and the LCD pops out easily if the sides of the casing are delicately pulled. The digitizer can be positioned easily and with minimal bending/twisting of the flex cables.
When reconnecting everything the third time, I noticed that pressing down on the front camera / digitizer connection *with the rubber boot in place* didn't pass when pulling the connected assembly upward. So I pulled the rubber boot out of the way and snapped the camera / digitizer connection firmly, then re-inserted the boot. A loose connection might have been the culprit for the nonfunctioning part of the digitizer in the second test.
@MrSaba - I had the same issue with capacitive buttons - perhaps because the screen senses touch and disables those buttons. Replacing the digitizer solved the issue

Here's my story - broke a screen, as usual slipped from my pocket. though broken, digitizer worked fine. after replacement with new one (digitizer only) - no luck it didn't work. bought a new one, this time with a plastic part around it to avoid damage to it's cable. after careful repair no luck once again - does not work at all. downloaded a testing app (i was able to remote control the phone with a piece of soft called androidscreencast), everything is ok, except digitizer. checked and rechecked all ribbons and connectors 10 times, nothing seems to be broken or twisted.
what's your opinion, is it worth buying third one ? what part of my repair went wrong ?

Not all digitizers are created equal. The ones that ship with the red stripe on the backing are junk. Spend more money and yes buying with a frame is key. Did you try reinstalling the original screen or did that ship sail already?

The first one was with the red stripe indeed, from china. The one with a frame came from UK, "used but tested OK". original screen is gone - tore off flex cable while removing.
Well, update...
2 screens bought on eBay were BAD. Had to wait full month for authorised motorola service to change the digitizer. Must say though that both merchants on ebay refunded, no questions asked. Lessons learned - pay more, wait longer, never give up

What I noticed on their video was that their folded digitizer connector magically unseats itself during the disassembly transition. I had to pry mine off based purely on guesswork and think I might have broken the flip-chip that is stuck onto the frame with double-sided tape. Like yours, my touchscreen doesn't respond at all, despite there being no cable tears. I'm going to try and re-heat that flip chip and maybe get the connections to work again (doubtful).
To anyone else out there attempting this... when you go to remove the touchscreen, HEAT THE CONNECTOR so that you can gently pry it out!
Bad screen I got 3 before it worked its fine now if old one partially works new one doesn't screen is junk took mine apart several times to figure out screens were junk...guess they felt sorry for me give me my money back plus free working screen.from amazon
Also that lock clamp u mentioned first video I watched didn't show unlocking that I just pulled it out and pushed back in it was the 2 screen that I figured out it needed to be pryed loose by the white clamp but guess I didn't damage it..

I have just put in my second digitiser. The first was one had a red stripe, which was junk, the second on I bought had the plastic round the edge and the digitiser.
I put it in and it worked fine no dead spots at all. Then 12 hours in it started to stop working intermittently. Then 24 hours after that while on charge its dead again. I reflashed notattrix and still nothing. I've confirmed all the ribbon connectors are firmly in place and everything looks right.
Any ideas whats wrong?

Okay, so my Terminator...errr, my son, managed to crack the heck out of his Nabi 2 digitizer screen. The LCD screen is fine and he can still use the Nabi, but I've noticed more and more cracks so I'm sure it's bound to break the LCD.
So, I went on eBay and ordered a piece of glass, but I'm not thinking it's not going to work. It was only like 13 bucks. I had a model number given to me after the fact (at070tn90), and I just looked and I didn't get that one. I'm just hoping it will work.
At any rate, I finally got the Nabi apart, but I've been fearful of removing the connectors for the screen. Can someone PLEASE tell me how to get the screen apart so I can try to replace it when I get the correct glass for it? PLEASE! There are NO Youtube vids for this...tons for the Nexus 7, but nada for Nabi.
Please help...I'm desperate! Thanks so much!!
The likelihood the digitizer isn't cracked is very low.
NABI2 touchscreen layering:
front glass..............thick (glue around outer most edges to frame)
airgap......................very thin (glue around edges)
digitizer glass........thin
lcd............................thick
I tried the same thing but the actual digitizer glass is like 1/10 the thickness of the front panel glass and glued to it on the edges. If the digitizer glass is not cracked, it will probably crack on attempted removal from the front panel. If the digitizer is fully working in-spite of the front glass cracking it may be possible to heat the front assembly up to the point the adhesive allows the glass to just fall out.... but as far as how close the glue melting point is to the melting point of the plastic frame is not something I know. The entire assembly is put together with some super strong double-sided sticky tape. If you can source just the digitizer and glass assembly I'd like to know.
Once one attempts a replacement and it doesn't work is it still possible to get Fuhu/Nabi to replace the screen (at reasonable cost)?
( If not you could just plug in a keyboard/mouse and use the hdmi out... would make a great XBMC server... once the port exists... )

I already put it back together because he was taking everyone's iPhones to play games on. lol The glass anatomizer (or whatever it's called), had a long thin strip and the LCD had a thicker one. Either way, the glass nowhere near fit. I had a feeling it was going to be too hard to replace anyway; hence the reason I can't seem to find a tutorial on fixing a Nabi.
And yes, Fuhu will fix it for like 85 bucks plus shipping...I only paid 90 for the tablet just recently (Craigslist). Oh well. I guess we'll just let him play till he cuts his finger.

I have a Nabi 2 on which I've removed the broken digitizer. It was a bit more difficult than I had anticipated. I had to keep the heat gun on the glass and avoid heat-damage to the plastic. I used a small knife between the digitizer and the plastic frame. Next time, I may heat and bend a cheap knife into a Z shape to get under the glass without lifting it too much. I did get it out in some large pieces, but am not sure if I could do it intact if it hadn't been cracked.
Anyhow, the LCD looks great, but I can't seem to find the digitizer anywhere. The ribbon cable has a sticker with the following:

I am sorry for bringing back an old thread, but has anyone found a source for a proper replacement part for this? I am having a hell of a time finding a replacement part for the digitizer in my nabi2. It's as if nobody makes a replacement for the digitizers with EP0700MLM1 on the ribbon cable. About the only choice I have now is to find a used part, and pray that it also has the same kind of LCD screen within the housing.

I am looking at a few on Fleabay now. You need to take yours apart and compare model numbers with the ones on Ebay. Just search ebay for Nabi 2 digitizer. about 20 results for it, ranging from $25 -65. The $65 one is a complete front panel minus the LCD. just unscrew the top panel and replace, it looks like.
Wow...I'm the original poster...and here I am years later still bothering with Nabi! lol In 2014, I went on Nabi's site and paid $60 to have the digitizer replaced. I never sent the Nabi in because a friend of mine gave me his kid's Nabi to use for parts (he couldn't get it to charge any longer). I took the entire front panel with LCD and digitizer and replaced it with mine. Worked like a charm...until my younger son stepped on it...on purpose! Lil turd! So, here I am again trying to fix the screen, BUT, this time I noted that I needed the LCD and the digitizer (the ribbon on the LCD was breaking off - not sure how that could have happened). At any rate, I ordered both the digitizer and LCD. I replaced them both and it's a no-go...not working. I still have it apart, but I have the cables plugged in, so when I move the screen around, the Nabi screen will come up, but the touchscreen isn't working. I may be sending the digitizer back, but I'm wondering if it's because of how they are lying on one another. Does anyone know if maybe the touchscreen doesn't work if it's too close or too far from the LCD screen. I don't mean by an obvious amount - I mean is there a "specific" amount of space. I am trying to get it in the casing exactly like it was before, but I don't want to do anything permanent until I know it's working 100%.
Also, you can easily and cheaply get the LCD and digitizer for the Nabi now - just stinks you have to order it from China and it takes forever to get here! I can only imagine how long a return/replacement is going to take. Ugh!
Oh, and Nabi has yet to return my $60 bucks...I have spent way too much on this tablet!
I ended up having to match my part number to a used but good part off of ebay. I had ordered several "new" digitizers and they never worked. There seemed to have been a design change somewhere along the line, or some missing information that made mine not work with the "new" parts available at the time.
However, to answer your question, the digitizer will work completely separated from the LCD as long as the ribbon cable is attached (of course). Rather than reassembling everything, I would only connect the digitizer to see if it worked. When I finally found one that worked, I then committed to doing the full repair.
It was a very painful process.
Is it an easy thing to take apart and put bk together if you have never done this before my daughter stood on her Nabi accident it was under her comfort blankie opps screen cracked but works fine she's only 2 ( well advanced for her age) soI dnt want her to use it incase she cuts her tiny fingers doesn't feel sharp but dnt want to risk it can't find any view on u tube still many years on be nice if someone would do one haha
Honestly...
It was a pain in the ass to remove the glass / digitizer from the nabi. If you're not careful--as I was--it is real easy to deform the plastic bezel that the glass / digitizer and LCD reside in. I ended up having to buy a replacement bezel that already had a digitizer and LCD attached to it. The LCD was DOA, but the one from my original was fine, so I begrudgingly transplanted that too.
Test the digitizer FIRST before committing to installing it on the plastic bezel.
