Mini USB port compatibility - 8525, TyTN, MDA Vario II, JasJam Accessories

Hi all,
I have bought an headset adapter from ebay marked as TyTN compatible, however when connected to my Hermes I can hear the sound only on the left speaker; is the mini-USB port different from the TyTN one or is the adapter faulty?
Many thanks!
Mike

here is the link to the adapter:

Thanks

all newer htc devices have the same connector
it's not miniUSB it's EXTUSB which is pretty much
miniUSB and with audio connectors on the other side
so unless that place sell mono audio connectors only
it's defect or you havet pushed the connector all the way in

Thanks Rudegar for your explanation!
Yes I have pushed the connector properly in....I have tried few times and also with using different headsets...
I will ask for a replacement then.
Thank you again, have a nice day.
Mike

It most probably isn't connecting the pins right, yet mini usb works for Ativesync and charging.

Mini-USB audio adapters

Hello,
I just noticed there are many Mini-USB to 3.5 (or 2.5) audio adapters on sale at e-Bay, like this.
All of them seem to be for Motorola phones, though. Anyone has tried on the TyTN?
I seem to remember reading somewhere in GENERAL that they would not. Someone asked HTC and they said it was propietry - but they would have an adapter out soon(ish).
Rich
I can't see why it shouldn't work... it's just £5 so what's the loss if it doesn't...
EDIT: I've bought one today. I'll tell if it works or not....
The port is NOT proprietary. It is a standard mini-USB, and takes standard mini-USB cables.
They tweaked the socket a little bit to go along with their new proprietary headset.
In other words, you can plug in any standard mini-usb cable/accessory, but you can't plug the headset into any standard mini-usb port.
Sorta "dain-bramaged" if you ask me, but since I use a bluetooth headset, it's a non-issue.
Charge and audio simulataneously?
So, how do I both charge the unit and listen to music (wired headphones) at the same time? Does anyone know?
There is an alternative to an adapter. As they say on Blue Peter, here's one I made earlier.......

I asked htc for an adapter
here ist the answer:
Dear Sir
At present HTC does not manufacture, supply or support such a connection and HTC cannot supply such a diagram.

Easy answer: get an iPod!
Hello,
I tried one of those "motorola / razr" headphone adapters on sale at ebay. while the adapter fits nicely it doesn't work. Tytn just doesn't seem to recognize it.
Any thoughts of why it doesn't work and alternatives greatly appreciated.

If you look at the connector the motorola one has 5 pins across the top of the it. If you look at the Tytn on it has 5 pins across the top and 6 across the bottom. In order to be compatible with current chargers the top 5 pins supply the charging and the bottom 6 supply headset and serial connections.
I do not intend to use the "Line out" function of my TyTN often but it DOES lack an audio output. Sometimes I need to connect the device to speakers and etc.
It should be a modified mini USB port that the TyTN has and that must have saved some space over traditional 2.5mm sockets. We all know 2.5 sockets are not common and you need an apaptor to change it to 3.5mm anyway so prolly HTC gave up on the 2.5 and made the USB standard.
I am pretty sure that some accessory will come out.
Does anyone know if the Ebay adaptor cable will work on the TyTN?
Most of the ebay adapters are standard usb mini for use with the razor etc. These will not work. It needs to be an adapter specifically for the Tytn.
thanks! It is really stupid for HTC not to launch any accessories for the TyTN(or other releases).
Like the Atom Exec has factory cradle kit, battery, silicon cases, leather straps and etc. I don't even know where to get an extra battery!
Thought of one of these:

USB extension cable for the TYTN 11 pin connector?

Hi all,
As per subject...
Anyone know if such as cable is available?
I was planning on getting the new 3-1 Adaptor for the TYTN to make use of the 3.5mm jack and charging feature in my car.
The thing is, the cable for this adaptor is very short and cannot be hidden easily when in the car. So, I was thinking of using an extension cable of some sort, so the adaptor could be more easily hidden elsewhere under the centre console.
Many thanks.
USB Stupidity
Hi,
Affraid i didn't find anything either, and wanted to do the same thing.
I resorted to buying the cable from expansis and "Adapting it my self"
The project was fairly simple, and if your happy with a soldering iron and a multimeter you should be fine.
I now have a small connector on my dash that will disapears under the dashboard to a breakout box. All i basicly did was chop off the box that has the two female connectors in it, extend the wire with an old cut up parralel printer cable (multicore and was lying arround) and then terminated in a project box from maplins.
This has two headphone sockets, (audio out stero, and mic in) as well as a USB socket to charge the phone. (the plan was to have the USB socket be usable for data... but that bit went a bit wrong...
Still from the testing i have done, i now have tomtom and WindowsMedia mp3 play back comming through my car stero, and my VarioII reports to be charging. Havn't had a chance to test it on a long drive yet, i think i might still need a beefier 12Volt to USB adapter.
If anyone want more info on what i did, i'd be glad to help.
here are some pics, sorry v bad Q....
I don't seem to see any pics?...
Ooops...
here you go
Seems good to me- as long as it all works ok then its a good job.
Always been interesting in making my own adapters/cables but have never tried. Perhaps I should give it a go!

Any news on that extension cable yet; is it available?
i brought one of these and successfully lengthened it with an old peice of printer cable (only multi core cable i had to hand)
i then used an off the shelf diy project box to hide the junction in.
worked very well, but i have since changed to a bluetooth car kit.
the soldering was a little small and working out which wire was which was a bit of a pain, but all in all only took an hour or so to sort out. probably worth it.
(AFAIK my dad is still using the one i adapted.)
sorry to put old post on top !! but own a dimaond and just buy a touch HD !
i a m looking for this kind of cable !!
If someone have info !!
where to buy for exemple ?
thanks in advance !!
how about extending the power cable? seems like that would be easier.

11 pin usb connector....

Here's a good one for ya, I need to replace the 11 pin connector on my Hermes, I already have a replacement jack thats the standard 5 pin mini usb, I know it won't be fully functional, i just want the darn thing to charge and i know the standard will do that as well as sync w/ a computer. Now my problem is, theres the 11 pads to solder onto on the board, but i don't know which is what. So, if one of you techies knows the answer, GREAT! if no one knows it, if you could by chance just take a photo at about 45 degree angle looking at the back of the usb jack, that would be AWESOME! I've looked through the wiki and cant find any pics of the angle i need.... Thanks for your help guys!!

replacement for the USB connetor
Hello together,
has anyone an idea were to buy the 11pin usb connector which is inside the Hermes?
Greetings Pudl
11 pin socket!
htc do a little adapter that allows charging and a wired headset to be used at once isn't this the answer to all your problems?
1: remove 11 pin socket and solder into your fone! could be the same as the one in your fone!
2: wire it into your stereo and attatch 5 volts to charge it in the car
job done?
i removed the plastic from the plug and fitted it in place of the mini usb plug in my brodit active holder and can charge and use my wired headset at the same time if i need to
i also cut the plastic off a headset and added wires so i could charge and listen at the same time, i removed the headphone speakers and fitted a 3.5mm socket which allows me to plug it into anything with a line in socket. i can even use it as a speakerfone as i fitted the socket after the microphone!!!

Mini USB --> Headphone

¿Do you know if the MiniUsb to headphone connector on the Herald is a standard??
I've been looking for an adapter and I've found some Motorola Headphones that connect through mini USB interfase, but don't know if it's goin' to work on my Herald.
¿Can anyone help me?
Thnx in advance
my razor (motorola) headphones do not work on my herald, however, you can check ebay for a usb to headphone converter for the wing or herald, i have one and it works fine.
this might be a big bump, but this is why it wont work.
HTC devices use something called extUSB, which, evidently, is miniusb but better i guess. You will want to ebay search for that,
on ebay.. search term "wing" choose cellphone accessories>> headsets-corded>> u will get some... most are 1.99 with 4.99 shipping (us dollars)
http://www.daydeal.com/product.php?productid=15366
exactly what u need
daydeal.com -= thye got some good stuff on there lol
This one works well for me:
http://www.seidioonline.com/index.asp?PageAction=VIEWPROD&ProdID=776
I plug it into the usb audio/power adapter that came with my Wing, then plug the car power adapter into the adapter, and a Belkin 3.5 to stereo RCA cord into my Pioneer receiver... Charge my Wing as I drive while MortPlayer entertains me
Slightly old thread, but I figure it's worth clarifying this a little.
The Harold and Wing's connector has extra pins which provide analog input and output from the headset. I don't believe it uses any of the USB side's pins.
The adapter above will work for conventional headphones. I don't know of any adapters for MOT's miniUSB connector headsets (I highly doubt you'll ever see one) or even a full 2.5mm headset (although that shouldn't be hard to fabricate).

What is going on with the cables???

Hey guys, i am hoping i missed something really stupid.
But i just bought a few accessories for my TP2.
I bought an extra charger, and an extra USB connection for my Cradle, and an official HTC car charger
All marked as being for the TP2
But they have a standard Mini-USB connection on them, not the wierd little cut off corner connection that is on the underside of my TP2
wht the hell have i forgotten?
is there an adapter i need to buy or summin?
I am thoroughly confused
Thanks for any help
TM411
No they will work fine, for Data and Power transfer normasl mini-usb cables work fine, you only need the EXT-USB connector (the cut off one) for video and sound transfer (headphones etc.)
Excellent,
Thankyou very much
It' s kind of strange, isn't it. But all mini usb connectors will fit.
