Silent Mode Turning Phone Over - Hero, G2 Touch Q&A, Help & Troubleshooting

All,
I sure I read somewhere that when the phone is turned over it can be set-up to go into automatice silent mode, like the Samsung Omnia does.
Great for meetings and at night.
Is this the case? And if so how do you set it.
Max

Anyone got any ideas on this? If not please just say no.
Max

According to the manual you can just press the volume down key (side of the phone) to mute the ringer.

I didn't have to set anything, it works pretty well and has been working out of the box, I just flip it over and it works.

Do you have the white hero or the gray (orange network one). I got the white one, so wondering if this is a feature of the rom.
Would be really nice to have this, someone said third party app. is there one out there. If not maybe this will become a pet project.

The only thing i have recognized is, that when you get a call and turn the phone over, ringtone is muted.

I didn't try it, if it works out of the box.
But i saw a program on the market for free.
Called FlipSleep.. maybe you can do this with this program.
I haven't try it
ps...
there is also a paid app
called Turn silent or the app Turn Around
and i saw Toggle silent on the market
and Off the Hook
these are free apps

Cheers Mate I take a look at them, happy to pay a small fee for this feature.

Hi i`ve just tried my phone by flipping it over when someone calls and it 100% does silence it. I have no 3rd party apps to do this either..

My bad.
I tried flipping the phone BEFORE someone called. It turns out that when you flip it when someone calls you it goes silent out of the box. This is not the best solution but its somewhat useful.

But thats how it should work
Just press and hold the down volume key to silence it to put it in vibrate only.

Sorry, that's what I meant, when I'm getting a call, I simply flip it over and it goes silent, it doesn't remain silent, it simply just puts that particular call on silent.

Why don't you just push and hold the on/off (off hook) button a short time and then choose "Silent mode" ?

messaging and PIE button disable?

I did search, but didn't find anything...
I'd like to disable the messaging button and PIE button on my phone when I've got an active call. Whenever I'm on a call, and hold the phone to my ear, I end up pressing one or both buttons. It gets really tiring having to constantly close the messaging app, or PIE every time I get off the phone.
So, is there a way to disable those buttons with a call active?
Thanks

No, you're not the only one!

Happens to me too - but usually it only happens when I jam the phone between my head and shoulder (hands-free mode )....don't think it's related to ear size....
Probably the only solution is to stick a BT headset in your ear and always answer the phone with that.....or press 'OK' a couple of times when you end the call!
Not much help, but at least now you know you're not alone
Mark.
True...
And, I think it might only happen when I have the phone between my ear and shoulder too... which ends up being like all the time.
Problem with the bluetooth thing, is two fold
1) I've not found one that is loud enough
2) I don't like wearing it all the time, so put it down... when the phone rings, and I pickup the bluetooth, and try to answer with it, the phone has stopped ringing by the time the phone and earpiece are paired...

...ain't that just the way
One thing I've just thought of, though I've not tried it yet....
If your phone is "locked" (from the today screen plugin) and a call comes in, you get the popup to show who's calling etc. - do the messaging and PIE buttons still operate in those circumstances? If not, you might just have found yourself a solution
Mark.
<locks phone>
Dunno, but not a bad thought.
I'll give that a shot, thanks

[Q]Alarm application turns on smartphone?

I am noob in smartphones.
I installed GingerDX in XPERIA X8 ;-)
I can not find an alarm application that turns on the mobile!!
For years i' ve set the alarm, turn off the phone and went to bed.
In the morning the phone turned on and alarmed.
Is there any application that can do that?
Thanks in advanced.
Smartphones are not able to do that because their system (in this case "Android") is like a real system of a computer. I don't think computers do that, do they? There is nothing that can make your phone boot up to ring the alarm.
Instead of shutting down your phone, why don't you turn on airplane mode instead? It's almost like turning off the phone.
That's bad. I hope somewhere in the future this change. And, by the way, there is any app that can auto turn off the app?

Crap!
Well your idea for airplane mode is not bad, although is not the same with the off-situation.
Thanks anyway.

Actually they do that, just a little yes in the BIOS and it works well, about an Android phone doing that, i think its possible, haven't had the need for it yet, but just for testing purposes will see few things and report back

Computers can do this so easy!
Really? They can? Oh, then I'm sorry about the misinformation, but still, Android can't boot to ring the alarm.
My smartphone wakes up automatically!
I'am apologize to bring this old topic on top, but I've also search on the internet which android smartphone would wake up when completly off for an alarm and there is not much information, so i wanted to put my experiences.
Because I didn't find any Information about that on the Internet, i've try myself in a Shop with demo phone. Results, the HTC One series and ALCATEL One Touch Series DOES wake up when turned off. Samsung phones had bad on that point. Of course i didn't try every smartphones...
I've bought an ALCATEL One Touch Mini 6012X... Alarm wake up the phone (maybe into a special mode just for alarm but looks very similar). There is also an option to turn off and turn ON the phone every day at a specific time.
So i hope, poeple would understand that smartphone could automatically wake up...
Bye

Accepting phone calls

On jellybean
When I receive a phone call while the phone is off I get the option to either "Decline" or "Accept". I accept by pulling the green "Accept" button down and into the half circle. Immediately the phone turns off again, requiring me to push the power button again to turn it on. Although this is something that isn't terribly hard to do, it is annoying as many times I touch the speaker button. I would be nice if when I accept the call the phone would stay awake so I can just touch speaker.
I went through the settings but could not find anything. Any idea's?

Vibrate

This seems an overly obvious question. Does the watch have vibrate? I just got it two days ago, but no setting of vibrate anywhere seems to make it shake. I would think I'd have run across someone else saying something if it lacked the ability...
So, kinda wondering if mine is broken or if I totally missed that it isn't there.
Thanks

Mine vibrated yesterday and now it wont vibrate. If you scroll down from the top on your home screen, click the icon in the top right corner, that should bring up your wifi, airplane mode, gps, battery, etc icons. If you scroll down to audio profiles, there is one called meeting that has a picture of a phone vibrating. That should make calls and messages vibrate your phone. You can also manually turn them on because if you go to settings/device/audio profile/settings for general where you can select vibrate plus ring, and if you scroll down there is an option for vibrate on touch. Even though I have both these settings checked, and they used to work, they are no longer working. I tried a factory reset, and that didn't fix it. Now, when I power on my watch, I get a message that says headphones disconnected. It seemed to stop working after I started getting this message, not sure if that is normal or if it has anything to do with it. I will let you know if I figure out a way to get mine vibrating again, but for now it looks like mine could be broken. Can anyone else chime in on this if this has happened to you?

It does vibrate. But very few things use that function it seems. I was thinking about setting up a tasker script to vibrate on any notification.

Anyone have any ideas on how to get mine vibrating again? I've done the backup and restore option, is that how you do a proper factory reset, or is there another way I can try to get this thing to start working again?
update: Just flashed 1900_20140120 firmware using the excellent guide on here, and still no vibrate

Mine started working. Not sure why; I tried to reset to factory and despite following the directions and watching Loki's video, i managed to lock the watch up. Popped the battery, put it back together, wiped the device. Now it vibrates and that is good. Just wish i knew what I had did that fixed it.
Thanks all!
Jd
Mine does not vibrate either, never did.
I tried with the stock firmware, Loki's firmware, stock with enhanced security... no luck...
Thoughts?

Mine started vibrating again. I went to take the battery out, but couldn't get the screws off, so I gave up, when I rebooted, all the sudden vibrate worked again. Not sure if it was powering it on and off a few times, or shaking it around, try taking the battery out and putting it back in if you can, if not, just try turning it off and then on and maybe lightly shaking it around
Well,
It looks like a bad electrical contact, I've downloaded an app called "vibrater" that does just what it says, and it won't start the vibrator until I lightly tap the watch on it's side while the app is turning the vibrator on.
But it does not stick. I guess I will have to return the watch to have it fixed...
Until tonight, I thought the TrueSmart just didn't have a vibrator...
Vibration doesnt work
Hey, just received my Omate Trusmart! (Kickstarter edition)
Overall I am extremely happy with the watch, but there are a couple of major problems:
1. The vibration doesn't work, I have tried rebooting, factory restore etc but nothing seems to work. Does anyone know a fix to this or is it a hardware problem?
2. My screen has very faint dark spots in the center. Looks like a manufacturing defect.
Is it possible to return the watch to get a replacement? I havent opened the back cover yet.
Thanks.

Hold to ear not working

I am finding that when I hold my phone to the air when it's on speaker, it does not cut off of speaker to ear. This used to work that has stopped.
I can't say if the other hold the ear functions are working, as I have early tried them.
Anyone else finding this to be an issue, or have a suggestion for fix?

I always need to re-read my posts, and fail to do so.
Of course, it shoud be ear, not eat.
I'll try to change the title, if it'll let me.
It's still not working, by the way...
This may be something you've tried, but have you made sure the function somehow hasn't been turned off?
Under 'Settings' - 'Smart Assistance' - 'Motion Control' there's the menu 'Raise to Ear'. Make sure that 'Smart Speaker' is turned on
Hope this resolves your issue.

I appreciate the suggestion. Did check that first thign, and just again.
There is a new wrinkle...since posting, I have hooked up my smart watch. Now on the phone screen, I can't just click the speaker on/off. It brings up a list, with 3 things on the list, Speaker, Ear, and Watch.
Seems to me maybe it may have to do with the proximity sensor.
By the way, Make Calls by holding to the ear does not work either.
