More cool stuff to try! - G1 Accessories

Possible new stuff for our devices:
Car Charger FM Transmitter for O2/HTC/Dopod with LCD Display
http://www.dealextreme.com/details.dx/sku.27058
___not sure if this will work with our android devices, some of the other HTC stuff doesn't, but if it does it'd be nice.
SD to MicroSD/TransFlash Card Converter Module
http://www.dealextreme.com/details.dx/sku.27001
___might take some riggin' but sounds like it has possibilities!
I don't have the capability to try either of these (long story, involves an ex and online purchases ), but I'm sure someone either has or is willing to give it a shot!

Very interesting...
With this oversized battery cover for my extended battery I could see a useful hiding spot for that micro SD to SD converter...
Still not brave enough to disassemble my $300 phone.

I do like the idea of the SD adapter and extended battery and cover. I doubt you'd have to disassemble the phone to pull it off, just shave off a bit of the extended battery cover and route the ribbon cable into it and slap it back together.
Don't know if the dream would support the transfer speeds, but a 150x full size SD would be sweet.
FM transmitter would be nice, except all the frequencies are used up in this area.

Would there be any benefits from having a regular SD card though? I thought that a class 6 microsdhc is just as fast? They're about the same price, too.

That is the question. Class 6 is the highest rating, which is supposed to denote a minimum of 6MB/sec write speed. A Wikipedia article says class 6 = 40x.
Some full size cards claim to be faster than that. Kingston manufactures one that claims 120x speed. I wouldn't expect triple speed, but it would be fun to test.
This is all assuming that the adapter will work, and that the i/o in the phone can keep up.

With a full size SD card you could use a eyefi card.

MicroSD not fully fitting into case

Hi,
my microSd card doesn't slide fully into the case. The original plastic card is 2 mm short and has been fine tuned that it is cut at the end, so it does not stuck out.
So with card inserted i feel it with my left hand it looks out of the device.
Anybody that has a card that fits perfect?

mine used to until I sanded down the edge , so now it doesnt.
Its normal

mine seems even with the volume rocker, doesn't stick out passed that.
May be normal, but it is bunk. You can hit the card and I fear losing it as it sticks out a lot IMHO. Bad design.
i just pulled mine out of the TF101 that fitted perfect there and now i also fear loosing it etc.
Just crap, there is no excuse for me. Especially if it where somewhere else where you do not hold it it would not be so boring.
My microSD sticks out of the slot too. Didn't do that on the original TF101 but with this one it's too easy to hit it by accident and have it fall out. I did that yesterday and happened to see that it was not latched in, ready to fall out. I compared the card with the blank insert and the blank is quite a bit smaller. You can sand down the excess I guess?
BUT in sanding warranty on the card is gone and I would think you would have to worry about heat build up damaging it in some way unless you went slow - don't use a dremel Plus, be mindful of the dust and introducing that into the cards metallic slots.
Nevertheless, sanding is a hack and not sure why they did not recess the slot more to be flush as it is totally not flush. Not even close.
That annoys me and also the sd card on the bottom taskbar annoys me. I wish I could remove that icon.

This is the kind of stuff that unlocked bootloaders and root can do. Someone can tweak the files or hack a fix to remove that notification - just like they have already made a hack to remove the permanent google search on the home screen seen now in ICS. It also annoys me as it is not a logical place for it. And hell, we already know we have a card it... we can feel the damn thing sticking up
Okay listen to me this is the standard micro sd card size from the sd association
microSD, microSDHC, microSDXC
15 mm × 11 mm × 1.0 mm
Now look here on pages 13-14 the SD specifications gives them a maximum minimum and normal sizes for every single dimension on a card
http://www.google.com/url?sa=t&rct=..._uyKAg&usg=AFQjCNHejdZXdsfJRJPcT4PEWKJqDTm2PA
so they are almost allowed a whole mm don't blame ASUS for this they designed the port for the shortest length so you can pull the card out

When I get my dock on Monday and add my second sd card in it will it let me know that I have 2 installed?
can someone post a picture of how much a micro SD sticks out? why would they choose to design it like this?
then again, these are the geniuses who wrapped an all metal back over GPS and WiFi radios with no RF window

Yes, you will have two notification icons on the bottom right, and if you plug in a USB thumb drive or portable drive you will get a third. The full size SD card also sticks out of its slot further then on the OG Transformer.

Full size SD card adapter for EVO 3D

Hi, as you can probably tell I'm new here but definately not in experienced in the tech area. Anyway I'll skip straight to the problem at Hand.
I have been googling hard away the last couple of days for anything along the lines of 'full size SD card adapter for smartphone' etc.
I sadly haven't located one or even seen one, a forum I visited had 1 person in possession of a micro usb powered full size SD card adapter, but was connected to a tablet so I have no idea if it would work on a 3D. No links on where he purchased it either:/
Does anyone here have a link as to where I might be able to buy one of these adapters, or somewhat further information about the actual chances of the 3D being able to support one?
The main reason I need one is because my DSLR camera uses full size SD cards and I needed a way to transfer images to my phone, touch them up with apps and have them ready to share as I'm shooting.
Thanks in advance for any answers.

There is a post somewhere if a guy who added a full sized SD card adapter to his EVO 3d. Looks pretty good and he explains how to do it.

Almost all MicroSD aftermarket cards come with a SD adaptor such as the one below:
http://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.aspx?Item=N82E16820231509
I bought one from dealextreme for about $7 several years ago. The problem is fitting the adapter in the phone. But for your use, perhaps you can just use it temporarily without the back cover on the phone.
The adapter has a small ribbon cable that connects to a micro SD plastic piece. The ribbon cable extends out to a larger plastic slot for a full size SD card.
The problem with our phone is that the microsd card sits flush with the battery. I'm not sure if there's enough room to fit the ribbon cable between the microsd side of the adapter - and the battery. If I can find my adapter - I'll check tonight.
The easy way to make this "permanent" would be to use an extended battery back cover, without actually using an extended battery. Otherwise, there's definitely not enough room behind the stock cover for the adapter.
Thanks for the replies but I don't want to have to buy another micro SD to put in a full SD in my camera. I just need a USB card adapter like the 7 in 1 types you see at most stores but one compatible for an evo:/

With Olympus Rom and Chad Goodman's Anthrax kernel it is possible to enable USB Host, which as is sounds will allow you to connect camera straight to evo (with USB OTG Cable). At this time it is really hit or miss whether it will work on your phone, some people have got it to work and others not...That is where I am at the moment. Chad is in the process of making it work on all evo 3Ds as long as they are running a rom with usb host mode enabled (Olympus is the only rom at the moment with this feature I believe). Chad has been able to use the function on his phone and had sucess with usb keyboard and usb external drive.
----or----- Try this guys method..

That is NOT what I was suggesting, I was suggesting that this might work:
http://www.dealextreme.com/p/sd-to-microsd-transflash-card-converter-module-27001
But I don't think it will fit safely into the EVO3D's microSD slot. The plastic piece which connects to the normal microSD slot is longer than a regular microSD - and will crash against the battery, unless it was bent. I was not willing to try to bend my adapter for this check, sorry.
I think your best bet is to root your phone to one of the ROM's that handles USB host as suggested above.

Well I happen to own the GSM model with which the SD card slot would work with this no problem as it is on the side facing outwards without any battery interfering with it. I might look into that at the later.
A further question about gaining USB host through rooting does anyone know how to root a GSM model with HBOOT 1.49.0013 on Vodafone Au? If not then I will have to settle for the adapter displayed above which wouldn't bother other than the fact is that I want to transfer photos from the Full SD to the Micro SD not to internal memory as that could take a while as the files arn't particularly small:/
If this is sounding strange its like the adapter Apple made for the iPad called 'camera connectivity kit' etc. This is a small inch by inch brick that simply plugs into the charging port and accepts SD cards for transfer to the internal memory.

microSDHC with adapter / normal SDHC .. performance loss with adapter?

Hey guys..
I am thinking about buying a new SDcard.
I have thought about buying a microSDHC with adapter to be able to use it in other devices (smartphones) too. Will I use performance because of the adapter? Anyone has tried this?
Thanks in advance
edit: I am thinking about buying one of these sandisk ultras with 32 gb
I do not think the adapter has any impact on the card's internal mechanism from where the performance comes. It would be like an external SSD having different performances depending on the size of the USB cable, which doesn't make sense. Unless the adapter is of very poor quality...
The thing that might affect performance is the device that is using the card (device's card-reader quality, device's performance).
So i am deciding now between an sandisk ultra or an sandisk ultra extreme. Will the Prime be able to handle the improved reading/writing speeds of the "extreme" one? People seem to need usb3.0 card readers to fully handle the speeds, so i am a bit in doubt, that the prime can use it?

Otg External storage

Hi i am doing a German exchange in April what means I will be sitting on a bus for over (5 hours not including plane) .
I have bought an Anker external battery to run external hard drives but I need help to know which one to put films on to play over the otg and what is the biggest storage space the otg can support. I cannot decide if a memory stick, Hard drive or and ssd would be better.
All help would be greatly appreciated.
i'm not 100% sure if there is a limit to the size, but...
the limit is for sure the amount of power the external device needs
so you can forget about an hdd or ssd if it's not powered separately
i'd go with a usb stick
one guy here at the forum suggest to me to use SanDisk 8GB as that is what worked for him
i gambled a bit and went for 16GB and it works like a charm
so if you want to raise the stakes go for the 32GB and report back if it works
btw. it's SanDisk Cruzer Blade
you can get it on ebay if not your local store
good luck and have a safe trip

I got a 320gb working but i had to do ntfs app, i was more wondering which one would be the best to be travelled and will still work after a long bumpy journey, (ssd, Hdd,Memory stick)
Any one of them will work...bumpy journey or not. Still, i would say a stick is the easiest one to travel with... taking size and weigth in the equation
I has connect otg with harddisk docking support 2TB
SSD and thumb drive are your best bets for bumpy rides though they all take a pretty good beating

200gb SD Card..... To sell or not to sell....

For those of us that have been lucky enough to get the deal with the 200gb SD card, are you keeping it or selling it? It's worth quite a bit. With the cloud storage these days I don't see the point in keeping it... The phone has 64gb by itself....

Wouldn't get your hopes up too high. That is a Sandisk Ultra. I HIGHLY doubt Sandisk is giving LG the same version of the card. On the promo site, it shows a picture and that card clearly says For LG Mobile - my guess is its performance will not match the Ultra series... but it will still probably fetch a decent price if you wanted to sell it.
Sandisk I would sell. I'm using Samsung Pro SD card, very fast no issues. it's "only" 64GB but I got it for $45 on Amazon. Actually I got it for free....long story. The High on Android guy on YouTube mentioned that Sandisk SD cards fail at a higher rate than the Samsung SD cards. Sandisk must have looser quality controls on the production line.
I plan to sell the Sandisk card and extra battery too. Just buy a spare battery without the charging cradle and fast charge the battery at work with the battery in the phone until Caseology or Anker make a V10 2 battery pack bundle with wall charger for like $30-40. Can't be too long a wait.. Caseology and Anker are probably working 24/7 around the clock to manufacture as there will be a ton of people buying this phone just for the removable battery now that it's really the last phone to offer this at the premium phone level. And at this point in the year 2015 there is no reason why 3,000 mAh batteries should be more than $10. It's old tech now. My Note 3 does not have fast charging and the aftermarket batteries charge to 100% in the phone via the USB 3.0 plug in under an hour.
sell? no way. im giddy having that much storage. I have Terrabytes of music, movies, and tv.

I too have a Samsung 64 GB Pro SD card. Unless the 200 GB Sandisk is noticeably slower, I'll probably use it instead and keep the Samsung as a backup. Although I never keep enough content on my phone to get anywhere near using the 128 GB combined storage I have right now... so maybe I should just sell the Sandisk card, lol.
I honestly don't know what to do with the SD card myself. I haven't made a dent in the 64GB card I have in here now.
If you have no use, sell them while they are worth something. Won't be long before they go down in value.
