Screen protector for the Hero - Hero, G2 Touch Accessories

Hi,
My new Hero phone is the first one I've owned that has a capacitive screen, and I'm wondering if there's a preferred screen protector. They're quite expensive so I don't want to buy the wrong one.
Thanks in advance.

yup, HTC do a specific one themselves, which would make the most sense. I'm not going to bother with mine, though.
http://www.htcaccessorystore.com/uk/p_htc_item.aspx?i=182319

if by chance you're in the UK, I'll sell you mine a bit cheaper; got one of those packs free with the handset; still sealed.

PM me if iinterested; apols if not.

Hi Cdmackay,
Thanks for your reply. I am in the UK, but is there any particular reason why you're not going to use a screen protector on your Hero? Does it reduce sensitivity, for instance? How much do you want for your protectors?
Cheers.

Pick the Invisible Shield.
www.zagg.com - Best screen protectors.
Myself, I wont use a screen protector since its always completely alone in my pocket Ill just get a cover/case for it

Personally, I find Zagg screens tricky to apply - the spray is so clumsy and risky to use! There is company that make screen protectors for Apple products that use static to apply the protectors, these are very easy to apply and look invisible when applied. Only problem being that they only make protectors for Apple products...

I don't know, to be honest; I figured it might. I'd rather just have mine in a case.

I don't find Zagg Invis. Shields hard to apply at all - but the one thing I find with them is that they are too "tacky" and less smooth when you try to slide your finger/thumb against it. I prefer the slickness of the glass screen so when I had my iPhone 3G I used PowerSupport Crystal Clear screen films which felt pretty much the same as not having anything on the screen. I hope that some third-party manufacturers start making screen protectors similar to these for the Hero.

My vote goes for the Martin fields screen protector.
Very smooth like glass feel, great size and fit and comes with a protector for the camera lens. I don't notice any reduction in touch responsiveness.
I also had the official HTC one but didn't like them cos I found that it got very fine scratches and the fit was a fraction too big - would keep lifting at the edges cos of the case I use.
Go for the Martin fields. Expensive but worth it in my. Opinion

I have, as with all my previous devices, ordered from the excellent netimes website these http://www.netimes.com/shop/clear-screen-protector-for-htc-hero-x-10-p-2204.html?cPath=80_680 Great price, easy fit screen protectors

haha nice to know. I was actually going to order a Martin Fields one and test that out - I had a Martin Fields for my old old Diamond and it was quite good; I might have to order one of the ones you suggested too, and compare the two. But for now I'll stick to my Clear Protect until it starts to wear out.

Screenprotector that fits like the original one but had the quality of Brando/boxwave

Is there a screen protector that fits like the original one but had the quality of Brando/boxwave. I don't care about the camera hole.
I've read on this forum that the Brando is like 1-2mm too short, and the boxwave leaves a little bit space at all sides..
Any input/photo's are welcome!

Thanks for the input, where can i find some photo's of the Martin Fields applied on the Touch HD? I don't like small open area's unprotected like with the Brando.. It looks so cheap.
I have always swore by the Exim SPUC range of protectors, both for my old Touch Cruise and my new HD.
It's available from PDA-NOW from here : http://cgi.ebay.co.uk/ws/eBayISAPI.dll?ViewItem&item=270342744301
It fits perfectly (covers lower 4 buttons), with no cut out for the Camera - only for the speaker.

Thanks for the reply I only want to know: does the screenprotector fit as good at the sides, does it fit the screen as the original, or is it a little bit smaller then the original(the original fits perfect but is bad quality). The brando/boxwave are too small.. that's why I started this topic. Some pictures would be great!
I think you can't go wrong with either EXiM or Martin Fields they're both high quality screen protectors! Over the years I have always used Martin Fields for my devices but this time wil give EXiM a go for my touch hd when I get it

14. 2. Thank you for your payment. eBay item #310121084470 EXiM SPUC...
Think Ill have to wait till next week for it to come. Cant wait since here in Croatia you cant buy any of the accessories for HTC Except the mobile phone! Stupid.
Here it goes as promised! The pictures are taken with my HD so after I install the protector I wont be able to take a macro picture of it installed. You will have to wait few more days till I get my hand on digital camera.
EDIT: The EXIM SPUC protector fits like original!!! There is no more than 0.5mm uncovered space left on borders.. the only flaw is the oval cut that is placed on the earphone it doesnt fit so good so there is some air around the corners. But overall from 1-10 my grade is 9! My recommendations.
Brando every time
From now on it's Brando for me - fits perfect EXTREMELY good Quality. Had it on for a month now and not a mark. Tried Martin Fields and it was good....for about a day when it got scratched up pretty bad. tried the others too. HTC is good but almost impossible to fit.

The cut for speaker should be a little bigger but no big deal..

Screen protector

When I got my Hero from Devicewire, it came with HTC branded screen protectors. Is anyone using these and are they worth it?
I never used one on my Diamond and it got a few scratches, but nothing that out of the ordinary given I had it for a year.

Haha, I know exactly what you mean.
Kinda daft that these don't come with one, first HTC I've had that didnt.
I'm sure there will be some cheap ones on ebay soon
Just ordered the SP P260 screen protectors (Official HTC Hero)
Twin pack, I'm probably going to mess up the first one on application aswell
Can someone give a link? I'd love a decent quality anti glare one tbh.
**EDIT** Well, I found the 'official HTC twin pack' on eBay for £7.95.
fitted the HTC one
omg.....i fitted it .....1st time no problems
and i have no air bubbles
if you want the other one....pm me....ill take £5 (paypal) and ill post it to you
as they cost me £11.50 inc. p+p for the two
hmm, there are loads of really cheap protectors on ebay, ~£2
I'm uncertain if its any good though....
Link to items on ebay
I got 2 universal ZAGG InvisibleShield from "Phones 4U" for just 8£. Cropped the protector to the right size, applied it to the screen and BAM! Now my Hero is virtually unscratchable
Seriously, don't buy anything else. The ZAGG protectors are the best I've seen in a long time.
What about the oleophobic coating?
The screen is supposed to have this super amazing coat that wipes smudges really easily, applying a screen protector doesn't defeat the purpose of having such a coating?
Can anyone post a picture of their Hero with the screen protector just to see how nice it is?
The screen protector defeats the purpose of the coating for sure - it may protect it, but it gets covered in prints!
Screen protectors
LOL not to upset to many peeps but got a set from play.com for £4.99 inc free del arrived yesturday and very easy to apply. Think they are good theng extra protection i now screen is coated but would not wat to test it with keys in pocket of some thing abrisive like the floor lol

Yup, that's what I got. Easy to apply, one spare...
I bought the pack of SP 260 screen protectors and I am undecided as to whether I should use them. What is the point of having a specially coated screen if you cannot reap the benefits? Technology surely exists to be enjoyed and not hindered through over-pampering? Furthermore, unless the protectors are anti-glare, they may actually introduce problems. Having said all that, I totally get why protecting an expensive product like the Hero may supercede utilising a screen that is fingerprint resistant.
It's a tricky one but I think I may just throw caution to the wind and leave the phone as it is.
I have, as with all my previous devices, ordered from the excellent netimes website these http://www.netimes.com/shop/clear-screen-protector-for-htc-hero-x-10-p-2201.html Great price, easy fit screen protectors

Well there are so many and it would be impossible to say this or that is the best because everyone using that particular brand etc will be biased
If you want hands down a great product then Exim has always been a leader and Ebay is the place to get it if you dont want to pay ridiculous amounts.

ive been looking around also, theres a lot of screen protectors, lets part that they are all good protectors and anti-scratch, what i am looking for is for a screen protector that is smooth for finger scrolling,, what good does it do to have a phone that doesnt scratch if its uncomfortable for dragging around ur finger over the screen

I have been using screen protector since p800 days. Had tired and tested many including the famous brands like claverique and so on.
THe best one i found is from martin field from overlayplus.com
I had it on my p910i for around 3 years and not a single scratch. I have used it ever since on my htc handsets and iphone too and i will never go to any other brand.
Cons. they are much more expensive and they ship from singapore and so takes more than a week for delivery. The kit has only one screen protector and so make sure u apply them correctly.

Custom g tablet XOskin screen protector

Hey all,
I am in touch with the people at xoskins.com for a screen skin for the g tablet. I have sent dimensions and photos and they are in progress on the design. This would not be a dry application protector that has air bubbles and peels up around the edges. Their protectors go on extremely well. I have put them on several devices with a lot of success. One has been on my phone for a year and it still is all the way down around the edges.
When I get mine, I can post some shots of it. Hopefully we can generate some interest so they can make more.
How much did you pay ?
Nothing yet, but I am guessing it will be $20. I also just saw the skinomi one for $15 shipped in the US. They look to be pretty much identical. The packaging and spray are almost the same as the xoskins I have gotten before (just different graphics).
This screen protector skin is now available on xoskins.com for $18 using the code tabletprotector20. as soon as mine comes in i can post some pictures. like i said before, these have worked great for me in the past on othe devices. btw, I'm not getting kickbacks or anyhing, just spreadin the word.

Just wanted to update that I got my xoskin. It is very much like the skinomi tech skin. I can hardly tell the difference. To me, I like the xoskin a bit better, I like the screen feel of it a bit better. Also, you can still get it for $20 shipped with the code from above.

Which is 30% more than the skinomi , not sure if the difference in the texture would warrant the difference in price.
That said, its good to know there are other comparable alternatives there (once skinomi jacks up the price again or terminate their coupon).

Screen Protector-Don't buy the military grade
I purchased some of these "military" grade screen protectors for the Evo 4g, but they really sucked to put on. So I searched on Amazon and ordered a matte one made by Aurum.
It's made from Japanese PET, which "supposedly" is the best, Got it a few days ago and it fit perfectly, more importantly there is no loss in sensation or sliding ability as it says. So I am happy, now I need a TPU case for it.

I see this is the same picture posted on amazon. How does it fit ? I can't see any cutting for the camera/sensors, do it cover the touch area or the whole bezel ?
Thanks,
No cutout for the camera/sensor, I put on the matte and it makes no difference that I can see. The Aurum screen protector on Amazon covers the ENTIRE bezel, so all the glass is covered (has the rounded edges for a tight tight fit). I attached a photo, don't judge me by my poor installation . All I care about is the smooth scrolling, and this achieves it, in my opinion.
I just saw they have a free shipping deal when you buy two.
Interested in drag component...
of the aforementioned protectors. The XOskin, Aurum, and Skinomi. Almost set to get a skinomi, but one complaint by some people is finger drag. How about the protectors the 2 of you have got? I'd almost forgo a protector if it's not going to give me a smooth surface. Thanks..
at least the XOskin HAVE the holes for the camera ans led flash and Aurum and Skinomi doesn't.

I was unaware that there was a flash for the G-Tablet, could you let me know where that might be .
As for the question above I can attest to the Aurum screen protector having very little finger drag(thats why I like it) and as to not having camera holes, well the 1.3 megapixel camera is not exactly great(I never use it). I use mine to browse the web, so finger drag is my main concern.
Aurum has a crystal clear one I think.....this will solve any camera issues. The link is below

Can you post a pic of the xo skins fit? Is it good? I have used their skins before and they are by far the best. Just wanna make sure it will fit right.
I got the xo skins gtab screen protector There are cutouts for the camera and light sensor.. The install took me two minutes. Steamed up my bathroom after reading some install reviews to drop the dust out of the air. Ill post a full review on here in a bit.
New Protector with Stylus
I have purchased another screen protector for my G-Tab, this time the camera cutout was present, as before it was simple to apply, peel and stick type of application. I chose to go with the clear one this time, because I began to use a stylus with my tablets which I LOVE. The protector is simply a safety measure to prevent any accidental scratches.

[UK] Found a really good Automatic Adsorption Tempered glass

I have just bought this tempered glass and I think this is so much better than the official one and it is a bit cheaper and has full adhesive around the screen.

I'll quote from the Amazon page..... "has complete adhesive throughout the protector rather than the edges".
It is different to others.
This item does not ship to the Netherlands.
i'll be damned

from my point of view it would make no sense to produce the glass with ugly black bezels if they would have completely invisible adhesive for application on the screen.
I've brought this one.
It's got huge bezels (the same as the official). If you can live with that great.
It lasted 5 minutes on mine before losing part of my screen annoyed me too much.

Out of interest are you using a screen protector at all? If so which one? I've tried the Orzly (rainbow effect and dust) and also the Nilkin (full adhesion but big gaps) trying to find a happy medium really. I'm currently without a protector but using the Otterbox casing.

I'm not sure how you applied yours but I'm now into 3+ weeks with a Orzly and have had neither of the issues you mention, never did. I couldn't be more please with the Orzly protector especially at that price and still having a second one when the first eventually degrades. I used the application recommendation posted in that protectors thread. I personally could not tolerate a protector that reduced the visible screen for what ever reason.
Update: A spec of dust has gotten under the cover. Too bad as I still like the protector for its feel and protection but the spec of dust is dam annoying.
And now how to order it to Poland?

Try to find a company in Poland that provides "virtual" address in UK and after that delivers the goods in your country. I receive goods from UK in Bulgaria for only 1 EUR (when under 1 kg.) - it is very convinient.

I'm back on orzly.
Best of a bad bunch
This doesn't look very case compatible. Is anyone able to comment on this?
Very good tempered glass!
Sorry my english isnt perfect. Mine is come yesterday. I used a lot of others, but they where all disappointing in some way. (black turned into dark grey because of bad transparency and "sharp" edges) This one isnt case friendly I guess, because it protects the complete front.
+ true black colors
+ 2.5D (is quite cool for edge-smoothness)
+ easy to clean
- it isnt the thinnest glass
- makes bigger edges left/right
When you buy it make sure you buy the right one. It must be "Automatic Adsorption" version. They also sell another product where you get 2pcs of screen protectors (without automatic adsorption!).

Any chance to try it with a bumber ? Sounds like a better option than the orzly tgsp but I'll need my bumper to work with it

I've got an original sandstone backcase and I think it will fit. Mine don't fit totally because it gets stretched by the skin I have on my oneplus. :/ But otherwise I think it will fit probably
Tip : amazon will give you the money back if you have problems with it and you mustn't send it back.
I just installed this tgsp and it's amazing. Very happy with it.
It's full glue. The main drawback is the bezel. But I'm used to it.
PS: it fits perfectly with the sandstone case from OnePlus

When you say the main drawback is the bezel, do you mean the bezel cuts off a small portion of the screen at the edges? Like if you were to boot into the bootloader, you can immediately see if the text is being cut off at the sides.

Yes it's exactly what I wanted to say. But you get used to it.
