Default Lock Screen and Spare Charger - Hero, G2 Touch Q&A, Help & Troubleshooting

Hi All,
Just ditched my Nokia N96 after being a Nokia user for over 10yrs. The Hero is a breath of fresh air! So ... a couple of questions ...
Firstly, anyone have any idea how to set the lock screen wallpaper back to its default image? I have set it to a photo, but cant seem to choose anything other than what is in an album on the phone.
Secondly, I'm having a really hard time sourcing a spare mains charger and a car charger. All anyone seems to have, both on eBay and from Googling, is Mini-USB connectors, even though they're advertised as for the Hero. Mine is definately not mini-USB. Anyone have any clue as to where I can get a proper one please?
Cheers ... T

Not sure about the first question as I've never bothered to change the default wallpaper, but as for your second question the charger is a mini-usb and you should be able to find it in any decent phone shop

NOT Mini-USB
Mine is most definately NOT Mini-USB.
It is rectangular with just one corner angled.

To get the default lockscreen wallpaper try changing the 'scene' of the phone. So from the homescreen, press menu ---> scenes and then choose one of the scenes. You'll lose how you have laid out the homescreen but the lockscreen image should revert to one of the standard HTC ones. Different scenes have different lockscreen wallpapers images I belive so try them all out.
The socket on your Hero is compatable with any mini-usb plug, charger, cable etc. Trust me I know they are different shapes but they fit and work just fine. I have an old Nokia usb to mini usb transer cable that i'm using at work to charge/transfer data while at work using my work pc.

it is defenitely mini-usb, just try it, before posting such a ****

Nice language
OK, so my knowledge of Mini-USB connectors is evidentally lacking, but all of the mini-usb connectors that i have seen have not been the same shape as the Hero requires. I shall go on a hunt to the shops this lunchtime.
Felikz - If using bad aggressive language is standard on this forum, then I'm evidentally in the wrong place. Either that, or you are.
Thankyou to all of you who have posted proper replies

Mate this WILL fit your Hero, as I said I know it's a different shape to the socket on the Hero but this is a standard mini usb and will fit.

should have tried it shouldnt I?!
Yep, standard mini-usb does indeed fit into the slot on the Hero, despite being a different shape from the hole.
Superb. Thanks people.

[Q] Docking HD2 With Android with just a MicroUSB and a Magnet?

Is it possible to use a magnet along with the MicroUSB cable to "Dock" the HD2 Phone in Android?
If I understand correctly, some phones require a magnet to go into docking mode.
There are some people that made a DIY dock like this Droid owner here for example:

}

The magnet will touch a small part of the part somewhere on the back of the phone, using either positive or negative magnetism.
The phone will dock in either desk or car mode depending on the magnetism.
DIY HD2 Docks are common like donkeypunch85
I found here:
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=758884&highlight=dock
I have a car dock myself similar to this one here
http://www.amazon.com/GTMax-Windshi..._17?ie=UTF8&s=wireless&qid=1259963538&sr=8-17
If I can't do my DIY dock then I guess I can just buy one like these:
http://www.mobilefun.co.uk/blog/2010/01/guide-to-htc-hd2-docks-and-desk-stands/
I have searched for an answer for my question in the forums and the wiki, but nothing relevant.

I have a Energy Rom and Android on my SD card.
Basically the "Dock" Menu in Android Settings Menu got me all curious.

I know that I can also just use the Car Home app in Android, but I want
to know if I can use this method to do it Automatically.
Thanks.
Update:
I found a great app called Dock Simulator that lets me manipulate some dock options. This helps me out and anyone else interested.

Still haven't found out if a magnet can trigger the dock mode in HD2.
Tried using a refrigerator magnet moving it along the back when I connect the cable but no dice. Maybe magnets wont trigger the HD2 hmmm :/

[Q] Thunderbolt USB port

Does anyone have a good picture of the microUSB port on the Thunderbolt? I have been searching but haven't found a clear picture. I am trying to figure out if I need a right angled microUSB cable or a left angled microUSB cable. I would like the microUSB cable to go down. Thanks in advanced. I can't wait for the release of this phone, I've already bought a few goodies for it!
theres a nice 360 view on bestbuy that might help you.

EDIT: new member had to take the http out sorry
Thanks for that link! If I'm looking at everything right, it would seem a left angled microUSB is the way to go.

no problem glad i could help. yea if you want the cord to go towards the bottom of the phone it seems like that would be what you want.

I would assume a site like monoprice.com has them
Unfortunately, it does not look like monoprice has any angled cables. That was the first place I checked. The cables I found are made by StarTech. They sell them directly from their website, or they can be purchased through other sites like newegg.com.

I personally want one for my vehicle. I have a phone mount to the right side of my radio. Since the charging port is on the left side of the phone, this new cable will allow the phone to charge without interfering with my radio contols, and it will look nicer when charging.
The new cable will go straight down and into the 12V adapter. Should look nice.

Desktop Charger

I've tried having a look around and I can't find a desk charger/cradle for the Lumia 800, I know the hinged door cover makes it hard but does anyone know of one that is compatible?
Thanks!
I bought this N9 charger and it works well:

Unfortunately, it's out of stock on amazon but may be available in UK

Thanks, I'll have a look at it. Where is the micro usb socket on the n9? How does this dock deal with the open door on the 800?
Same place, top left. The N9 & Lumia 800 have the same body (barring camera button and flash LED placement).

Awesome, thanks! I was a bit worried that the phone would have to be put upside down in the cradle.
I'm off to see I can find it in stock somewhere.
That only stands the phone up, the USB charger goes in the top as normal. You'd be better off (and save money) by just leaning it against something while it's charging.
It's not the same as an iPhone dock (or some HTC docks) which connect the phone directly to a charger when you place it in the dock.

htc rhyme has connectors on the back... thats what i call dock
I say, this is a marvelous find on my behalf, I was getting to the notion that I may just have to leave my phone in a horizontal position on my desk for the rest of eternity.

[Q] HTC Jetstream Bent pins... Anyone done repair on one yet?

I have had it for years, love it, I let my mom borrow and she tried to force the charger in upside down. Anyone have any info on replacing the usb/charger port? pics, advice, prayers, anything would be better than going in blind. I have not opened it yet, but is the footprint the same as a micro-USB (which I am kinda assuming) could I possible just replace the usb with micro-USB port?
thanks in advance
cheers,

I've indicated which three connections that you will have to unplug -- in addition to unscrewing the charging board. The only two tools that you should need are a pry tool (a knife will probably do) and a Philips or Frearson screwdriver.
i had the same idea of doing that, but as far as i know that is impossible

[Guide] How To Repair Your USB cable

Hey there guys today I'm going to show you how to repair your usb cable (top part) if the cable has been broken! If the cable has been suddenly dead and you see that one of your 4 inner cables are partially broken!)
What you need:
A screw driver or something that can tear loose the plastic part on the top of the cable (or something similar) I'm a screw driver)
This is what i used:
{
"lightbox_close": "Close",
"lightbox_next": "Next",
"lightbox_previous": "Previous",
"lightbox_error": "The requested content cannot be loaded. Please try again later.",
"lightbox_start_slideshow": "Start slideshow",

"lightbox_share": "Share",
"lightbox_zoom": "Zoom",
"lightbox_new_window": "New window",
"lightbox_toggle_sidebar": "Toggle sidebar"
}
Now be careful we don't want to break anything! we want to be able to use the parts again after you fixed the steps
Once you taken the plastic part of and that damn rubber thingy
You'll see 2 metallic peaces that holds together everything. Be careful when taking these away these are useful!
Once they are removed you should have a cable looking like this
Now the tricky part is to not start to remove the green part and pull the cables out. make sure you remember the order! else it won't charge! (See picture) for correct order!
Picture taken from downside of the usb
Picture taken from upper side of the usb
NOTE The 4 cables needs to have same length so they all get connected properly!
Once you put them in correctly put back the green part and the black part, press so you hear a slightly click!
Once done put the metallic parts back (the one that is inside of the other is bottom part) the metallic that goes above the other one is top part!
Once done put back the plastic on and you're done! :highfive:
I know it looks horrible but at least the cable is working!
Nice Guide
And thank you for taking time to post.
Yes i already knew how to do this BUT for the noobies a handy guide
Over here in uk as we are lazy buggers we pop to the Pound shop and grab another!
Careful with getting another one
Cheap USB cables are 24/24 and can only provide 300-500mA power,
you need a proper quality 24/28 cable that is certified to atleast 1200mA for the Lg G3, and a 2A cable is recommended.
its a bit more expensive
http://www.amazon.co.uk/AnkerĀ®-5-Pa...id=1429352682&sr=8-6&keywords=micro+usb+cable
But when you notice that your phone is charging twice as fast as that PoS you got at poundland you know its worth the money.
