Sim card query - Hero, G2 Touch Q&A, Help & Troubleshooting

Just having a wonder whether my sim card could be effecting signal performance. Seems the placement of it is crucial.
I'm worried about whether its making the right contact anyone else noticed the hero has 8 sim contacts yet the sim only seems to have 6 contact points.
Just curious.

Sounds like you have an old 2G sim card. The later 3G sim cards have 8 contact points. Your phone provider should be able to send you a new one. Until then you'll have no access to 3G/HSDPA.

That's the thing I can get 3g just I'm not sure on how its performing.

That's a link to it could you check it out for me?

Noone? If someone could compare please.

Are you sure you get 3G? A 'G' symbol means GPRS iirc, 'E' means edge and 'H' is 3G/HSDPA
Here are two sim cards I have, one O2 and an old 2G Virgin one

I can get hsdpa. The problem I'm facing is the reliability of the signal.
I'm quite convinced I may have the wrong type of sim and considering this came with the phone many other ppl may have the same problem.

Sim card pic
Managed to sort a pic of my sim, not just one the same style.
I've marked the points where the 7th and 8th contacts hit the sim.
Hope someone can shed some light on it.

anyone here from germany eplus (or one of its subgroups)??? i never had umts (=3g) only edge, and im living in a big city..

Had a very brief and fruitless conversation with T-Mobile tech support who wanted me to wipe the phone and that's all she could advise because they don't have much information on the g2 lol.
Could any UK T-Mobile customer check their sim and compare it to the pic in the link I posted and how their signal is.
Thanks.

[Q] HTC thunderbolt on AT&T

I don't know if this question has been asked before, but is it possible to unlock the Thunderbolt to work on the AT&T network? I recently got a Thunderbolt from my friend who is on the verizon network, but I'm on the AT&T network, I would like to use this phone on AT&T, I love this phone too much.
No you can't because Verizon uses CDMA, AT&T uses GSM.

and just to clarify...the sims are completely different sizes/shapes to one another
Sell it and get yourself an Inspire, the closest you will get to a Thunderbolt on AT&T right now

Actually the sim's are the same size, I put the AT&T sim into it and its the same size.
I just wasn't sure if it was possible, there are a lot of Unlocking sites that claim to be able to unlock it using the IMEI number. So Im guessing its fake and that there is no way to unlock it.

I guess if there is no other way, might as well just try to sell it and get the inspire.

It can be unlocked to use on another CDMA x LTE provider, such as Metro PCS.
I was thinking they made the switch over to the micro ones... sorry i stand corrected on size
yeah, you can stick the sim in there all you want but it isn't going to convert an LTE or CDMA radio into a GSM radio with AT&T bands.

[Q] Aria as a Micro tablet!?

Hey guy/gals I have had my Aria now for near half a year.
I got it with AT&Ts Hostile take over of the Alltel cellular in my area.
Well needless to say AT&T really blew my skirt up so I went and got a DROID Inc2 from Verizon!
Anyway...
...back to what I was saying. I have this nearly untouched Aria that I have S-off and no service. I have set it up with CM7 and CWM v2.5.0.7 so it can charge while off.
I have been using it to stream video of my fish tank on USTREAM to my 5yo Niece, and occasionally as a backup MP3 player but the lock screen says "No SIM Card" "Please insert SIM card" I have taken the SIM card out so I am not inadvertently using AT&T service so they can bill me more for service that does not work in my area.
I would like to know if there is a way to hide this?
I have already tried to addro.carrier=wifi-only to the build.prop but it didn't work.
Any Ideas?
Anyone else doing this?
Why is the sky blue?
Where do babies come from?
WHY?
...Yeah thanks guys! I know there is an answer lurking out there somewhere...

And someone correct me if I'm wrong here, but with a deactivated sim in there you can also use the device to call 911 in an emergency, for whatever that's worth...

You don't even need a SIM card to call 911.

Simple answer, you can't.
Long discussion as to why you can't is here.

Yes you can but it wont be 4g nor LTE, just a 3g .I've been using gophone for the past 8 months with the I9100, the Note, the nexus, the one x and now the S3. OP, in addition to the 50$ a month's you have to add a data package.
http://m.androidcentral.com/att-introduces-new-data-plans-gophone-customers
I'm using the 25$ for 1gig of data. Once you purchased that you have to enter the following apn under mobile network settings:
{

"lightbox_next": "Next",
"lightbox_previous": "Previous",

Then your data will work. It has to be the I9300 not the carriers S3 version. Any other unlocked, unbranded smartphone would also be fine.

[Q] My One never connects to LTE while my wife's S4 connects fine

Hi everyone,
I have a prepaid plan on my T-Mobile One PN07130, updated to 4.4.2 last night as well. It will not connect to LTE, only up to UMTS/H+. My wife's S4 right next to it is connected to LTE with no problem.
The network mode is set to GSM/WCDMA/LTE auto, my APN is identical to my wife's S4.
Any idea what it might be?
Thanks!
Take out SIM card and put it back in and restart the phone. If that doesn't work you can do a factory data reset.
Sent from my HTC One using xda app-developers app
The only thing i can think of is APN settings.
Double check them and make sure its exact.
I once made a mistake of putting fast-t_mobile.com and another time put fast.t_moble.com
Thanks guys for the input but I've tried these as well as verified settings.
What I did find different is that her S4 has the network modes listed as LTE/WCDMA/GSM while my One is listing GSM/WCDMA/LTE. Does it mean LTE is used last?
I think I'll just stop by a T-Mo store and see if they can figure it out.
If I have any findings I'll report back.
Mine is listed the same way.
Sent from my HTC One using xda app-developers app
The order they are listed doesnt have anyhting to do with priority.
LTE will always be given higher priority, then WCDMA then GSM.
Your wifes phone is a Samsung phone so they list them differently.. but the priorities are the same.
I see. Mine was activated fresh while my wife's S4 was activated by porting her number from Verizon. I wonder if she has some kind of provisions on her account that I don't have, therefore she gets LTE while I don't...
I'm hoping to get to a T-Mo store today and get this sorted out.
have you tried calling T-Mobile?
Ha, so I went to a local T-Mo store, the guy looked at the phone, rebooted, checked APN and all other mobile settings. He said all looks good, but no LTE.
He said, lemme go to the back and get a new SIM card. He scanned it into the system, put it in, and BAM! LTE right away!
The SIM I had in there, I purchased directly from T-Mobile, so was my wife's SIM. He said the SIM apparently wasn't capable of LTE... Never heard of such thing.
Anyway, I'm a happy camper now
Thanks all for the suggestions!
Glad its working. Probably a glitch in the system during initial set up. Now that the rep replaced your SIM the system reset its self and all is good..

LTE bands in Chinese version

I'd like to know for certain what LTE bands the M5 8.4" version sold in China, has, without relying on information Chinese sellers publish on their online portals or Aliexpress. So this is just a request for a picture. If anyone gets their hands on Chinese M5 8.4" version - please take a picture of page 8 from Quick Start Guide (enabled LTE bands are listed on that page) and attach it here. TIA.
I am in china on business. I wanted this too if it could work on att. I will try to stop by a store today and check for the both of us

Saw this a bit late. I already got the answer, and the M5 from China, Their version supports all LTE bands, used by AT&T and T-Mobile, besides band 2. LTE works fine - I posted speed test screenshots in another thread.

I am home in NY and I'm getting 33 down and 12 up on 4g. I don't know why it doesn't say lte. Also I can't use voice typing function with Gboard. Problems for another day I guess.
---------- Post added at 04:59 AM ---------- Previous post was at 04:45 AM ----------
Gboard is being finicky sometimes it works and sometimes it says voice search is not supported on this device.
Are there any content restrictions downloading movies on netflix, amazon, etc because its recognized as a Chinese device?
