Extended battery with higher mAh value? - Hero, G2 Touch Q&A, Help & Troubleshooting

Hi All,
I was wondering if it is possible to use a battery for the Hero with higher mAh value so that it lasts longer? The stock battery is just 1350mAh while I have seen a thread in which someone was using a 2400mAh battery on an HTC Dream!! If that is possible on Hero as well, it'd be a biiiig WOWWW!!!
Any comments??

Yes it is always possible but you take the risk of voiding your warranty + running higher temperature. I used to have 2x capacity battery in my previous HTC phones and they all end up bloated after some time.

So, it is not safe at all!!?? I would love to have a longer lasting battery though Mine is not too bad looking at how much I use my phone... but needs charging everyday and I don't have WiFi on. I would like something that needs charging at least every other day.

The standard size 1550mAh battery looks good but it doesn't seem much more powerful than the hero's stock battery. How much of a difference would it make? Or it designed more to be a replacement than an upgrade?

It's about 15% higher capacity that the original, so that will equate to at best a 15% longer battery life. If the stock battery barely gets you through the day, I'd say it's an upgrade!
I had a Mugen power battery for my HTC Shift, and it was great. I think I'll invest in the 1550mAh version as it will just give me that little bit more juice, and won't affect the form factor of the phone - the large battery will make it far too bulky IMHO and for the price I can get 2.5 1550mAh versions!
Regards,
Dave

Don't forget your Mugen Power Coupon Codes, I just saved 5.00% on my purchase.
Current working code: 5OFF2010
Enjoy
If that is no longer valid just google for a new code, that show I got mine

3000mAh Battery and cover

Have just bought an Hero 3000mAh battery and larger cover for £14.99 uk (free postage too) for a test. Will report back as to performance since it has just arrived and am in process of charging.
Only downside so far is thicker cover is black, but that is puerly a cosmetic factor and doesn't bother me too much. Am hoping that this will give me better than a days charge with Android 2.1 ROMs.
Am not sure that I can post where I bought the battery from on the Forum as this could be considered spamming. Could someone clarify if I am able to give the link.
I have just purchased one as well after seeing this post, Will hopefully be ok.
Initial impressions of the battery seem to be positive (pun intended). Had a slight worry when battery indicator dropped a single bar within an hour, 20 hours later and indicator is still sat at one bar from full.
Am still on my first charge and expect the battery to reach it's full potential (another pun) after a couple of charges. So far am very pleased with value of this battery and the charge it holds.
Could you maybe post some pics on how thick your hero is with the new battery
does a 3000Ma battery can do a damage to the phone?
if it doesn't, why everyone dont buy it?
Bit difficult for me to take photos at the moment, my camera is mounted up for my work and takes ages to set back up. The battery cover adds about 6mm to the depth of the phone in an area equal to the size of the battery. I actually have big hands and find it more comfortable to hold than the standard cover.

3000mAh is the capacity of the battery it should run for longer, not the voltage supplied so no damage should occur. The problem comes with quality control on aftermarket batteries, they can be of lower capacity than a standard battery, despite claims of a higher capacity.
There have also been cases of aftermarket batteries overheating and expoding, it is rare but can happen. I bought the battery as an experiment to see if it lived up to the claims and am prepared to take the small risk of serious hazards with the battery. In the end it's down to paying for a name and strict quality control, Kellogs Cornflakes or Unbranded Breakfast Crunchies.
The large capacity battery's make your phone fat and ugly
I rather work with 20 hours of total battery life with a beautiful piece of kit, then to run 40 hours with an ugly 80's looking fatso.

I don't mind having a fat and ugly phone, it tends to be topic of conversation and draws attention away from the very similar owner in my case
feedback please

One thing I have noticed about charging this battery, is that the indicator will show battery as fully charged. I found that giving an extra hour after fully charged is shown will give a much better charge. So far the battery will give a good 36Hrs with Wifi continually on, haven't tried it with WiFi off for a long period, so far about 12hrs and it is still showing fully charged.
Thanks 13...
this was really helpful... i will go ahead and buy one
Has this battery worked good for you guys? No problems? I kind of need a bigger battery for the times I'm doing jobtravels etc. Earlier experiences in non original batteries are both good and bad. Bought a battery for my HTC Diamond, and the phone got fried. Don't wanna experience that again (even though my job buys me new phones when I need one)...
Just wanted to know you my experiences.
I have a 2600 mAh extended battery and my running time of the phone with enabled WiFi and Nimbuzz is about 48 hours. Without WiFi, pure Standby, is about 85-90 hours.
You need at least 10-15 recharge cycles to get the full capacity out from the battery.

Sounds great. I might have to try one of these batteries. What battery did you buy?
I bought one of this too, off Ebay. Although the phone is a bit uglier and slightly heavier, the battery seems to last between 2 and 3 times as long. I gotta say it's totally been worth it. The extra size isn't that noticable either...most people look at the front, right?
Well i bought one and i rly dont like it.
Its almost a half centimeter bigger and allot heavier.
So be ware the phone does get ugly but you do get more battery power.
Tbh i rather recharge my phone everyday then make it so ugly
I've just ordered this battery.
Can any one give some real numbers? For example how long will it last with 3g network active. I bought this one for outdoor activities when I can't recharge for a few days and I would like to know how many days I can depend on it.
Thanks!
I rooted my phone and tweaked the crap out of it.
Runs 48 hours with standard battery now.
No need for fat and ugly
I have this battery + cover too.
Because it's bigger, I find it easier to press the hardware buttons on the bottom of the front of the Hero. THe only drawback is the total volume in your pocket, but that's just a minor point.
Also, flashing Modaco's 3.1 Rom and the newest RADIO Rom, the phone lasts for about 6-7 days with normal use (wifi/3g on when i need it, some regular phonecalls/texts)

[Q] Any one tested G1 1700mah battery?

Old battery is running out of juice. Recently found some 1700mah drea160 g1 battery on ebay. Any one tested them yet?
What happen to the ecell 1500mah battery? couldn't find it anymore.
By the way, I'm looking for a standard battery (fits in original housing), please reply if you have something to share. Thanks
Don't know if its the same battery i bought about half a year ago at ebay germany but i had no luck with it.
It was labeled as 1700 mah battery... now, 7 month later the battery has power for about 6 hours in standby (think about 500mah rest capacity)
Even in the first months the battery had not more power than the original htc 1150mah battery, the standby time was about the same.
I recommend not to buy it... better get one or two cheaper standard capacity batteries
Sent from my T-Mobile G1 using XDA App
well I just ordered mine off ebay, total came to a lil over 5 bucks.
Im guessing its not gonna pan out, but hopin it'll be at least as good as stock, and if its either of those, im getting my money back and keeping the battery. So tis a win for me no matter what.
I'll do review.

There's a flood of standard capacity battery on ebay that I can't tell which is good and which is bad. I'm just wishing to get one that will last slightly longer than stock or as long as stock. Guess I will have to look around for a bit.

well just recieved my battery, its fake, and came with a sticker stating 2500mah! Lmao. same size as stock. But im gonna try it out for a week, and as long as it works better than my old battery, i'll give positive feedback and not request my money back.

This battery works great for me, have had it a few weeks now, has easily doubled my battery life and standby time is crazy it never has come close to dying while on standby.
The one I received is a little different than the one pictured, my backplate has just the camera recessed and not the whole area around it. So the back is even throughout.

ha 2500mah. No wonder the seller did not reply me when I asked if this is truly 1700mah battery. Alright, let me know how it goes. Thanks
Guys,
I found a 1700mah battery on ebay (restriction on new users stops me from providing the link, but it's from Seller austintexwireless ( 18439 sales))
Do you think it's fake at 1.60$?...
I am looking to buy a bigger battery, but I do not want the extended packs with thick back covers, so would prefer one that fits the original slot.
Any advice?

I ordered three batteries off ebay. Two of them were delivered and I'm waiting for the last one. One of the batteries is 1050 Mah and the other is 1150. They both hold equally with a little edge for the 1150 one. I'm really sceptic that in this thickness the battery could have a larger capacity than the stock one. This is a limitation of the Li-Ion technology. However, both of those batteries are much better than the swollen stock one after 1,5 years of use and do a great job. One more thing. The 1050 one was from HongKong and cost me about $3 and the bigger one was from UK and cost me about 7-8$, but was delivered much much faster. I think that you can't go wrong with a battery for 3-4$ but I recommend getting two batteries and an external charger - it's a must have for power users. That's it.
My ANDIDA 1600mAh battery begins to show its age (used to last at least 1-day of use, sometimes 2-day if use is light, now barely make it over a whole day) after 11-month of use. So I got a new 1700mAh (by SCUD) battery.
I shall report back how it performs after a few days of use...
ANDIDA 1600mAh
SCUD 1700mAh
P.S. They both weigh 24g.
A quick search finds that lithium ion's specific energy density ranges from 150 to 250 W·h/kg. If we take the highest specific energy density, so 24 / 1000 * 250 = 6W·h (WHr). Divide 6W·h by 3.7V * 1000 = 1621mAh.
So it's THEORETICALLY possible that these batteries can contain 1600-1700mAh of juice. Whether they can actually store as much is, well, another matter.
Of course, the above calculations haven't taken into consideration of the weight of the housing and the circuitry so the figures should be a bit off.
P.P.S. I remember the original battery (1150mAh) weighed a few grams more through.

that pictures even says 2500 mah, I wouldn't trust it.
so, after a few days of use, it isn't as good as the andida when it was new. the andida surely lasted me at least 1-day of uses (unless i'm using gps the whole time, which drains the battery in a few short hours). this one, it lasts a day of moderate use but not much left.
i'm hoping that with more uses, it will be more "warmed up" and last longer.
i'll report back if this happens.
Looks like the SCUD can last 1.5 day of use mostly.

Battery Review. Andida T7373 2000mAh

The reason why i bought this battery is because i wanted to end my work shift with at least 20-30 percent(on a single battery) f obattery left to make phone call if needed, extend my phone usage away from a charger and longer web searching and the Andida 2000mAh didn't help at all. The result
OEM Battery 1500mAh: listening to music from 4 to 1am = 10% battery life left
Andida 2000mAh: ran 3 test each time my phone ended up dying around 11:30-12:00 this battery is not 2000mAh it somewhere around 1100-1300 it make an good back up battery but not an good extended battery.
I well be running some more test, like how long it last on 3G compared to the OEM battery but as of now i see theres no need to.
If you need an extra battery this is worth the money, but if you need an extended battery its not.
I got mine about 2 weeks ago. Haven't seen anything Earth-shattering as far as performance under normal use, but I watched a 2 and half hour movie on the device yesterday and it only went down to 50%.

i listen to alot of music etc etc daily when im at work so that when i would be able to see if its really a big change. I always end the night with about 10 percent of battery life.
Not terrible
I'm using a pair of these, with an external charger. I don't see that they provide a lot of advantage over the original HTC 1500Ma battery that came with my TP2, but they are an acceptable substitute.
One thing to keep in mind - I think they are heavier than the stock batteries. They are advertised as LiPoly, but I think they are LiIon.

You are using the US T-Mobile version, from what I can see in the pix you posted; the only one available is the Mugen 3200, it runs about $79. I have not considered it because it really makes the back of the phone stick out. And it is expensive.
I buyed an used Touch pro 2. so i dunno how was the OEM battery when it was new. When i replaced with this 2000 mAh it nearly double up the battery life. From my site there is full satisfaction.

Aside from the poor English in your post, there's no way a 2000mAh battery is giving you double the battery life or even close to it. It is only 33% higher capacity than the stock battery.

good luck budy...i hope your phone dont die or that battery dont explode...is a well known battery and some people have a lot of problems with that...
i dont recomend that kind of battery...is way better spend more 5/10 bucks for original one and have two battery's.
anyway, good luck!!
Really interested in seeing the results as well. I have been looking for a slim battery that will last me through the whole day easily.
Yes, I'm also very curious!
When I was looking for spare batteries I've seen this one but I did not trust is because of the big capacity increase...
Let us now how it works out!
My SOT is so bad. I just installed a mod to increase the battery life. Let's hope that works.
Found review for the one OP posted. Does not look that good. There is another one here with so-so review.
AnTuTu Battery Results....
After my second full charge, i ran the AnTuTu Battery Tester, and lets just say it didnt like this battery at all. I will continue to use it for the rest of the week, and see how it performs on a more with my normal day-to-day usage. I will also post another benchmark on the original battery after a full year of usage, and see how it compares to the new one.
LG Battery History....
...this is the screen shot from the Battery Widget, on the Battery History, when the AnTuTu Battery Benchmark was running, so it looks like only getting around 2+ hours....
Don't believe what the knock off batteries say. There's no way they can fit more battery into the same size as the original without dumping millions into R&D to create a new type of battery.
....after a week of usage, buyer beware...lol, you get what you pay for I guess. really just a sub-par battery, and I will now be using as power bank replacement...and continue using the ORIGINAL battery which came with the device...lol, $9 for a power bank ok i guess... Yeeeeeep, the cheapo batteries off ebay always overstate the mah of the battery, and after a few months begin to degrade very rapidly, and your battery life will be worse.

Hi, thats not correct. First, the companys dont invest millions in this batterys. We have the same technic in the g4 as it was in the g2.
Second, sure its possible to get more mah in a pack with the same size.
To get more with the same size, the distance between the celles get smaller.
So they bring in more cells in the same size.
But the problem is that 500mah is nothing.
With standard 3000mah we take a number of 3 hours SOT.
If we count simple, we get from 500mah the power for only 30min.
To get the full power of a battery its recommend to make around 5 to 8 full loading phases. In this time the battery is the same or a little less than the original.
Is the loading phase complete, we get like count around 30min more.
If the screen is brighter or you write a sms more then normal the min go down.
So, i would say thats normaly its not measurable but its really more power inside.
I buy alwasy cheap batterys and had never problems. All manufacterer of batterys buy the cells from 3 or 4 big companies. Inside is all the same.
watch out guys!!!!
i have used cheape batteries from ebay amazon ect.......
after 2 batteries my motherboard died !!!! and even befor that my device have said many times battery invailed and wont power on because the contact (piece tgat contact the battery and suply the power) wasn't recaching into the cheap battery

MPJ 6000mah extended battery

Here's a quick over view of my experience with this battery. So far I've been very impressed getting over 10 hours in SOT. It makes the phone about twice as thick at the bottom 2/3 but is actually quite nice to hold still and not too heavy. The actual capacity is massive I'm sure its the 6000mah they claim which is surprising considering how cheap it is relative to the other brands.
The back cover that comes with it does feel cheap and flimsy but I purchased the honeycomb case with the battery so that is not a big issue for me. My major concern with this battery is its voltage. On the battery it is printed that the Max charge voltage for the battery is 4.2V (the standard lithium ion Max voltage) but the lg g3 takes its battery up to 4.35 volts (due to modern phones using a slightly different li on chemistry). Constantly taking the battery to 4.35 volts when it is only designed for 4.2volts will significantly shorten its cycle life. For this reason I'm using an app called Battery charge limit to only charge my phone to 92% which is equivalent to around 4.2 volts.
Overall highly recommend it and the honeycomb case if you want to give your lg g3 a new lease on life and massive battery life without breaking the bank. Time will tell how long it'll hold up. Saw reviews saying after 6 months the battery swells up but hopefully by limiting how full it charged to that can be prevented.

Don't all g3 models use same battery? I have the d855 and it works fine. You lose NFC and wireless charging but I didn't use em anyway.
As long as your battery is BL-53YH it fits fine
Ah yes. That one I got aswell.
Not only acts as awesome battery, but comes with a SUPER COMFY case (feels icky going back to the usual case, this is way more handfriendly)
It should work for D855 too;
I bought one from aliexpress which was stating 7500 mah but the SOT is still the same with original battery. I tried some apps to estimate the capacity which actually was ~3000 mah.
So I dont want to waste money again. Can you share some screenshots for your SOT? BTW the shape of the battery and back cover is the same as this one
Nah haven't got any screenshots sorry mate, my g3 died of the dreaded screen flickering and fading bug. Trying to sell my extended battery now actually. But anyway I guarantee its an extended battery was getting 6+ hrs sot when I was getting 3 before. You can also look at the Hyperion 6000mah battery pretty sure it's a clone of the mpj or the other way around. You can look for YouTube videos of people using the battery too btw. Cheers.
