track outgoing minutes, sms and total GPRS data (KB) - Hero, G2 Touch Q&A, Help & Troubleshooting

Hi All,
I just got my hero yesterday. after playing around with it i realised that there is no way i can track my total outgoing call minutes. I also could not find anywhere in the phone to check the total number of outgoing SMS/MMS. Total GPRS data transmitted, in terms of KB, also could not be found anywhere in the phone Are the above some missing features of HTC Hero?
If yes, is there any android apps that can help me achieve the below?
1. Check my total outgoing call minutes and preferably able to reset it every month
2. check the total number of sms sent
3. track the total number of GPRS data transmission (in KB or in MB)
Thanks a lot

There's an excellent free app called NetCounter on the market. Does exactly what you're asking for.

Any other messaging app will come with a counter to tell you total sms's sent so far. And yes, I am using NetCounter to check my Mobile and Wireless data throughput. Dunno about GPRS though...

Netcounter can only track data bandwidth but not outgoing minutes or total call minutes. Anyone can help?

PHONALYZR
Download Phonalyzr

PHONALYZR does not separate outgoing and incoming call. It only shows total number of call time (in minutes). Any apps that allow tracking of monthly outgoing call time?
Thanks

[Q] SMS & call time widget

Hi, I'm looking for an app that gives me a simple widget showing how many SMS I've sent in let's say the last 30 days, and how many minutes I called.
I found SMS counter, but nothing that shows me everything.
Anyone knows something like this?
Try DroidStats
Traffic Counter Extended - Free application on the market
- Cell (In/Out)
- Wifi (In/Out)
- Call (In/Out)
- SMS (In/Out)
It also have a widget.
Using Stats Free.
Incoming and outgoing calls and texts.
2G / 3G / 4G data and wi-fi data.
All counters can be reset automatically on a chosen date.
Thanks a lot, I will try all of them but right now the DroidStats "Pro" seems to be exactly what I wanted, very beautiful widgets and an accurate costs counter.

[Q] How do you block texting on the Verizon network?

This isn't specific to the Rezound, but how do you block your phone from receiving or sending text messages. I couldn't find the option on their website, nor any other guide for doing it.
I am going to use Google Voice for my messaging.
Nevermind, you have to call them. Or at least that is what the customer service guy said.
that's basically it yeah. I called long ago to have them disable it. you pretty much should call for any adjustments. I also have it set so if I use up my minutes it automatically declines calls so I don't get charged overages. I have the cheapest 200 minute plan & mainly just use Skype.
You know if you go over you can just call and say you want to bump up to the next plan, no overages, then the following month you can go back down.
Is that the senior plan or whatever? The two hundred minute plan? Will theyvlet me on that because I don't use many voice minutes a month. If u do I could just use groove IP to make a few calls.

its a plan that's not officially offered anywhere, you'd have to call Verizon and ask them to put you on it. I didn't know about it myself until I called once asking if I could just have data only onmy plan stating that I don't really use my phone for calls. they wouldn't give me data only(unless it was for a tablet) but then said they had a special 200 minute plan instead which aaved me $10/month so I took that.
Quick ?, I am new to Verizon. If I use google voice for sms does that go against my sms plan? Also If I use skype that wont go against my minutes? One more, If someone calls me on my google voice number does that use my minutes? Thanks for any help. By the way I am loving this phone even more than my epic touch!!!!

Google Voice uses only data. Your texts with GV do not count against your SMS limit.
Google Voice does not count toward your number of sms.
Skype does not count against your minutess.
Both count against your data.
Google voice forwards to your phone number, so it does use your minutes.

Whoa seriously?? That's awesome Visual Voicemail is on the Note. That was one of the biggest things I missed from iOS. Using the same voicemail as dumbphones seemed like such a contridiction on my Captivate.

Consider Google Voice.
Visual voice mail with text transcription is just One of the features.
Others include setting same phone number on multiple phones (land line or mobile phones) and choose when to ring them based on a schedule.
View or listen to your voicemail via phone, mobile app, or web app.
Custom voice greeting per user

Voicemails sound metallic with google voice, and the transcription is almost never correct.
I noticed when someone is leaving me a voicemail this what happens: phone starts ringing about 4 to 5 times then stops while the caller is still hearing that the phone is ringing for another 5 - 6 times then Google voice kicks in. TOO LONG for the caller to leave a message. Any way to shorter the amount of the phone rings before Google answering machine picks up ?
If only google voice allowed mms
And not sure if you guys have noticed that they say calls wont be free next year? Not sure what that means.

Google says that every year. Basically, they don't want to you get the idea that the way current GV charges will be that way forever.
I'm actually using GV primarily for international calling (not Canada) because it is cheaper and hassle free than any other methods.

if this is true then no thanks to GV. my clients need to leave a message, i can't have them just hanging up because they can't wait forever wondering if VM will come on.

You know whats funny sometimes, certain friends may send me an mms message and gv will notify me of it but I'll have to look in the gmail inbox to view it. It only happens with some not all.
Its like I use my minutes every time I make a local call with gv anyways, so I have no idea what they mean. I hope they dont mean it'll cost me double to use gv.

There is a code you can dial on your phone to change the duration when your voicemail will pick up. It's an AT&T setting, not configuration through any other way.
This is how you adjust when a call goes to vmail
On your phone, dial *#61# and click Send.
Some information should be displayed: number that the calls are being forwarded to and the delay before the forwarding engages.
Write down the number (including +1)
Dial **61*+1xxxyyyzzzz*11*30# and hit Send. +1xxxyyyzzzz is the number you wrote down previously, 30 is the delay in seconds. The delay can be set in 5 second increments, 30 is maximum
Dial *#61# to verify that the new settings are active.

I find the VM quality as good as the carriers. The transcriptions are not always perfect, but they are alsays close enough to allow me to quietly read all my VMs (during a boring meeting) to determine if i can delete them or save them to take action on. I find it to be an amazing service; of which the Voicemail is just one part. If you have multiple phone's its invaluable.

thanks for that, but even if I set ATT voice mail to 5 sec pickup Google voice takes forever to pick up. Seems like GV is the one needs adjustment. im sure there is a setting somewhere

GV app on your phone doesn't use VoIP at all. What it does is auto-forward your outgoing GV calls to a local phone number nearby. It does this to avoid anger carriers. If GV does VoIP calls, all carrier will bar the app being avaialabe to their phones.
So, yes, you still use you minutes.

question on viber use out of the country

I will be in the Western Caribbean all next week & my son told me to use viber to talk with him in upstate NY for free.
Do I need a Wi-Fi connection to do this?? I know it will work on 3g also, but wouldn't that incur massive out of the country roaming charges?
My son used it to talk to a buddy in the Army in Germany for a month with no charges, but I'm not sure if he was using Wi-Fi or not??

Hi,
This is a member of Viber Team!
Viber to Viber calls or messages are absolutely free when selecting the Viber badge in your Viber contact list or the button which says 'Free Call' or 'Free Message' within the contact info of your Viber contact list. Viber does not charge your carrier nor Viber users. Calls or messages placed from Viber to "non Viber users" will go through your local cell phone provider like a regular cell call. Once you and your friends download Viber you can talk freely, locally and internationally, and these calls will not show up on your phone bill.
All you need is an Internet connection: 3G or WiFi wherever available (3G may incur operator data charges or internet access fees. Check with your 3G provider to see your 3G plan). The bandwidth rate during a Viber call is approximately 240 KB per minute / 14 MB per hour.
If the party you are calling doesn't have an active internet connection or has their Viber application turned off when you call, the call will time out, and once the person reconnects to the internet, or once the person opens the Viber application, they will receive your missed call notification or the text message you've sent. Viber will not automatically divert to your regular GSM (cell phone provider) service.
If you have any question about Viber - please feel free to ask.
Thank you,
Viber Team

Google Voice, Facebook, Twitter etc on the Gear S

This may be obvious to some but I figured I'd start a thread just in case any of you had missed it.
With the Opera Mini browser you can connect to the mobile versions of all of these sites and if you bookmark them they will show up on the start page of the browser.
This is especially handy if you use Google Voice as you can read messages and respond to texts straight from there.
Btw, if you use Google voice you don't need to worry about forwarding options on the Gear S because you can just add it to your list of phones and it will ring (and be transferable etc) just like any other GV phone.
Here is a how to video (NOT mine):
http://youtu.be/vpIRfw6aN4k
Anyone else recommend any other mobile sites that work well on the Gear S?

THIS is true I can call/receive text/voice through Gv on gear just fine
Can you explain more in detail about Google voice. I don't have a plan on my gesr s. Are you saying I can get phone calls to my gear s without a mobile / data plan?

Sorry, you would still need a mobile / data plan.
Google Voice links all your phone numbers and gives you a central place for voicemail / texting.
So for example if you had...
A landline: (555) 555-1111
A cellphone: (555) 555-2222
A Gear S: (555) 555-3333
You could give people your Google Voice number (555) 555-4444 - that's the only number you'd ever need to give them because it will ring all your phones and if they send a text to that number it would go to both your cell and Gear S (and your computer).
I don't even know my house phone or cell phone number because I've never given them out to anyone - just my Google Voice number.
It also lets you block numbers (plays "This number is out of service") to cut down on junk calls (or calls from your ex )

For ME I have my GV calls forward to my phone so I get calls through my phone but when I'm on gear only mode I just forward calls and text to gear S. I have a sim card and plan (Just because) my gear S number has now become my GV number. I recieve calls/text from all 3 although I personally use 2. Data would work on wifi only I don't pay for Gv so I'm not sure if there is a data plan but my talk/text is free

Good point, on Wifi (or tethered to a phone I suppose) you could / would receive txts on the Gear S as well as be able read voicemail but Google Voice isn't VOIP so you'd need a phone line of some sort to actually talk to someone (though you could initiate the call through the GV webpage via call back)
