which phone i should use to get the IMEI number - Hero, G2 Touch Q&A, Help & Troubleshooting

such as the title
i need to unlock my het hero. it needs to get the IMEI number with my htc hero or with my old phone? if using the new HTC hero, but it's locked now, does it still work for getting the IMEI number? many thanks

imei is like the serial number of your phone. without knowing what you want to do with your imei this question is pointless.

What you are looking for is the code:
*#06#
On _many_ phones, if you 'dial' that number it will tell you the IMEI code of the device. But remember, this is not on all phones, and most modern smartphones stay away from this rule-of-thumb, but show the IMEI number somewhere in an 'about this phone' box or only printed on the phone or something.
Good luck.

HTC hero and magic IMEI numbers clearly printed on the box, but IMEI numbers are only useful to the device it is allocated to, I think.

*#06# works on the Hero and the HD.

dear all, i need the IMEI to remote unlock my htc hero. but i text the *#06#
on my old phone and used that IMEI to try to unlock my htc hero. finally it failed. so am confusing that which phone i should use to get the IMEI number. thank you very much. xxxx

i've sorted it out. dont need to insert the sim card instead of pressing the *#06# directly. then got the IMEI. hope this solution also helps others who have the same problem. cheers

There are four ways to check the IMEI number of an HTC Hero:
1. On the box the Hero came in.
2. In the battery compartment. You have to have good vision for this...
3. The afore mentioned code *#06# which you simply dial in the phone app.
4. Settings > About phone > Status > Scroll down until you see IMEI.
No, you can not unlock a phone from another phone.

If you have a CDMA phone you have an ESN number instead of an IMEI.

what kind of carrier? i think its the MEID DEC number on the back is your ESN
do you need the unlock code? you can get it pretty quick with putty and no other software.
My esn number is clearly marked under phone info. So this is instead of an imei then?
yes... IMEI is for GSM only... ESN is for CDMA

Need Help Unlocking Phone

Hi there I currently own a Sprint HTC Touch Pro CDMA phone that i purchase as it first came out in the States of 2008. I need help on how to unlock my phone. I have read around the forum and hear ppl saying that i would need my IMEI number but i have no idea where to find it on my phone, I have tried the *#06# number but doesn't work can anyone help me out with this. I would really appreciate it if anyone can help me with this problem i have been having.
I have located two sets of numbers under my battery labeled as MEID HEX/MEID DEC. would either of these set of numbers be considered my IMEI number.

If you go settings>system>device info>identity it shows imei.
IMEI
I'm afraid I went to Settings > System > Device Info, and the Identity tab only shows Model and Platform (RAPH800 and PocketPC, respectively).

The above thread states you have an "ESN" number instead of an IMEI number. Search is a powerful tool.

Use Search Luke Use the Search
I know the phone can be unlocked so you can change phone number etc...

[Q] How to get IMEI without valid SIM card?

I'm trying to get unlock codes for a pair of HTC Titans, and to start the process you need to obtain the IMEI code. Unfortunately, I don't have AT&T simcards, only T-mobile simcards. Dialer won't let me dial *#06# to get the IMEI code because of this, saying I can only make emergency calls.
Is the IMEI found in the About screen or from under the battery not valid for unlocking the phones? Any recommendations regarding how to get past this roadblock?
There is only one IMEI number per phone. It could be printed on your box, show up in about screen and under the battery, all the same number.
In airplane mode *#06# brings up the IMEI just fine

On the box, area where your S/N is on the phone (where the battery is placed), and by dialing *#06# ....
I thought there would only be one IMEI number, and that it should be the same. It just seemed strange that every instruction for buying unlock codes asked for *#06#.

That one is the most trustworthy number if you don't know the full history of the phone. For mine, it was brand new in box and sealed so I was comfortable using the IMEI off the box.

Normally changing IMEI is a criminal violation in most of the countries. And normally IMEI is contained in the inaccessible first 256 kb of flash data (part of the phones) or even in separate chip.
Some useful reading for you regarding IMEI changing: http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=276851

Not usually or on its own, but an unscrupulous seller can change the IMEI, or give you a phone with a different IMEI and a box with a different IMEI.

[Q] Not Registered on Network

Hi all. Just after a little help if possible.
Bought a 2nd hand S2 and was told it was locked to Virgin, before I bought it I made sure I saw the buyer make a call with the Virgin SIM on the phone.
I downgraded from ICS to 2.3.5, rooted the phone and used unlock tool from Market to unlock the phone. Tried several SIM cards in the phone, but I cannot connect to any mobile networks. In Phone Status, it shows phone number, signal strength etc but when I try and make a call is shows ‘Not Registered on Network’
I went out and bought a PAYG Virgin SIM card as I thought the unlock may not have worked correctly and exact same thing happens. Put the Virgin SIM in my unlocked HTC Desire and works fine. So, its deffo the phone that has the problem. I checked the IMEI number online to see if it had been blocked but it looks ok.
Any thoughts??
Thanks in advance.
Hi
A few things to check/try -
Does the IMEI number displayed by typing *#06# into the dialer match the IMEI number on the back of the phone (Under the battery)?
When you put a sim card in (other than Virgin) do you get a message from the phone asking for a network unlock code?
Does the network name of the Sim card appear in the status bar?
Which app did you use to unlock the phone? I've used Galaxy_S unlocker several times without any issue. (I install a ginger bread rom first, then insecure kernel, then root, then run Galaxy_S Unlock)

Check ur imei no dial *#06#
verify that imei no with the one beneath ur battery
if it same then try flashing the stock rom again and root it and try unlocking again using the unlock soft from play store
Yes, the IMEI number matches so no problem there. Have been onto several free IMEI check sites to see if the IMEI number is blocked and it shows as not being blocked. How reliable these sites are I do not know...
No, no unlock message comes on. However, I locked the phone again when rooted and put the Virgin SIM in, which it should be locked to so should work, and I got a SIM unlock message? So, when the phone is locked, it does ask for unlock code, when unlocked using the app, lock code doesn't appear.
I do not get the name of the network in the status bar. When I look at the phones status, it does show a signal strength, and I do sometimes get signal bars but when I try and use the phone I get 'Not registered on network'
I used Galaxy_S app and did everything that you have done!
Have tried flashing stock rom, rooting and unlocking and nothing seems to work.
Worried that I may have bought a nice, expensive media player...
If your IMEI matches up with the one under the battery then I really don't know why you can't get a signal. Maybe someone else on here will give you some better advise. It sounds to me like you did everything right. The obvious thing would be if the phone is on the blacklist (stolen phone, or reported as stolen, 2 different things!). I wasn't aware of any sites that can tell you if the phone is reported as stolen so can't comment on how accurate they are.
Hope you get it sorted, it's the best phone out there at the moment so would be a shame if you can't make calls on it.
have you tried with diferent modem? or diferent rom?? or both at the same time?
for the modem try KI3 or KI4, seems to work pretty fine for almost everyone..
have you tried
hi have you tried going to
settings>wireless and network>mobile network>network operators
and checking the settings in there are set to autoselect network.
if this does'nt work +1 for all posts below.
hope it does.
also not sure but i think sim lock is set in security settings and the pasword for unlocking is stored on the sim that password was put on. anyone feel free to correct if this statement is wrong. many thanks

[Q] IMEI number has become unknown

Hi,
Three months after getting this OX+ I get round to using it and put a new sim in it only to find there is no signal and the IMEI number will not display, it is "unknown".
I have just paid for an IMEI report which shows it`s identity and history is legit and the numbers tie-up with packaging and sim card tray and phone serial number. The report also says the phone has not been modified/rooted. The boot loader is locked. Is this a dead duck or are there measures I can take to restore the original IMEI by rooting/clearing cache etc?
