[29.10.2009] MarketPlaceRegionSwitch v1.1 - Windows Mobile Apps and Games

Here it is people, as promised, MarketPlaceRegionSwitch. What does it do? It allows you to switch MarketPlace to USA, Germany, France, Netherlands, etc. Whatever you want - without mucking with regional settings, soft-resetting, etc. "because I can"
I DEMAND you read the entire post before using it, because there are definitely things you should know before using it.
This app actually fools Marketplace into thinking you are from somewhere else. This method is not foolproof, and may be circumvented by Microsoft in the near future. It is not for the faint of heart either.
Why?
Because developers have been left in the cold for manually verifying their apps are in the correct markets. Microsoft have dropped the ball a few times with "published" apps seemingly not being published at all, or incorrectly. While I'm sure Microsoft will fix these issues in due time (and indeed provide the functionality this program offers) for now developers need to check this for themselves. So no, this app is not meant for end-users, but for developers. If you still want to use it, that's fine by me, but it's on your own conscience
Keep in mind this is a developer tool, for verification of Marketplace presence. I would strongly advise against using this to download apps from market regions that are not your own, and especially not buying them through this app. In fact it is likely the Marketplace will not allow you to purchase from another country than your CC's billing address in either case.
How to use
Now here come the important bits. When you start the application, you will see two text boxes in front of you. MCC (mobile country code), and Lang (language ID). By default they have settings for the USA entered.
You will want to fill these values with the correct values for the market you want to visit. You should have matching country codes and language ID's, but see the note below about that. In 1.1 I have also added a select box with presets that mostly work.
Now, how to find the values you need to enter here:
MCC Go to this page: http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Mobile_Country_Code. You want to enter the numeric, 3-digit code.
Lang Go to this page: http://msdn.microsoft.com/en-us/goglobal/bb964664.aspx. You want the values from the LCID hex column.
Hit go, wait a few seconds, and you should be in the market of your choice.
Please note that unlike the other region switching tricks, this one is supposed to work through your CELLULAR connection specifically! Please make sure you do NOT have USB/ActiveSync or Wi-Fi connected!
Notes about the "preset" selection box
While many of these presets work, I have noticed some strange behavior. Often the 'expected' codes do not work if a region is combined with a language, but that language is not from that region.
Take for example, Luxembourg. The preset uses the correct LangID and MCC for French/Luxembourg, but it usually wont work. If you keep the Lang from French/Luxembourg but use the code for France in the MCC box, it usually will work and you will end up in the Marketplace for Luxembourg, not the one for France. You will have to play with it if you want to test for these less common markets. If you have specific notes about which codes work for which specific Markets, please do post them here.
If you are having trouble connecting to the USA marketplace, try using 311, 312, 313 or 314 instead of 310 in the MCC box.
How it was done
The entire thing is done by runtime patching. Functions used to figure out which locale you are in are patched by the app, returning the value you entered in Lang. Accompanied with that, the IMSI is patched and the MCC part is replaced by the value you entered in MCC. This all is a lot more complicated than it sounds
Obviously the app does it's best to restore original behaviour on exit, though I would still advise soft-resetting when you're done with it.
Random notes
The UI sucks, deal with it. I spent less than 5 minutes on it. I did spend many hours on the actual functionality, though.
The app should remain running while running Marketplace! It will (should) automatically exit once you exit Marketplace. Be sure to use the menu->exit function, instead of the X (the latter will usually just hide Marketplace, not close it).
The method used to patch may cause issues that will not disappear until you soft-reset, chances are slim but things can go wrong.
Changelog
29.10.2009 - v1.1
Presets added
Having to restart Marketplace twice without this app to get back to your "home" market should be fixed
If you are a developer for Marketplace and you make use of this app, it would be much appreciated if you would DONATE to me for my time (the link to donate is at the bottom of my signature)

I'll test it if you want.
(Drop me a PM or something if you want)

Kudos, Chainfire.

1.1 released... most importantly it adds presets. Not all of them work right, see the notes.
Also, some mod please add an empty post at the top please (I always forget to do that, hah!)

sweeeeet.. going to try it straight away
Update : Cold beer coming your way

Great work, wish I had a data plan...

Nice one, post #2 is your's .
Dave

Hi,
Great tool, but it doesn't work for me. After hitting the go button the app closes completely down.

Chainfire, you are a god!

I have to say, a great app, but it doesn't work for me.
I applied the standard settings (being the US one) but after this when I start Windows Marketplace I still get the dutch one.
I have Wi-Fi turned off, so what am I doing wrong? (I have the Marketplace version where you can select the location to save your app)

For those of you it doesn't work for, I'm not sure what the cause of this is. I actually had the same problem on one of my phones, it wouldn't switch away from Dutch (my "home" marketplace), and then suddenly it did - and I have been unable to reproduce the problem since.
All I can say is try uninstalling Marketplace, deleting HKCU\Security\Software\Microsoft\Marketplace, soft-reset, reinstall Marketplace. That might do the trick - or it might not.
@Sanderjohan: device/rom ?

Congrats on your thread at Tweakers.net

Also, it seems to work more reliable if you make sure you have a cellular connection before you run the app.. Also make sure you are NOT signed in with your LiveID

Thanks for this great app, it works flawlessly.
I have already tried to buy a product but it did not accept my credit card information at the last step. May be there could be a work around for this also.
Regards,

Hi Chainfire,
My device is a HTC Tytn II with the following ROM Kaiser_HyperDragon_IV_Mega_6.5_WWE.
I already had Marketplace installed so I will try the thing you suggested by uninstalling and reinstalling Marketplace. I let you know if this works.

iMate JasJam ExtRom 1.31.305.107 (Telstra)

New ExtROM for Telstra iMate. Has the new video viewer so you can watch Foxtel etc. Probably some other bits and pieces that I haven't had time to take a look at.

Haven't tried it with any of WM6 flavours.

Excellent work. Just loaded Black 2.0 and didn't really want to load the new rom I just downloaded from iMate website. Time to install some cabs and have a play with the Foxtel channels.
Dev
You mean the one that was released weeks ago and discussed here?
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=299597&highlight=telstra+rom
yeah it was discussed and released, but nobody extracted or posted the extended rom.
I asked for it, but nobody did it. This is great, got the files.... now....
i noticed a lot of new stuff.... lots of cabs that are not normally there. does anybody know what they do!!! i would like to get some of the new features, i know instinctively what a lot of them do, but i really dont have any clear guidelines or indication for the following as to whether they will add value, or clutter....
Default ...
3518_07
A_AIMEIDetector
MyPlace
Wavedev
MWizard
NITZ Disable
PP Version
PrefRat_2
RTSP
These are the two I want
videoplayer_No_Unistall
Telstra v5.2
Just wondering if I need any of the first few, at all to get the next two.
I know some gurus can extract and see in side what they do, i dont have these facilities, skills or knowledge, so if there are people who can, would you mind... i can post the cabs individually back if you wish.

I believe the player is to fix a streaming video problem that existed in that the default player did not work with the format that Foxtel is streamed using.
Not sure about the Telstra 5.2 bit. I'm not smart enought to deconstruct these things...
EDIT: Oh never mind... I just realised what the question was... It's too early in the morning to be reading and posting

the Videoplayer_no_Uninstall is for Foxtel
Telstra v5.2 is for setting up dataconnections and stuff... but this checks your IMEI before it starts...and if its not an IMATE it will not load...
Ok, i seem to have found a little bit...
NITZ is network identification and time zone disabling facility, so dont install...
MyPlace appears to be some sort of shopping or internet web facility link/app probably just to encourage us to buy more...
WaveDev is supposed to add base boost to the device for tcpmp and the like, so probably worth installing
RTSP is real time streaming protocol, so probably needed for the foxtel installation
PP Version might be to do with the java midlet, not sure yet.
MWizard cant find anything on at all yet.
3818_07 and AUS_HR and prefRat_2 still looking....
Installed MyPlace cab which has a few good web shortcuts. Also installed the Videoplayer_no_Uninstall is for Foxtel, but it comes up with an error when I start the app."PVPlayer cannot be opened. Not signed with a trusted certificate, or one of its componets cannot be found".
So I think it may need another one of the CAB's installed to get it working.
ANyone else had a play with this yet?
Cheers,
Dev
RTSP didn't help, still got the error.
I'll try another cab.
i have extracted and got all the cabs. i havent tried the foxtel, though that is the one that i want.
there is a subscription fee.
also an imei check is required, if you dont have imate, it wont install apparently. mine is imate jasjam, so hopefully it will work.

Getting a bit of research going, and testing.
FIRSTLY. IF YOU HAVE WM6 DO NOT INSTALL PV PLAYER OR RTSC.
You dont need it. Media Streaming works for Foxtel services. The reason PV Player is available is due to WM5 and the shortfall of the OS. WM6 uses media streaming and it works, so we dont need that.
The new telstra cab file is beneficial. It installs the correct settings for MMS and internet, sets the WAP facility and i also find i get better phone connection, might be an appearance, see later.
The proxy manager that is installed should be used with My Places, to force the system through the WAP and thus receive the concessional access charges of My Places. Also, My Places being WAP based, is very text limted, and download size limited compared to most, so the cost of access is much cheaper.
However, I suspect leaving the proxy on is going to interfere with push email, and general browsing. So its a matter of turning the proxy on before connecting to the internet (and WIFI is not available when proxy on), so that you can connect to the internet My Places and their rosey garden of chosen content.
However it is possible to access foxtel via the normal internet settings, but suspect if you do that you are going to get or incur premium data charges.
So in summary the ones i wanted i dont want, and the ones i didnt want or need, i installed. Not all though, if I couldnt see a reason for them, skipped them.
Still awaiting some feedback or input in what most of them were about, but if you are on telstra, then some of the items in that extended rom are worth while.
If somebody after this does want to know what i installed, and the effects (if known!), PM me. Its going to be a bit of trial and error over time, so better to PM rather than me keep posting back....
Also, might be beneficial for somebody to consider looking at some of the other files like the mms and other cab files, to see if they are newer, better, or more efficient than the standard device settings.
Personally, i aint gonna bother unless i find a need, i am sure anything in wm6 is going to be better than what imate are releasing.... (thanks to jasjamming and his premium wm 6 OS.... )
Thanks for the info simon. It is appreciated.
Is any of this required in WM6? Is it possible to just get the ExtRom by itself? I upgradded to the latest ROM from iMate/Telstra, but i want to upgrade to WM6 too...
just download ext rom review as reqd but install telstra cab and my places cab if u want foxtel. there are 3 others installed and didnt appear tause harm but cant see what they did or the benfits.
somebody needs to open the cabs and let us know wot they do.
i also installed the 3518 odd ball one, the one with AUS in it and pref-rat as its name imples prwference rates but dont really know wot these 3 did... but again caused no apparent harm.
Have installed those two cabs but cant get Foxtel to work.
I go to my place and click on the Foxtel icon, and I get the following error "Page cannot be displayed or downloaded because the connection was lost". I do have a data connection as my push mail & web browsing works perfectly. I'll have to try other cabs as when I click on Bigpond music icon on My Place, it comes up and says Non Telstra, so there is obviously something missing.
Any ideas anyone?
Dev
Do you have the telstra proxy turned on?
you should b able to access wap on my places without proxy. proxy reqd for most things though including foxtel.
can u browse the internet? is connection set to internet or work?
if that fails disconnect from internet and use the telstra proxy and view the rese coloured telstra garden...
No, I didnt have proxy enabled. Just turned it on and it doesnt make any difference as I still get the same error message. When I click on the Foxtel icon, it want to connect to Telstra.internet, not Telstra.Wap. Both my WAP & Internet connections are working perfectly.
I'm stumped!
Dev
Yea - I cant get fox or AFL vids to function either. Can browse to the wap sites, etc, and click on the TV stuff, it loads up the Windows Media player, says 'Failed to connect', then closes.
Im working with WM6 Black 2.0, with just the Telstra 5.2 cab and My places cab installed. Proxy was set to 'On' for my testing.
Would like to know if I need any other cabs from the Ext rom to get it to work.
i am having difficulties. still testing. but... in media streaming ... need to set the connections settings as to which to use may be secure wap or simply wap. not sure which yet.
i had the test working ok... cant get live to work yet. need to fiddle and ensure doesnt exceed downloads while testing...

UCWEB UC Browser 7.0.0.41 some security comments

It looks very promising, advanced, lots of features, but...
1. GUI errors, lots of texts and error messages appear in chinese, despite being official English version.
2. Writing known addresses, it always jumps to default chinese versions of site (ex. Google.com)
3. Trying to open link in new tab/window, it hangs completely, need soft-reset or use FdcSoft Task Manager 3.1 and wait few minutes
4. Trying to launch page from history, nothing happens.
5. Cumbersome to import favorites: only from PIE, no Opera.
6. It seems Chinese communist censorship has said its final word , trying to navigate to sites banned by Chinese communist govt, you see an error message in chinese .. well..if giant Google is on knees in front of Communist Chinese authorities, what would you expect from a homeland chinese company.. ?
7. What is really annoying and a real security risk is that a lot of browser traffic goes via some chinese servers, despite clarifications from UCWEB company on their support forum that this occurs ONLY at first start after install.
To be more clear, I say that any western country citizen should be very suspicious to this program.
Perhaps only third part country may ignore, but to let your personal and secret data pass through a chinese server, you must be completely irresponsible.
Otherwise a nice product, pity is so unsafe.
To be joking, I'd say: ok, I'm a western (USA, Canada, GB or alike..) I know the Big Brother is watching me (NSA, CIA, FBI, MI6..) I know how to behave.. I have nothing to fear, don't care if they know my bank account or my sms to my girlfriend... but the thing is totally different when such info is "used" in China to blackmail you...
With regards,
The biggest issue I have with it is that it doesn't close down properly for me. It leaves a large chunk of ram in gwes.exe (2-3 MB). If I run sk Tools 'compact heaps' after closing it down, it will release the ram. I didn't have this problem with 6.3.
Well, It is actually a web broswer initially made for chinese people (cuz it's a chinese company) and the server would surly be in China to inssure the speed. "Maybe" some day in the future the UC company would have their development in western countries and then you can use it without the fear of being threatened or something else.
However, There's not doubt that it offers a great compression ratio of data that saves our bill. Being an user in China, I've been using it everyday since I got my first phone.
It's a good app and I hope it can be popular around the world in the coming days.
Sorry for my bad English.
Best regards,
Rotar

I agree with you, it's a very good one.
Same compression alike Skyfire, Skyfire can Flash but the rest of it is poor.
UCWEB is great, but no flash.
Flash in UCWEB 7
To be frank, the new version of UCWEB - 7.0 supports Flash. (Well, it is better to say that it is capable to display flash, you can ONLY see it working by visiting:
mlf.gd.ucweb.com/ppc/index.xhtml (Using your UCWEB!)
(Not sure if this works outside China, but you can try )
At least the chinese version works well. It requires you to install a plugin called "Adobe Flash Lite 3.1" and UCWEB will do the rest for you.
Heres some screenshoots:
ATTACH 001
This is the website that has the flash games compatible for UCWEB 7. Unfortunately it is in Chinese so maybe you can't understand it.
Just click one of the links and this will show up:
ATTACH 002
If you still havn't got your "Flash Lite 3.1" installed, UCWEB will notify at here and you can easily follow its steps to make the flash play on your screen.
This is what it looks like:
ATTACH 003
It also suppert full screen mode which would offer better graphic in landscape mode:
ATTACH 004
I guess the company is working on making the flash to show on normal sites. I wish I can see that in this year.
Hope you enjoy it.

its a good browser from speed point of view. but wz sum bugs .exmp afrer inistallation when connected through gsm its ok. then if turned to connection through activesync it failed !! hope they ill fix dat bug in the future version.
Love UCWEB 6 but hate version 7....My issues are the same as all mentioned but also It will only connect via WIFI!!!!!!! try connecting via GPRS or 3G and fails. always showing a 9007 connection error!!! seems very odd.Hope they sort it out...
regards
Lohtse
been using on I910 for a week and 6.3 long before. I experience none of the problems the first poster had and works on WiFi and 3g. love the new rendering (adaptive mode) of sites in version 7 and scrolling is much better. I am in america and if the chinese want to watch me surf PDA sites, look at train pictures, check sports scores and look up prices of things and read user reviews. god bless them. my credit card number and bank accounts being entered on my phone will never happen. very nice browser great improvements. but people with questionable surfing habits BEWARE the chinese are watching. he he he. post done from ucweb.
good day.
No flash outside China

Oh! What a pity! Wish you could see that in the next version.
BTW, back to the security problem. I guess I could also say that using Skyfire is dangerous because its server's in America. However, it supports flash well. Then it is our freedom to choose what to use. Hopefully nothing's going to happen when we use these broswers since we ought to be friends and live in peace. The globalization is happening and our world is becoming a big village (ideally). May there be less suspecions and misunderstandings between countries and people.
Best regards,
Rotar
P.S. I hope you can understand me because even myself can not make sure how to express the above ideas in Chinese.
Update:
I discovered that the site has changed it URL. Now it is "mfl.ucweb.com.cn". I guess it'll work this time.(Tested via an oversea server, you should be able to see/download the page on your PC.)

i installed it on my samsung i600. ucweb took long time to start, and make my phone freeze. i restarted my phone, and it happened again. any ideas?
Security... wouldn't b a problem if you are not accessing secure data like online bsnk passwords etc... But its not a problem at all for me because this super fast browser doesn't connect through GPRS...

[APP] Who's Near Me (Mobile Geo-Proximity Social Networking)

Hello everyone,
We have released a free new Windows Mobile application called Who's Near Me. In a nutshell, this application uses GPS (or cell tower info if no GPS) to determine your location and then displays other users that are nearby you - along with their photo, age, gender, and bio. You can then start an anonymous message conversation with anyone on the list. It uses your data connection only so you are never charged for any text messages.
The application is still considered beta but has already been in closed testing for a few weeks. Most major issues should be resolved at this point. We plan to add it to the Microsoft Marketplace for Mobile as a free application in the next few weeks - at which point we expect the number of active users to increase substantially. A Windows Phone version (with additional functionality) will also be available at the launch of the WP7 platform.
The application is free (100% free, no advertisements even), small, and pretty cool. You can download the latest version of the application from our website as a cab file directly to your phone at http://www.synergetechsolutions.com/whos-near-me.aspx. The download link is pretty clearly located to the right of the page title. I have also uploaded the current release's cab file to this post. This current release is focused for touch devices and no testing has been done with non-touch phones. Windows Mobile 5.x and 6.x are both supported. The Microsoft .Net Compact Framework 2.0 is required on the device.
Since the application is in beta, your feedback would be greatly appreciated. You can either use the feedback form in the application or post your feedback to this forum post.
Thanks,
Brian P. Hamachek
President & CEO
SynergeTech Solutions
Cool app. If you all can get everyone to adapt and use this program, it could become it's own personal social network giant. Kind of like speed meeting
Who's near me?
Well - I still don't know. Heard about the app from 1800pocketpc. But so far, can't get it going. Downloaded from the dev's website. It says it was installed correctly. Then when I open it it says, "Connecting to service..." and it just goes around and around without ever connecting.
I wonder if it is because I live in a rural area (Boron Ca 93516) without very good cel coverage? Bc I thought I read it works to position you through cel towers.
I have no idea. Wanted to test it. But no luck so far.
Crash after view SynergeTech user profile. Fail to connect to server then.
Using HTC HD2.
started good, chatted a little bit.also notified by answers.
then after a while, I tried to answer again and app crashed. restart didn't work "profile error"
After soft reset my hd2 was very slow.no background process to see.restart still failed.
reinstall takes no effect.sometimes it crashes to answer, afterwards profile error.
but the app is young and a great idea.
please add options to switch off/on gps localization and use cell manually.
the footprint/cpu usage is quite high and noticeable on hd 2...
sended also report by app, but crashes afterwards...
keep up good work! thanx
Mine also just stops and get stuck on the Connecting to service... on my touch pro 2.. great concept though.. Cant wait to get a working version.
Same thing here. Gets stuck at the connecting screen. ...On TP
Will be waitin for the app to start working...
Thanks for all of the feedback. As I stated, this application is still a beta release. We have just published a major update though and the issues some of you were having should be resolved at this point. The application is picking up popularity in Europe so it is definitely worth taking a look at if you live there. Here are the changes that this update include:
Substantially redesigned the user interface (see attached screenshots)
Added a settings screen - including filters for narrowing down the nearby people list
Added support for showing distances in either Kilometers or Miles
Added ability to "delete" messages in order to reduce clutter
Fixed local timezone bug on messages list.
Added terms and conditions consent screen.
Fixed geo-locating issues for some locations.
Added auto-update (with a confirmation prompt) feature.
Fixed issue that caused profile to revert to showing age 13
Many, many, many performance/bandwith enhancements
Many, many, many minor cosmetic and usability improvements
Overall, the application is much more usable now. We hope to get it into the Marketplace for Mobile as soon as possible - which is when it should really get intresting.
You can learn more here: synergetechsolutions.com/whos-near-me.aspx
I have attached the latest cab file for the application to this post.
Thanks!
Latest beta still is not working on my Sprint Tp2. I hit agree to terms and conditions page and gets stuck there now. Would like to give this a try..
Check and see if there is a file called "WhosNearMeLog.txt" in your My Documents (or Personal) folder on the device. If an error is occuring during connecting, it should be logged there. Please send me that file and I will diagnose the issue for you and either fix it in our software or let you know how to resolve it on your end. Thanks.
at first: it's an app, which it free and a beta - soo I appreciate your efforts and don't mind in any way if something doesn't work.
just want to say thank you!
now the result if new cab:
it can't connect to service.
I installed it to internal storage and switched on wifi.
but no way to start it.
I saw... you rely on wwe ... and I have german rom. so I didn't found it in startmenü (= start menu) and had yoi start it in /storage card/programme (not programs or program files)
perhaps the .cab lacks the international parameters like %ce1% or %ce11% ?
or inside app is a wwe-path hardcoded?

It's working fine on my T-Mobile HD2. Wish there were more people using it though (of course). Nearest person to me is 3000+ miles away...hahaha
Works on Hd2
Just testing it now, works well. Thanks.. Found 28 people and nearest person is 48 miles away

I saw... you rely on wwe ... and I have german rom. so I didn't found it in startmenü (= start menu) and had yoi start it in /storage card/programme (not programs or program files)
perhaps the .cab lacks the international parameters like %ce1% or %ce11% ?
or inside app is a wwe-path hardcoded?

I will look into this. The application is currently being used primarily by users located in Germany (due to a popular German website writing about it) and I haven't heard of this problem yet so not sure why it isn't showing in your start menu.

Someone else reported that the application would not run when installed on a storage card. They reinstalled in the device's main memory and it worked for them though. The application isn't excessively large (around 1MB) so hopefully this will be a suitable workaround for you. This will be addressed in hopefully the next release though.

Obviouslly, this application's value really won't show until a fairly substantial userbase has been established. I am actually fairly encouraged by the number of users that the application has established already though. I was expecting hopefully 50 users would help beta test the application. In reality, the application has had well over 1,500 users try it in just the last 48 hours. Our goal is to add the application to the Microsoft Marketplace for Mobile as a free download once the bugs have been eliminated - hopefully sometime in the next 2 weeks. Hopefully, that exposure will be enough to get the number of users high enough to make the application intresting. Microsoft has also expressed intrest in helping promote the application.
I created a story on Digg about the application. Feel free to Digg it at http://digg.com/d31Qx8J. If it gets enough Diggs, that would really help to get the word out there about it as well.
Thanks!

Thanks.

Thanks,
I have tried installing to sd and main memory with no luck. I get past the connecting to service page, but after i hit agree on the terms and conditions page it just gets stuck there. I dont have "WhosNearMeLog.txt" anywhere on the device.
Thanks again for your ongoing support.
Does your culture's number formatting conventions use a comma before the decimals? For example: 1,20 rather than 1.20
Well, that is what beta tests are for, right?
Jdignazio, please let me know if this updated version works for you.
Version 0.4 BETA (Released on 5/13/2010)
- Fixed issue that prevented connection from devices set to a locale that uses a comma before decimal digits (Example: 4,77 rather than 4.77)
- Redesigned profile picture selection screen and also added functionality to use phone's camera to take a new photo for usage as the profile photo
- Fixed issue where deleted message conversations would return upon the next launch of the application

Still no go on a HTC TP2 on Sprint. Retried installing the new version in main memory.
Some suggestions:
Please add a version number to the name of the file.
Please add autocheck.autoupdate feature in the program once it is run.
thanks and keep up the good work.

[HINT] Accessing inaccessible APK files.

I hope this proves useful to someone, but especially noobs like myself! I've searched high and low for a a way to access and install apps that are either restricted by country (I'm in Vancouver, BC) or by device type of and up to now was only able to find references here at XDA that involve using VPN. If the following tip is already common knowledge and I somehow overlooked it, I apologize in advance.
Yesterday I ran across this article handy applet that so far has worked flawlessly for me:
Clearly I can't post URLs yet but the applet "Real APK Leacher" can be downloaded at:
www[dot]mediafire[dot]com[slash]?5vibfddvxmh98y
No need to install anything, but just unzip the DL into any new folder and run it directly from there. It does require Java Runtime Environment 1.5.0 or later. First time the tool is launched it prompts you for a DeviceID and associated account and P/W for the device. I used the DeviceID for my Galaxy S2.
(To find the DeviceID on a phone, enter [*#*#8255#*#*] (not including the brackets), and find the lines that begin with "JID="and "DeviceID-".
When I first ran the tool, I ran a search and got no results.. Found that the trick is to enter the search term(s) and then select the "custom" radio button. I've used the tool to successfully DL and install 1) Google Currents, 2) Onlive Desktop, 3) USAA Mobile Banking, 4) HBO GO, 5) Canada Post App, 6) UPS app, 7) Fedex 8) Hulu+ 9) all Amazon apps, 10) Realtor.ca, and many others. Till now I haven't run across any app I wanted that I haven't been able to install using the tool. Hope you have as much luck as I have with it.
After downloading the APKs to your computer desktop, simply transfer to the Prime via you're method of choice and install.

I tried to be as detailed as possible in my post (it was late, I was tired, perhaps I wasn't) which is why I went to the trouble of pointing out how I used my smartphone (the GS2) to carry out the procedure myself. I certainly don't claim to know exactly how the tool works behind the scenes, but I think it most likely needs to "fool" the source it accesses to DL the requested APKs into thinking the DL request is coming from a phone rather than a tablet.
In any case, there are probably many ways in which to retrieve a DeviceID. The method I went to the trouble of describing just happens to be the only way that I know how to do so. If you know of another... GREAT... use it. If not, then well, I think anyone frequenting these forums is probably clever enough to figure out/search for other ways.
In this day and age, I don't think that there are many tablet owners out there that don't also own or have access to a phone as well. In light of this fact, I assumed (perhaps unwisely) that readers of this thread don't require the same level of handholding/specificity that less tech-savvy members of the population might.
For those who've found other work-arounds to achieve the same end and are happy with their method, well, this post isn't meant for you. For others, like me, who've been seeking a simpler way, I truly hope you find the tool as useful as I have.

Just googled the tool and seems it's getting quite a bit of attention; certainly not unknown. Favourable reviews/mentions from well known and respected sites. I In fact, I seems like someone here at XDA beat me to the punch in extolling its virtues ... found link to an active thread in the General Section.
While there are ways to check out executables of questionable provenance (particularly a Java applet on a PC) without endangering/in a secure environment, particularly when link to said executable comes from a noob poster such as myself, you are wise indeed to be cautious! For the adventurous among you, check it out at your own risk.
Searching on "real apk leecher" (note the correct spelling), it looks like this tool came out a week ago. It wants your email acct, password, and device ID. At least to start out.
From the screenshot, the apparent dev, Nhat Cuong Mobile, is a Vietnamese outfit with website here: http://nhatcuong.vn/. However, it's a mobile phone sales & repair site, and I can't find any info on software development (I can speak Viet).
If you do try this out, be extremely wary.
If you're rooted try Market Enabler (in the market), change to code to whatever network in whatever country, force close the market app (drag it to App info, and force close from there), then open it again, and voila Access to all the apps you couldn't access before.

Will the Market Enabler app also open apps that are device specific? I. E., phone-only apps for tablets?

Applications I never dowloaded

First off,
Sorry moderators If I choose the wrong subforum to post
Today, I was warned by Google about some behavior with my account and suggested to change my pass. I thought was due my 3G experiments and new IP etc.
Later, testing everything was alright I see a Samsung tablet added to my Play account on November 22, 2012, but don't have one. Only had Motorola and all the time.
Then, I saw my Google account was accessed from Russia but also from United States. And I'm not living there, neither two countries. I see US was the first external Country added to my activity report along November, and Russia was added on December.
The strange thing is Gmail not displaying any strange IP, only local IPs from my computers and phone.
Minutes ago, checking what was download from Market I've found lot applications I never installed. Adults and Games applications.
Do you think this can be because some android apps?
I never downloaded from other sources than market but used custom roms form this lovely forum.
Do you think it's some kind of market problem when devices are identified?
I would like to remove that apps not downloaded by me and the device itself. But seems there is no way to do that.
Any ideas will be really appreciated.
First of all, I would recommend you stop experimenting with your IP . Secondly, you can remove the downloaded apps from the Play Store list but it's a time-consuming process.
1. Open Play Store.
2.Press the Menu button and select My Apps(Phone) or click the Download icon(Tablet).
3.Click the All Tab.
4.Next to each app, there should be a cross or some other icon.
5.Click it and the app shall be removed from your download list.
6.Celebrate !
7.Hit thanks if it helped

Hi,
Thanks for the advice about IP. But this should not be a problem.
This probes how stupid become some companies within time. And we accept his stupidity.
How Google allows connections to your account form a different country than the one you're living?
Small companies have this security option by default.
Two steps verification is one option but not the final solution. This is basis 101. Now I know Facebook or Yahoo are a lot safe.
Now the problem is to remove from my account the android device I don't have.
Some friend says Facebook only needs a search engine to kill any players and seems he is right. I'm very disappointed by Google and unfortunately I have to stick with or move away to Apple.

Whoa man! No need to take such quick actions due to some small flaws Google allows the access because you were still using your phone which is synced to your Google account during the process of testing your 3G and changing IP.
