tilt charger on tilt2? - Touch Pro2, Tilt 2 Accessories

im moving from my ATT Tilt to the HTC Tilt2, and was wondering if the wall and car chargers from the origional tilt would be compatable with the tilt2?
i hope so, both being HTC products and all, but not sure because of the larger battery size of the tilt2, and if there is a difference in the volt/amp on the chargers...
if this has already been asked, im sorry, i couldnt find it.

No its not the plug is a l ittle different....

I'm using the wall charger that came from my HTC Hermes (AT&T 8525) with my Tilt2 and it's working fine. Also the USB cable/cigarette lighter combo that I used with my Tilt is working fine on the Tilt2.
This charger also worked with the Tilt as well.
Mini-USB has certain restrictions on how much the device can draw in terms of voltage and amps, these restrictions are put in place mainly to prevent USB devices from drawing too much power from PCs (mainly laptops, which may be running off of a battery).
Long story short, yes, your Tilt2 should work fine with the Tilt charger, assuming that they didn't put something extra on the plug (I've never even taken my Tilt charger out of the box).

Same here, since the TyTN, they all take MiniUSB 1Amp chargers. External battery chargers are a different thing however...

I'm using the charger that came with my Wizard since my unbranded phone came with the European charger and a honkin big adapter.

I have 3 HTC phones and all the chargers work with each phone and don't seem to have more or less a charge time. Most mini usb plugs will work with any HTC phone. I have the Tilt, Fuze and Tilt 2.

Yes it should work

thanx all, when i got home i actually looked at the specs on the chanrgers input and output and they were identical
i just didnt care for the charger that came with the tilt2, as a 3 piece unit vs the 1 piece tilt charger that also has a much longer cord...

I use my older wall charger and car charger from my Tilt on my Tilt2, and they both work fine.
I'm with you, I don't like the modular design of the newer wall charger. The old one is simple, and I like that. Seems like HTC was just cheaping out by using the same cord for both the wall charger and phone-to-USB. I've been using the cord to hook up the phone to my PC. But the charger part has not left the plastic bag it came in.

I'd call it Apple'ing up rather than cheaping out. The new charger is a lot like the iPhone's with it's usb/plug-in config... I willl say this, then yield to experts. I've noticed some disconnects while using the old cable for tethering that i do not observe while using the new cable. Could be my specific cables as they are old but I am using the new stuff and even considering buying an AC adapter and a couple new cables with the new plug.

Bot Cigarette adapter charger w/MiniUSb tip,,but meant for Motorola?

I bought a cigarette car adapter 12v with MiniUSb plug at the end (says for Motorola V3), but thought I could use it on my Hermes. It seems to charge (maybe a little slower charging that the one I had been using, which got destroyed), and is of good quality compared to my cheap ebay one that I had. It has smart charge protection in it. Someone had told me that any cigarette car charger meant for blackberrys, Motorolas etc that had a MiniUSb plug at the end could be used for the Hermes. Are they wrong?, Should I be worried about it hurting my device? The one I bought is through Cellgear.com,,sorry, the specs on the charger don't appear on the site.
If it is charging a little more slowly, then you are probably ok. Really, if we were all going by the book, we would check the charge rates and voltage outputs against the specs laid out by HTC.
One problem you may face is the the refusing to charge unless the device is switched off syndrome. This can happen with chargers not designed for the Hermes due to differences (it is thought) in the earthing connections. So although it may deliver a charge on the appropriate pins it can sometimes not allow the charging circuit to kick in due to the earth connection difference.
Just something to be aware of if it happens.

v3 usb charger
sure it will charge your phone, in fact I've found any mini usb will do the job, HOW-EVER if the phone is soft reset then the charger is pluged in it will charge ok, BUT once you "use" the phone it tends to stop charging..thats cause the real chargers are wired a little different.
my other half has a V3, my BT gps uses mini usb as does my BT headset, so I just use whatever is around and put up with the problem.
hope this helps

I've been using the following devices to charge my 8525.
My HTC supplied 8525 Charger.
My Motorola V3 Razr Charger
My Motorola V3 Razr Car Charger
My Nextel Blackberry Charger
My Nextel Blackberry Car Charger
Mini USB to PC (linux, win2k, winxp, vista, etc..)
Mini USB to laptop
Mini USB to CABLE BOX (DVR and Non-DVR)
Mini USB to Nintendo Wii
Mini USB to Playstation 2
Mini USB to Playstation 3
Mini USB to HP C6100 Series printer
All of them charge the phone with no issues.
I've found that Blackberry chargers work a bit better than Motorola chargers. I think the Moto chargers provide less amperage than the Blackberry ones. This means it may charge, but more slowly. If your battery is completely dead, the Moto charger may not be able to allow you to boot the Hermes. I think the Blackberry charger will.
The other thing is that cheap chargers, especially car chargers are pretty...cheap. I finally bought a name-brand charger and it's a lot more stable and better built that the generics. If you're gentle with your stuff it may not be a problem, but things sometime get thrown around in my car.

Mini USB the same on "all" HTC phones?

Since HTC Dream isn't for sale here, no accessories are marked to be Dream compatible. There's however lots of Touch (and other HTC models) accessories available. Is it safe to assume that anything that fits the Mini USB of a Touch also works with the Dream? More specifically, chargers (mains and car).

I've used the same mini-USB cable to charge my PS3 controller, my G1, and other devices.
I've personally used, g1 charger, g1 usb cable, BB charger, BB usb cable, moto RAZR charger, standard mini usb.... all of the above are 5V usb spec... only diff for the wall chargers is the aperage...
If your referring to other attachments such as speaker dongles and the like I would venture to say so since the port on the g1 is titled extUSB same as many other HTC phones
Nice - Just what I wanted to hear. Now I can go buy that HTC Touch/TyTN/et al car charger I found at a local shop, and plug it in with confidence. Thanks to all who have responded.

I tried the USB to 3.5 mm adapter, with controls for a handsfree and music (call, end call, mute, hold, play, stop, volume...) that came with my HTC Tytn II, and the G1 didn't react to it...

I used the same MicroUSB to 3.5MM adapter that came with the G1 on my HTC Touch and it worked fine.. it didn't work on my BlackBerry 8830 however, but that one has a 2.5MM headphone out along with a USB out, which i can assume for file transfer.
How big of a difference does the amperage make in temrs of battery life ?
Ex 1 charger I have is 200mah the other 500mah.
Ill assume charging speeds will be different but will this cause any additional wear and tear on battery ?
I wish we had the same thing up in Canada, the Rogers Dream comes with its own proprietary USB dongle on the bottom. So when I lost my phone wall charger I am doomed to PC only charging.

It shouldn't. Anything with a LiIon battery needs a charge controller. The controller's sole job is to monitor the temperature and charge rate as the battery charges and keep it within a certain range. That's why "Battery Info" in spare parts shows the temperature.
It doesn't matter if you're charging from a USB A-to-miniB cable since the G1 will limit the power draw from the charger to 500mA unless the charger has some pins shorted in the USB connector.
Does anyone know if the MiniUSB port on the Dream supports a power OUT function? We are brainstorming ideas on getting flash (as in camera flash) onto the phone, and one idea is with an LED connected to the MiniUSB port

Nope, no power available there. Why not hack it into an extended battery cover? There's lots of room to work, and you could even tap into the battery directly. Just watch out for shorting the battery terminals unless you like your G1 extra crispy.

International USB Charger Recommendations?

I have been searching high and low for a good international USB charger for my TP2 (and other devices). I've found several, but reviews tend to be either mixed or non-existent.
My dream gizmo is something very compact and lightweight that can be jammed into almost any wall outlet in the world, which I can then plug a USB cable into and charge my TP2 (and ideally other stuff which can be charged with a standard USB cable).
Do any of you fine forum folks have suggestions? Or at least warnings for which products to avoid?
Well, when I travel I have a universal travel adaptor (ie it can fit into any power plug), and I plug into that the USB charger that came from HTC. Or I charge from my laptop.
HTC itself sells an international charger kit, but if you're going to multiple countries, it just means extra weight.

Just about any USB charger that has a 5.0V output should do fine. I use the same one that charges my iPod to charge various gadgets.
I picked up a nice one on one of Cathy Pacific's flights. They also sell them on their site.

Oh! I also have iGO laptop charger and various adapters. iGo works great.

Wall-outlet charger

Hey all, the Sprint Hero comes with a charger that uses the usb cable to plug in to the phone. My problem is two-fold:
First, I like having a usb cord on me to charge where ever I go, and I don't like/am bad at remembering to take the usb cord out of the wall unit and pack with me in the morning.
Second, The usb cord isn't very long for a device that's plugged into an outlet near the ground (read: nearly every outlet in existence) and the usb cable barely reaches my desk for the phone to rest on.
Is there a decent charger that doesn't need our usb cable and has a couple extra feet in length? I don't want to get a universal charger because I don't want to fry the phone's charging system, which happened to my old Vogue. Everything I have found online is a universal type charger.
Has anyone had any experience with a good wall charger for the hero?
Thanks,
- JustPyro
You are aware that a standard USB cable works with the Hero? No need to use the one that came with the phone.
Regards,
Dave
Buy a longer USB-miniUSB lead, plug that into your home charger, and then carry the shorter one that HTC supplies around with you.
I've also found the stock one too short so I got a longer one, I also got a 3 inch long one to keep with me for tethering at work.... fits in my pocket nicely and it doesn't need to be any longer when the phone is sat next to my laptop.
These days I rarely find anywhere where I can't quickly borrow a miniUSB lead to charge my phone, they're used on so many different devices. Oh, and don't be afraid of 'universal' chargers - the Hero works with these fine, since USB is a 'universal' standard and 5v is 5v no matter where it comes from.

where can I get a proper working USB / Power cable?

Hi
I'm in London. My original cable is getting a bit worn, and I'm looking to get another one. I got a couple from Ebay - but although they are fine for data they don't charge properly ( same for car chargers ) -
Anyone know where I can get a working one to use with my wall plug in charger?
cheers

I almost never use the original cable, and just end up using standard USB cables and have no problems whatsoever.
Vis-a-vis car chargers, there does seem to be a difference between car charges. I used to find that I had problems charging Blackberry's with cheapo car chargers, but all my current car chargers can charge the Hero just fine.

Dave
Some won't work. Cheap ones won't, generally.
Blackberry ones do though!
Odd but true
universal USB car (or wall) charger with a standard USB to mini-USB cable works just fine

also, bought el-cheapo charging set for various phones, covers almost every brand and type you can have (had few different ones in family so it's practical) and mini-USB is present. it works
