If we already have Marsware that doesn't need NET CF3.5, why not just keep this one nice and simple.
Once youo start adding features galore it just get too resource hungry (memory!)

Sorry about that - I did not use the correct compiler options when compiling to the Pocket PC platform. I have recompiled and the DLLs were merged into the executable.
I will have to troubleshoot the CF3.5 - I didn't target that framework so it should not asking for that. It may be related to the missing DLLs issue, since both require the B4PPC compiler to use "optimized" options.
I have re-uploaded into post #1 - thanks for testing.

This sounds like an interesting idea. Do you have a URL for the marsware's weather panel? I am not familiar with this.

Thanks! I like "Pocket Forecast" and will use that (if it's not in use already). I wrote a wiki application called "Pocket Wiki" so I wanted to stick with the same naming convention.
I don't want to use any application names similar to the great programs A_C writes. I'm not worthy.

I uninstalled Microsoft CF3.5 on my PDA and ran the updated ppcWeather (11/14/08 v.18) - it works for me. That said, applications seem to always work on the developer's systems all the time so that isn't much of a test.
Could you please retest with the updated version?

Thanks for catching that.
I just tested that and that seems to be a new bug after I recompiled with the "optimized settings" - I am not sure what is causing this because the desktop version doesn't do this. Same code, different target environments.
The weather.ini settings themeDir, httpTimeout, and refreshInterval are getting blanked, but the location ids are not. This is strange...
I am going to have to check with the Basic4ppc support team to see why this is doing this.

The code is reading a form textbox variable for the settings that were getting blanked out - I'm not sure why some are ok and others are not. As a work-around, I added code to check to see that there is a value for the form textbox before saving it. Uploaded v.19 and am pursuing this on the B4PPC forums.

The first line in the "weather.ini" file should be "themeDir=default". If it says "themeDir=" then won't find the weather icons.

Hello,
Your program is very interesting, but I can not use just one problem you encounter, and it is important: only lets you open documents in the folder "my documents" in the main memory device. You should modify the program to allow open and save files in any folder on the device memory and the external memory card.
I have not tested whether extensions can also be associated with your program to automatically open when clicking those files from the file explorer program.
If I could use it widely, as I need, I would donate a sum of money for it, in that there is a problem.

True, I had not noticed having to click twice (or press "enter") to run this option to access all folders on the device.
What if I notice that you can not open large files, not size, but more than 100 KB can not be with them.
Nor could I see if you can associate text files "txt" to open this program directly from file explorer.

I've been testing the program further NotepadWS, which I consider a good application, but there are two problems with it:
I have seen two important issues that prevent me from replacing AgileNotesTouch, which is what I use now, for NotepadWS:
1 .- NotepadWS not allow it to associate with files by extension, to boot automatically with this application. For example, if you associate files "txt" with NotepadWS ... file does not start with "txt" open.
2 .- I do not know NotepadWS maximum size allowed, but a file of 100 KB or more does not open properly. AgileNotesTouch allows very large files sizes, without problems.
It is important that NotepadWS could solve these two problems.

Now he has been magnificent NotepadWS v2.5 program. Only one small detail I see in my device (VGA) and is the icon of your program in the file explorer leaves very large, so you see only a quarter of the icon ... only that detail.

@xdaid, appreciate the effort you've put in to this app so far. It has a lot of promise.
I've been playing with it off and on since the 2.0 release. It has not replaced me using AgileNotes (which has its own set of issues for me) on a regular basis, but I look forward to the possibility.
Here are my suggestions and please note I understand you have a life and your own set of requirements when you code, so I know maybe none of these comments might be used...
1. if you can support PWI files
2. if you can handle files with carriage return + linefeed end of line terminator (eg, DOS, windows based text files). Right now, files with CR+LF show up as unprintable characters
3. if you can allow for a default file folder on startup. Use the file shortcut UI you just implemented and apply it to select default, and/or favorite folders. I see you've just implemented it to memorize the last used folder, that is a good start and should be retained unless a default folder is specified.
4. allow for a default file type (eg, TEXT, LOG, etc). Currently always defaults to TEXT when you restart the app.
5. suggest adding or putting an EXIT APP type selection/option in your "cmd" CLOSE action list. Right now it has "X" to only close the active tab, but you have to go to the MAIN MENU to exit the app. Just does not seem intuitive in my opinion.
6. allow the user to select a default background color, font size, and font color if possible (to override system defaults). I realize this suggestion may be difficult or out of scope.
Future wish list, knowing it would likely require extra effort as you may not have the development environment to test on:
a. support the newer WM 6.5.x layout with the STARTMENU and "X" button on the bottom of the screen, or at least detect you are running on the newer versions and keep that bottom bar accessible.
b. use a better file selection UI. Right now, at least on my device, you have to tap on the actual scroll bar to scroll. It should be smooth and fluid like some of the default file selection interfaces in AgileNotes or even Resco File Explorer.
c. allow similar option like Resco or Total Commander for double or single tap to open a directory or file in your selection UI.
Again, thank you for the time and effort you have invested in to this application thus far.

@xdaid. Sweet! Did a quick test run, and seems you incorporated many of my suggestions. Nice work so far.
Only major concern right now is:
- allowing up/down scroll gestures in the file selection UI without actually having to tap directly on the scroll bars. Trying to do a scroll gesture typically selects the item your finger first lands on - basically seems the filename/directory listing of that UI reacts to single tap picking only.
Other than that, my left overs from my prior wish list post are still items:
(1) pwi support and (a) winmo 6.5.x UI support
Again those are not critical, just something for down the road - if even possible.
It's pretty close to being my daily editor and that's saying a lot. Keep up the great work.

@xdaid - appreciate your continued work on the app! Looking forward to seeing that file selection UI more usable and closer to how others UIs act.
As for pwi support, I would put that priority at the very bottom and address any other items you feel are more important.
I do have one additional request after using your app a bit more now:
- add the ability to recognize a scroll up/down gesture versus highlighting text when editing. Right now, when you try to do that the editor strictly acts as if you want to mark text for an action (eg, copy, looking, etc). To scroll through a long document, you have to literally tap on the scroll bar versus the natural inclination of using a gesture.
Other than that, I'm almost sold on trying to the app as my regular editor. Thank you for being so receptive to user comments and suggestions!
For those who like to use the tab character to get fixed spaces / column alignment:
I added a 2.56 version, it's the same as 2.55 but tab character is enabled.

I have a bit of a request: would you consider adding file 'scheme' functionality. Say you are looking a reg file, the 'scheme' would highlight certain predefined key words or phrases making it more readable. The same could then be true for .xml, .mscr or any other file that can be read by notepad. You think that would be doable?

I liked the idea of an ActionScreen ever since I met with this program for a first time (it was on a Sense 2.1 stock ROM so it was really handy). ActionScreen is a simple application which shows the user a screen with 12 (sometimes more) shortcuts which can start/toggle frequently used programs or functions.
But as I am a Rhodium owner, I always had problem with Landscape orientation. The Smaberg's ActionScreen was showing only 2 rows of icons in Landscape or wasn't showing at all. So with the encouragement by Jackos I started to develop my own application based very much on the original idea of the 12-icon ActionScreen from Smaberg. As I am definitely not a programmer I started to learn Basic4PPC for a starter. Then, after I discovered how many environment restrictions it gives I switched to C#.
What I present here is a version which has full Landscape support (the app will run without problems in Landscape and will change it's layout properly even if there will be an orientation change while program is shown).
* NEW * - The whole app has been rewritten from scratch. Also changed to the C# + NetCF. This has not solved all of my memory problems but allowed me to improve on many other fields. The details are in the change log in post #2.
* NEW 2* - I added a VGA version of my ActionScreen. Special thanks to xOverkill who encouraged me to start working on VGA and then provided a great help with testing on Raphael.
With this version you can easily customise each link function by changing command and parameter in:
[HKEY_CURRENT_USER\Software\Skrobel\ActionScreen\LinkXX]
where "XX" is a number of the icon starting with 00 to 11.
You can change the icons as well (all the graphic files are stored in program folder). From v0.5 you can also change the colors of the background (at the moment only solid colours are supported) and the label texts.
And last but not least you can change the text of the labels under each icon in the same place in registry. This can come in handy when you want to change the language for instance.
There is a small readme.txt file attached to this post where I put a brief description of the settings/configuration possiblilities.
DOWNLOADS ARE IN POST #2
Unfortunately some problems have been solve and some not:
- I have problems to effectively dispose the resources upon program minimization. The C# or NetCF uses Garbage Collector for all the disposed controls/images, so the app memory does not decrease when it's minimized (and is about 1300 kB). I can't find a way to do it better
- the WinCE and WinMo environment doesn't support a "minimize form" event. So I used a little trick to override native Windows.Forms.Hide with SW_MINIMIZE imported from coredll.dll. Buuut this doesnt really minimize the app, but only get the window behind all other windows, but in front of Titanium or TodayScreen. That's why I suggest using this app ONLY on Sense/TF3D enabled ROMs or otherwice you will se my app instead of the TodayScreen
- Because of the above my app is visible also during system startup until Sense/TF3D is fully loaded
Actually I found a solution for SW_MINIMIZE (it was easier than I thought). So for now my only concern is to make the app less memory consuming and possible yet faster.

- Skrobel ActionScreen v*.*_softkey_only - especially for p50kombi here goes a third version with only the SoftKey link and no PowerButton action
- Skrobel_AS_Blue_Icons - a set of blue "Pressed" icons for the ActionScreen. Special thanks to MrRusch for a permission to use his work which I found here.

Skrobel, congratulations on your release.
I will be glad to test your preliminary version, let's see what you did improve since the last version I tried.
Some suggestions and tips if I may:
- Do not use text files to store settings like links etc. Registry is a more convenient method IMHO.
- Try to ensure support for more then one language.
- Do something with the loading time (I know this probably requires programming language change), quick! Like I said in our last conversation about this program, hiding the window and showing it when it's needed should help greatly.
One important question: What about ROM cooking? Are chefs allowed to cook this program into their ROMs?

According to the B4PPC support forum the loading time when the app is starting from "0" will not be better at all. I did everything I could to make the app lighter (use only one external library, don't use text labels, use only only one image for the whole form). But it didn't improve the loading time much though...
I already have a version which loads into memory at system startup but it has some annoying limitations connected with the programming environment.
I.e.:
The only way to actually load all the elements (images, controls) into memory is to show the app. So at startup I must actually show the app at least for 10 ms and then trigger the "ShowTodayScreen" procedure to hide it. And during system startup any graphics I'll try to show appear incomplete and for long time (until Sense shows).
Another problem is that there is no "minimize" procedure. Only the above mentioned ShowTodayScreen which always returns to Sense. If the user would run the ActionScreen in order to run a new window (such as new SMS) it's not a problem. But if you want to trigger the BT or WiFi, returning to HomeScreen every time is annoying.
Third problem is that even when the app runs in background it still takes over 600-700 kB which I consider as large for so light image it actually is. Furthermore I noticed strange behaviour when ActionScreen is not used for longer time. It takes more and more memory over time (a memory leak?) and "refreshes" itself when it's actually called.
Buuut in this situation the form shows within half a second.
Language and GUI is on the "to do" list as soon as I will handle the above problems. Actually changing the gui is very simple (there are no graphics merged in the exe, only external ones). But I'm totally not creative when it comes to graphics. That's why I asked for help in the first post.
Finally:
Everybody is welcome to use this program in their ROMs. Just drop me a line that you plan to do it and it would be nice if you referred to this place in your ROM thread but with such small app is absolutely not demanded.
@ Skrobel Any chance of my makin' an 18-button ver, a la wedge666's offering here? He, however, doesn't have landscape support. Your app's lack of buttons is the only thing stopping me from hoppin' on-board.
The problem is that the more controls on the form, the longer time the app needs to start.
So technicaly it's possible and relatively easy, but in the current app state I would like to handle all my problems first to be able to hold the program in the memory. Then addidg or moving controls will really be easy. Plus I will add the possibility to configure the icons and programs yourself so that everybody can customise it.

the landscape support is a very good idea. And since i use the HD2 and the TP2 i have missed this on my HD2. But the HD2 can handle landscape with a manila tweak well. Also in combination with the CHT Suite.

No, he just has a tweak in with he rotates the screen in HD2. His Action Screen doesn't support landscape ditto and that's the problem.

I meant that you where using another ActionScreen (probably from Smabergs) and it didn't work well in landscape.
Skrobel's version does work very well in both portrait and landscape.

What's this GPL thingy?
The GPL can be viewed here. It makes sure your rights as a user are protected to distribute/change/use this Free software as you wish. A copy is included with the program.
Version and Release Info
The main release contains the cabinet installer file. Updates are produced as plain archives, to use the latest update you need to download all the archives and unzip them into your existing TRITaniumWeather folder in order, overwriting any existing files. Versions are numbered just like any good Open Source project:
The first number is the major version.
The second is the minor version-odd numbers are development for the next stable even number.
The third number is the release number-these have feature improvements.
If there is a fourth, it's a critical bugfix release number.
E.g. This program starts at 5.9.0 which means it's preparation for the stable release 6.0.0.

Then you just go into the options app and "view stored weather" as the manual says. I'd recommend switching off status during updates though-it's really only necessary to see if something is going wrong. Or if you like status messages

What do you mean by "disagreed", the program Png2Exe doesn't work on your device or the exe I attached didn't ? If it's the second case this was just an example and I chose the first icon I found
@tito12: Yeah, it seemed to just keep respawning when I ran it. It could be cos my rom's getting a bit dirty with all the crap i put on it, probably time for a hard reset shortly!
Did anyone else have any better experience with it? Or was inspired enough to try out the software and inject some icons? I'm kinda busy with 5.9.3 atm...

You'll need to delete any remaining DB files after install as there is now only one and the old ones are incompatible.
I'll note here that the "Create Titanium Panel..." option is EXPERIMENTAL, that doesn't mean it doesn't work-it just means it's incomplete or there's an issue with it. This is an ideal place for you Titanium Wizards to help me out
Unfortunately Yahoo Weather didn't make it into the release. I've only had one vote for that functionality to date so far.
If you really want it, take an existing feed and modify it-don't bother with the yahoo widget script posted earlier in the thread. I read it and it is horrible code, seriously. Instead you'll need to update SearchXML() or write a new function as the Yahoo feed uses mostly XML attributes, which SearchXML() will skip. All the necessary info to define a new feed is in the TRITaniumWeatherFeeds.mscr file, along with SearchXML() and some other necessary tools, like the weather downloader. One thing I'll say is, only put one exit in and if the weather update fails, make it false

In order to get German weather text I added &"&lang=de" to urlsuffix in TRITaniumWeatherFeeds.mscr on Line 162.

Maybe you want to include different weather text languages in version 6.0.0.
I also translated the labels in the Titanium Panel (feels like, winds, gusts etc.) in an earlier version.

I certainly do, it's on the todo list. Excellent work! I know how the UI can be translated for any language but it'd been nagging me on how to get the weather text done!
For translations of the rest of the program: The language framework in FoddLib features a translator (you can type in translations, it doesn't do it itself!) which I'll use to grab language files for the different parts. Keep the translated phrases in a seperate text file and then I can match them up with their english counterparts. Cheers!

You'll want to uninstall the TRITaniumWeather plugin from Titanium if you're a WM6.5 user as panels are handled in a totally different way with 5.9.4.
Also, I reached the file attachment limit on the front page so I've moved the main cabinet installer across to my megaupload account, the users manual has also been updated and is present in the attachments. Hopefully, it'll stay up to date!

TRITaniumWeather 5.9.4.1 bugfix update
Afternoon weather lovers,
The new language support highlighted two bugs which are both now fixed in the zipfile available on post #1. Just unzip in the main program directory, overwriting any existing files-Espanol.txt needs to go into the obvious directory.
Thanks go to djkail for the Spanish translation. I think you'll like the display you get since it's called Espanol buddy I think that's enough confirmation that the language codes presented here work-so name your language file according to the first two letters of the language code and you shouldn't go too far wrong. If it's a majorly different name, just use a prefix, for example "sq - Albanian.txt" (I haven't tested it, don't complain if it doesn't work! ) should work, the only file that can't be renamed is English.txt but that's ok cos 'en' works
BTW, these two fixes took less than 5 minutes to implement this morning (I wanted to test till now) and they're rock solid. I'm not a great programmer!-But the code's broken down so much now that it really is simple to jump in and change bits without affecting the rest of the system too much.
If any of you are interested, I think 5.9.5 should introduce configurable view layouts. I've a couple of ideas on how to do it but either one relies on quite a major modification to the feed processors and if you don't want *total* control over what you see on the panels then it might actually be more work! Any thoughts on what you want in that area? Or if you've a way to get the job done, that's welcome too

i hard reset my mega and reinstall tritanium, but it does not appear on the screen. i check with chome editor, the panel not there. why?? before this (before hard reset) the weather only appear as ":25C " instead of "25C Mostly Cloudy" etc. this was on 2.9.3.1
there's an error when trying to connect to weatheronline, it says the comma is wrong position.

Excellent. You released the GSM port
I will let others know the following since I helped test:
- 3G data works and mine works even after a reboot (no manual switching on of data required.)
- currently only 3G working, not HSDPA
- WIFI working good and no connection dropouts so far
- wallpapers do scroll for me depending on the wallpaper chosen
- IMPORTANT: after installing apps, Permissions Manager will popup asking if you trust the app. Do NOT do anything here or you will run into issues with FC's. I.e. you will get the following errors: "Unfortunately, Permissions Manager has stopped." and "Unfortunately, the process com.android.phone has stopped." Ultimately the phone will be renedered useless because the errors will keep popping up and you wont be able to connect to your cell network.. requiring a reflash

Go to Settings> More.. (under wireless and networks) > Mobile Networks > Access Point Names.. in here, press the Context Menu soft key then choose 'New APN'

Actually HSDPA works, it's just that the icon is stuck at 3G.
If you download a file you will see speeds that is far better than what 3G is capable off.

Yeah it's definitely an isue with the icon showing 3g.

This is very good news! I'm a big MIUI rom fan (used it on my htc desire).
An update on feedback after testing for a day.. everything is very fluid and working great for an alpha build. However, battery seems to drain VERY fast. Only been an hour from full charge but I'm already down to 60%. Not quite sure what the issue could be because the battery doesn't drain as quick on the AOKP/CM9 builds of ICS. Hopefully it is diagnosed soon.

I am not lucky. I downloaded both CDMA versions and they get the "No Service" status. Why would that be?
