Can't copy from gtalk? - Hero, G2 Touch Q&A, Help & Troubleshooting

Hey all, I already asked this in an older but related thread, and received no replies, so I'm hoping the more specific topic here will help.
Why can we not copy from received gtalk messages? Isn't part of the point of a smart phone that we can copy say, an address someone sends us into google maps? Or a phone number?
This is the one major area of android that I believe is lacking behind WinMo. Is there an app that will allow me to copy from a gtalk message, or some system setting i can change with root?
Thanks all,
- JustPyro

Same with the gmail app - its a big gap in functionality as far as I'm concerned.
You need to call someone who has their phone number in their email sig - you have to write it on your hand and then dial the number
I know, I had to do it the other day

[Q] Gingerbread Contacts In TM Issue

I apologize if this issue is somewhere in this forum. I've been searching for the better part of an hour and I haven't found anything close, to the issue that I'm having.
Problem: when I send a text message to multiple contacts, for some reason, all of the phone numbers for people in the list, show up as part of the phone number, for the last person on the list from that point forward. For example, suppose that I send a tm to Joe, Mary and Sam. Their phone numbers are 222-222-2222, 333-333-3333 and 999-999-9999, respectively. When I get a reply from Sam (who's the last person on my list of recipients), the msg shows up as being from "222-222-2222;333-333-3333;+1999-999-9999". Note that the +1 has been added only to the last number.
The first time that this happened, I had to delete the contact record for the last person on the list (Sam in this example), turn off the device, restart and manually enter a new contact record. Now that process doesn't work.
Any help would be greatly appreciated.
bump to the top in hopes that someone has an idea as to what's doing this.

[Q] Does CM9 for SGII use the same Samsung contacts "engine" as 2.3.4?

Samsung Galaxy 2 has an AWFUL design in the contacts system.
If my friend Bill calls me and I go to save his new phone number into an existing contact, the phone lists ALL 1200 Google contacts "All Contacts" - it's awful design and stupid.
I've discussed this previously in a thread here (some people didn't initially understand my point)
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1241425
Also when I go to send a new SMS from the Messaging tool on the stock Galaxy 2, when I type in a partial name it resolves email address's as well. Why on EARTH would I want to "SMS" an email address? It's such awful terrible, stupid design and I find it frustrating.
Does the CM9 builds for the SGII continue to do this or do they use a different contacts / messaging engine which doesn't have this poor design?
Anyone know the answer (or even understand what I'm getting at?)
Appreciate it.
Anyone? I need to decide to u/g or not
I think, the idea behind listing all accounts is:
1. You may add a new number to an already existing e-mail account, you have in your list.
2. The SMS app isn't seen as SMS only, but as an overall message app. So you can write a "message" either to a number or an e-mail.
Glad that I could help.

1:
I don't want to add a number to an existing EMAIL account I want to add it to a list of "My Contacts" NOT "All Contacts" - this is the way other Android devices work and it's utterly terrible design by Samsung.
2: The SMS app sucks then, can I replace it entirely? If so, any suggestions?
FWIW, to replace both stock sms and contacts I have tried Contapps and Deja Office.
Hope it helps

[Q] How to dial number/pause/pin from email?

Have searched and couldn't find anything. Often when driving I need to join a conference call that has the 800 number and pin. The email contains the standard blackberry/smartphone direct dial strings [18001111111p1234/18001111111x1234/18001111111,1234] and on my old blackberry and my co-workers iphones they could simply be tapped to dial the full string. I have found that with various Android devices you simply can't do this. I have tried sending an email to myself with 18001111111,1234 in the subject and body but it only highlights and dials the first or second set of numbers on tap. If I copy and paste the full string to the dialer it works as it should but doing this while driving is not possible.
Apparently the tel:18001111111,1234 tag is supposed to work but that is only on webpages so that won't help me out. With all the power behind android and the want to get them into corporate hands more, I'm surprised this has been overlooked?
Anyone out there know? I've tried stock email, gmail and touchdown and none work.
Thanks in advance.

[Q] LGphone.apk Google Voice integration

Hi all, sorry for the new guy question (at least that's what I think it is):
Problem Statement - I have my phone set up to make all calls through google voice. This works fine. However, the phone.apk and thus the call log always shows the google voice routing number as opposed to the person I am actually calling.
Review - I have done some searching and it appears this is the same thing on, at least, some other devices (SIII for one). I have not found any way to "fix" this, however, and am reaching out here. It may be an LG thing or an ICS thing or no thing at all.
Solutions:
Question 1 - does anyone know if there is any solution to this?
Question 2 - in doing some looking around it seems that the best approach might be to try a different phone.apk. The best approach I have seen, but have not yet tried, is to download the stock ICS phone.apk from here: http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1735507 or something. change permissions to rw-rw-rw- and copy into system/app . will this work? What is in there now is LGphone.apk, do I have to change the name of phone.apk to LGphone.apk?
Thanks in advance for any consideration of this.
Best Regards,
Dave
I'd like to find a resolution to this issue as well. it's rather frustrating. and no, i will not be adding the Google Relay# to my contact list as a workaround. i just want the call log to report the contact i called..
Anyone find a solution yet?
I figure once the AOSP 4.2 roms have their camera and GPS issues sorted out, I won't be bothered by this issue any more.

GV outbound call log repair
The only way I found was to install this app called GV Outbound Call Log Repair. I've tested it and it does work. This app seems to periodically wake up, contact GV and replace the number in the call log with GV call log number.

Thanks for sharing. I just bought it and it's working great so far. The only concern I have is that it syncs your call log every 30 seconds which seems like a battery drain. I wish you could set how often it syncs. At any rate any fix is better than none :good:

Contact number issue!

After trying to find an answer to this for months I decided to make a post. After converting my contacts from my old Windows Mobile Phone to a Note 3 I have exactly one contact with an issue. The issue is only in the text thread and is a problem when I try to send a text to the contact from the preexisting thread. The contact number at the top of the screen (below the name) has a letter in front of the number for some reason. The letter is not present if I go into the contact or if I export the address book to a spreadsheet through Gmail or Microsoft Live. I tried deleting the contact from Gmail and Live to see if it will start a new thread or fix the error, but it does not. The issue is not present when I create a new text to send to the contact so long as I am not doing it from the preexisting thread, but then everything ends up in the preexisting thread instead of a new thread.
Hopefully someone here can walk me through a backdoor way of editing a text thread to fix this issue with the random letter in front of the contact's number so I can have regular text conversations with this contact without deleting the entire thread and message history.
Is there a moderator able to help guide me in the right direction if this should be posted somewhere else?
Help!
I really could use some advice on this matter as I am yet to find a solution.
