Everyday apps missing?

I just got my Flyer yesterday, and so far It's AMAZING! I'm noticing that some of the everyday apps like Google Voice, Xfinity, and Qik aren't available in the market. Is there anything else you guys are missing, and has anyone heard why? I never tried Qik on my galaxy tab, but Xfinity and Google Voice both worked flawlessly.
Edit, just noticed a duplicate thread, apologies mods, please feel free to delete
Sent from my HTC Flyer P512 using XDA Premium App
SwitchPro Widget is missing for me. A bit annoying, since its one of my default widgets on my phone. And I see no reason why it wouldn't work on the Flyer, other widgets seem to work just fine.
I assume the reason certain apps don't show up on the Market, is that the developer is not supporting our device. Either intentionally, or just haven't gotten around to adding our device to the "list".
I wanted to try GO Launcher EX (my usual launcher on Tab and other Android devices), but found it to be missing from Market.

Why apps unavailable?

Why are a ton of Android Apps "not compatible with this device"? it's so annoying...
Is there a way they can be "compatible"
Your options:
1. Install on another device, push the apk to your tablet via email
2. Use a hacked market app (if there is one for the flyer) to download any app
3. Change the preferences file on your Flyer so that market thinks you have a different device (hard mode from #2)

What version of the Market App, would this be? Sorry, I'm new to the HTC Flyer. I just bought it last Friday.
--Thanks
Try Amazon App market for android or Aptoid, they are a bit more flexible on some apps, but you won't find all apps there.
Sometime certain apps are made for certain devices or certain resolutions. The android market being that we run android 2.3. It thinks we have an oversize phone and some apps aren't able to pan out or zoom to a certain factor to where it will take up all of our screen estate. some apps i tried that work on my phone on 2.3 look pixelated and low in detail on my tablet because was mad for a less resolution. Or its just simply not for our device. Just install apps you have on your android and see how they look to you and see if they work. Just takes trial and error.
I've side loaded all the apps that I need/want and so far so good.
I have had the same issue with some apps, I had them on my Galaxy Tab, but not for my Evo view. The cool thing is ASTRO Manager now has a backup in the newest update. If you have another android device, like I have the Evo 3D, so I take the app on there, back it up and from there you can share it via email or bluetooth. I did it last nite to put Handcent and a few others on my View.
Installing HC will fix the problem with "small screens" in apps... but will break other apps - gameloft games and some that are intended to be run @ the original screen ratio

[Q] Where to install 3rd party keyboards so they stick on reboot?

I use swiftkey, but I know it's an issue with ICS, that any 3rd party keyboard does not stick upon reboot because: "The issue is that Google Play installs paid apps in a particular location on your phone and that in some versions of Android (particularly 4.1 on Samsung devices) this location is not available at the point in the boot process where keyboards are being switched on. So your phone does not know that you have SwiftKey, and it defaults back to the phone’s keyboard.
We are unable to control where Google Play installs the app, and also unable to do anything about the way in which your phone boots up, so we are essentially powerless."
So, with that being said, if you have root, where would you want to install the keyboard to, because I just tried system/app and it still didn't stick upon reboot.
Forcing sticky settings
I ran into this exact problem trying to use a 3rd party spell checker on my Nexus 10 running Android 4.2.2 in a mostly stock environment
(Nova launcher, Lookout Premium security & privacy app)..... Long explanation follows of what I tried, skip to ¶ for the solution.
WARNING: THIS COULD HOSE YOUR PHONE SO USER BEWARE!!
After uninstalling almost everything I had downloaded, except the spell checker, I still couldn't get the setting to stick.
So, I started disabling Android apps like the dictionary provider & user dictionary apps. Still no sticky setting.
I finally downloaded a 3rd party keyboard app to replace the Android keyboard - AI-type is the app name & it's free - but while the setting
for the new keyboard stuck, the spell checker setting still didn't.
¶ I noticed that the Android keyboard app was running even though the alternate was working. So, I disabled the Android keyboard app itself. Voila!!
The spell checker setting finally stuck! It appears that even though I had selected an alternative keyboard, the Android keyboard app still runs & resets
whatever it pleases back to the default, regardless what the user did to the settings.
I would suggest you trying the same thing: disable the Android keyboard app, after sitting the input device to your 3rd party
keyboard. Hopefully, that forces Android to go directly to the alternate keyboard.
You may want to make sure the voice input stuff works, in case Android really can't find your keyboard app. Otherwise,
you're totally hosed without an Android input device.
I hope that works.... but please don't come after me if my suggestion hoses your phone.
Caveat emptor & all that; I am still a junior member of this forum. Even though I have ~30yrs experience as software engineer,
I know little about the Android guts. I'm learning, though.

Uninstall stock keyboard?

I've read a lot about this but not found a definitive answer. I have three choices in Language and Input - Samsung Keyboard, Google Voice typing and Swype. I only want to use Swype. I can untick Google Voice but Samsung Keyboard is greyed out, so every time I type something I get the Choose Input Method (offering me Samsung or Swype) notification. I'm trying to get rid of this because it's annoying and makes Swype open slower.
I tried freezing Samsung keyboard and there were no problems, but maybe there could be in the future so I am unsure about uninstalling it. I can't disable it in APplication Settings, although I guess this is the same as freezing it. I thought though, could I make the Samsung keyboard a
user app, and would that enable it to be unticked? So then I wouldn't get the notification but the app would still be there if I needed it.
Or if I uninstalled the Samsung Keyboard and installed, say Google Keyboard as a backup, would this be okay? If I've installed it myself I should then be able to untick it in Language and Input. I'm currently thinking I might try this.
Or is it safe to uninstall the Samsung keyboard? I used to use PIN screenlock but now use pattern, so that shouldn't be a problem. I can't think of any other situations that would require stock keyboard. I'm on stock 4.1.2 and am rooted. I know this is a long post but just wanted to get as much detail in!
tl;dr: Is it safe to remove the stock keyboard?

did you try this language and input default and select witch keyboard you want to use
I uninstall stock keyboard all the time and replace it with SwiftKey. I use Titanium Backup to find the app and uninstall it.
I have yet to face any problems, I have no backup of any keyboard, just SwiftKey installed. Well, I don't believe I uninstalled Google Voice typing, but it can be unchecked.
I'm sure there is a way to get rid of stock Samsung. To be safe make a Name I guess.

Yep, I've set Swype as default but I still get the Choose Input Method notification.
I froze stock Samsung keyboard and there didn't appear to be any problems, but I thought I'd check on here. I'll try backing up and uninstalling it with Titanium. A keyboard is a keyboard is a keyboard, so there shouldn't be any problems I would think. Like you say Mr 309041291a, you've never had a problem. I can't think of any situations that would need stock keyboard (maybe PIN/pw lockscreen - if that even uses it?). But I use pattern so shouldn't be a problem.
Thanks for the replies.

[Q] Disabling everything but music

Hello!
I have this horribly cheap china android phone (it's supposed to be a GalaxyS4 mini - replica, but it looks nothing like it) and I bought it for one single purpose: To have it stolen in case of need. Yeah. At nights when the city over here becomes very very insecure, I keep my main phone hidden, while I bring out my chinaphone to listen to music and to connect to facebook chat (the stand alone app) by connecting to the "Portable wifi hotspot" I activate in my main cellphone.
The thing is, the chinaphone its a piece of crap (it has 256 MB of RAM under android 4.1.2) and while it works fine after it has been rebooted, it tends to go slower and slower, to a point where it does absolutely nothing. I managed to somehow root it (it was a pain, since the rooting tools were in chinese and so is the root app) and I have installed a couple things to "enhance it" which is basically removing the bloatware they put in to make it look like a galaxy s4, live wallpapers and whatnot. And I installed another launcher, Nemus launcher, which is supposed to be one of the most lightweight.
So anyway. I was wondering what "apps" can I safely delete or disable to have a bare-bones device that can connect via wifi, open facebook messenger and play music. Maybe instead of asking what can I delete, I should ask: What should I keep?
Well, I assume you will be using Titanium Backup to remove the applications? Do you have a list you can provide here of the apps that you have?
By the way, while sad that I think it is you have a "in case of robbery phone," I also think that that is an awesome idea ha. Where I live it's not necessary, but i'll keep this idea in mind in case I have to move.
Thank you. Yeah. I have to think ahead of eventualities. I have been robbed before and I sure dont want to lose my current phone, that's why I invested in this piece of hardware that "looks" like it could be my phone, while it's waaaay cheaper.
Anyway. As for apps, here's the list that android reports under apps->all

Advanced task manager pro (i use it to kill everything in emergencies when it all goes crazy slow)
Android Keyboard
Android System

Im using swiftkey as I love that thing and the whole "Flow input" is great for this phone, considering it is not multitouch, It's "single touch" and if I try to type with the thumbs as in my real phone, it ends all garbled because I type rather fast, and i press keys at the same time; this translated in a single touch device, when I press by accident two keys at the same time, it finds the middle point between my fingers and uses the letter in there, which is really annoying. And typing slow is... well, frustrating for me. With the flow thing, i just swipe and the words come out nicely thanks to the prediction. Problem is, that it also seems to slow down the system to a crawl very very quickly
Any other keyboard that has this function so I can try it?
Does anyone has any experience with Lightning launcher? It claims to be ultra fast, but Im not sure that means it's lightweight with the resources.
You only use this phone for music right? I would remove the launchers and swiftkey, if so.
Or do you use it for more?
