[Q] Quick questions before Flashing - HD2 Windows Mobile 6.5 Q&A, Help & Troubleshooting

Hi,
I'm going to flash today but have a few quick questions/suggestions first:
1. I note you can flash back to a stock rom, however I can't seem to see the vodafone stock rom, can I back my own up first? (someone asked here as well but i thought it's a thread of it's own to do this) http://forum.xda-developers.com/showpost.php?p=5316142&postcount=101. (A tool to backup rom and flash the SPL back would be cool).
2. Has anyone whose flashed a cooked rom had any radio/sms issues since (especially the 2.0x roms) on voda uk?
3. In http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=610548 it would be cool if the radio/real rom ver was noted in the link as well (v.cool thread!)
4. A stability/speed rating system poll on roms would be good?
5. Know HTC issues and if the rom fixes them would be pretty cool
6. Are other HSPL for SPL versions in development (I'm lucky got the right one).

I'll try to answer most ofyour questions
1. does vodafone not have a stock rom on their site? you are most likely to find it there
2. I have had issues with flashed roms but that is the fun. just flash an other then. they are all different, with more or less functionality and visuals. read the rom thread of the rom that you want to flash. the problems will be discussed there
3. Each seperate rom thread notes the rom version, sense version and radio when included. so check the specific rom thread for this.
4. speed rating system is available. this is done by pietrucci look here
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=582700
comments about the stability you will find in the specific rom thread and varies with the version brought out. some cooks release several roms a day. i think a poll only for stability is somewhat difficult when there are so many releases
5. most rom thread tell you the fixes they have applied.
6. have not read that yet. cmonex was also developing hspl but I dont know if this has stopped.

Haha point taken, I use mine in a business so stability is the key for me.

Seen that already, I was refering to "sms bug/camera" ones etc, I imagine most cooks would do these ones anyway.

They might need access to the other SPL was more just out of interest.

first time help

can someone point me to the thread, if there is one that would have a step by step explanation of whats needed, or what do do to upgrade the verizon 6800, im pretty technically competent, but this is the first time playing around with a smartphone. list of files, and what other things are needed and what exactly to do with them...
Thanks
I was just thinking the same thing, with the un-locker, and seperate radios needed, I'm just hoping I can find a contiguous thread that I can start with.
I know the feeling. I remember the first time I did a flash on my phone. It was the Apache. After a few tries you will be a pro.
I think the following thread is the best you will see. Has links to the unlocker, the radio and a rom.
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=362563
Next is the current ROM I am using. GPS works awesome with it. Its also preloaded with all the apps I need.
http://forum.ppcgeeks.com/showthread.php?t=17535
i read a few things about making sure you have the right, new versions of all the stuff...if i have things right, for a verizon phone, is there a quick step by step checklist of what to do in what order? was there a specific post on that thread u were pointing us too? or do i need to read through all 13 pages?
thanks for your help

Enjoy!
thanks alot...just to clarify, code means the radio? so if im using radio 3.27, relocking isnt an issue? im going from the verizon rom it comes with, if you post again, also, is there one place that has links to all this software?

I have included links to all the software. For the roms, I have included a link to DCDs rom.
Let me know how it goes.

[GUIDE] How to Flash a Custom ROM

I know its something fairly simple, but for the newbies out there, here's a simple walkthrough I made for how to flash a custom ROM on your Android phone. If there are any improvements I can make, let me know How to Flash a Custom ROM on Android
Benefits of Flashing a Custom ROM
While you’ll end up seeing a lot of benefits from custom ROMs, they all probably fall under 3 main areas:
Better Performance – You’ll be able to overclock Android or even see it built in with the ROM as well as see overall performance increases from various tweaks
Better Battery Life – One of the first things people do when rooting is remove stock apps. Don’t know how? Most developers have the apps already removed in their ROMs. Additionally, various system tweaks and improved kernels, as well as undervolting Android help to drastically improve Android battery life.
Better Overall Experience – Try other versions of Android such as those found on other phones that have been ported to yours; stay up to date with updates and new features; try out different Android themes, etc.
All in all, there are a LOT of benefits you’ll get from using a custom ROM on Android, so wait no more, here’s How to Flash a Custom ROM on Android.
Basic Steps
Choose the ROM that you want and download its .zip file
Transfer the zip file to your phone's sd card. Do not put it into any folder.
Turn off your phone and reboot into recovery, usually by holding the down button and power button at the same time.
Do a Nandroid backup
Wipe the phone by clear cache/factory restore and wiping dalvik cache
Flash the zip file that you put on your sd card
Reboot phone
all this info doesn't help a thing if you don't have a rooted phone and a custom recovery. Not very usefull How to..

I have to agree. While OP's heart is in the right place, a real noob will just get confused by this because there are A LOT of steps missing from the process.
I would recommend that noobs go here instead:

This has everything a noob needs to get started off right.
Ops heart isn't in the right place, op is trying to get paid lol.

Thats kind of harsh. Do you really think this isn't useful? You mean you never didn't know how to flash a custom ROM? Impressive.
In my guide, I specifically outline that you must be rooted.

If you looked at the wiki, you'd notice that its just a short list of written steps. This is a video walkthrough. Just something a little more for users who are confused.
I was just trying to help guys.
Great, everyone was a noob once.. Your post is great, but might just confuse the users, imagine everyone starting a new post about flashing ROM cos the other person missed some points. Best in you add to the wiki, then new users would just refer to one guide..

[Q] Change to a diff. ROM

Hello Everyone
This is a simple question for many of you, but not for me, I already know how to Root http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1331784
(thanks to CF-Root)
and how to install a Rom. But,what about how to change to a different ROM.
Now I'm using
Base band - I9100UMKK1
Kernel - [email protected] #20
Build - VillainROM 3.0
(I'm using this one, cuz I found a very descriptive tuto about this, for my GS2)
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1198334
But What if I want to change my ROM, What are the main points to check the compatibility with my device
PDA?
Base band?
It is neccessary change the Kernel?
I would like to taste the flavor of ICS
Note: I don't want to be annoying, including all my phone data, but as a new android user, is my reference for search info.
Heya Mate,
I just posted pretty much the same question, however, after skipping 1 thread repeatedly because it was labelled SGS2 Bell/Virgin Canadian Thread Q&A (Root/Unlock/Firmware) Modems/Mods I found more info in there than I have by searching!
Right under our noses huh?
Still a little confused, but also a lot clearer

I wouldnt go for the ICS roms yet, there unstable and can cause problems with your phone if you dont know what you are doing.
Kernel/Rom version should match if you are using stock roms, otherwise custom roms will normally come with a recommended kernel.
As far as the baseband, you can mix/match, so just find one that works for you, or leave it as it is if its working fine, you dont need to match the version to your rom or kernel.
To flash a new rom, find one you like and follow the howto in the thread, but it will be very much like flashing villanrom.
Make sure to take backups using nandroid (to go back to an old rom) and titanium (user apps) sms backup+ (app i recommend to backup sms/call log/mms) as you will need to wipe data (thats user apps/sms/contacts not media/photos/etc) when you move from rom to rom.

Try the KI3 version, the VRtheme (aka Universal) version was a bit new at that point.
Unfortunately due to framework changes the newer versions dont run on VR.

[General questions] Please awnser :)

Dear XDA'ers,
I was wondering how i can (kind of) format my Samsung galaxy S2 Completely and install a new custom rom on it. Every time i install a new rom and do cache wipe and user data wipe in CMW then it does not make it clean how i want it to be. I want a COMPLETELY format for my device. How do i do this and any guides available on how to do this?
I also was wondering if the official ICS V4.0 is already released for the samsung galaxy s2? Any link? Or are there good alternatives for it at the moment?
I also have a question about the battery life, are there any apps/roms or settings for it to make it last longer?
I hope you guys can help me out a bit. Thanks in advice!
Greetings,
Xanji

http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1451346

Excuse me??!!
There are no official ICS ROMS for the SGS2, buggy or not.
Don't post misleading - i.e., wrong - information.
OP, I'd advise you not to try any ICS ROM. You're new, and you'd be better trying a 2.3.6 ROM instead, honestly.
Search the threads, there are many good alternatives.
^^
+32 this. Excellent advice from my most learned colleague B3311. Please steer clear of any of the ICS builds out at the moment, a disaster just waiting to happen IMHO.
So far as battery life & different roms go, you are only going to find this out by trying different roms for yourself. You will not have the same experience with a rom as anyone else on here (different phone setup, different usage, phone differs slightly component wise).
There are no shortcuts. If you don't wish to do the research yourself, do everyone else on here and yourself a big favour and keep your phone stock. Regardless of what anyone on here might tell you, the phone is fantastic on stock firmware (tho obviously you can make it even more fantastic by running non-stock firmware if you're prepared to do the hard yards).

[Q] ROM and Kernel for my friends phone

I need to flash a new rom to my friends phone. He will give me the phone for one night, so I don't have time to experiment. Could you guys recommend me a rom and possibly a kernel? He won't flash his phone much, so I need a rom and a kernel that will stay speedy and stable for a long time. I'm considering flashing CM10.2's latest nightlies and it will be the best if I don't need to change it's kernel so he would be able to update the rom in the settings. But maybe there is a better kernel for it, or a better rom, instead of CM. He prefers the rom to look like AOSP, not touchwiz.
P.S. As I said he won't flash often as I do, so he needs the rom/kernel to stay stable and speedy for a year or so.

I'm not asking this for my own device that I have a lot of time to experiment. I do that on my Galaxy Nexus. I don't see why they would close it. If hey delete it after I get an answer, that I understand.
These threads are not allowed because it's all subjective. If you ask 100 dudes who the hottest girl is in the world, you will get 100 different answers. Makes sense when it's put like that huh? Thread Closed
