this its for the best developers! a new challenge! - TG01 General

ok. We now have a space for us. for TG01.
what we help it if you actually do not see any change.
or just want to point out the fact that HTC has the support, and Toshiba not.
to change that, collect some money, and supports rom development, those who change the balance in our favor.
lets see a new device

Very good idea!

Peanut Gallery - Thoughts & Pole on GPS Hacking thread

Just a new thread so we don't spam the tech crew working on the GPS thread as it is growing at great speed, and spam is entering...
Discuss anything you want re GPS hacking, how cool it would to stick this up HTC's rear! LOL
Last time they include a chipset with disabled software!
So, hopefully in a month or so, we should see cooked WM6 roms for our hermes, and GPS enabled in them as well...
All i'll say then is it would simply be the best device, by a massive margin on the market!
Im in for finacially rewarding the person that gets a good working hack for the GPS or a cooked rom!
Keep up the excellent work guys! for what iits worth, its made me take up a C++ programming course, hate feeling left out and not able to help!!
crossbow and internal GPS on the hermes, that will be nice.....
excellent work so far.
Wouldnt a financial reward hinder the progress on the GPS ?, If the people working on it took the prize money challenge, they would start to keep all their progress to themselves and not share it with anyone else in case it helped someone else win the prize money ?
I'm happy to pay for the efforts of the people that are working on this project if thats what is needed to get it working, but i think this idea would be counter productive to everything that has happened so far ?
I help lots of local people with free computer setup and training and wireless network problems, but i never expect to be paid for them, i simply enjoy helping local people out, and i'm sure the people working on this gps project would be the same
This is the effort of quite a few guys.. not a race. I appreciate everybody's effort, and think that if there's a collection taken, it should be divided up however they see fit.
I'm up for more than $8, btw (how much is a standalone gps people?). And I would hope that our pooled $$ would help pay for some of the time and risk that a lot of people are making.
I would tend to concur with Mosser. XDA developers is about a community working together to enhance HTC devices. Offering a prize tends to take away from the teamwork since everybody is looking at the $$$. What you see in the GPS thread is the best of this community taking chances and putting everything they've got into a common goal. GPS is the prize here.
If you want to help, don't offer money, rather grab yourself a copy of the dumped Trinity Registry from post 390 (what we know applies to GPS is in post 108) of the "ideas thread" and start looking for a device that may have a connection to something named "VIRSER_COM". It's painstaking work going through the registry line by line but numbers make the job easier....
Hardware hack enthusiasts can start googling for a chip pinout (these show what each pin does and its location on the chip) for the Qualcomm RFR6250
Here's another thought:
Developers can simply place a "paypal donations" button into their sig if they'd like to see a few euros sent their way. If people appreciate the work, they can follow the link and donate. That way, teamwork remains the top priority.
Of course, you can always donate to XDA-developers too we can use all the help we can get!

I appreciate this is very basic and doesn't list pin numbers but better than nothing to start with.
Edit: found roughly the same thing again but this time it shows the interconnections with other chips (the JPG). If the the pcb traces can be identified and followed back it may be possible to determine pinout.
yeah, I've gotten that far myself. We need the actual Qualcomm datasheet on this chip, I believe, to get the pinouts. I'm gonna go and email their customer service dept. I think and pretend to be some big-shot engineer or something....

[Q] TG01 - what do you do with it?

After seeing a few new threads start up recently, it was interesting to see how different users have explored the boundaries of TG01 and got the maximum out of it!
I was surprised at certain things this mighty beast can do! I am opening this thread with a hope that we will get more input from TG01 users in terms of what can be done using TG01! May be other users like me will benefit now and in future by knowing that there is no limit to surprises TG01 brings
So question is simple with simplers answers:
What do you use your TG01 MOSTLY for? Please vote for the options and if I have missed out something as 'the most common' act on TG01, then feel free to add comments!
Please can I also request anyone who does something different with their TG01, to post links so that other users could try it and share their views too?
PS: Keep this thread fun but full of information!
Please ADD this to your signature and brag how cool your phone is!!
TELL THE WORLD WHAT DO YOU DO WITH YOUR TG01 please VOTE!
*bump*
37 views and only 1 vote!! come on guys, share how good your phone is!
i have already voted nice thread!
Reading, of course!
One of the thing that every day I do with my TG1 is...reading. I've already read a lot of e-books anywhere..if I'm waiting, on a cue...my book is ready to keep on reading from the last paragraph that I read the previous time.
I had installed an app called µBook, but few days ago I discovered Freda, an free EPUB (and other formats) reader that suits perfectly in our TG01
You can download the last version from http://www.freewarepocketpc.net/ppc-download-freda.html
Good thread!

I love e-books myself, but I couldn't read them on TG01 as I always thought you end up buying and spending lots (I tried B&N) - I am downloading the one you suggesting, it might make me the most happiest and complete TG01 owner ever!
If you know any more TG01 owners, please ask them to come forward and share more so that we get more out of this beast
Thanks

I was a bit unsure if mods would like it !
Mate, if you know more TG01 users on the forum, please ask them to vote and share so that we get more out of TG01 from everyone's experience. This might even reveal what sort of tasks are best performed on TG01
It's really good to see from the votes so far that, Browsing on TG01 is what is done mostly!
Considering the complaints of battery drain and crappy IE that comes with TG01, I am sure most of us have ended up using faster browsers and better batteries!
Anything worth sharing to have better browsing experience on TG01 guys?
I do something more than this! (please post a comment and share)
Yes it help me to progress with ROM dev and in english ... of course !!!
Good thread man !

Thanks a lot
It is getting more useful and informative as we get more votes!
Already we know that it works as a great device to browse! So many people use it for browsing..
and many votes for 'I use it for something else' too, but only 2 users mentioned some useful info for us. I wish we will have more ideas for tg01
Most of us still use it for browsing - inspite of claims of bad battery life!
I think it's because of amazing speeds we get with Snapdragon?!
I presume we use Opera/SkyFire/IE - any other browsers you think can work better on TG01?
Hello Everyone!
I am writing this post in most of my threads so that everyone is well informed. I am not sure if you will get annoyed to see the identical post in more than 1 thread. The only reason being, I want everyone who visits particular thread to know that I am going to be a rare visitor on TG01 forums from now.
As you might all know, I went on 3 weeks holiday (it was AWESOME!) only to find out that Orange had sent me a letter confirming that I should F***O** and they won’t be interested in either paying repair costs/ offering replacement handset/ offer any sort of money back for the malfunctioning TG01(s) (6 replacements to be precise) they have supplied me since January 2011! Since last 5 months, I wasn’t able to develop or help with roms/themes as I din’t trust my phone’s behaviour (it froze randomly making hard to know if it’s rom/theme doing it or actual phone). However, I have tried my best to help out in forum and also with beta tests.
My TG01 is now officially in coma. It doesn’t last more than 5 minutes without restarting. This has annoyed the piss out of me and I was helpless financially. However, I have managed to sell this TG01 for spare along with few old WinMos and Symbian phone to get me enough money to buy a brand new San Francisco (the cheapest option out there for smart phone at the moment!)
So, to keep the story short, all these threads, might not see any help at all from me in terms of development. I will still be willing to help anyone and everyone (whatever can be done without a TG01). If anyone would want to use any of my work so far – please feel free to PM me and I will happily share ROMs/THEMES/files etc that will help you to carry on the projects further.
It’s been absolute charm being a part of this forum and will miss it! I will be around in San Francisco forums anyway, so drop me a PM if you ever think of me
Long live TG01 and WinMos
(already saving up to buy new WP7!)
EVC4 Development System
I use the TG01 as a software development platform for a GPS application - see http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1117192
I'm still using EVC4 as it's simple, effective and free. More modern tools are too complicated for my simple mind, and seem to produce enormous slow applications.
I had to produce my own SDK using Platform Builder, but now find this works on most ARM devices; although it grizzles a bit, it gives full source-level debugging. It does mean I have to use XP for development - has anyone got EVC4 to run under Vista or Win7?
I like the TG01 as it's fast and has a big screen. I think it's virtually unusable as a mobile phone.

Android Use Handout

Hello fellow Android users! I need your help, I'll explain. I work at Best Buy with the Mobile department. We sell phones from all the carriers and in an effort to help out our customers better understand their phones I was thinking about making an Android phone handout for them to take home with them after their purchase.
Since Best Buy sells all the carriers, there are going to be differences between carriers and also manufacturers with the alterations they implement in the Android operating system.
So what I was hoping to get from the community were ideas about the basics of Android that spanned across carrier and manufacturer.
So for example, I've thought of explaining the notification bar. I can put some screen shots and quick details about its uses. Also I wanted to maybe give some help internet links, I thought of market.android.com for the market online.
What else can you guys give me to put on this handout. I'll probably try to keep it to about a page worth of material - probably front and back.
I just need the basics, please help me to brainstorm!
I have a guide specific to the vibrant/touchwiz, but some basic Android overlap. I'll try to type out out, but take a gander to my signature.
Long-press options & the menu key are huge.
Awesome Idea I'll give some ideas a whirl,
Also, I think a essential write up on the pros of I-phone vs Android And the cons. Because, for people to understand why Android is awesome we need to objectify the similarities and advantages of the Android based system. I-phone is perfect for people who just want an "out of the box experience" for example
Not exactly what you were talking about, but today I posted my top 20 apps for an android beginner, which could prove helpful.

Security question.

How would you know if someone cooked a back door into their ROM. A back door that would allow them to monitor a phone's contents remotely. A phone that's running their ROM of course.

Normally this can happen only with vendor's signed rom. Only vendors do this sometimes. Examples: Conflipper, 911sniper and recently some other guys. Vendor was naturally HTC.
They all uploaded a lot of official roms to the private host, HTC investigated the case, found the possible leak source and framed them leaking the rom with backdoor. Thus vendor got personal data and later ganged up on them threatening prosecution.
So if you want to be 100% sure that you have back-door-free rom - cook custom Because chiefs don't give a $hit about your personal data, vendor - does!
P.S. And of course:
Remember, just because you're paranoid that doesn't mean that everyone's not out to get you!
than use only the shipt roms from factory , i have used many custum roms and never a problem now i use dynamics 2.0 and he is perfect.
the only thing wath is sure in live is your bird and dead

I have just bought a new sports car based on money stolen from your phones. New flat to come. Please, wait a little more! Don't spread this information.

Now without irony.
Of course, you can never be sure. But:
1) XDA-developers is a community of enthusiasts. If we were to steal anything, we could do it long ago. But, in that case, any other developer can reveal the truth about ROM internals and totally ruin reputation of that developer.
While reputation is just an "integer" value stored somewhere in XDA databases and people's minds, maintaining good "karma" in internet is still much more useful IRL (I guess many devs here can confirm it).
It is a pure hobby for almost everyone. Most of us have work, studies, lots of other things to do.
2) Windows Phone isn't really interesting for majority of "evil" hackers. It is a niche platform currently. It is nearly impossible to earn donations or get money any other way on this platform via development. Thus, I am quite sure all developers still keeping this platform alive are real enthusiasts without any criminal thoughts in minds.
3) Low interest leads to small amount of developers, lack of manuals, etc. Even "evil hackers" have to learn _how_ to do harm on specific platform. WP7 unofficial development has a big entry barrier, effectively filtering even power users.
You can ask what are the reasons most of us still work on this platform? Each software engineer loves when his code _works_, and WP7 limitations is better in this case. Because relatively small amount of native code works "out of the box" - I mean, without hours in debugger, decompiler, eyes red due to display backlight, nights spent in code

Great comments all around. I'm not a paranoid person. But I couldn't help wondering. I have faith in the community all around, like you said. Accountability doesn't lead to deviousness, it leads to integrity. I've heard that the Android is the hacker phone of choice. Or maybe I was misled in my naivete'. One of the things that I noted in my toying with the xda apps, the root tools tell you to be careful about allowing all of your apps. It's big fun watching what you guys crank out. keep up the good work, and if there is threat out there- crank out some apps for it.:highfive:

Startup Business[flexible] game,service(any programmer)

Hello App developers!
Hello, my name is Tivone Wright, and two other friends and me are starting up a really amazing company. We are now in the beginning phase of starting this company, and the idea of this company is to be flexible. I am a 19 year old programmer/CEO (they agreed to allow me to become it). I will be running this business, and going to college at the same time. Some of you may ask yourself, "Uhm...is he serious? That is impossible for anyone to do." Well as it may seem it is impossible, it is not for me. I halted all college activities to pursue technology because I would literally give everything up for it. It is my one true love, and is why I am starting up my own business. Now, portfolio will depend if you are interested. "That does not make any sense what he just said." Well you see, the idea of this company is to be flexible (my workers will soon have to work at an establishment, but if not, then online work is just as good as physical work). As this company will become more mature in its pre-mature stage, you will understand the overall point of this company. For now, we (yes this company is a team effort and shines because of it) must build a base. We must create software that has not been created yet, and soon enough hardware too. I ask those who want to see the future, their creations, their ideas, the impossible unfold in front of their eyes to join my business. How will pay work? I will make it worth your wild. Programmers, I too am a programmer, so I will be working along side with my employees, my friends, and my team. CEO's make a lot of money, but I am willing to sacrifice some of my earnings to see my fellow friends happy. I want to see my dream flourish, and as you read this, I hope you do too. Now, the plan is to create on both Android, and (kills me to say this) IOS markets. We will strike both at similar games. Not only that, but unique and beautiful task apps. This company will also contribute to XDA atmosphere. That's right custom rom devs, a department for you too. Once my company hits the hardware mark, then we shall create smartphones that is by default rooted. If you are interested, then contact me through:
Facebook: Tivone Wright (search bar)
Twitter: @shryvone12
Email: [email protected]
Don't believe I am a programmer?
public class MySurfaceView extends SurfaceView implements SurfaceHolder.Callback{
//I'll keep this simple
private final Context context;
public MySurfaceView(Context context, Attrib attrib){
this.context = context;
SurfaceHolder holder = getHolder();
holder.addCallback(new Handler(){
 @override
public void messages(){
}
});
}
Now, I am need of in specific:
C/C#/C++ programmers
Java programmers(android base language)
HTML programmers(to build a website since this is going to be major)
Web designers(CSS programmers)
PhP programmers
Graphic Designers
Game Developers
Also the best part........Amateur - Master programmers.
Moderators I hope I did not break any rules while creating this thread, but if I did, do close this thread and give me some idea to where I should put a post like this(Thank you)
Sincerely,
(CEO)Tivone Chris Wright
Go for it man! Dont let anyone tell you that you can't do it! Especially when learning code, learning a computer language (especially by your self) makes you feel like you can achieve anything that you try hard enough for

Yup I have been learning languages by myself. I love it and I want to start an early career at it. My hope is that this business will pick up in a month with, or without help. I've struggled majority of my life and to be honest, a business in the technology field will be the only thing to make me happy. Are you a programmer?
Me too! I learned HTML and php a while back by my self, then started with java but never really did anything until recently I just back into programing and hopefully one day when I'm confident enough I'll join a team!
And I understand when you say that it will be the only think that will make you happy! The way I see it if you tough your self at a young age (like I did too xD) then something tells me you'll be motivated and dedicated enough to achieve greatness in this field
Oh yeah I picked marketing up by simply observing human transactions and thing of the fundamentals of marketing. Sir, since you are starting back, I would love to have you on my team. My friends and I would teach you everything, even on android.
Haha I love the offer I really do! Just the reason why I haven't been giving it my 100% is because of school! I have to finish writing up a few academic papers then I'll be focusing all my efforts on developing
You have my contact information. My business picks up and when you are ready, just email of Facebook chat me.
Will do! Thanks for the offer
Update(in case anyone thinks this is fake(ha)) my team now consist of eight members. Anyone else want to take advantage of this offer?
