Boost performance tips (All ROMS) -NEW updates 11/2/10 - HD2 Windows Mobile 6.5 Q&A, Help & Troubleshooting

Use at you own risk, but these have been fully tested on my handset without any issues. I do not post tips that I have not used for more than 24 hours.
Make a full backup before proceeding!
Remember to restart after registry modifications!
NOTICE TO ALL CHEFS
If you decide to integrate any or all of these tweaks into a ROM, please give me due credit.
------------------------------------------------------------------------
576Mb ROM USERS ONLY
Change:
HKLM/System/StorageManager/FATFS/CacheSize To: 65536
this tip enables a 32mb filesystem cache. it is unsuitable for 1.66 roms as will necessitate a hard reset.
Change:
HKLM/System/StorageManager/FATFS/EnableCache To: 1
this enables the filesystem cache (it may be set to 0 for disabled)
Change:
HKLM/System/StorageManager/Profiles/HDProfile/FATFS/EnableCacheWarm To: 1
Honestly, im not sure to the exact function of this, but it seems to make sense run smoother. Definately improves landscape album art scrolling.
ON the microsoft website its listed as a "pre-warming cache feature". It would seem to preload commonly used data, in a similar fashion to superfetch on a PC, perhaps.
Do not set this bit on WM6.5.x ROMs, this only works on 6.5 for some odd reason
Suitable for ALL ROMs
Change:
HKLM/System/GDI/GLYPHCACHE To: 524288 (change both keys in there)
This allows for much smoother font rendering, especially when scrolling
Change:
HKLM/System/StorageManager/Filters/fsreplxfilt/ReplStoreCacheSize To: 131072
This creates a filesystem 128k sector cache filter, improves data throughput from ROM to RAM (probably) and does seem to improve indexing response and file browsing.
EDIT: file explorer just loaded my "Windows" directory in half a second with this enabled , and the screen does not tear when scrolling the list either any more
****
Added 09/2/10
****
Change:
HKLM/Drivers/Display/VMMaxHeapSize To: 33554432
This changes the VideoMemory max heap from 16k to 32k
Change:
HKLM/Drivers/Display/Settings/SMI2 AllocSizeMB To: 32
Change:
HKLM/Software/HTC/HTCMenus/EnableVSync To: 0
This turns off VSync in sense, making it MUCH smoother. check out the speed of the weather animations now! see that they "judder" less!
****
Added 10/2/10
****
Updated
Change:
HKLM/Software/HTC/MemoryRequired_ByAP] To: 524288
Lets allow SENSE to have some room to breath, shall we?
Change:
HKLM/Software/HTC/HTCAlbum/Require_Activate_Memory To: 20480
makes for faster image loading in album
Change:
HKLM/System/GDI/Drivers/Bpp To: 24
Now this IS interesting. I dont know if its just me, but were HTC holding out on us display wise? Changing the BitsPerPixel (colourdepth) from 16 to 24bit, for some reason, whether the display is actually capable of true colour or not, not only MAKES THE SCREEN LOOK BETTER but its also FASTER
****
Added 11/2/10
****
Change:
HKLM/Software/HTC/HTCScroll/dist_to_pan to 20
HKLM/Software/HTC/HTCScrol/flickdown_threshold to 2000
HKLM/Software/HTC/HTCScrol/flickup_threshold to 2000
HKLM/Software/HTC/HTCScrol/friction to 14
HKLM/Software/HTC/HTCScrol/init_time_period to 1
HKLM/Software/HTC/HTCScrol/velocity_factor to 18000 <---Sorry, the old value of "18" was a typo!!!!!
HKLM/Software/HTC/Manila/HTCScroll.Enable tp 1
These re-enable HTC scroll mechanism (tip above is updated) and tweak it for shorter, but faster render distances. They make Sense scrolling as smooth as butter
Change:
HKLM/Software/HTC/TouchGL/FilterPixel_Range To: 30
Change:
HKLM/Software/HTC/TouchGL/FlickGestureDistance To: 10
Change:
HKLM/Software/HTC/TouchGL/GestureEnable To: 50
Change:
HKLM/Software/HTC/TouchGL/PinchDistance To: 50
These tweak HTC touch driver to change its behavoiur slightly, making gesture distanced much smaller and therefore mor sensitive, but lowering the sensitivity of the filter response, These have the effect of making gesture response much better but reducing the "wiggly screen" and "jumping" cursor to some extent.
****
i will update the list as i find more things
Enjoy
With thanks to all my error-correctors! without your eagle eyes most of these would be filled with mistakes, so thankyou!
to everyone else: please try to think "laterally" when looking for a key i have listed, im am quite dyslexic so i try my best to get them right, but REG keys are hard for me to write correctly
Thanks go to Mazzarin for the CABs
Remember, the MemTweaks CAB is only suitable for 576mb rom users
Scrolling tweak CAB removed due to an incorrect value (not mazzarin's fault) waiting for a new version, for now you will have to manually apply those

Somthing like this, maybe set with a lower value, is also present in BsB, but tank you for the input, and have fun digging for more tweaks!

BsB's setting sets it to 32kb. This sets it to 512kb. its not like we dont have enough ram.....

Feedback - just applied these tweaks (yes i'm on a 576 rom) now when i boot, it shows quietly brilliant splash screen, then booting splash screen, then whie screen then black screen then white screen then black screen then white screen then black screen then, , you get the idea, , hehe
Dont worry, not blaming, half an hour i'll have it restored, just a warning to those unfamiliar with registry tweaking.
I can only assume it's not compatible with something in this rom.

if it helps, i have had sucess with these on:
duttys: 1.4 and 1.6 (currently using duttys 1.6 and this makes it waaaaay fast )
AxLor
Leo_Lite
Eugenia
Xannytech
what you on?

Using SONE 1.33 by seatone, and more info - on the first reboot, when it got to the flashing black/white the hardware keys still worked, and i managed to shut down by pressing long red, then tap the screen roughly where the off button would be, but now after 4 failed reboot cycles it wont go past the booting splash screen.

perhaps it is to do with Wm 6.5.5? i see he uses rather new builds, perhaps that is a problem. all of the ROMS i have tested this on offer a 219xx build variant.
sorry to hear it mate. might be worth testing the glyph cache though, that should not cause you any issues (so far THAT works on all roms i have tried)

Re 6.5.x yea that could be it, ill have a tinker when i've re flashed
and hey, no worries. It will take me longer to charge it up enough for it to allow me to flash than it will to retore it, hehe. I don't have that much installed, and what i do use is in a cab store on the sd, data is on the card too, so no loss.

Confirmed on Dutty 1.4, works nice, though it is not easy to spot the difference since Dutty's rom is already fast

i do have some more, but im still testing them at the moment.
there are options for SD caching, but they behave oddly, im trying to work it out
Cheers Tryde

Confirmed to work on Merlion LEO V1.90 ROM with 2.07.51.05_2 Radio. Fast and stable. Thanks!

Its probably the EnableCacheWarm that kills the 6.5.x ROMs. The others seem to work fine. Ive not tried that setting i will admit, just in case it does kill it.

thanks for all your input so far guys. will post a couple more later today, and make some changes to first post. Its nice i think to give a little something back to the community. Perhaps some cookers should trial these and cook them into their ROMs?
watch this space

**NEW TWEAK ADDED BOTTOM OF FIRST POST**
should be ok on 6.5/6.5.x

Just tried it on XannyTech Pandora 1.4. All the tweaks worked, no hard resets.

Could you please tell us what the original registry settings are? Because i got problems with the panorama mode of my HTC HD2's camera. I want to reset to the original settings.
Thanks in advance.

the default settings depend on your original rom.
However, none of these settings affect the camera in any way

These settings certainly make a difference with general smoothness in Duttys 1.6

anyone willing to do a cab?

How about posting some screens for various applications?
right away sir
Thanks for posting the screens.
I guess it's a personal thing, but I prefer to view the device in 128dpi, with wktask, with a 3D glassy top and bottom bar, with both date and time on the taskbar of every screen, just to list some of the main things I would tailor.
Hey, whatever appeal to you, enjoy your device
U can always customize the view and 128dpi can be installed
i'm confused with your screenshots.
are simply qvga, non?

I love changing the color of my theme every now and then. One of the quickest ways of to use tweaks2k2. It gives you the 3d glassy look. Depending on my mood, I like to switch between blue, green, black, etc. Be very careful though when you use tweak2k2. Don't let it trigger any soft reset(always use stylus into the hole method) or else you may be stuck on primary splash and you'll be forced to hard reset.
thanx for the info and warning. i do too. currently running 192dpi, snapvue, and snavue tsk on my rom. will probably go back to setup u see in dual screenies when i get realvga cooked back into rom im currently running.
Does this rom contain the latest Opera? That's the only reason I see to upgrade to this. Font size looks like it does when you change the screen settings to a smaller font on the 'screen' menu. I assume you can change the pink theme with the windows standard.
some clarrification
the opera version is build 8.65(2627)
the rom is overall very fast
the text resolution is vga like and we can get rid of the cuteiii pink colour.
the ap3 dual rom is superior in many aspects but this rom is good for all those who want a clean rom without any addons.
hey powell can u please post a lite addition of your touch dual rom it would be great
perhaps I also forgot to mention that this rom solves the micro drive issue in ameo.
Powell can u please give add ons seperately.

Why not try out this Opera and see if you like it better?

Ok, ive begun testing this ROM Eaglesteve and here are my observations thus far:
Opera is identical to the others, although a nice resolution mod has been done with the url bar, making it smaller and neater than the versions seen in other ROMS. there is no immediate reference to 'opera' within the application in that it is referred to as 'web n walk' in the start menu, and the homepage is www.t-mobilefavourites.co.uk. for those wishing to use t-mobile's tv service this functionality is now restored for wm6.
on the whole i feel that the download and render time with this version of Opera is the slowest i've seen. there is no flash support and this is NOT the latest Opera build (or anywhere near). this indicates that HTC have a limited deal with Opera which does not include the more recent version - no free upgrade then.
I found both browsers to be unusually slow, even after various tweaks.
T-mobile have removed Windows Live from this ROM.
They have included (the completely pointless) F-Secure Antivirus, which annoyingly pops up an installation window upon every soft reset.
The 'H'SDPA icon is not enables by default for some unknown reason. this is surely a step backwards from the old T-Mobile ROM.
t-mobile sounds are preset by default. they are horrendous.
some of the 'band' settings have been removed in line with what's available in western europe.
dialpad is a modified pink|grey, as is the comms screen.
there is a t-mobile home plugin similar to htc's, but with 'web n walk' last dialled, file explorer and SIM manager.
this ROM seems more sluggish than touch dual overall, and is missing a great deal of decent features that id gotten used to with Touch.
will try a hard reset with no installed t-mobile CABs and report back
Thanks for the quick feedback.
You mentioned that the address bar is smaller. This is interesting. Could you post a screen shot on that?

sorry eaglesteve i dont have the screenshot utility that comes with touch, otherwise id send you a screenshot.
update though: this ROM is an absolute dog. it's slooooow, web pages dont load up very fast and for the first time in ages im getting the "this page cannot be found" dialogue in p.i.e. on random occasions. ive also had opera randomly shut down on me twice.
can someone else try this ROM and tell me im not mistaken? the only apps ive installed are wktask, fingertouch and htc home
so far i can't believe t-mobile have unleashed a pile of crap like this on the public. its bad enough that they make their handsets look so rubbish.
one last set of points to t-mobile:
we DONT need antivirus. really.
we DONT need to be asked if we're sure we want to go online/sure we want to close the browser.
we dont like pink today screens and phones with pink bits on them
we DO want you to employ Pawel and the team to develop decent ROMs in future.
Is this ROM the standard WM6 ROM provided by T Mobile to work on the Ameo? The quality is very different from those provided by Dopod.
Just switched back to the Touch Dual ROM.
I encourage anyone Interested in it to avoid this ROM at all costs except for warranty purposes. Glitchy, slow, overbranded, RUBBISH.
YUK.

lol nice.
to the poster asking about vanilla: i could remove everything except pk programs 3.0(task manager+regedit and screenshot app) and leave in tsk, welcomhead, and all the reg edits i have done BUT the available space on the device with or without dual will remain the same.
its not worth it.
use file explorer and go into windows/start menu/programs and removed whatever u dont use. it will clean up the program's folder and u can go ahead and do same with system folder.
it will look clean that way and if u decide u want to use a app that i cooked in you just add shorcut back in. also for battery/qwerty menu just go ahead and remove the shortcuts for those from windows/startup and those are gone.
switch to a different tsk like says windows mobile default and u look vanilla. for say the control panel apps just ignore or remove from windows folder.
Ur rom looks vanilla and it will have same space as a vanilla rom. also u can go ahead after the black tsk is displayed and soft reset device to not install extended rom stuff and reduce apps installed.
@leoni
T Mobile has put its customisations, so if u check opera, the proxy is enabled.
If u remove the proxy all work well.
Results are better, when one flashes only OS.nb converted to NBH and use, so u do not have any T Mobile Crap installed

[ROM][VZW][12.27.08]VZ Nav ROM 2.1-lllboredlll P2 GPS Edition-(WM6.1 CE OS 5.2.20931)
PLEASE SEE POST #2 for issues / FAQ's.
Its here!
Ok, I updated the ROM with Bored GPS phase two technology to bring you the easiest and fastest way to get GPS running on your XV6850. The instructions have been updated for use. Only MAJOR change besides asthetics is how you launch the GPS fix. I made it a little simplier ;c) See updated instructions below!
I also added some eyecandy, fancy icons in taskbar, battery percent over battery icon in 1% increments.
Preface::
This ROM is based on the eRice kitchen like my last couple ROM's. It has a modified version of the llllBoredllll GPS Fix. I modified it to create a link to PPST.exe in Programs -> Navigation -> Installation. In that folder you will also find three other installers for the latest version of Google Maps (with the new feature set)and Live Search. All tested and working with GPS locks usually under 60 seconds.

OS / Kitchen:
eRice TP Kitchen v1.03.7 [SYS OS 5.2.20931 Build 20931.1.5.0] with my Verizon OEM Pack

Google Maps with street view (Dont ask me about UPGRADEABILITY when they release a new app we will worry about it THEN!!!)
*Free Memory on boot
With TF3D running = 65 Megs
Without TFD Running = 71 Megs
Instructions UPDATED 27 Dec 08:
1. Flash phone - Phone flashes and autorun kicks in and then reboots.
2. Phone now displays welcome center and you click on screen to continue. No need to calibrate, I did it for you ;c)
3. Next hit start -> Programs -> GPS-> lllboredlll GPS fix.
4. Select OK to proceed with update. When that is finished select OK when prompted to reboot.
5. Now Dial *22899 and activate. Phone will reboot on its own.
6. Now we need to enable GPS in windows and verify the PRI update worked. Start phone by pressing green button. You will need to make a call to do this. Dial your voice mail. It should ring in to it no problem and the carrier should stay VZW on the screen. Now click Menu -> Options -> Serivces Tab -> Location Settings -> Get Settings -> Location On -> OK ->ok
7. DONE!
At this point you are done and GPS is unlocked. You can start installing the included GPS apps if yiou choose.
**The included apps have been modified to put the shortcuts in the Navigation Folder under programs. They are the latest versions respectively as of 20 Dec 2008 11:49PM Central Time. They can be uninstalled later to accommodate updated software! Don’t ask in the thread because you will look really silly as I have answered the question here.
Installing Live search and Google Maps then making them compatible, Step by Step!
How to set up Live Search
Start-> Programs -> GPS -> Live Search
Select Menu -> Settings. Arrows Done to GPS COM0 and change it to GPS COM4. Select Done
Now select Map. This brings up the default map. Next turn on GPS by pressing Menu -> Center on GPS.
It can take a few minute for a first fix. After that it much quicker. I also recommend toggle Center GPS on and back off again if it doesn’t pick up in under 90 seconds as a matter of fact the program will force you to. If it forces you to then click Ok then toggle “Center on GPS” off then back on and it will lock quickly! First lock is always hard on fresh flash. After that you should be good to go.
How to set up Google Maps
start -> Programs -> GPS -> Google Maps
Select Menu -> Options -> GPS Settings
Select Set manually and then arrow down and select COM4 then change baud rate to 4800. Now click ok.
Now Select Menu -> Use GPS and you will then lock on!
How to set up TomTom 7
Just install and run. It configures on its own. Atleast ver 7.45. I am running it without issue.
Remember: Be patient! It may take a couple soft reset to get it to work but it will. Trust me. Worse case scenario I had with a flash was I had to try twice in Live search then exit live search, toggle location off and back on, restart Live Seach and it locked instantly. Most of the time it will lock on the second try. Its been about 90% consistent under 60 seconds for me. A brand new phone took only two tries with live search and it got it within 15 seconds on the second try.
Note 1: This was done on a brand new in Box XV6850 straight from the VZW store and worked as stated above. These were also conducted using the stock Radio. This was done in the office basement of my house completely below ground. These are results are repeatable as I have don’t them at least 25 times now on two different phones.
Note 2: I have not applied anyother fix to my phone other than the steps listed above. I have not applied the aGPS fix either.
Downloads: www.scottcrosler.com
One last thing to remember, this is the ROM I run on my phone. I am sharing because I like to not because I have to ;c) This is not a full time job for me but I put in more hours on these forums than 40 hours a week! hehehe.... THANKS!!!!!
THis post reserved for future growth!
1. Carriers other than VZW are discouraged from trying the ROM. I cannot honestly tell you what would happen which is the ONLY reason I would discourage it. I am on VZW with a VZW phone. If you wanna send me one of those fancier models I woull gladly test it for you ;c)
2. I will eventually post cabs for Large start Menu and Large title bar. There are 100's of them out there. If someone can grab them I will post them on this post. Any help on this is great. I dont have time to look around for things i dont use and I got another project going on that will keep me busy most of tonight and tommorow. So once again, if you have these cabbed up already grab them and post them PLEASE!
Bugs
1. SYM key does not work right now. More than likely because Diamond Sip is gone. I have not confirmed only taken the report.
2. Pictures on Pic tab (disabled by default) dont flick up or down. I have not confirmed only taken the report.
3. TF3D is reported to not take special customizations. This has been reported but not exp by myself. I will look into it.
Thanks a lot. Can't wait to try it out. Downloading now!
Works great and the graphics improvements are really cool. When I boot I have 62.59 MB free! As always, thanks for all of your hard work on this.

I've gotta tell you story about this gps guy who was hacking away at pri's and chit. Well he decides to load up this new SUPER SWEET rom you posted and he sure did think it was nice. As he plays around installing and testing things, he decides to fire up the gps (you know that thing he's been all over for weeks). For some reason it wouldn't connect. So he goes searching and searching to see whats going on. After about 5 minutes or so he has a light bulb kick on in his weary weary head. he forgot to turn the location on..... hahahahahaha what an idiot.....

Yeah, this is the bet one SO FAR.......... hehehehe
Thanks for this new ROM.
I flashed to it and have noticed that are better than expected! WOOHOO!
I did that the Diamond Keyboard is not on of the SIPs loaded. Is this something that you did on purpose?
I have 63.10 MB free on first boot but I after running Opera and checking around, the memory dropped to 59.18 MB. Pretty awesome!
I love the skin for PSShutXP. Completely matches the TF3D theme.
I have tried to get the GPS running but not having much luck. I will keep trying but I was getting mixed results with the last ROM. I live in Brooklyn NY so I would expect that aGPS will be the best option for me as there are too many things going on here for un-assisted GPS to get a solid lock. Oh well.
Thanks for working so hard on all this for us!
Thanks for the update, I'm downloading now....very excited!!

****, forgot to put that I stripped out SIP. I will update first post. Thanks for the reminder.
Sip is like 6 megs of Ram and really doesnt do a damn thing that the normal MS SIP does other than take up more screen space. To me a keyboard is a keyboard..... Doesnt have to be pretty just A-Z and some numbers and symbols ;c)
EDIT: about your being in NYC... I have heard time and time again people in NYC cant get locks, any big city with tall buildings and lots and obstructions actually. Try to get into an area where you dont have much around. Once you get that first lock... Its all cake from there....

I modded it to take out a logo and the word Diamond Shutdown. Its the OEM from PPC geeks with my Special Touch ;c)
I just noticed one thing. Not sure if it was intended or not. When I go in to the touchflo picture viewer and go full screen, I can no longer "flick" the pictures. It wont let me do anything with the pictures. Like I said, I dont know if that was intended or not, but I thought that I would let you know if not.

I noticed that Clear Type can no longer be selected/deselected. No big deal for me just wanted to let you know. Also noticed that my SYM key on the physical keyboard does not do anything.
I also noticed the landscape settings as well.
This ROM is AWESOME!
Is there any place I can get the keyboard BTW. I like using it better than the standard SIP.
Thanks

Its ok, I did the same thing. I was making an instructional video for GPS use.... All was well untill after a minute I timed out. I was like.... WTF?!>?!>
Well GPS was off.... Can you write it into the next cab to turn it on automaticaly or should I just put that in to the kitchen tweaks? Up to you?

I'm actually looking into which is best right now. I guess a kitchen mod is about the easiest. If I do it in a cab I've got to delete the key then install the key. From what I've tried so far it will make a double entry.
I was outside tonight after posting the last few times and tried the HTC GPS tool to see if anything was getting through.
I was able to get up to 7 used but I couldn't get any fixed.
I ave it set to Q7500, cold start, 4800 and com 4.
I will keep trying to get a lock but...

Dont screw with the startig method. Just leave it as default. ONLY change the chip type.
Also, if you "use" that many and cant lock sounds like a nice quick soft reset will fix the problem. Most of the time anyway. Could be a funky driver issue.

[UPDATE 06/07/2010][APP][SOURCE]Wallpaper Changer - WaPaC 1.4

Wallpaper Changer - WaPaC 1.4
Created by Rapid
Now OpenSource (see the bottom of this post)
Because I don't have time to develop this application further and the current state of the program is fine for my use, I share the WaPaC's source by the community now.
A few terms, what you need to consider, before you use the source and consider to develop it in the future:
The WaPaC name needs to stay as it is, or if not and you use the source code, you need to mention it!
You need to mention my name, as the original developer of this program and where are the sources came from
You need to mention mohitsapru's name, as the developer of the scheduler component
I need a PM (or email) about the releases where you used the source or the release of a new WaPaC version
The future versions needs to be Windows Mobile version and Resolution free a.k.a. needs to work on every WinMo versions (5.0, 6.0, 6.1, 6.5, 6.5.X) and all resolutions!
I created a wallpaper changer application (WaPaC), to the scheduled wallpaper changing on WM's Today and on Sense. Tested on Samsung Omnia 2 with Sense 2.5 and everything is working fine.
The program is not a beta anymore, but still under development and may contains some bugs.
Changes in 1.4
No maximum files number anymore (maximum folders number is still 100)
A "Change NOW interface" added to select the needed UI to the change
Now the settings app shows the next time of the schedule
Random and continuously change setting added (you'll see randomizing popup window sometimes)
Intervals minimum set low to 1 minute with 1 minute steps
Besides the interval, now you can change the wallpapers at a specific time, like 8:00AM every day
The "back to the previous wallpaper" function is added and accessible with the "-prev" parameter and will change all choosen UI's wallpapers back to the previous one (not 100% if you use more than 1 directory for wallpapers storing).
The installer creates a "Change Now" and "Previous wallpaper" shortcut
Because I cannot create a setup.dll, the additional shortcuts is downloadable from the bottom of this post, but you need to edit the files, if you're not install the app to the device.
Several minor and major bugfixes
Changes in 1.3
The program is now compatible with CHT 1.8.X. You can change the wallpaper of the Home tab, All tab and CHT Lockscreen.
When you plug your phone to USB with Mass Storage settings, and the needed folder is not available to the WaPaC (or you deleted a selected folder), the app not crash.
Context menu added to the Selected Folders list to remove folders (if the folder is not available anymore, etc.)
The application is pops up a warning in the case you not select any UI, when you want to save the settings (not when you uncheck all).
Changes in 1.21
The folder changing bug fixed (when you tap on a folder and jumped to an other in the selected one)
Changes in 1.2
Redesigned interface
Separated setting for "Change on Windows start" (If you have an earlier version installed, then you need to uncheck and save, then recheck and save the "Start with Windows" option, because the shortcut contents is changed)
You can choose Minutes or Hours format at Interval settings
Interval changed to 5-1440 minutes or 1 to 24 hours
"Change NOW" button added
"Change only in idle state" option added (This means, if you're using the phone (the backlight is on) in the time when the scheduled change comes, the changing is delayed)
Maximum selectable folder number is 100
Changes in 1.1ß
- Folderselection is now free
- Maximum picture number changed to 10000/folder
- No need to refresh the list when you put new pictures in a selected folder
- Selected folders list stored and displayed after start and easy to modify.
- You can add a folder to the selected folders list by checking the checkbox near the folder's name. You can remove by the same method.
The program's not listing the directories with the following names:
- Windows
- Program Files
- Application data
- ConnMgr
- Documents and Settings
- Temp
Changes in 1.03ß (1.02 skipped, because some real trouble):
- S2U2 background change added (not tested)
- Settings saving corrected (HKCU\Software\WaPaC\)
- Interval steps changed to 5 mins
- Settings application supports all resolutions (tested on VGA, QVGA, WQVGA, WVGA, Square)
Changes in 1.01ß
- Start with Windows option problem fixed
- Clear Sense Background option added
Features:
- maximum 10000 pictures from multiple folders
- changeable interval from 10 to 720 minutes (12 hours)
- chooseable user interface to change background (Today and Sense)
- same wallpaper for the 2 UI or not
- start with Windows possibility
- not use memory at all, the changing starts with schedule and then quit
- separate settings application (only WVGA resolution supported yet)
- you can start/stop the scheduling in the settings app
Special thanx:
mohitsapru for his help
It is possible the program is working on other Sense, Manila or TouchFlo versions than Sense 2.5, if the wallpaper stored in the same place.
If you want to test it, download the cab and please give me some feedback and ideas, if you have any, to improve the app.

Thanks, gonna try on VGA - WM 6.5.5 - Sense 2.5.2012 and report back!
ps. why don't you attach the program here, too?
Hi Rapid81
This looks a great little app.
I have just tested it and unfortunately I get an "IndexOutOfRangeException" error when I hit the Load folder's list button. It starts to look at my whole sd card and then bombs out with that error.
Maybe adding the option to choose the folder without indexing the whole card is the way to go.
I am running this on a Touch HD with Energy 16 May 23569 CHT ROM.
Hope this helps.
Look forward to testing the next release.

I need to look through the whole system, because no SelectFolderDialog in NETCF. Maybe more than 100 folders contains pictures. I rised this number to 1000 in 1.03.

Wow! Couldn't even install it yet and you release an update!
Going with 1.03 then.
I've been waiting and hoping for a new wallpaper changer since antworks doesn't seem to change the today screen without locking up after a while. Glad to see yours has S2U2 changing and Sense as well.
I'm also getting the same error when it tries to load all the folders, and would agree that rather than try to index all the wallpaper, just allow the user to choose the folder. I have a 16Gig sd card, so it takes a lonnnng time to try to index that if I ever want to make a change.
Keep up the good work!
The biggest suggestion I have is a problem I have with other wallpaper changers. If the phone has been in standby when the wallpaper changed, when you power it on it takes 5-10 seconds to come on because it is loading the wallpaper. If there was some way to refresh the wallpaper beforehand so it would just power on instantly, that would be awesome.
S2U2's own wallpaper changing appears to not change while the phone is in standby. That's pretty cool too because it saves battery, plus fewer things running that might cause an error, say in the middle of the night, which = no alarm in the morning.
I tried to write my own wallpaper changing script with mortscript, but was never able to get it to be stable, so I appreciate what you're doing very much.

My problem is, there is no SelectFolderDialog in NETCF. That's why the application runs through the storage. If I'm creating a SelectFolderDialog instead of this method, you'll select only one folder and no subfolders o more separated folder. I'll try to came up with a workable idea, but I'm not making any promises.
This app change the wallpaper when the phone is in sleep mode. The phone does not came alive, just change the wallpaper in the backgound. You can't see anything about it, just the new wallpapers when you unclock your phone.
I guess I solved this "I want to select the directories on my own" and "why the apps runs through the whole system" problems.
Now you have a "file explorer"-like thing and a second list where is the app stores the selected directories. The directories stays checked and reloaded on settings app restarts.
Still testing, but if I'll not found problems, I'll upload it soon.
The solution is not 100% finger-friendly...
Something like this:
1.1ß uploaded
Been testing it this afternoon. The folder selection is very helpful, I can get it to run now.
It appears to change the wallpaper in all 3 places (S2U2, today, sense) just fine. I've noticed though that the spinning "busy" icon starts up and keeps going and going until I do something like click a tab. Then it pauses for a bit and makes the switch. When the phone has been in standby and I power it on, S2U2 will have the "busy" icon on its screen and will wait until I unlock into Sense to make the change.
I did have a couple instances of it freezing up, I thought this might be due to trying to change the Today background, since Antworks autowallpaperchanger would do something similar. It wouldn't freeze all the time, just some of the time, and I would have to not change the today wallpaper to fix that.
so far this is exactly what i was looking for. thank you very much for this!

If you checked the "Start with Windows", then you have a WaPaC.lnk in the \Windows\StartUp. That's all. And I recommend you to stop the scheduling before you remove the app.
Been testing without S2U2 just to have fewer things running.
When the phone is awake, if the scheduled change begins to run it won't finish until you force a screen refresh by hitting the windows button or something like that. It just sits and thinks forever with the spinning icon on the screen.
Are there any executable modifiers such as "-now" to open the program and force a screen change immediately? It would be great to be able to make a shortcut to switch the screen on command.

wow. welcome to computers 101. sorry for all the hub-bub. I will take it slower so I can better tell my 'issues'.
Will also keep checking back on this app-sounds great, Im just not the right person to be dealing with beta and giving anyone feedback yet.
Thanks for the link info.
Okay, so it doesn't seem to like switching the today wallpaper, which antworks didn't either. It tends to lock up from time to time if I ask it to change the today screen. Any idea why this is? Like I said, antworks changer behaves the same way. I can't figure it out.
I'm running WM 6.5 stock Sprint rom with Goodthings2life's tweaks. Sense 2.5. Touch Pro 2.

What UI do you use? When I alphatested the app, and I not used any UI, the background not refreshed, just after a program open and close. I cannot figured out a way to refresh the empty today right now, but I'm looking for it. But when I used Sense or Windows Default, the Today, Start Menu and Lockscreen changed properly.

Just using Sense UI 2.5. It is weird because it doesn't lock up the phone every single time, just some of the time. I don't have the weather animations going, don't have animated wallpaper. No start menu/lock screen modifications, all stock.
I'm not using S2U2 right now as I test this, but it would change just fine, Sense would change just fine, it is only the today/lockscreen that causes a problem. It seems to be something about the refresh, because the phone would lock up before the screen changed, but after rebooting the wallpaper would have changed. So, I know it isn't the copying of the files, that is being completed.
EDIT> Think I just figured out the problem, after reading this thread: http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=600892&page=4
It most likely is a file extension issue, which is why it works sometimes and doesn't work other times. It works until the random function hits a file that is the wrong extension and locks up. Although, that doesn't explain why the images are there once I reboot. Anyway, I'll test by splitting the file types.
EDIT 2> Well, hosed there. All my files are jpegs.

Star Wars Sounds

Hi Guys, here is my first attempt at making an App for the HTC HD2.
There are 3 sounds for each character, 4 for Vader. Keep selecting the character to select the next sound.
This will only work for touch screen devices, i haven't included any code for 4 way button phones.
Hope you like it.
Bollux.
<edit>
Hi all, here's version 2.
I've listened to the requests and added some extra buttons after selecting the character, and hopefully fixed the install to Storage Card option.
Works on my HTC HD2. Should now install to %instdir%\Program Files\StarWarsSounds\ by default.
Regards
Bollux.
WOW! Thank you!
I'm so over the moon with this. I was really hoping someone would do one. Fantastic picture interface, so much fun!!
When you said it was your first app I thought it was going to be really basic - but it's absolutely great. You should post some screenshots!
There just seems to be a minor issue with the sizing of the Luke icon at the bottom that's causing scrollbars to appear on my HD2.
Cheers,
Ian
Screen Shots
Thanks, Here's a Screen Shot on the test Device.
Not sure why the sliders are there, the code to show the pictures should only fill the available screen size. I used the me.width and me.height parameters. The icons are a much better fit on the HD2 screen 480x800.
Vb code used,
PictureBox8.Image = StarWarsSounds.My.Resources.Luke_lg
PictureBox8.Height = (Me.Height)
PictureBox8.Width = (Me.Width)
All the icons are sized with similar code to fit width and height.
'Luke
PictureBox8.Image = StarWarsSounds.My.Resources.Luke_sm
PictureBox8.Height = (Me.Height / 4)
PictureBox8.Width = (Me.Width / 3)
I did take out the keyboard icon toolbar, that shouldn't be there..

Just ran it again and can't recreate the issue I was having (the Luke icon was stretched off screen). It's working fine now. I'll keep playing and see if I can work out a consistent way that recreates it (or maybe it was just my phone going a little loony!)
Minor thing, but I notice that if you tap multiple times (even when a pic is showing?) it queues up all the tap events - it would prob be nicer if it just played one sound at a time and blocked the event listener until a sounds has completed if that makes sense. (Accidental taps cause it to go on a while)
hehe - even the icon in the start menu is cool
Cheers,
Ian
Nice work keep on making more ones!
Not working...
Hi,
being a StarWars Fan for years, I just had to try your app, but doesnt work.
I see the graphics, but when I tap on a picture, I just get a short "beep" and the pic is flashing.
I can play the sounds via MSMediaPlayer w/o probs.
Using Tosh TG01, WM 6.5.5, NetCF3.7
Maybe you find a solution, would really love to use this little prog.
"May the force be with you"
Installed to device memory, still had plenty of space.
I have the latest netcf on an hd2, and I cannot really hear anything.
I see the main screen, click on any character, I see what is a brief flash of a bigger picture (with associated scrolbars around), that lasts a splitsecond, but then the program goes back to the standard view, and all in all i can hear anything.
I can open the files in resources folder ok with nmedia player tho
Hi bo11ux!

works great on my sprint diamond wm 6.1 stock rom
hehe, i like this - well done
Thanks, my son will love this! Installed on LG iQ (GW825) in memory, using COM2(21901) custom rom from Dark. Works great!
Works well on my HD2 with stock Telstra 1.72 Rom & Manila 2.5.2012. Worked even better once I took the phone off silent. Oops!! Nice work
Tested and works well in HTC Touch HD.

[APP][22.05.2011][(W)VGA]ActionScreen Landscape support v0.6[Developers please help]

Hello
I liked the idea of an ActionScreen ever since I met with this program for a first time (it was on a Sense 2.1 stock ROM so it was really handy). ActionScreen is a simple application which shows the user a screen with 12 (sometimes more) shortcuts which can start/toggle frequently used programs or functions.
But as I am a Rhodium owner, I always had problem with Landscape orientation. The Smaberg's ActionScreen was showing only 2 rows of icons in Landscape or wasn't showing at all. So with the encouragement by Jackos I started to develop my own application based very much on the original idea of the 12-icon ActionScreen from Smaberg. As I am definitely not a programmer I started to learn Basic4PPC for a starter. Then, after I discovered how many environment restrictions it gives I switched to C#.
What I present here is a version which has full Landscape support (the app will run without problems in Landscape and will change it's layout properly even if there will be an orientation change while program is shown).
* NEW * - The whole app has been rewritten from scratch. Also changed to the C# + NetCF. This has not solved all of my memory problems but allowed me to improve on many other fields. The details are in the change log in post #2.
* NEW 2* - I added a VGA version of my ActionScreen. Special thanks to xOverkill who encouraged me to start working on VGA and then provided a great help with testing on Raphael.
With this version you can easily customise each link function by changing command and parameter in:
[HKEY_CURRENT_USER\Software\Skrobel\ActionScreen\LinkXX]
where "XX" is a number of the icon starting with 00 to 11.
You can change the icons as well (all the graphic files are stored in program folder). From v0.5 you can also change the colors of the background (at the moment only solid colours are supported) and the label texts.
And last but not least you can change the text of the labels under each icon in the same place in registry. This can come in handy when you want to change the language for instance.
There is a small readme.txt file attached to this post where I put a brief description of the settings/configuration possiblilities.
DOWNLOADS ARE IN POST #2
Unfortunately some problems have been solve and some not:
- I have problems to effectively dispose the resources upon program minimization. The C# or NetCF uses Garbage Collector for all the disposed controls/images, so the app memory does not decrease when it's minimized (and is about 1300 kB). I can't find a way to do it better
- the WinCE and WinMo environment doesn't support a "minimize form" event. So I used a little trick to override native Windows.Forms.Hide with SW_MINIMIZE imported from coredll.dll. Buuut this doesnt really minimize the app, but only get the window behind all other windows, but in front of Titanium or TodayScreen. That's why I suggest using this app ONLY on Sense/TF3D enabled ROMs or otherwice you will se my app instead of the TodayScreen
- Because of the above my app is visible also during system startup until Sense/TF3D is fully loaded
Actually I found a solution for SW_MINIMIZE (it was easier than I thought). So for now my only concern is to make the app less memory consuming and possible yet faster.
Soooo, if any of you guys could help me to improve the app (especially the memory management) I can share all my current experience as well as the source code. HELP PLEASE
Enjoy! Any feedback is welcome. I will try to improve as soon as my programming knowledge raises Or of course when someone agrees to help me
# CHANGE LOG:
22.05.2011 - v0.6
+ Added version for VGA resolution
+ Minor bugfixes concerning exceptions and image handling.
+ Added a new setting "ShowOnHTCKeyboard" enabling ActionScreen to show up when the hardware keyboard is open (refer to readme for more information)
- still high memory usage when idle (currently approx. 1300 kB) - looking for a better way to dispose resources during minimize
10.05.2011 - v0.5
+ Rewritten from scratch once again to avoid unnecessary code
+ much faster to load/unload/appear/disappear
+ AppToDate support (thanks for the tips Jackos)
+ Both landscape modes support (right- and left-handed). The app will now follow the GUI
+ Added "splash screen" during first load for eye-friendliness before system boots completely
+ Added possibility to change background and text colors (although not very comfortable at the moment)
+ Changed the settings location in registry to a more proper place. Therefore you need to uninstall the previous version manually before installing v0.5
- still high memory usage when idle (currently approx. 1250 kB) - looking for a better way to dispose resources during minimize
13.02.2011 - v0.3 - quick bugfix version
+ Fixed SW_MINIMIZE so that app minimizes instead of going to back
+ support for non-Sense interfaces (Today Screen and Titanium tested)
+ the app starts almost unnoticeably during system startup
- still high memory usage when idle (currently approx. 1300 kB) - looking for a better way to dispose resources during minimize
13.02.2011 - v0.2
+ Whole application rewritten from scratch in C# + NET CF 3.5
+ commands, parameters, paths to the images are now stored in registry
look into: [HKLM\SOFTWARE\HTC\Biotouch\ActionScreen]
+ also item names are now stored in registry for easy language changing
+ the app is loaded in the memory during system startup and it's maximised upon calling
- high memory usage when idle (currently approx. 1300 kB) - looking for a better way to dispose resources during minimize
- uneffective SW_MINIMIZE method
- only TF3D/Sense 2.1/Sense 2.5 compatible - it's not compatible with Titanium/Today screen
- the app is visible during system startup until Sense/TF3D is fully loaded - the SW_MINIMIZE issue
17.11.2010 - v0.1 - initial release
- Written in Basic4PPC
+ Landscape support
- Due to several reasons the app doesn't stay in memory, it's launched on each call
- no localization
- no configurations possible, the commands are hardcoded into the application
# DOWNLOADS:
For technical reasons you have to uninstall previous ActionScreen versions manually before installing v0.5. Sorry for the inconvenience.
OK, I present three versions with one tiny difference:
- Skrobel ActionScreen v*.* - it's a standard version starting when holding the PowerButton for 3 secs.
- Skrobel ActionScreen v*.*_softkey - the app is linked additionally to the left homescreen softkey in Sense (2.1 and 2.5) as showed on the last screenshot
- Skrobel ActionScreen v*.*_softkey_only - especially for p50kombi here goes a third version with only the SoftKey link and no PowerButton action
- Skrobel_AS_Blue_Icons - a set of blue "Pressed" icons for the ActionScreen. Special thanks to MrRusch for a permission to use his work which I found here.
The files are attached to this post. Enjoy
Been waiting for this.
Think you can make a version that links to softkey only and not to power button?
that would be great...Thanks.

It's done
yeah.....
thanks
Looks great, will test it .. Thank you
Skrobel, congratulations on your release.
I will be glad to test your preliminary version, let's see what you did improve since the last version I tried.
Some suggestions and tips if I may:
- Do not use text files to store settings like links etc. Registry is a more convenient method IMHO.
- Try to ensure support for more then one language.
- Do something with the loading time (I know this probably requires programming language change), quick! Like I said in our last conversation about this program, hiding the window and showing it when it's needed should help greatly.
One important question: What about ROM cooking? Are chefs allowed to cook this program into their ROMs?
Regards,
Jackos
PS What about graphics? Maybe something more TF3D/Sense like?
Thanks, I appreciate your hints and help
According to the B4PPC support forum the loading time when the app is starting from "0" will not be better at all. I did everything I could to make the app lighter (use only one external library, don't use text labels, use only only one image for the whole form). But it didn't improve the loading time much though...
I already have a version which loads into memory at system startup but it has some annoying limitations connected with the programming environment.
I.e.:
The only way to actually load all the elements (images, controls) into memory is to show the app. So at startup I must actually show the app at least for 10 ms and then trigger the "ShowTodayScreen" procedure to hide it. And during system startup any graphics I'll try to show appear incomplete and for long time (until Sense shows).
Another problem is that there is no "minimize" procedure. Only the above mentioned ShowTodayScreen which always returns to Sense. If the user would run the ActionScreen in order to run a new window (such as new SMS) it's not a problem. But if you want to trigger the BT or WiFi, returning to HomeScreen every time is annoying.
Third problem is that even when the app runs in background it still takes over 600-700 kB which I consider as large for so light image it actually is. Furthermore I noticed strange behaviour when ActionScreen is not used for longer time. It takes more and more memory over time (a memory leak?) and "refreshes" itself when it's actually called.
Buuut in this situation the form shows within half a second.
Language and GUI is on the "to do" list as soon as I will handle the above problems. Actually changing the gui is very simple (there are no graphics merged in the exe, only external ones). But I'm totally not creative when it comes to graphics. That's why I asked for help in the first post.
Finally:
Everybody is welcome to use this program in their ROMs. Just drop me a line that you plan to do it and it would be nice if you referred to this place in your ROM thread but with such small app is absolutely not demanded.
@ Skrobel Any chance of my makin' an 18-button ver, a la wedge666's offering here? He, however, doesn't have landscape support. Your app's lack of buttons is the only thing stopping me from hoppin' on-board.
The problem is that the more controls on the form, the longer time the app needs to start.
So technicaly it's possible and relatively easy, but in the current app state I would like to handle all my problems first to be able to hold the program in the memory. Then addidg or moving controls will really be easy. Plus I will add the possibility to configure the icons and programs yourself so that everybody can customise it.
Hi Skrobel,
the landscape support is a very good idea. And since i use the HD2 and the TP2 i have missed this on my HD2. But the HD2 can handle landscape with a manila tweak well. Also in combination with the CHT Suite.
We, the CHTA beta team, can help you with a layout for CHT default and for the simplicity quicklinks. That's my personal favor style.

Am I to understand that you somehow forced the original ActionScreen to work in Landscape mode? Or at least to appear on full screen?

Thank you very much for the hint. I know these icons from Seem's ROM, but I didn't know these are his design. I like them too. And the way they behave when pressed.
oOadditional designs or to the beta team (that means you in this case )?
No, he just has a tweak in with he rotates the screen in HD2. His Action Screen doesn't support landscape ditto and that's the problem.

On the STOCK ROM it is working well without any issue. The latest Rom is: (please see my signature).

No i mean the team. We are around 10 guys here from XDA. And the most of them are known from other things .
Ach, we misunderstand ourselves
I meant that you where using another ActionScreen (probably from Smabergs) and it didn't work well in landscape.
Skrobel's version does work very well in both portrait and landscape.

yay! Wonderful! Let me check this out!
Hello again,
I have found a solution for my minimize problems. Updated version in post #1.
Still if somebody can show me how to make the app more memory-friendly, I'll be grateful.
Take care
