BA and Bluetooth Caller ID handsfree ? - MDA III, XDA III, PDA2k, 9090 Accessories

As long as I know BA support using of the BT only as an audio device (headset), im interested in device which is a bit more than that, anyone know will BA work with devices like this one ?
http://www.dealextreme.com/details.dx/sku.32355
would be nice if you tested something like that / it would be nice not to waste 35$
thanks, best regards to community and especially Chef Tony !!!

incredible, no one knows the answer...

i think it depends on the rom you use. with the cooked roms there are a few new bluetooth drivers integrated, that gave the blueangel the feature of a2dc for instance. that was not integrated in wm2003. having said that, i guess the protocols supported by bluetooth are purely software/driver related, while the hardware only limits the connection speed and distance. it's a shame that site does not show, what protocol is used for caller id and unfortunately i have never owned any bluetooth accessory that would provide the same function.
i would be 65% sure that it works though, if i were you, i would go look for a good local retailer or web shop with a money back guarantee. dealextreme has a good money back guarantee, but i guess, you'd have to pay for the shipping back to them, which, in your case, would be half way around the planet and probably not that cheap. or maybe, one of the others knows about the protocol, and then we can find out with certainty, if it will work.

thank you chef Tony, true reply of the master, best regards and respect !

yes
most likely new cable is inexpensive

Peanut Gallery - Thoughts & Pole on GPS Hacking thread

Just a new thread so we don't spam the tech crew working on the GPS thread as it is growing at great speed, and spam is entering...
Discuss anything you want re GPS hacking, how cool it would to stick this up HTC's rear! LOL
Last time they include a chipset with disabled software!
So, hopefully in a month or so, we should see cooked WM6 roms for our hermes, and GPS enabled in them as well...
All i'll say then is it would simply be the best device, by a massive margin on the market!
Im in for finacially rewarding the person that gets a good working hack for the GPS or a cooked rom!
Keep up the excellent work guys! for what iits worth, its made me take up a C++ programming course, hate feeling left out and not able to help!!
crossbow and internal GPS on the hermes, that will be nice.....
excellent work so far.
Wouldnt a financial reward hinder the progress on the GPS ?, If the people working on it took the prize money challenge, they would start to keep all their progress to themselves and not share it with anyone else in case it helped someone else win the prize money ?
I'm happy to pay for the efforts of the people that are working on this project if thats what is needed to get it working, but i think this idea would be counter productive to everything that has happened so far ?
I help lots of local people with free computer setup and training and wireless network problems, but i never expect to be paid for them, i simply enjoy helping local people out, and i'm sure the people working on this gps project would be the same
This is the effort of quite a few guys.. not a race. I appreciate everybody's effort, and think that if there's a collection taken, it should be divided up however they see fit.
I'm up for more than $8, btw (how much is a standalone gps people?). And I would hope that our pooled $$ would help pay for some of the time and risk that a lot of people are making.
I would tend to concur with Mosser. XDA developers is about a community working together to enhance HTC devices. Offering a prize tends to take away from the teamwork since everybody is looking at the $$$. What you see in the GPS thread is the best of this community taking chances and putting everything they've got into a common goal. GPS is the prize here.
If you want to help, don't offer money, rather grab yourself a copy of the dumped Trinity Registry from post 390 (what we know applies to GPS is in post 108) of the "ideas thread" and start looking for a device that may have a connection to something named "VIRSER_COM". It's painstaking work going through the registry line by line but numbers make the job easier....
Hardware hack enthusiasts can start googling for a chip pinout (these show what each pin does and its location on the chip) for the Qualcomm RFR6250
Here's another thought:
Developers can simply place a "paypal donations" button into their sig if they'd like to see a few euros sent their way. If people appreciate the work, they can follow the link and donate. That way, teamwork remains the top priority.
Of course, you can always donate to XDA-developers too we can use all the help we can get!

I appreciate this is very basic and doesn't list pin numbers but better than nothing to start with.
Edit: found roughly the same thing again but this time it shows the interconnections with other chips (the JPG). If the the pcb traces can be identified and followed back it may be possible to determine pinout.
yeah, I've gotten that far myself. We need the actual Qualcomm datasheet on this chip, I believe, to get the pinouts. I'm gonna go and email their customer service dept. I think and pretend to be some big-shot engineer or something....

Seriously considering selling Ameo

I'm getting fed up! I have a 16 GB T-Mobile Ameo (x7510 Athe400) with NO means of unlocking it, NO optimised ROMS I can load, and somewhat less than helpful approach from the admins here who cannot even be bothered to create a sub forum for the x7510.
I've had the Ameo for two months now and while the 5" screen is nice, and I appreciate the on-board GPS, the fact is I got it above all else as a tool to do my job. Specifically, to use with Remote Desktop to provide quicker response times in delivering network support to my clients.
I used to be the proud owner of a Universal. The Uni doesn't have GPS, nor an accelerometer and the screen is smaller. It has far less memory (64 and 128 MB models).
It does have 3G and a FAR superior keyboard and my Ameo has never seemed as responsive as the Uni, even though on paper the Ameo should be far superior!
In my car I used to use a Bluetooth rearview mirror as a hands-free solution as I cannot abide those silly earpieces that makes you look like something out of Star Trek! Except I couldn't get it to pair with the Ameo. Oh it paired with my Uni, my Wizard before I broke that, my Touch (elf 256) and now my Touch Diamond, but NOTHING I did could get it to pair with the Ameo!
Result: I had to buy an i.Tech Clip II handsfree device!
There are many little things wrong that I can live with, but the volume of these are stacking up to the point where I'm begiining to think that overall the Ameo is a heap of junk by comparison!
With the default T-Mobile ROM there is NO benefit whatsoever from having an accelerometer! The 16 GB storage is nice to have but not absolutely essential.
I've noticed some others got fed up with their Athenas. Does anybody have any compelling arguments to change my mind about the Ameo?
x7500 is the way in my opinion.
It's all about the rom. Get a secondhand or new Ameo x7500, unlock it, stick MichyPrima's 5.1 rom on it, get a 16GBsdhc card and off you go.
I was on the verge of ditching my ameo as it was getting old and other new shiney phones are always coming out. But now the MP 5.1 rom has changed all that as my x7500 is now fast as f+?k for most things. I even use it before my laptop at work as it is just better. Here is a list of stuff I do with it. (I'm trying to arrange for my boss to donate to Michy! by the way.)
Geotagged photos
downloading rss podcasts, video and audio
gRemote (works well with Vista on my HDTV)
listening to music,
phone calls (video too) with A2DP headset that switches back to music seemlessly.
Facebook (Snap2face) actually use this for work.
Crosswords
Audio notes
Youtube + Blip.tv
Weather
radio (via wifi)
flashlight (gets bloody dark where I live)
Gps navigation (google maps & TomTom)
Sprit level
Altimeter
File transfere (only thing microdive is good for IMHO)
Alarm Clock
Presentations with video out.
Audiobooks.
Email.
All of this works without a hitch and I charge my phone for 1.5 hours a day, (switched off=way quicker). I have tried many other units including iphone et al and not found anything that comes close. I am a technology advisor for artists in the area so this Ameo gets about 10hrs use a day and has only broke once which was my own stupid fault.
hope this helps.
P.s I never use the keyboard as the on screen is faster.
Thanks Matt. The problem is mine is an x7510 and there is no unlocker available for it.
Worse yet, what little technical info there is on the x7510 is mixed in with lots of detail about the x7500 and x7501, both of which have substantially different hardware.
I was lucky - Olipro's unlocker failed at an early stage and thus didn't brick my x7501. I ran the unlocker because it wasn't made clear anywhere that it is not safe to run on an x7510.
Others weren't so lucky and are now the proud owners of some rather expensive paperweights.
Despite this the admins here don't rate it as an issue at all and refuse to even comment on requests for a seperate x7510 forum under the Athena forum, let alone create it!
The Athena forum leans toward nasty, with various indivuduals having a superior attitude with callous disregard for others. I may not be able to code an unlocker, but I'll give them a right run for their money coding apps that tie Active Directory, Exchange and 3rd party SQL DB's together.
The Uni, Wizard and Elf forums don't suffer so much with bloody overinflated egos.
You know, people must have some SERIOUS self-image issues if they need to constantly "prove" to others just how superior they truly are! Saddos!
Having said that, there are some truly gifted and talented people here who selflessly give and don't have the attitude. Being friendly costs nothing!
Also, it's a bit like a night in a pub: never mind the loud-mouth little pip-squak trying to convince the world what a fighter he is - but watch out for the ones that don't boast!
To be fair, yes I can see benefits the Athena has, but with the exception of the on-board GPS and HSDPA I feel I was far better off with my Uni. Certainly with the Uni there was miles more support and none of the attitude problems. So I may yet sell my Athena and buy another Universal.
I think he meant sell your new one and get an old one.
To be fair most Athena users are busines speople who would have kep it ristiine, so you're pretty likely to pick up an X7500/01 in great condition pretty cheap.
I know what you mean about angry people here, but sometimes people need to be told to shut the f*ck up and search.
And with regards to an X7510 subforum, I think the mods dont see any advantage to it. No top devs have one, so very little chance of hard-spl and therefore custom roms, and o it will just be full of people moaning about having no unlocker.

My advice to you would be to speak with Olinex and Pawel directly and see if you can convince them to come back to this side of the world to do a bit more work with the X7510's. I totally understand your frustration, however I still believe that the X750(x) is still the better way to go for the 7510's. Both because of Hardware and software support. You can get the housing for the 7500's and replacement keyboards on ebay. And as you already pointed out the ability to do ROM updates on the likes of the 750(x)'s. If I were you I wouldn't give up just yet though. But if infact you can't wait then maybe you can trade in the 7510's for the touch HD and join the likes of Pawel and Oli over on that side of the world. I myself have to skip that one though, because their's nothing like my X7501 to date, well I stand corrected the (X7500's) are better.
At work we have the 7510's and to be honest im glad I have the 7500 of my own. the support for the 750* is fantastic on here as you are well aware, but the 7510 is so close yet so far away from it, its just TOO much like the older version to be worth starting over. As already said here you can sell up your 7510 to someone who wants "the up to date model" and replace it with a 7500, then you are away. well that is my veiw for you as well.

Hi Artic Matt, which headset are you using?
I have 5.1 ROM and too much problems with bluetooth stack and a watch MBW 150, maybe because the headset, no the ROM I don't know. But the vibration funcionality of the Jabra is nice for the athena.
anyone mananged to figure out that ap4 and ap5 had a x7510 spl that was a hardspl and then also ap4 and ap5 were made with the x7510 in mind. meaning the hardspl and roms for the x7510 are already there. cmonex might have to correct me but i believe the ap4 rom together with the spl upgrade will give u a hardspl'ed and custom rom run'in x7510.

RC E100 with Touch HD

Can't get the RC E100 working on the phone. Connecting the remote gives me an error that the phone does not support it. I have tried to install the drivers but that doesnt help me either: you have already the latest drivers.
Anyone?
imo it's not supported, because of the 3.5 jack. I've tried yc-a300 multi adaptor wit no luck either.
i think that i've seen somewhere a reg hack which allows you to use usbExt audio capabilities on htc touch hd.
You would make a lot of people happy if you were able to find this reg hack.
As it stands we are told that no audio is passed to the Ext-USB.

I bought the E100 without realising it wasn't compatable, however, I was poking around in Google and found a reference on a polish version of xda-developers. http://pdaclub.pl. Now, bear in mind that I speak no polish whatsoever, but it seems to be discussing a ROM that has been made which allows the E100 to work with the THD. Here are a couple of very poorly translated excerpts (translated using an online translator), which seem to be talking about using the E100 to control the volume (and hence other controls?):
So, I have noticed (have remarked) that from this a bit requests nazbierało here, whole list beguile that in (to) ) add (be of use for) repair /add ( hope < stuff > sofcie, that in version already 2.1 ) 1. So does anyone speak fluent Polish geek and can create ROMS ? (If there isn't anyone here, I do know a Polish girl who is completely non-technical, but could possibly help with the translation)
Damn it.. wish I read this before ordering the RC E100 in from Amazon in Germany (best price I found).. why the hell do they include a leaflet with the phone advertising these headphones if they are not compatible!!!
Is there no available ROM that can cure this, Dutty etc??!
As for the Polish stuff, my Polish friends are not at all technical either, but I can ask one to translate it too, if anyone will find it helpful...
Does anyone know how we could get a ROM developer interested in this like Dutty? Do we just PM them, or do we need a special invite?
read the manual for the hd (in the wiki)
although the miniusb socket has the extusb pins present, on the inside the extusb pins are not connected
therefore no matter how skilled the hacker, you cant make software to do something that the hardware is not present to deliver
the same with tv out
the extusb port is there purely for bog standard usb functions and charging
if people have a leaflet from an official supplier in their box recommending these headsets/remotes etc, then you have bought them through misleading advertising and you will have some form of recompense through your local trading standards process

Hi JimLin,
I don't know if this applies for shipping to foreign countries but in Germany there is a law that you can send back any online ordered goods within 2 weeks without naming even a reason and you will get a refund. (I don't think this applies if you bought by a private seller)
So the odds are on your side I would say...
Best regards,

Looking for a t4242+ (clone) Rom in english

As theattitle i looking for a rom that make my wheel working.
Thx
As clone has nothing in common with original Iolite, nobody here will probably help you with that. You must check clone's manufacturer website.
English ROM
Please do not listen to these people. This phone is strongly supported although not officially. I personal bought everyone in my family this phone as it is of high quality and faster than the original.
The following link is WM6.5 English with wheel working and stable for HTY T4242+
http://rapidshare.com/files/332889532/SMART.UPR.html
Plus I recommend the following website for any software you may need.
http://forum.ppcwarez.org/
This phone may be supported somewhere, but not here. We talk about htc devices, and clones are like Palm/Motorola/LG, they share nothing with HTC devices, except the look. They require specific software (for cooking), and specific methods (soft reset, flashing, hard reset...). How can we help people if we are supporting devices regardless of if they are originals or clones? Even worse, there are even different clones of the same device (T4242+, T4288...), and roms are incompatible between them!
AFAIK, information about clones here are only for the people who buy these clones instead of the original, thinking they are buying the original...
Clones may be good if you know what you are buying, but people buying clones thinking they are buying originals ARE ripped off, nothing else. This is illegal for that reason, selling someone something as being something else. Remove the HTC branding in the announcement (on ebay for instance...), i am ok with it. But i spotted several listings for "HTC T4242" which were instead for "HTY T4242+" or "T4288". This is not good.
And please don't say it is faster. Processor is not everything you know... Clones have half the ram, half the rom...
And finally, what will happen if you have an issue with it? When you buy a device, you also buy support. Buy clones without support (THIS is support, when your device break, you can make it repaired) if you want, but don't advise people to do the same without giving them all the information.
T4242 quality
Look, the argument can go either way. I have personally had this phone for months and purchased many for family and also recommend them. To answer your question, they are not the same. This one has a faster more expensive processor for half the price and I have found that they perform faster. The quality is great. As far as support, there is a community to offer ROM's and warez sites for any software including GPS. As for warranty, cell phones have a life of about 2-3yrs tops. These phones are half the price and perform perfectly. So if you are worried, buy a second one as a back up and you will still be ahead of the original.
FYI: The batteries are exactly the same, so is the charger, and casing so all accessories will work except audio related headphones etc. They actually ship with 2 batteries and 2 stylus's and wall charger and decent headphones. Batteries are $5USD with shipping on eBay and so is the charger. Buy a bluetooth headset and forget about the plug in.
Please understand that there are people on this forum who paid good money, over double for a device which does not have the same specs, ships with half the accessories (batteries) and paid for twice the price. I would be bitter too. These phones are made by Hantel, which is part of a large cellphone manufacture CECT. I have purchased thier phone for 3 years and no problem. I have owned P168, Daxian x999+, HTY Q5 and all high quality.
This one is the best bang for your buck in my opinion.
jaygreene24: Clones might be good, but they still are and will be clones and have nothing in common with original. Just deal with it. But do not ask, how it is possible that kitchens, SPLs and so on are not working for them... Btw. You really think that your clone is faster than mine custom cooked original? I don't think so...
4242+是山寨货,不能和我们的这个rom通用
Sorry, but since this is an english forum, you are supposed to write in english...
And why would you write in chinese in a thread asking for an english rom? I just don't get it...
Can anyone post a good link for a current T4242+ english rom?
http://ul.to/wdfc52
This is an English wm6.1 rom that I got from a seller in China. Although its wm6.1 at least it is in english..
I am living in Beijing at the moment and I will try to get a wm6.5 english rom from a seller as soon as I can...
I seem to have inadvertently got hold of one of these... Sorry but the build quality isn't a fraction of HTC's. Anyways it seems like I'd better make the best of a bad situation. In the process of trying to flash the rom I appear to have frozen windows so now I can't access anything on the home screen.
Now - I'm vaguely aware of how to do this sd card flashing business but can someone fill me in? I've figured out how to access the usb update mode but nothing beyond that. Failing that, a hardware hard reset would also be great if I could get the button combination - if there is one lol
Any advice at all very welcome thanks!
hard reset turns out to be - middle circle including outside and inside buttons + red button. Now to get a decent rom to flash
I flashed my T4242+ clone with an english 6.5 rom; works perfectly, wheel and buttons included.
If you want to modify the user interface, add a nice plugin, like Iphonetoday ( there are others, too ), and there is not much left I might need.

Fixing Asus' screwup: Bluetooth GPS receivers.

So yeah, we all know asus botched the GPS in their latest tablet,
they denied us a fix (irony) and now we're left to pick up the pieces ourselves.
Does anyone have some pointers on how to get a bluetooth GPS receiver to work on the prime?
I have a really old one (+7yrs) that doesn't seem to catch on with any of the apps I tried.
Its so old its unlikely to be compatible with anything android so a new one is in order,
so I was wondering if anyone knew a cheap one I could grab to get some GPS going.
In a quick search I found this: http://www.ebay.com/itm/BT-Mini-Mob...408?pt=AU_GPS_Accessories&hash=item4160a71b08
It certainly is cheap, but is it a viable receiver?
Any help towards getting GPS on my prime would be greatly appreciated!
(No I dont have a GPS phone..)
Cheers,
- Sven
Him.. I would be a bit leery of that thing. Something seems a little.. anemic? Get it, try it, report back as I would be curious how well it works and how long the battery lasts. Check Amazon for "Keychain Bluetooth GPS Receiver" if you want something like that and read some reviews.
I have read very good things about the Pharos GPS brand.
Naturally, you then need an app from the market on your tablet that talks to the unit so that you can get the GPS data it has sent to your tablet. So, it is not just as simple as pairing the 2 BT devices, an app is needed to then gather and use the data on the tablet.
Ive looked into those apps, they do something called mock location I think?
I have an old as hell GPS receiver but alas the apps weren't having it.
It pairs as normal, even does the 0000 password thing like it used to on my win mobile 2003,
but it simply isn't pumping out any data, not sure whats going wrong.
And yeah, the pricetag on that ebay one is raising some "this cant be decent" flags on my end too.
Then again some of the cheap Chinese crappery has surprised me before.
If at all possible id prefer buying a tried-and-true GPS unit though.
Pharos brand IGPS 500 has been talked about many times here alone in the Prime threads.
Assuming it is this thing, I find the price a bit steep,
for 90 bucks you can pretty much buy a standalone tomtom or similar.
I was hoping for someone to confirm wether or not the specs listed on that ebay receiver would be compatible and workable for navigation,
and if it could in theory work, id gladly be the guineapig to try it out and see how it goes.
But if it would be a dud per definition there'd be no point.
Shop around my friend, I can see some on ebay for $50 and used for much much less.
The one on eBay does "in theory" work. Like I said, search Amazon and read some reviews on those little keychain models.

Just FYI regarding 'mock locations'. That's actually a setting in the TF201 that you have to use with external gps units. I can use Google Navigation on my TF201 with data from my phone gps via wifi (using the TetherGPS program that is available in the market). In order to make it work I have to turn on 'Allow mock locations' by going to Settings, Applications, Development and then click 'Allow mock locations'.
Good luck, and let us know how it goes.
I have tried and tried and tried to get my Droid to tether GPS but have not been able to make it happen - tried many apps and many settings. I can, however, tether 3G and data all day long. Have not yet solved the GPS via my phone yet as we have great GPS units in our phones already.. generally speaking.
Yes, many used ones, even one for 29 bucks, but "ya'll yanks" dont like us Dutchies.
None of em are willing to ship to the Netherlands so im plum out of luck with ebay and pharos.
Local shops here dont seem to carry Pharos products at all, so that's two dead ends on that one im afraid.
Amazon doesn't seem to carry any keychain GPS units.
So meanwhile I went to one of my favorite cheap swag suppliers, deal extreme.

What do you guys think of this thing? Its acing the reviews it seems.
They also mention google maps working with it somehow, so there may be a good chance?

Yes, they certainly do, here is just 1 http://www.amazon.com/Freedom-Input-Keychain-GPS-2000/dp/B0010NQ08M maybe not in the price you want, but they do carry several models.
Not only that, Amazon has the pharos IGPS new and used and if you can shop there, you can buy there. I would take the proven pharos in same price range over an unproven model any day.

Phobos is an American thing it seems, I cant shop at amazon.com either.
Although I agree with you that it is worth paying a little more if its a proven fix,
I cant get my hands on them so they are definitely out.
The 99 dollar keychain one probably doesn't resemble the 12 dollar one much.
bluetooth gpa
am using holux blue tooth gps receiver with bluegps program from market and have full gps functionality on prime.

Could you please specify which type you have?
Dealextreme seems to offer this brand, so I can get one if it really works well.
http://www.dealextreme.com/p/holux-m-1000-32-channel-bluetooth-car-gps-receiver-25563
Yeah, if your going to post a brand you have used with success here, PLEASE try to include the model - that would be super helpful.
Notice how the Holux says "32 parallel satellite-tracking channels for fast acquisition and reacquisition" and that one on Amazon is 51 (2x the price) and the Pharos does not say.
That other one on dealextreme even boasts 65 sats. Thats a helluva lot of sats.
Unfortunately its impossible to know if its actually compatible.
I did email the manufacturer about android compatability,
but the site was full of chinglish so dont expect an answer.

The thing is, there is no reason why it would not be "android compatible". These BT type GPS devices are BT devices. So, if they use a current BT standard - which they should - your fine. A BT type GPS is not made to be manufacturer specific. That is the point and beauty of them. They are for tablets, phones, computers, whatever. So that is not even a question worth asking.
The only things you should care about is the quality and name of the brand you choose and the software app you choose to put on your tablet. The tablet app you use is likely way more critical as it is what will do all of the work in sending the GPS signals to your tablet. The BT GPS unit is kind of just dumb in terms of who it is talking to and who talks to it. It does not really care. It has a current BT chip inside to communicate with a BT device - and so does your tablet. The software is going to be crucial as much as the quality of the GPS unit.... point is there is no "android compatible" BT GPS unit per se. These units are made to work with phones, laptops, tablets and more. It is brand dumb.
Every unit talked about here so far should 100% work. IF they do not, it is likely (1) a GPS quality issue - hence a $14 BT GPS keychain versus a $50-100 model or (2) the tablet software you pick to connect the 2 to talk.
If I could post a link I'd send you to the GPS over BT thread in the Android Forums. I'm still a few post shy of linking externally here.

Thanks.. getting it done is not so much of an issue - tons of places on the web explain it. The software exists in the market as well. Really, it is first about picking the desired BT GPS unit of choice - I think that is the goal here first.
I know theres tons of apps for it, but its not as universal as it all sounds.
My receiver is proof of that unfortunately.
I think ill order the keychain one just for laughs,
we might get pleasantly surprised.

I say go for it. Try it and see. Not a real huge loss if not. If not, sell it on craigslist and get your money back.
BUT, your not entirely correct. You self admit "I have a really old one (+7yrs)" - do you (1) realize how old that is in tech and (2) I bet that thing uses way old BT technology as just 1 possible reason why (not to mention GPS standards). Point is, my comment above is most certainly related to current & modern technology so needs that obvious context - not a piece from 2005
