Htc x01ht -> x05ht - 8525, TyTN, MDA Vario II, JasJam Software Upgradin

Hi.
First of all i wasn't sure where to post this. Whether to post in the Touch Pro section or what. But i figured you guys know so much about the unlocking of X01HT and stuff, so i figured i'd try my luck here-
I have searched for some days now, and done some "researching", but i never really found the answer i was looking for. Also already read stickies and i do have experience in flashing/unlocking of my X01HT.
Now.. I'd like to "upgrade" to X05HT, but i wouldn't just go buy it without knowing whether i can really use it or not.
(using wifi, internet(gprs), mail... stuff liek that)
My concerns/qestions are.
Does the X05HT have the same "issue" as the post April X01HT does? If you have already let the ExtROM install you CAN'T sim-unlock it? How would i know whether it has already been installed just by looking at an auction? Does it have to have a Radio version like: 1.16.00.00 - like on the X01HT?
And is it even unlockable at all? Since it's a newer device i figure they might have done something that makes it even harder to unlock.
Or is it just as easy as buying one off auction and then flashing it? (after hardSPL) ?
The only thing i read was something with the wifi not working abord. Can anyone confirm this?
Sorry for the long post. And sorry if these uestions have been asked many times, without me being able to find the answers
Thank you!

HardSPL first or SIM unlock first

Hi Gurus
Is it safer to apply HardSPL first then SIM unlock or the other way round.
Maybe it doesnt matter.
Whats your view ?
Asif
I did sim unlock first. then I apply hardspl. now flashing different roms. don't know exactly how the process suppose to be but that's what I did and my phone is working like a champ
I did hard spl, then Sim unlocked, not sure if it matters. I had the same query when I unlocked, but wondered if I missed something in the WIKI, so didn't ask due to a good flaming (if you aint done your research you can get crusified in here). Your braver than me lol
@AsifM3100: U need to do the CID/SIM update first; it will load it's own spl and radio. When U have completed the process, then U should install the hardspl before flashing your own radio and or rom.

You post made me laugh. However I have made the same observation but couldnt find the answer in the wiki or other posts. Its one of the reasons why I have put off unlocking and flashing for such a long time. So many people who you feel sorry for, cos they have bricked their phones and who are panicking, just get told to do the research. When you are in that state the last thing you need is research. Its such a contrast to the SAP developer network site that I use regularly where evryone is so keen to help (me included).
Having said that its still the best site for us Hermese peeps. I would be in no state to unlock if it wasnt for this site. I just hope nothing goes wrong.

Asif

3 thoughts on this:
1. It is scary when the Germans are nicer than us
2. You gotta feel sorry for anyone hanging around in an SAP developer network
3. We aren't so bad when people have done research. It is the "HELP PLZ!!!!! - JUST GOT MY HERMES THIS MORNING AND BRICKED IT!!!!" posts that get people upset. Or the "CAN SOMEONE TELL ME IF THERE IS A WM6 ROM AVAILABLE FOR THE 8525 BY CINGULAR????" People who do their research and ask don't get crucified too badly - usually.
Oh, and regarding the question - doesn't really matter, since (as galaxys noted) the unlocker uses it's own SPL called SSPL and overrides whatever SPL you have loaded. However, it is good practice to throw HardSPL on their as the first step, since it protects the Hermes from having it's bootloader borked - and that is a good thing!
Hi todd_gj
There are not that many Germans on the SAP dewv Networks. Its mainly asian probably in Southern India. Most of the software is now developed out there, especially sisnce it costs $10 an hour. I bet most WM5/6 is churned out over there.
But I do take your point. You need to do your reading, but i have found a little extra help goes a long way to making sense of it all.

Asif

I don't have the Hermes yet, but I'm already so lost on this forum...

I have an AT&T 8525 arriving tomorrow and I'm so excited by the possibilities... but at the same time I'm just by all the different jargon and things that everyone seems to know about. I'm coming from a Blackjack which I've hacked the crap out of but this just seems so much more complicated. Anyway, hello, if you have any suggestions for someone who has never had an HTC before, please post them up for me, because I really just don't know where to start.
Thanks!
Start here, read and learn

welcome to the club, please read all the Sticky topics on the main page of HERMES Upgrading ect...
if you still have any questions or concerns then post your next question...
happy reading
Oh god... come in sucker.
First of all, before you even start using your phone, SIM unlock it, super CID it, install Bootloader 1.11 but not 1.04 unless you have Olipro 1.02b or you have acces to KITL, then flash every ROM you can find until sleep deprivation affects your marriage your job and you forget the name of your eldest child.
Then after two months of owning a phone that almost never is in a working state, you'll get it stuck in bootloader mode just after you suffered your first white screen of death, and in desperation you will call your carrier with a string of lies and send it back for a replacement.
Then you start the whole process again...
Have fun... not.

LOL - that is funny, but a little pessimistic.
If you have hacked your Blackjack to shreads, you will have no problem.
Start with MrVanx Upgrade Guides to see the process.
Then, once you have a feel for the bits and pieces of the process, read through the wiki and forums and you will be able to sort through the threds of relavence. It is really not THAT hard once you have done a little homework.
Most important thing - the first thing you should do is upgrade the SPL to Olipro's HardSPLv7 - do that first - that way you can recover from just about anything.
Rest assured, if you have a little experience, educate yourself and follow the guides to get started, your device will work 99% of the time. Don't fret.
I am also one of those new users and my 8525 is coming in a few days but i'm a bit technical about computers so i tend to grab it quickly, i DON'T want to play around with my mobile, i just want to unlock it, then put it to some good windows mobile 6, and then forget about it till windows mobile 7 comes, does that mean i use pof's sim unlocker v3a to unlock my phone...
alternative is Hard-SPL, if thati have seen that making your phone supercid seems dangerous and the safer s true i simply apply hard-spl on my phone? (though i don't even know what it does if its a utility or a piece of code integrated into your phone or a custom bootloader ), after applying hardspl, i simply follow the legitimate official instructions to install TyTN Mobile 6 official rom as if my 8525 was a HTC TyTN?
I just want my final goal to be Mobile 6.0 Unlocked in the safest go...

How do you know that WM5 isn't good enough for you? If the only thing you want on your phone is WM6, why didn't you buy one with this pre-installed? Maybe you should spend some more time reading before you get, and break your new toy - all the best links are already posted above and if you'd read them you wouldn't be posting these questions.

Pessimistic?
That link lists no fewer than five operating systems, for one device, all WM6!!!
Which one works??? This is ridiculous!
This is worse than linux!
...head...spinning...
Thanks for the advice to everyone who gave it... I got my Hermes at 1 this afternoon and it's been sitting on my desk, charging and keeping me from really getting any work done all afternoon. I'm going to assume that all the acronyms y'all are throwing at me will be explained in the wikis...
Don't freak them out guys , get it unlock it install official go to bed happy, if you want to go crazy over installing different versions of roms all the time do so but check the safety steps first (many guides here, Mr. Vanx's is a great place to start) mind you there is no 100% safe option and most of the roms are more or less the same, you can always add cab files of things you want, it's better to stick to a clean rom. If you play with it there might be a chance you screw it... badly (even if you know what you're doing)
Me I just updated the official WM6 (which was released sooooo long later) thankfully in your case you don't have to wait.
Either way congrads on the phone and enjoy it, some small issues aside you have a great piece of hardware there.

welcome... i was like you for a while... i'm a new hermes 8525 owner too... read and learn before you really dive in... understand the terminology and jargon for a while... get used to using your phone in stock mode for a while before moving forward... being familiar with it is important... then the first thing you should install when you decide to is hardspl... good luck...
thanks again to everyone! I have to say that the MrVanx Upgrade Guides link was the best, most helpful thing anyone could have pointed me at - step-by-step instructions to flash my hermes with a new ROM. It was great. The forums also yielded CABs and all sorts of other helpful links that have set me up with a near - perfect phone.
Of course, now I'm bored. what's the next step? 'cooking' my own ROMs? where do I start with that? what are 'kitchens'? I know there's lots out there. thanks again for the help y'all have given!!!

hey now hey now, that's a bit mean. Linux does after all give you the whole house, while Microsoft only gives you the Windows
ok, maybe i'm just causing a bit of trouble hehe... just ignore me hehehe

So, I can't read your nick without thinking of the Lethal Weapon movie with Chris Rock. He was detective Butters or something. Anywa, I digress...
I think your next logical step is one of two paths:
1. Cooking and coding - either for yourself or for a new release, if you come up with something you think is different or cool for the community - home cooked customization apps are quite popular - settings backup/recover solutions too - fewer options out there for that right now
or
2. Documenting - maybe something you could work with MrVanx on if you want to pick up an area that is not well documented adn try to document it for folks
For cooking, start HERE IN THE WIKI and see what you can figure out. I am not sure if all the latest kitchen releases are in here, but it is a good start. Follow the links then do some additional searches - lot's of cool stuff... enjoy...

Trying to make sense of it all! Help!

Hiya,
I know you've heard it before, and i know the answer is to read all of the threads, but i'm getting more and more confused, and don't want to screw up my phone!
I'm having trouble with Orange and text messages. I have tried to read around for the solution, but cannot find the answer in a simple thread.
I believe I have a G4 device, as IPL/SPL are both 2.21.0001. Thats about as far as i've got.
I don't from here know what to do, even after a few days of reading.
Do i need to CID unlock, or can i get around this? Where can i find a rom that will give me all the functionality I have at the moment, but also be compatible with my 3G simcard? Alternatively, can anyone reccomend someone to speak to, as I'm really struggling.i
Like i say, i know its all been asked before, but its such a minefield and I don't want to get it wrong, so if someone could donate the time to give me a real step by step idiots guide, i would really appreciate it.
THanks in advance.

T-Mobile ROM on unlocked 8525 *FLAME SUIT ON*

Ok, I've searched this site/Google/and 2 other pocketpc forums but I'm running out of time...
My friend was kind enough to let me borrow and testdrive his 8525 that he doesn't use anymore. If I like it and can get it to work on T Mobile, I can buy it...if not, he'll take it back and sale it. Great deal huh?
I've got to make a decision by tomorrow, I've managed to
unlock the device
FINALLY flashed a radio version that seems to work (took 6 tries)
upgraded the ROM
Question: Is there a T Mobile ROM that I can flash that will give me the T Mobile apps/wallpaper/etc? If so PLS post the link. I've found different links that look possible, just nothing that's spelled out in plain English for a noob such as myself. Also, as far as enabling MMS/Picture Messaging, is it just a matter of replacing the AT&T connection settings with the T Mobile settings?
Sorry for the simple question, I'm just out of time.
WM5
ROM 2.15.502.3
Radio 1.47.00.10
Protocol 32.80.7020.20H
Ant T-Mob ROM that's not been adjusted or recooked should have all the T-Mob apps and settngs in, inc internet and wallpapers.
Just search the Hermes forum, thread titles only, for t-mob or t-mobile.
As far as enabling MMS etc, the new ROM will do that. If you want to do it seperately, there is a thread somewhere with cabs posted for just about every country and carrier. Was a while ago but a search'll find it.
Sorry I can't just provide the links but I don't use T-Mob.
These are official WM6 Tmo roms:
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=337163
I've flashed the UK one, but skipped the tmo-customisation. Its running unbelievable fast!
thank you
thank you much!
I've searched with just about every form of "T-Mobile" I could think of...the results were just a bit confusing. I think searching thread title only would've helped. :-}
I also wasn't certain that the UK Tmo rom was universal as I'm located in the States, but I think you've answered the question. I'll give it a shot...
Check the sticky about HardSPL in this forum. That will alow you to flash any ROM.
THANK YOU!
Got it...did it...now I'm running WM6 T Mobile (from the UK link)
Just have to figure out how to fix the keyboard without having to mess with the registry (a little over my head), now, back to Searching...

Confused - Please help -.cab/ROM/debrand

I'm sorry, sure you get threads like this a lot from newbies like me, but I am getting a bit confused and there is such a wealth of information that it's all going over my head.
I have some questions that I am sure plenty of you could answer.
I have recently purchased a T-Mobile HTC Touch Plus, I unlocked it using Oli's unlocker.
I have since tried to install the 3 UK .cab file because that is the SIM I have and I want to use the internet/send MMS etc - I use an installer I found through searching this forum and it said that it installed, I have turned the phone on and off and still the MMS wont send - it says it can't connect - have I done something wrong, not done something? How can I sort this out?
Further to this - how do I debrand the phone so the T-Mobile buttons/options are gone? Oli told me it was something to do with ROMs but I don't really understand - what are ROMs? What do they do? How do I install them? And finally, why are there so many, are they different and in what way?
Last thing, is there anything else I should do? Any recommendations?
Thanks so very much, I know there is a lot to answer but I do appreciate it!
thought someone would have responded by now - have a butchers here http://wiki.xda-developers.com/index.php?pagename=HTC_Niki - this will answer most of your questions - in regards to debranding not much to debrand really apart fromt the today screen this can be done by tapping start/ (personal tab) today/ (items tab) and deselecting the t- mobile box, in my case it was orange, and select htc home, hope this helps
