SIM toolkit and Android2.1 ROM - Hero, G2 Touch Q&A, Help & Troubleshooting

Hello,
I try many ROMs with Android 2.1, with Sence UI, but all is without SIM toolkit.
Is some 2.1 ROM with STK?
I try find this forum, but without relevant result.
Only this tread
forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=618491
but instalation fail.
Pleas help me. Thank.

All the current 2.1 ports here are from a leaked CDMA Eris rom.
CDMA does not use sim cards, so no sim tools.
You will need to wait for another port from a sim/GSM phone (legend port??) or the official one from HTC

Actually latest BeHero is a Legend port, so check http://htcpedia.com/forum/showthread.php?t=2196 ....
Then either upgrade or see attachment ( extracted from BeHero 1.3.2 zip )

Ok, BeHero is with SIM toolkit. Thank You very very much.
And now, next sync, next download apps, next setting screen and system,...

No, I have "mono sim".

I am Simemu and I use my Simemu card 6.02 with 10 numbers and it works fine with last Behero and with the last Villain (Legend based).

Visit my page w w w.simemu.cjb.net

Maybe a stupid question but for what do I need that SIM Toolkit?
I have installed traffic states cause I wanted to know why my phone is every few seconds online and that toolkit was one of them. So if I dont need it I would delete it.
Thanks!

It's only used for some networks to let you access billing or premium content, or to control sim card shims like rebelsim.
Huge bump btw. Please try not to bump such an old thread in future

Developers Rom

I have an SX56 from Siemens, and have downloaded the special developers edition ROM. I am wanting to upgrade my phone, but am a little nervous about not being able to use AT&T after the upgrade. Is there anything special that I need to do prior to upgrading the xDA (like writing down settings)?
Eventually I think I may want to switch to T-Mobile...
I suggest you visit the "SX56 GPRS Online Setup Guide", anyhow its always a good idea to note your settings before doing any type of upgrade.
SX56 GPRS Online Setup Guide http://support.attwireless.com/awswls/support/devices/siemens/sx56/setup_guides/ppc2002.jsp
Also its a good idea to do a hard reset before you upgrade and "not" to do
a restore from backup after your done (do a fresh / reinstall all of your programs).
HTH
I would also advise a backup of your existing rom to sd card before flashing a new rom.

How have you found the T-Mobile service to work in Vegas? I have found MANY holes with the AT&T service that result in dropped calls...

The T-Mobile service works great in Vegas & Henderson!
Whereabouts in Henderson do you live (Green Valley, the Downtown Henderson area etc..)?
Henderson
Actually I live in Green Valley not too far from GVP and Sunset... I'm gonna go home tonight and try flashing the phone... although I realized I don't have access to a Unix machine... Guess I'll need to have one of my Unix Admin buddies compile this for me! Unless there's an image already out there?

Phone ROM
Actually I am not sure what version it was... I was running the A.020.xx firmware upgrade... I was able to successfully install the developers ROM, unlock my phone and now have switched completely to T-Mobile..
Now I got a new version of firmware from T-Mobile's website... I attempted to upgrade my phone to that, but had some problems.. What version of firmware are you running?
Radio Stack
Actually I just looked, and my radio stack is A.20.10...

To install that T-Mobile update you'll have to run adaptROM first.

First off i am following this tutorial androidforums.com/all-things-root-hero/54802-how-root-install-custom-rom-backup-more.html which seemed to be the most upto date and relevant.
I think i have Rooted my phone using Instant Root
And what im stuck on is running FlashRec.apk It Just refuses to work (backup), so im stuck, i cant get passed this stage
I heave read something about GoldCard? or something, is this another method?

As far as i'm aware if flashrec doesn't work you need to downgrade, try my guide in my sig for details.
Thats what i thought :/ I don't get it, i haven't installed a single update, and im on 1.5, and i got the phone when it first came out in the UK, so it wouldn't have been updated, unless over the air updates are automatically downloaded and installed without my knowledge or approval?

As you have found out those phones that have network specific ROMS, namely from the carriers named above will find it difficult or impossible to Root using the methods those with non-branded Hero's have.
The only way to install a custom ROM and or root the phone is the following method. As I have had no experiance with this method I am not going to be able to write out any instrcutions of my own, nor am I going to copy and paste someone else's work and take credit for it. Therefore I am providing you with the following link.

I hadnt installed any updates either but i still had to downgrade, and your tutorial worked pefectly
All newish G2 Touches are loaded with a more recent update (although they're still all 1.5.)
This means if you have a new G2 Touch you'll need to downgrade.
I had the exact same issue as you with the backups failing, after searching the internet and using multiple tabs, i finally gained root access, to make life easier for others I created a guide, give it a try, let me know how you get on

Rooting & sim unlocking are totally unrelated. There's no free means to unlock, so you'll have to buy a code.

Questions About Rooting HTC Hero

I recently bought an HTC Hero and the last several days I have been looking to "root" it and put a custom rom on it.
I have the non-cdma, european version of the HTC Hero
Firmware - 1.5 version
Build # - 2.73.405.5
I would like to root it using Windows 7 but I can do it on XP if need be but I have been reading so many different things on you have to have this firmware version or this build number on this operating system so I guess what I am trying to ask is is what would be the best tutorial to follow in order to root my Hero and put a custom rom on it with the info I have given above? If anyone needs any other information just let me know.
Thanks!

Use BTDAG's guide linked in my signature. Read the whole thing through then bookmark it.
And I HIGHLY recommend using an XP machine. I wasted HOURS on my Win7, but worked 1st time on my XP one.
I appreciate the help! I've read through this guide before but I am not sure if I would have to use the "Gold Card Procedure" or not. I'll be using a 1GB Sandisk SD card if that helps.

Just start at the beginning. If it throws up errors then you will need to use the goldcard method. If you do run into problems write down what happens and what error messages you get so guys on here can help out without guessing.
I got it! I installed the Villian rom though. Is there any rom that is better?
For Android 2.1 that comes very highly recommended by a lot of people on here.
Im using MCR3.2 but its 1.5.
But have a play,... swap and change every few days. and do Nandroid backups before you switch.
Have fun.
Im not too impressed with the Villian rom... Its so laggy. Im going to try the MCR3.2 and see how that works out.
You could try mr_bang 2 beta 2, I found it very responsive and 100% functional (no gps or by issues).

Good to know guys. I appreciate all the help. XDA has been good to me ha

[SOLVED!!!] FRF91 Vodafone - Root without unlocking

@moderators: Can we keep this one as the main thread for this topic?
Bad luck for us european N1 owners... all the methods posted until now in different threads on different forums are not working!
We always get a "Main version is older" error message...
So, if someone finds a way to root this damned Vodafone's FRF91, please post the solution here...
//edit: SOLVED!!!!!!!!
check here http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=736271
thankyou guys!
Confirmed, many european users get stuck with this FRF91-Vodafone build during the process for rooting w/o unlock. As i understand the error message is “main version is older update fail”
Please help them

While I don't have a vodaphone version I'm wondering what guides you've followed. Have you followed this one here? Which step or file does it fail on?
It fails before stating XD with the vodafone (europe) version of the FRF91 is impossible to downgrade to ERD79 so we can't follow the tutorial because it need one of the prerelease of froyo.
Forgive my lack of knowledge on the Vodafone based N1 but did they ever have an ERD79 version for them? I'm wondering if there's some sort of check thats in the ERD79 based passimg.zip that's failing on maybe the radio, HBOOT or something else. I'm thinking the vodafone root without bootloader unlock process is going to be ten times different than the US based phones. But then again I'm still pretty new to the nexus but that would be my two cents. Maybe someone else will chime in and enlighten us all.
The original firmware of the european n1 should be the EPF21B but i'm not very sure (mine had the EPF30) maybe it's possible to mod a passimg that is recognize like a EPF21B or a EPF30 but install a ERD79.
I don't know if it's possible because i'm very ignorant about computing etc.
nah there never was a erd79 or any other pre froyo version.
we went directly from epf30 / epf21b to frf91.
i would also be very interested if someone could figure out how we could achieve root without unlocking!
i hope this is at all possible with our versions!
I'm in the same boat as you with regard to the version being older message. I think it's because the H boot is newer or something. Hope someone can help
Froyo FRF91 Vodafone HBOOT is: 0.33.0012 RADIO: 5.08.00.04
Maybe it will help someone...

LOL, what gave it away?
Seriously, I wonder what is the point of wasting time and effort trying to root it using those weird paper clips and battery cuts, when you can just as easily unlock your bootloader, and do it in half the time. Anyway, humour yourselves and have a blast figuring it out!
there is this thing called a warranty...
if the device breaks it would be nice to have htc repair it without hassle and not send it back to us because of an unlocked bootloader...
thats why sherlock!
yes, in few words, warranty is the "problem"... but if nobody can solve, unlock is the way.
I believe its the file that you are using I had the same problem, Try this
this worked for me.
http://shipped-roms.com/shipped/Passion (Nexus One)/
Download the first file PASSIMG_Passion_.zip
rename it to passimg.zip
It takes a second then follow the other thread on how to continue with the process I used paper after cutting up my battery lol a lil piece of paper was ez'est
I have already tried that file, but it didn't work <.<

Me too and didn't work... I suppose that "main version is older" means that the N1 european version first build is the 2.1 epf30 and so you cannot downgrade to previous builds because does not exist or are not supported.

Thank you, I have fixed the DT Ignite Error, However I am still working on the Personalization Screen. Will upload once I have fixed that.
I got a Unfortunately, DI Ignite has stopped
as well, after clicking ok to that, even though it shows 4g network, google account setup fails to continue. Tried pulling the sim and using wifi, but wifi can't seem to get an ip address. I think the network stack is all borked up, possibly the dhcp client isn't running, so the lte and wifi can't accept and ip to work. Then along with the other poster, if I skip the connected setup, I can't get past the personalization page, I get visual feedback on clicking next, but it doesn't continue.

Just curious why you uploaded a rom for the Verizon Note 4 but you tested on an AT&T sim Note 4? Doesn't make sense at all. That's why your rom has not been working.
