Eris rings at loudest volume in pocket - Droid Eris General

I have the 2.1 ROM installed, and when the phone is in my pocket (or the light sensor is covered up), the phone rings at the loudest volume. This is VERY annoying as it scares me and is embarrassing when I am around people. I'm using the "old phone" ringtone.
Is anyone else experiencing this? I have found no toggle anywhere!
Thanks for any help.

Did you try disabling the "Quiet ring on pickup" setting?

I have it currently disabled- I re-enabled it and it still rings UBER loud. I also just flashed to another 2.1 ROM and it is still doing it. I switched ringtones to "Standard 4" amongst others, and they all ring VERY loud. It starts off at the desired volume, but increases significantly until the 3rd ring where it is max volume. If the phone is just sitting on my desk, it rings at the desired volume constantly, but if i cover up the light sensor (any time during the ringing) it quickly goes to the loudest volume. This is getting to be a HUGE problem as this is my work phone and I can't miss calls by not feeling it vibrate, but can't have it ringing at loud volumes in the office!

^ I have the exact same problem! No matter what I have the ring volume set at, it starts out quiet but blasts to full volume. Scares the crap out of me every time!!

I'm at my wits end, this is really annoying! Does anyone know how to resolve this??

Which 2.1 ROM are you using? I'm using the original "leaked" one that doesn't allow rooting and am having the same issue.

I was using the first leaked ROM, and I thought it might be the ROM, so I switched to the "HTC 2.1 Release Candidate (AKA OTA) Leak Rom." Same deal with that one. I might try another one, just in hopes of solving this problem!

Same issue here with the 2.1 HTC OTA one.

I am having this problem too and it is really annoying.

I'm pretty sure it has something to do with the proximity sensor on the phone. However, I don't see a way to disable the volume increase based on that. Perhaps its tied into rosie, since the proximity sensor seems exclusive to HTC.

Saw in another forum that it is a bug in 2.1. I tried the diasble quiet on pickup and that didn't work. Now using Smart Volume Free from the market and that locks in the volume I want. I still was really looking forward to the volume decreasing when I picked it up, not sure if this will help get around it but only solution was Smart Volume for me.

I tried this program, praying that it would work, but the "locked" ring volume is lagged. The phone rings at the loudest ring volume a few times before the "locked" volume takes effect. I guess it's better than full volume the entire time.

bump!! Anyone have a fix for this??

I was just thinking about looking for this thread again and see if anyone found a solution. I am rooted 2.1 and still have this problem. Is there a program or hack to fix this? I just keep my phone on vibrate most of the time because of this.

I downloaded some "Smart Volume" app or something that "locks" the volume, however, it takes a few seconds to kick in after the phone starts ringing. It will ring SUPER loud for 1 or 2 rings then quiet down when the app limits it.

I've resorted to carrying my phone in my pocket when only absolutely necessary and also answering or silencing it VERY quickly once it starts ringing.

SUCCESS! I installed the latest leak (v3) and the issue went away!!!!

[Q] Aria / Android Ringer Volume broken

I have a rooted, Liberted HTC Aria. I can set the volume all the way down to vibrate via the rocker, place it on the table, call it from another phone, and the phone will ring.
When I re-check the volume level it is set to the quietest ring, not vibrate.
I have repeated this over and over as I though I was just accidentally hitting the rocker while it was holstered, but that's not the case.
I've tried downloading volume lock. I set the phone to vibrate and test volume lock to see if it works.
It does, I get a message to confirm new volume level, if i don't it stays on vibrate, as indicated by the vibrate icon.
Then you call the phone... The phone rings and the volume is now set to the quietest ring, not vibrate.
Any ideas, this is a huge inconvenience at work?
Thanks.
Don't know how old this thread is, but I will tell you, you are not going crazy.
I have a vibrant that is rooted and custom rom loaded.
I've had the custom rom for 3-4 months now.
I reloaded some crappy rom, and after I did that, no matter what rom i put on it, I get this ringer problem.
So, no, it's really a problem, you're not imaging it.
So far I can only think that the default build.prop has been funked with.
Or, one of the programs that you installed is messing with it.
I think that it more likely is #1 because on fresh install the phone is fine. But upon reloading all my apps (apps only, no data/ system data), the damn phone will funk up and do the ring crap again.
So, try Odin - to stock and from there, flash a brand new rom and restore one by one.
Sorry mate, that's what I've found, it sucks. I hope you found a solution for this. Like I said, I have a Vibrant, so I don't browse the "Aria" forum at all. I found this thread on GOOGLE.
If you find out anything, PLZ PLZ PLZ, - contact me.

Adjusting call volume problem

Hi guys,
anyone else having problems with adjusting the call volume (while in a call) ?
The screen obviously turns black while in a call, and then, the volume buttons don't work for me...
I have to move the phone from my ear, screen turns on, adjust volume.
This drives me nuts !
Any help is much appreciated.
Yep just noticed this today when I was on a call. Seems strange that you can't do that but you can change the volume of music when the screen is locked?
same thing here. hope they fix it

Correct, it does work for music, I have noticed that as well...
What's up with that ?! Isn't it like the very first thing you should check before releasing a phone to the market ?? Even if it's software related (and it is, in this case) at least the Vendors should test this.
And, I know what I am talking about
I guess that with all the technology, it is forgotten, that above all, well... this is a PHONE.
Hope the fix it.
Ive also noticed that you cant adjust the volume when the screen is locked.
AND every call i make/receive the volume is always at the max and extremely loud. So i have to right away turn it down. That happen for anyone else?

One Annoying thing about the Lumia 800

I like to have my phone so that I can hear it when I get a text or phone call, so have the volume set to 30/30 and on ring and Vibrate.
Problem I have is that when I open an app or youtube vid it comes blasting out so I turn the volume right down, then I forget to put it back up when I exit the app, so I don’t hear my phone ringing.
Am I missing something or is there no media volume setting? Also is it possible to get new notification sounds and ringtones or to set your own, I’ve not put any sounds on the phone yet, and is possible to make the keyboard vibrate when pressed rather than make a noise?
Making the phone vibrate when you use in general is called haptic feedback and as far as i know the Lumia 800 has this only for it's 3 capacitive buttons.
I would search for an app that gives you haptic feedback for the keyboard.
Regarding the sound volume issue...all i can say you are not the only one complaining about this. Nokia/MS should have made two sound profiles. One for the ringtone/notifications and one for the rest. You could try searching for an app...my guess is that some talented dev. will fix this problems much faster than Nokia/MS.
I'm sorry i couldn't give you a better answer, but the thing is the OS is still in its infancy and things will get fixed in time.
I'm confident that you wont have to live with this issues for much longer.
Cheers
Thanks for the response.
I absolutly love the phone by the way in every other way besides the volume issue it is superb.

[Q] ringer volume automatically lowering itself

I have my ringer volume on high and in a matter of a minute the phone automatically moves the ring volume very low. I'm missing allot of calls because of it and I can't figure out why it's doing this.. I had the same problem on my captivate and fixed it by installing volume locker, but I want to know how to stop the problem the right way instead of having to mess with a app to stop it. I searched the forums and turned off the flip upside down to mute feature, but that didn't help..and I seen a bunch of other volume issues but not quite like this one. Thanks for the help in advance.
have the same issue on a international Galaxy Note from Asia
Hey,
I have a international Asian' based Galaxy note that was working fine on the older build of the software i bought back in Nov. I updated my software to 2.36 and the volume issue is a pain in the ass. It doesn't matter if your in Edge Mode or 3G mode.
I find it is not as annoying if you have your headset plugged in but as a stand alone or with speaker phone it is very irritating.
I personally think it is a Software issue either from the Sense UI or Google. I know that ICS Ice Cream Sandwich is coming out here soon so hopefully that may fix it.
good luck.

Ringtone + Notification Volume

Is there a way to turn down the ringtone AND notification volume at the same time? I despise the fact that I have to turn down both volumes separately in the settings when I get to the office....I'm beyond frustrated at such a simple thing.
Every other phone I've ever had, you simply use the volume rocker to lower the ringtone and the notification volume at the same time.
Nobody else finds this frustrating...or has a workaround?
May I suggest using Tasker which would not only take care of both volumes but also do it automatically for you once you get to work (based on GPS location or WiFi network)?

Sorry, I just leave all of my phones on vibrate only 24-7.

I'm the exact opposite. In fact, the main reason I returned the G4 is because it linked the notifications with ringtone volume.

Why not use the smart settings or tasked to do this automatically?
Its funny that the opposite of this (the volumes linked) was one of the big UI complaints with the G4.
Proof that you're damned if you do damned if you don't. Someone's always not going to be happy no matter what.

it's not JUST work where I'd like to be able to quickly turn down notifications and ringtones....... in what instance does someone want notifications volume up and ringtone down...or vice versa? if you lower one, you'll want to lower the other. seems really silly not to link them.

why would you ever want them unlinked? when would you have the ringtone or notifications louder than the other?

again, it's not OLNLY work where I'd like to have quick control of turning both down
I understand your desire, but you also question why would you want them unlinked.
Me personally, I have a ringtone that is much more aggressive than my notification tone. I usually have them set at their own levels, and when I do want to turn them down, I am usually going for silent so I just use the mute to vibrate toggle. I would never want them linked, and would rather a vendor error on the side of giving me options rather than lumping it all in one basket.
I just did a quick search for an app to do what you ask. I haven't tried it, but you could give it a go: https://play.google.com/store/apps/details?id=cz.marextafl.mx.simplevolume&hl=en
Good luck on your hunt.
Since you asked...
I have particularly loud notification sound. Normally it's a good thing since I don't receive that many notifications. However, there are times when I'm out and about and doing some heavier than normal texting or someone includes me in a group text including my mother, 2 sisters and niece.
That's way too much and I immediately turn down my notification volume in that situation.
I wouldn't want to turn everything down and risk missing a call. Just notifications so that everyone around me doesn't stop and give me the stink eye because my phone is going off like crazy. (with the 1up mushroom sound from Super Mario Bros.)
I definitely prefer them to be controlled separately. Having a "main control" that brings down all volumes at the same time is also handy to have but if I had to pick one or the other I'd choose the individual controls.

Ya I like them unlinked too. I get lots and lots of notifications and sometimes I just want them on vibrate while I still want to hear when I get a call. I do this at work all the time.
fair enough.... to each their own I guess
Wait. On the second screen when the main screen is off you can slide from right to left and there's a speaker icon. Tap it to set the phone to vibrate, silent or on. Also, you can set the volume slider in the pull down notification panel. When this is there you can tap the equalizer icon all the way to the right and adjust the ringtone and notification volumes separately.

this isn't just about turning it from speaker on, to vibrate...... this is about lowering both volumes together at the same time
Well. Sometimes I like my call volume higher than my notifications. This is also not a V10 issue. I believe that this is the way Android itself handles the volume controls. The only device I know of that has one volume for all sounds is Apple's iPhone.

Some older android phones had them stuck together... it may of been an OS thing or a manufacture thing. I do know at one point they had a checkbox to unlink them, and man was that a good day.
