Is the x10 worth buying? - XPERIA X10 Q&A, Help & Troubleshooting

Hey guys, I really love the x10 and have read many reviews about it. There are many pros/cons about it, especially with the whole underlying 1.6 OS and no multitouch, trouble with keyboard, etc..
From the people who have had a inside perspective on the X10, are you guys quite happy? I use a cell phone mainly for music and text messeging, and need a phone with a good processor that does not lag, and have good phone qualities( calling, multitasking, etc.) .
Any replies will help.

This is my first proper Android phone. I used my brother G1 for a bit on the standard OS 1.6.
I went ahead and got the X10 mainly due to its hardware specs and the hope that it would get rooted and upgraded to 2.1.
However, I am absolutely blown away by the phone and its capabilities and it doesnt bother me its running 1.6 and not 2.1

I agree, it was hard for me to choose between the Desire and the X10. In the end I choose the X10 because of the design, bigger screen and camera. However I was afraid the X10 felt old because of the Android 1.6. Now after 3 days of use if let's say SE won't release the update it won't bother me at all. This phone is an absolute stunner!

my sentiments exactly. the SE customisations really make all the difference. i thought i'd not enjoy it much because of older version of android and the fact that HTC Sense UI was getting lots of good reviews, but damn, its amazing.
one warning though- the battery life is horrible, there are lots of people experiencing really bad battery life. Its unsure why this is happening, but one theory is the phone hardware wont go into a low power state, at idle consuming almost as much power as the screen at max brightness.
still waiting to see if the software update resolves this. its the only major problem, if not the only problem i've experienced so far.

Couldn't agree more. Hopefully SE will relase a fix. But yeah, I love the X10!

The biggest question: SE will make a PRO version for X10 (like X10 mini/X10 mini pro) ?

Probably not. But it's a great idea!

cool thanks for the replies. how's the stock keyboard?
can i go into landscape mode for my SMS automatically?

I concur, this is a stunning phone.
I don't -however find this phone to have worse battery than my iphone/n1/hero.
For the keyboard, yes it works in landscape, but the keyboard app is a bit slow, so I'm using smart keyboard pro, and it works as a charm

Yes you can!
About the keyboard: SE really screwed it up, I had a lot of missing strokes with the stock keyboard and the word prediction sucks. I replaced it with this keyboard which can be found in the Nexus One Section:

It's way better than the stock SE one. No more missing keys for me
It's the same as this HTC keyboard but then skinned to match the X10.

Exactly how I feel. This is my first android phone, so it didn't matter much to me what version OS it had, all i can say is it puts the X1 to shame.
Its so fast, I've noticed no lagging at all using menus etc. Been using the SE keyboard, I get the occasional typo but I'm still getting used to it tbh.
Was a bit apprehensive when watching Youtube vids with reviewers saying it was laggy and the keyboard sucked(i know you can change that anyway!) but the phone has really impressed me.
Definitely recommended.

x10 sony or x6 nokia
which one should i go for.
how bad is battery life on x10

About the batterylife, for me its excellent! I can use it for a full day which includes alot of browsing and listening to music. It is however my first android so i cant compare it to another phone

Hello guys!
I have one question about this phone. I realy don't feel to make a new therad about it so I leave it here.
I want to buy this phone, I'm getting bored of Leo, and I mainly use my phone for texting and music. The SMS issue drives me CRAZY! So, I want to try this phone out. But I have one quesiton; can I sync this with my Hotmail? I mean with contacts, inbox etc. This is a must for me, all my contacts are on my hotmail account.
Thanks in advance

Im pretty sure X10 is going to be my phone now. I just got a couple of more questions
Does the android market 1.6 have a lot of good games on it? And do many quality 3d games require multitouch?
Thanks for the help guys, you overall gave me good insights on the phone.

Well, i was pretty sure will be my phone too but today i saw this:
http://www.engadget.com/2010/04/11/samsung-galaxy-s-hits-the-fcc-with-atandt-bands-onboard/
Now, i'm in doubt.
4" super AMOLEd, multi touch, divx & h.264, HD video, etc.
Now, is only 5mp camera it seems but if is better than the HTCs cameras ... everything will be fine
What i don't know is if it has radio but i have a MW600 BT so, it won't be a problem but the worst part is: camera without flash.

the quality of cameras on samsung devices tend to be top class. with technology, as always if you wait you'll always find something better around the corner. so if you dont need a new phone now just wait and get one when you do. It'll be better than the X10 for sure since its coming out summer/autumn. Thats a long time in phone years.
Tunay: Yes, you can sync with hotmail. However having a gmail account is better if you have an android phone because android supports push gmail, so you get your email instantly on your phone just like a blackberry.
i've certainly been impressed with the X10 so far, i'm liking it more than the nexus one. Although i'm missing a few things from windows mobile.
X10's capture light isnt fantastic, and as far as i know there are no android devices with xenon flash yet.

I can do this on my HD2 now, I get mails instantly. Won't this be possible with X10 with an hotmail account ?

i havent tried with my hotmail account as i dont use that for mail- just for MSN. Maybe someone else can confirm.
As far as i know windows mobile is the only one with push hotmail? Im not sure though.

I'll wait for someone else to givve me a answer then. If push hotmail does not work, this phone is useless for me.

ROM suggestions, need some guidance please

Guys,
Sometime this week gonna revert back to eclair via odin for a few reasons, boy I wish I knew this place existed before using samsung kies mini to update to 2.2.
I want to get back to 2.1 get it the way I want it, nandroid that puppy then move on to a new rom. I assume this will be my emergency fall back should things go wrong when the experimenting starts.
I originally went to 2.2, rooted, via titanium backup removed lots of bloatware, never really thinking to back things up in case or anything. Then found out today via MUCH reading (after my clockworkmod recovery install failed due to signature issue) and finally made my first post to find out that the 3e recovery would not allow me get the recovery console changed, etc etc. I hope that sounded right.
It will be a good learning experience so heck, why not.
My real question is this, since I am new to the rom scene, I would like some suggestions on first time rom users.
I am not a heavy user at all, I don't play games, I don't watch tv on the phone, I don't facebook or social network or anything along those lines. I don't use the GPS, etc etc. I don't use email on the phone, rather I go to my web mail instead.
All I do thus far is make calls, txt and go on the net to my usual places. For every app I had interest in on the market, I can just go to a website, basically checking weather and things like that.
Any suggestions on a good solid proven rom that does what I need but is bug free as possible. I don't think I am ready for cutting edge stuff yet.
I keep my phones simple, black background, no fancy animations of any kind. I like minimal and that also helps with battery life etc etc.
Please point me in the right direction. I checked the development section and there are so many to choose from, I am not sure really what I am reading about half the time. All this stuff with improved modems, kernels and such.
Just want to start the learning process and get my feet wet with a nice solid rom for me to explore and maybe start to take advantage of what the phone has to offer.
Thanks for listening to my verbal diarrhea btw
ps - most interesting is that I am a die hard linux user other than at work, all home pc's and laptops have it. I am pretty well versed in dealing with linux so I hope this will be easy to pick up over time.
edit I keeping reading that bionix 1.3.1 is pretty darn good and stable, what ya think? I see on their website there is touchwiz and gingerbread editions, not sure what the difference is?
bionix is a good start for a noob!
First of all, welcome. My laptop is running Debian and ODIN friggin hates it! I always have to go to my PC running XP to get ODIN to werk when I goof something up. Just a tip. As for a stable ROM Bionix is a great choice for a first flash. I personally have always been a big fan of MALICE. There are tons of options as you can see and everyone has their own opinion. Good luck!

Thanks guys, after doing more reading last night, I think bionix will be my first go. Gonna odin back to 2.1 today at work, do the usual steps, nandriod it, then jump into bionix.
Despite being nervous, I hope it goes fine
kawika: yep, will doing everything at work on my xp machine
I've had good luck with Project V as well.
Check out ZenDroid too. Very slim and snappy. And ECOTOX's DragonMOD kernels are fantastic for battery life and performance too.
Sent from my SGH-T959
i went with simply galaxy first and pretty much been with it since, iv tried loads of roms for a few days here and there but none of them seem to have the same feel that simply galaxy did as soon as i tried it
and touchwiz is like stock is and gingerbread is like ..... with the 3d app drawer, i prefer touchwiz but thats just me

I would recommend Project V, its pretty fast and stable. And for the kernel, Super Dragonmodz if you want stability and performance, but OK battery life, and Bali's 1.8.6UV if you want battery life, but OK performance.
With regards to galaxy and project V, how is the stability, like I mention, I am a very light user and don't do much other than call, txt and use the web, maybe take a pic here and there or hd video but not often? I have been reading through different rom threads and all seem to have small issues, nothing serious but would like to install something that I don't have to uninstall right away.
I am back to 2.1, already rooted, bloatware removed and backup created and done via clockworkrecovery console.
So, I am just about ready to start playing but don't want to go to crazy trying different roms every few days.
Thanks for your comments BTW
The stability I've had on Project V is near perfect. No FCs, etc. I'd have to say of the ROMs I've used recently (including CM7 which is fun to play with and is pretty stable but just not my cup of tea right now) Project V has been the one that I like the best.
CM7 is fun being AOSP but having played with it, there are things that Samsung did that I actually prefer so Project V fits my needs well.
I installed bionix touchwiz just to get my feet wet since I really couldn't make up my mind. It's nice, fast, only problem is can't update superuser but not really a big deal.
I am sure shortly I'll move to one of the others you guys recommended.
Process was pretty straight forward so now all my nervousness is gone in terms new rom installs and such.
i was like that at first
was thinkin about it like a week then finally did it lol
Welcome to our world, prepare to become a flash addict. It really is simple and remember ODIN is your friend. Although its alot like your drunken friend that doesn't like to listen all the time and you gotta slap him around to get it to werk right sometimes and he's a mean drunk too not a funny sloppy drunk.
As to Project V - I've only been running it for a day now and everything runs fine for me no bugs as of yet. Only issue for me is I HATE THE PINK TMOBILE CRAP! boot and shutdown. It was the reason I first rooted and started playing with my phone, I had to get that off it. Now I've been so spoiled with bootanimation.zip's that I can't remember how to get rid of it, LOL. Oh well, as is life I just miss my XDA bootanimation. Glad you got it figured out!
Yep, it's just like modding my subaru, once it starts the mod bug never ends, hahahaha.
So played with bionix a bit and realized it really does look like froyo but with some nice added touches and runs nicely.
So, of course, as you said, I can see lots of flashing in the future eventhough, half the roms, I don't really understand all the tech stuff they put in the OP.
One more question, of course, using any future rom, is it always best to odin back to 2.1 before going with a new rom?
I see in other rom threads that ppl just flash over the current rom to a new one, sometimes with success, sometimes not. Some ppl clear all the caches as well? what's your guys take on this or is it best to use the directions that are normally clearly posted in the makers OP?
So again, can't thank you guys enough, I am sure I will chime in here and there with more questions, hopefully not ones due to mistakes LOL!
doesnt hurt to flash over the top, i havent had any problems
i started by going back to 2.1 but then odin had a spaz and froze on me for like 10 min so i unplugged and was hard bricked, had to take it to get fixed so now i dont odin unless i have to
if its going to freeze you want it to be at the beginning, can get it back from there it was doing the last thing for me when i hard bricked
i just..
factory reset/wipe data
clear cache
flash
advanced menu
wipe dalvik
fix permissions
go back
reboot, leave for 10 min
reboot again
some roms just say wipe then flash and reboot but i still go through all that just to make sure it goes ok, only takes like 20 sec more

I couldn't agree more with everything in this post. ODIN is rarely called upon for me unless I borked something up and need saving or if I flash 2.3 or higher. The only thing I do different is I always flash a ROM with my battery at 100% and in the advanced menu I also do the clear battery option. Also after initial reboot I let it sit 15min then turn off completely without doing any setup and then let it sit again for another 10min. Every time I flash a new ROM I don't use the phone for at least 30min just letting it sit and reconfigure. Good luck!
*TIP* If you find issues with data or reception try flashing different modems. These are easypeasy just flash in CwRecovery no need for any clearing of stats or any real precautions just flash the duck outta them! Kernels are the same way.
*Suggestion* Step up your car game bro! If you like the all-wheel scene you should really get into Audi quattro! (Shameless plug, I werk for Audi)
*My friends suck* At least ur attempting to read the OP's man. I've rooted a few of my friends phones and none of them will read the OP's. They all call me asking about crap for their phones like my opinion and I'm like "READ THE OP! I have no clue about ROMs/bugs for your phone, nor do I want to" they all say "frack that, I'm just gonna flash it" OMG! so kudos to you sir!
Thanks for the added info guys
kawika: there is no way I could ever afford an audi despite me loving some of the current models that are out, I would be more than happy to get as a gift anything with an RS in front of the number LOL.
Subaru's have a distinct sound and feel that can't be found in most other cars. The boxer flat fours are very cool engines, and the boxer "BURBLE" as we call it has such a distinct sound, it's hard not to know when one is passing you buy. Yeah sure, there are some heavily riced ones out there, but most of tastefully mod them.
I'm more old school about things, I try to read and learn before asking the questions.
I read so much the first day or so being on the board that I got a headache between all the roms and info on rooting, flashing, etc etc. The amount of info is just unreal, which is awesome!!!!
Before I found xda, I can't remember how I found it, I was using google to find info and I didn't really trust all the info out there. So XDA is my android home and you can't beat the ppl here
So now that we got all the warm and fuzzy stuff out of the way, LOL, I think this weekend I'll jump into Project V and give that a whirl

A ROM review/comparison should be in general, not development.
Can you move the thread for me then. I wouldn't mind if you moved it....that's cool with me.

That was the most pointless "review" ever. Added absolutely nothing. You use CM7, you don't really use anything else, you don't even know what the differences are...Do a little homework before you write a comparision

I agree
If you haven't tried a ROM, Don't say anything about it. I personally have tried all the ROMs except for Perception and Cognition. CM7 MURDERS my battery and lacks basic features that I need everyday. UnNamed/Serendipity 8 both give good battery life, fast speeds, and essential features for me.

I guess that, those issues might just be your phone. I'm running CM7 and I get much better battery using that than I do on a debloated stock rom. What are the other "essential" things that don't work? The only essential thing that is somewhat of an annoyance is the bluetooth. CM7 won't connect if the phone is in deep sleep. If the screen is on it will connect. Not a big deal.

I get 12 hours of Med usage on UnNamed. I get 3.5 hours on CM7. On BBS, the majority of the time was spent in deep sleep, yet the battery still drained like crazy. I dislike the feel of the generic apps in CM7, the camera app is super fuzzy, the Bluetooth, and lack of KIES support to restore contacts and notes.
Sent from my SAMSUNG-SGH-I777 using xda premium
I didn't even realize BBS reported deep sleep stats... You sure you don't mean CPUSpy?
I've learned at this point not to trust BBS. At this point, BBS is only useful for identifying userland wakelocks on ROMs that hide userland wakelock details from the kernel. (I9100 ROMs, not sure about CM7 - I777-derived ROMs report userland wakelocks individually to the kernel instead of lumping them under PowerManagerService.) As an example, BBS completely fails to report kernel wakelocks.
It has always been my experience that CM7 will beat nearly any Samsung-derived ROM except for the most aggressively debloated ones (such as Serendipity VII on Infuse - S7 was slightly better than CM7, but not by much.)
So far, 90% of the time if a user reports excessive drain, either they installed a bad app, or they diddled with attempting to calibrate their battery, which on our devices does nothing except cause the fuel gauge to briefly "blip" below the alarm threshold on boot, causing a permanent wakelock on kernels without this fix:
https://github.com/Entropy512/linux_kernel_sgh-i777/commit/fc9eb85807302583259e27013ed184a43107bb67
Which reminds me, I need to pull request that to atinm/codeworkx and company.
Edit: FYI, CPUSpy stats are bogus right after boot. Gotta reset the timers after you've booted to get good info.
CyanogenMod 7.1 rom
After testing and comparing all these custom roms found in XDA for SGS2 i777
this is what I found after extensively testing the CyanogenMod 7.1 rom.
If you want to retain all the features of the camera's interface and video part of the
phone it's best to stay away from CM7 until the DEVS finally fix it.
I have been testing CM7 ever since I first purchased my Samsung Captivate then with
Samsung i997 Infuse and now with my new SGS2 i777 phone.
GTG's UnNamed v1.04 custom rom is by far a lot better than the CM7 rom & after much
extensive testing and comparing I have found the UnNamed rom to be the best currently
available custom rom for our phones.
Unlike the CM7 rom the UnNamed rom achieves the full & steady 30fps video recording
according to the specifications of the phone.
The user interface of the UnNamed rom's camera interface is also cosmetically speaking
by far the very best looking currently available for our phones at this time.
It does not have any missing features or user settings like CM7 currently has.
CM7 is not ready for prime time yet especially if video recording and camera user interface
(UI) are things which are important to you.
There are many missing features and settings in CM7's camera user interface as well as
not being able to auto-focus continuously during video recordings.
CM7 still cannot achieve the full continuous & steady 30fps while recording video.
So home made recordings when played back will not be super smooth and will not
achieve the video standards according to the specification of the phone.
This is strictly my personal opinion so take it for what it's worth. (most likely less than 2 cents)
But it's up to you guys, YOU decide !!!
If you hardly ever use the camera at all or just don't care about it then CM7 is fine.
(personally I use my camera a lot and video recording is very important to me.)

If video recording is important to you, you shouldn't be using the phone's camera at all.
Compared to even the most basic Canon point-and-shoot, the camera in any cell phone is a crappy toy.

I know that, I never claimed that our phones were anywhere near up to par
with something even as basic as a Canon Point and Shoot.
However to get the MOST out of our phones capabilities for those of us who do
care about photo and video quality but do not want to walk or drive around with
a seperate camera in our pockets all the time then this phone really is the next
best thing. The camera part of our phone even rivals the Nokia N8's camera.
So why cripple a $500-$600 camera phone with sub-par firmware by choosing
any firmware which degrades any part of our phones especially the camera?
(that's unless as I have stated in my previous post that you don't care about the camera)
I've tried CM7, Cognition X2, UnNamed, Perception, and Serendipity 8. CM7 I used for a couple of days but was just missing too many features for me. Cognition X2 was very good and stable, but the expanded power options were not there. UnNamed was a favorite and unused that the longest. Perception, I lost TouchWiz, and the new version I think is pretty slick. I am currently running Serendipity 8, and I really like the minimalistic approach. This ROM intrigued me since it has Display Mode. UnNamed has that now too so I may go back to it. Battery life on UnNamed seemed to be the best for me. Although others will probably say Serendipity 8 will provide better battery as it takes out the most bloatware.
So I'm for either UnNamed or Serendipity 8. Can't really go wrong with either. Seems to be very similar to each other.

Anyone else thinking of ditching there s3?

Ive had my s3 for 2 weeks now and I look at my s2 and think what a waste.
Don't get me wrong the phone is amazing and is top spec at the moment but im now having doubts that it is a massive difference than my s2.
Now I don't need you to reply with all what its got cos I know all about it.. But I think that there just isn't enough change in the software to make it exciting?
Ie the video that you can have open while your texting? Have you used it? Yes the full screen is ok for watching a movie on the train ect but do you really need to multi task that badly?
Before you start to get all defensive I love Samsung Ive had all 3 now but I really think I can live without the small plus points of the s3?! Notification light is ace and the battery life but other than that? Can't say im to fussed.
Because we are lucky enough to be able to change the look of the phone being android it looks the same as the s2 and no doubt I can make the s2 look like the s3. When I get a new phone I want it to stand out from the older models and be new and have visual differences.
So im thinking of selling up and going back to my s2 until something comes out that will make me happy.
What do you think?

Do what makes you happy man. I was considering getting an s3 but right now I'm having fun giving my s2 the s3's features. I have s voice working flawlessly. Will I eventually get an s3? Maybe. But right now I'm not pressed.

Dude, don't change phone within 3years because you will never find any big difference. All the phones in this world only have small incremental upgrade every 5-6 months. People change phone every year simply because they are spoiled enough to spend recklessly or they are just too rich and boring or they just want to prove they are tech geek.

Spare a thought for the iPhone users. They've had the same software UI since the first release.
I actually half agree with you... In my opinion I prefer the size of the S2 compared to the S3 (just a matter of getting used to i guess). In terms of normal daily usage, there isnt too much of a difference in terms of speed (however the S2 obviously has had a lot more time for development etc) and this will probably change in the coming months as developers work their magic for the S3. The battery and LED light are great additions as mentioned though so far it hasn't seemed to be major upgrade (not that I really expected it to be). While im not going to ditch my S3 (love having the latest and greatest) I do understand those that have 'upgraded' from a S2 and would prefer that few hundred dollars instead.
Also the audio quality was rather mediocre on the S2 unlike the S3 - another reason ill be keeping the S3.
Sent from my GT-I9300 using Tapatalk 2
It depends. I've come from an S2 and I do like the touchwiz UI. One of the reasons I haven't switched over to AOKP is because it's the same look along all platforms and then it just feels like I'm still using the S2. Do what you feel like but i suggest you hold on to the S3 simply because it's the newer one.

Although the GS3's by far the best smartphone i've ever used, yes, i'm thinking about ditching it and getting the Note back - mainly because of the poor standby battery it gets with my network.
And yes, i've tried all roms and modems, kernels, hacks and rests - and 2 different GS3's - but it just does NOT play well with my network. Screen time remains good when used at a stretch.
it's vital i stay connected to my work email at all times on data. Too many fast dormancy related wakelocks + moderate use = Dead battery at the end of the workday - compared to around 40 to 50% battery left with identical usage on the same SIM with the Note.
Going to wait another month or so for possible modems with better compatibility but it doesn't look good and i hate reverting to my painful-to-use 4S to get me through the day.
PS: just reiterate, i am not making a generalization about the GS3's better, just relating what i experience with my network.
Yeah. it's awfully buggy, and I can't do things I took for granted anymore... mainly the phone is so poor at meaningful multitasking that music whist browsing causes horrendously regular cut outs. I think s2 is a better phone - I'd go back if it wasn't for being embarrassed at accepting that I chose a duff new phone (plus my missus has the s2)

Im begining to think getting my S3 was abit of an impulse buy,id only just got a HTC sensation XE which imo is a very good phone, and tbh im thinking that i didnt need a S3
some of the things on this samsung drive me crazy, the screen tint,no mass storage mode, trying to drag photos or videos off the phone is a mare because of the lack of thumbnails,i really hate that !
There doesnt seem much i can do on the S3 that i couldnt do on the XE,the only added feature of the s3 ive really made use of is the taking photo shots while recording video,im going to keep the S3 but getting abit of buyers remorse now lol
Upgrading every fow months or even once a year is a mugs game, only the phone manufacturer wins, coming from the Desire HD its well worth upgrading but if I had the S2 I dont know, its far from obsolete, dont think id be disappointed though
Well im glad im not the only one. Oh and the zero shutter lag is great but I can live without it

Maybe I'll give it a go - though I'd rather use a browser that handles flash. Annoying that pure stock just doesn't work though..

I use Chrome and Spotify and they don't crash at all. I tend to use mobile versions of sites but do occasionally use full ones.
This is on wifi, not sure if it makes a difference over the network. I'll have to try it.

[DISCUSSION] Thoughts on your new One?

What are your opinion and thoughts on this phone?
Sent from my Nexus 7 using Tapatalk 2
I'm loving it!! Very fast, the speakers are great. A few things I'd like improvement on would be the rss feed choices for the home screen and I'm not fanatic about Beats Audio through headphones. Although I may throw a custom Rom on it hehe. The feel is perfect, not to heavy and not too light unlike the galaxy 3 which feels cheap.
Already extremely please with this phone and TMobiles service.
I have it since monday it's great! I'm coming from the HTC mytouch so it's really an incredible difference . The camera it's great as well and battery is lasting a lot

anybody else got the HTC ONE ?
its a huge adjustment coming from a pure google nexus 4. here are just some minor random notes:
- the build quality is great, but the phone feels rough on the sides like they havent been sanded down. ditto for the earplug hole. NOT A BIG DEAL.
- either i got a phone with zero gap or people are seeing things on their phones. again NOT A BIG DEAL.
- phone is loud for a phone, not for radio. compared to other phones, its awesome.
- beats audio doesnt come through on the speakers. you get no bass from the speakers. performs elegantly with earphones plugged in.
- the car dock is amaaaazing. must-have.
- the car mode is really well done. you can choose to listen to local radio stations through wireless with tunein. you can also add other apps to car mode home. navigation gives you google maps, appointments, gas station, restaurants, by photo, parking (parking structures), cafes, bars, atm, convenience store, pharmacy shopping and emergency.
- htc should have made the logo a real button. yes, its capacitive and we will be able to use it as a real button, but it doesnt light up like the back and home buttons and generaly looks out of place.
- facebook/twitter/messaging integration on sense is really well done. better then most alternatives ive seen.
- wish you could scroll diagonally on the apps drawer.
- wish you could turn off the feed.
- wish you could use your own icons on sense home.
- thought the notification light was going to be bigger. they used a hole on the grill to insert the light. but at least they included it.
- tmobile bloatware... ugh.
- everything is superfast and super responsive. havent seen a touch of lag yet.
- screen is amazeballs. dont know if its placebo effect, but it seemed to have looked better after 3-4 hours of usage. dunno if thats the screen warming up or my eyes getting used to it.
- really gritting my teeth at this s-on s-off thing, never had to deal with it before with samsung and nexus phones. but i knew what i was getting into.
- camera is VERY nice. havent had enough time to play around with it but it seems to snap photos very quickly and clearly.
- already feeling the effects of having run 4.1.2. coincidentally the first two apps i tried to install on the phone, creditkarma and dashclock dont work on 4.2.1, just 4.2.
- more apps then i care to number still have the menu button at the bottom, including facebook. little silly that you can run facebook home on the phone but the option bar takes up 1/5th of the screen.
- i sorely miss the aosp notification bar, although sense's isnt bad.
- phone gets pretty toasty after moderate usage.
- i can hold the phone comfortably but i have huge hands. still have to hold the pinkie at the bottom of the phone to keep it up.
I just wanted to upload 3 images comparing the Nexus 4 camera with and without flash to the HTC One without flash.
I am impressed with the camera so far! They were taken without trying to make them look nice just to see what it would be like in a moments notice to take an image.
Just got back from the shop with mine. First impressions:
-Thoroughly gorgeous, and feels perfect in hand. Nice weight - lighter than I was expecting but still totally solid.
-Screen is amazing. Razor sharp, bright, with great viewing angles and none of that AMOLED-turns-blue-if-you-tilt-the-phone nonsense.
-No gaps. (Serial FA34CW if anyone's interested).
-Power button is a little tricky to reach for me one-handed. I can just two-hand it though, not a big deal. Don't have any issues with the two-button arrangement.
-Haven't had a chance to try out music on it yet, but I got a call and I flinched, it was so loud. Vibration also seems very strong.
-Blinkfeed is nice to have, but I could see it being overwhelming if that was my only homescreen. I pushed it off to the side so I can look at it if I'm bored. Otherwise, I really like Sense 5 - nice clean design, all the stock apps have the Holo-style "view pager", and in general it just works great.
-Performance is excellent - this thing really flies.
-Typical T-Mobile bloatware. Disabled almost immediately.
-Haven't had a chance to use the camera yet. Still have to do some experimenting (and don't really want to take pictures of the random crap on my desk).
Overall I'm highly impressed. I think that, if HTC fails (knock on wood/fingers crossed that doesn't happen), it will not have been for a lack of trying, at least on the product side. They have the superior product - now they need to get the word out.

Settings>Apps, then swipe sideways to "All", then scroll through the list. When you find something you don't want, tap it and then tap "Disable". Tap "OK" when the "app may misbehave" pops up, and then repeat as desired. A couple of them (SoundHound and TunedIn Radio) can be fully uninstalled, but most can't unfortunately. Oh well, such is life with a operator-branded device. Kind of a pain but AFAIK this is the only way to sort-of get rid of them without root.
Roo is already available just unlock you bootloader and install twrp or cwm and then you can install supersu. That's what I did, then installed ti backup and uninstalling those first haha

Great phone, the tmobile version is the one to get: using an AT&T unlocked 64GB with T-Mobile gets me edge in supposedly "refarmed" areas more often than not, while the T-Mobile version always shows HSPA+.
Best phone i've had.
One thing that I hate though, why why why why why must I have Facebook crap in my gallery after loggining in!
went straight to unlock bootloader > flashed custom recovery > flashed ARHD 7.0 > now sitting on charge. love how it feel in hands
Is their a way to root with a mac?

So flashing the ROM's available for the other versions works? I suppose since the hardware is essentially the same, it wouldn't matter as long as the radio is kept, right?

As for changing the Sense Icon's you can, I have done it, you just need to root the device and do a lot of work.

You can only flash roms that are designated for the HTC One M7 device. However, there are some issues with the signal properly reporting and other issues.

Thanks. Haven't had a chance to dig around the forums yet now that we finally have our own section, so I wasn't sure.
I'm kinda surprised that the M7 ROM's are fine but not the AT&T ones. I'm coming from the S2, where we used AT&T ROM's frequently (with a proper kernel of course).

Galaxy s6 edge still get lags / stutters

Hi, i been using sim free s6 edge 64gb for 2 weeks now, i have moved from the HTC M8 it still runs same as the fast day i received it
always been worried about slowdown over time with samsung from past experiences, it still loads apps fast hope this continues , i actually like touchwiz look and menus
but i do get slight lags and stutters, for an example i have bbc news app as a widget when scrolling through the widget its not very smooth, on my htc m8 its smooth, once in the app its smooth
also when on flip board then scroll right to get back into homescreen then another right scroll to get bbc new widget, it wont let me scroll, i have to always give it a second go for it to scroll, when disable flipboard its fine
another thing i noticed, when looking at the edge for time, news etc and flipping it over then going back into home screen, the phone will always re draw homescreen ,
i know these are little things, but they do bother me as this is such a high spec phone and alot of money, i have used in the past HTC M7 and M8 and they run super smooth and they still do,
i have in past used galaxy s2, s3 ,s4 note 3 all had same issues, i was hoping samsung would have sorted this now but guess not, dont get me wrong the phone is great, rapid charging, takes great pictures, fingerprint works so well, its faster then using a PIN / Pattern , the M9 i know will run super smooth, but it didnt excite me coming from HTC M8
Thanks
I have the same issues phone is two days old and it's very Lagg don't really know what to do
mines not super laggy, but there are them issues, i dont have much apps syncing etc and only use official apps, the setup is the same i had on the HTC M8, its annoying samsung cant get this right, in a ideal world HTC software smoothness on Galaxy s6 hardware that would be the best phone
I did have a bit of lag here and there from time to time and installing L Launcher fixed it completely.
How often do you reboot your phone?
I used to have redraws and a bit of lag. A factory reset took care of it. Must have been due to the incremental update we had when we first bought the phone.

Yes, even though the phone is a beast, touchwiz is still touchwiz, so it lags sometimes. I usually notice it when surfing the Web using the native browser, chrome is even worse. But I'm loving the phone, have hopes that 5.1.1 will iron out these small issues.

I can appreciate having to tweak some things, and I don't use flip board or briefing app or whatever it's called but we SHOULD NOT have to turn everything off on a phone that costs this much $$$$$ and supposedly has the best specs in the world!
I know the best way to stop ALL LAG...turn the stupid thing completely off and toss it in a drawer!
I too had an M8 that I sold to get this thing and my wife still has her M8 and it runs as smooth as melted butter in a Teflon skillet! This thing...the edge...not quite there yet. Either Google or Samsung better get their act together soon or they will never see another dime of my money!

I'm in the same boat. Considering the specs of this phone is much better than my Note 3 (which did not lag much), it's inexcusable that the slowdown is this awful.

Hi, i sold my HTC M8 to buy this, M9 hardware didnt excite me, but i bet it runs super smooth, after watching the galaxy s6 edge presentation on how they stopped lag and faster then ever, i had to try it and i aint pleased its still there, dont get me wrong this phone is a beast, battery life better then M9, when its smaller and running 2k screen, and how fast it charges, and i love amoled screens, its got so much going for it, just wished there sorted the software side out, i actually dont mind touchwizz look and menus,
