Difference Xperia X10i and X10a - XPERIA X10 Q&A, Help & Troubleshooting

Hello, can someone pls explain to me the difference between the xperia x10i and the x10a. And is one better than the other? thanks

x10a is the american version x10i is the european version.

I live in the usa, should i be concerned that i just purchased the x10i. Will it hinder any of the features and such? And thanks for your quick reply.

i think you use Edge instead of 3G..

the difference is the radio bands, you should be fine if your cell phone provider supports the same cell radio as the phone. I have a 10i and I get 3G with T-mobile usa

The X10a works with AT&T 3G in the US and Rogers in Canada, while the X10i 3G works with Tmobile in the US and, I believe, Wind in Canada. The x10i will work with Edge on AT&T and the x10a will work with Edge on Tmobile.

Very helpful guys thx

Where do i get one here in the states at a reasonable price? X10i...

X10a FOR TRADE OR SALE IF IT HELPS YA!
I actually have an Xperia X10a that is newr new and MINT! However, I can't use it here in Canada on my Wind network Sooo if anyone out there wants to trade their X10i for my X10a...give me a shout!

I have a new X10i (used for a couple of days) I would love to trade so I can get my at&t 3g going

Some differences
So given the fact that ive used both X10a and X10i firmwares (accidentally ) I have noted some differences between the two. Firstly it should be noted that the X10i firmware I was using was - X10i Generic UK (R1FA016) -, and the current X10a firmware im using is - X10a Generic America BR (R1FB001).
Here are some things ive noticed that seem to function differently between the two.
1) I use Qik a lot to share vids with distant family. With the X10i FW I could use the "high quality" video setting and with the X10a I cannot.
2) With X10i I had access to the "auto internet settings" feature and with the X10a I do not.
3) Handcent. Works fine on both but with the X10i I had no problems with all the customization features like setting background images and with the X10a when trying to use images for background it causes FC every time.
4) Battery life. Seems to have been better with the X10i FW. Don't know what thats about but Ive definitely noted a difference.
Seems odd to me that these types of things would occur between the different FW versions?? Especially considering that the generic X10a R1FB001 is actually a newer version as I understand it.
Anyway just thought that id share that with all.

I live in Europe now, and I bought my X10i in UK, but from time to time I go to USA and Colombia to visit my family. Is there any way to get 3G instead of EDGE working there (besides the provider). I dont know a lot about this but If I flash the phone should I have to choose X10a or X10i and I can switch it? or it is pre-factory determined?
thanks for your help

maybe we have a difference of memory ram

At the moment, I am away on a trip but I found in my Generic World firmware a setting that you might want to try and see if it will work...
First enter *#*#4636#*#* in the keypad...
Then press Menu key (the left one)...
Pres the "Select Radio Band" (Not sure if this is available with other firmware)...
Selections are Automatic, Euro, USA, Japan, AUS, and AUS2...
If it works, then you can have X10i and X10 in your phone...

I just switched back to an X10a rom. When I first debranded AT&T I only found X10i roms. The boards all seemed to say there wasn't a difference between them. I recently became aware of certain apps like Google Earth that run only on the X10a. That's the main reason I switched back to the X10a. X10a seems to have an advantage, possibly due to some North America only releases for certain apps.

X10i is probably a good fit for Pakistan.

[Q] Can x10a use 3g in Asia?

I tried searching, but the only similar thread I found was one about x10i being used on Wind. Not sure if its the same though...
I'm flying to China and HK next month and was wondering if 3g would work there if I bring over an unlocked x10a. I flashed it to Nordic x10i for the 2.1 update, but I am assuming the bands is a hardware issue.
If it known to not work I'm just going to leave my phone in Canada and bring over another phone.
Thanks!

哈哈,我用中文回答你吧,你这些英文都用什么翻译的阿,牛头不对马嘴,语法都乱七八糟,外国人可能都看不懂,建议你还是会中国的索爱论坛好了,x10a在中国能用的。

no 3g on x10 mini pro

Hi. I'm having a problem using the 3G on my X10 Mini Pro. It was bought on the USA, but from the begginning I was using it here in peru. At first, I didn't used data traffic because I haven't accquired the mobile internet service. Many months after the purchase, I updated it ti android 2.1. Now, a month ago, I accquired internet service, but it was a bit slow for me. At first, I thought it was because of the provider, but now I realized its because the phone is only connecting with EDGE, not 3G, even when I do have 3G coverage. Here's the phone info:
Model: Xperia X10 Mini Pro U20i
Sales Item Number(on the back): 1237-6807
build.prop "ro.product.name": U20i_1238-0199
Service provider: Movistar peru (716-06)
Also, when the 2.1 update started rolling out, I updated it with the Generic Nordic, changing build.prop, but now, seeing the 3G doesn't works, I changed build.prop to the original values to install the original firmware, which was now updated to 2.1.
Does anyone knows about a solution?
Thanks in advance.

If it was bought in the US, it may have the hardware for the wrong 3g frequencies. u20a and u20i do not use the same frequency for 3g.
Hi. Thanks for your help. Is it just a software restriction, or hardware limitation? If it's the first, maybe flashing a u20a firmware could solve it...
it's a hardware restriction. But you could have bought a u20i in the united states. Double check what frequencies your carrier uses for 3g and also which frequencies each model (u20a/u20i) supports. Then try flashing firmware that works for the model you have. Best of luck!

[Q] Australia: X10i has 3g on Optus but stuck on EDGE on Telstra?

Hey Everyone!
sorry this isn't directly related with Roms etc.
BUT hoping someone here can help me out!
I have an X10a i got with telstra - (running Trips MIUI)
my Partner got an X10i with Optus, under insurance then once her plan was up changed to Telstra with a new phone. She got her phone stolen so she grabbed out the X10i and put the sim in, it works fine. but is stuck on EDGE not getting to 3G...
it's definitely not the sim card because i put her sim in mine an it got 3G (after about 15-20mins.
Put my sim in her's and mine gets only E.
Checked all APN Settings are all good, exactly same as mine... Grrr
i searched and read on another forum that apparently in America or something on Rogers the X10i will be stuck on EDGE and wont be compatible with 3G.
what about if i flash X10a Firmware to the X10i? could that free it up?? or is she STUFFED and stuck on Slow ass EDGE...
Gonna try that now just incase!
any help will be good!
Thanks Guys
Here's more details on her phone:
X10i
Baseband. 2.0.49
Rom: TripnMIUI 1.0 final
Android 2.2.1
Kernal 2.6.29

X10a has UMTS 850 radio

Thanks, Did explain it. obviously is hardware related so no matter what i do she's going to be stuck on EDGE!
it's not too bad, but still a pain not being able to run at full potential!!
thanks again

[Q] Flashed to Gingerbread, but Model# is X10i, not X10a

Hello,
I used the ftf file here -->)http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1147970) to update to gingerbread with the flashtool
Everything works and stuff, and if I turn Data on, I get 3.5g (the H symbol comes up) but I remember I bought my phone from ATT, so it was the X10a
Will the different model# change anything on my phone, and can I change it back any way?

Thats ok. Its because of the firmware you flashed. Your phone is still technically a x10a.
Im on rogers, x10a as well...but look at what it says below.

Flash back to 2.1
Or i think u can change it in the build.prop
Sent from my X10i using XDA App
Ah Ok, thank you, I guess I'll live with the i,
thank you =)
You can change every instance of x10i in your build.prop to x10a like Patchy said but only if you used Doomlord's pre-rooted 2.3. If you are on stock you'll have to wait for root. & I imagine an x10a generic kit will roll out within the week..
I am on Rogers and also have an x10a...but on 2.1 have been using an x10i ROM for around 8 months (different roms but always x10i created roms) but never had a problem at all.

I am about to do the same. i have x10a but will put wolfs build in .
Btw the "H" is apparently better than "3g", i have been getting greater speeds. I unbranded my phone from atnt and the H now comes up instead of the regular 3g.. only better speeds for me.
Only the "i" generic firmware has been released.
It doesn't matter because all firmwares after v2.1 include both software radios for "a" and "i".
NOTE: Flashing an "i" firmware onto your "a" phone does NOT give you "i"-frequency 3G support (and vice versa). (Hardware) radios are FIXED and cannot be changed by firmware flashing.

H = HSPA = 3.5G = faster.

Rooting / firmware for the mini pro SK17a

Hi,
I have looked all over and cannot find the answer to this question. I read up on how to root with the sk17i firmware, but I have not seen anyone yet say whether the american SK17a phone can take that firmware or if it will mess up the bands.
Does anyone know if there is a different firmware out there for rooting/updating the SK17a model?
Thanks
I had a sk17a too, flashed to sk17i anyway, i was scared about basebands messing up too, but took the risk and its working perfectly.
So just follow the guide, if anything i prob got better reception
Sent from my SK17i using XDA App
Cool, I was hoping that might be the case. With my Captivate when I finally went to the i9000 (international version) software the reception was way, WAY better... it was weird. I used to get 0-1 bars at my office and usually couldnt connect to data and once I switched I got full bars hsdpa all the time...
