HomeContactsWidget 0.1 Contacts List for the Homescreen with Pictures - Click Themes and Apps

This is my first android appwidget. It displays all contacts, 4 at a time.
The picture, name and primary-number are shown. If there is no picture for the contact, it will show an android.
Would be cool if you try it and report bugs.
I only build this to learn android.
Ideas for this app or others are welcome!!!
As the app works like it should, ill now pimp up the design.
Design currently only tested on HTC Tattoo
known bugs:
- Call triggers are only: picture and number, clicking the name does nothing
- "Down" not centered
- Design not tweaed for landscape view

[Update 04/04/08! v1.07.02] Skinnable Analog Clock Today Plugin "Retro"

Retro PPC 1.07.02 for WM5 and WM6
~ Official Website ~I've made this little plugin that displays an analog clock, similar to those wall clocks.
It is a PPC port of my previously-released Retro plugin for the smartphone
You can make your own skin with your PC and REdit. Look below and download it. (REdit needs .NET Framework 2.0 installed on your PC).
News:
Development on Retro is stopped, for now. If you are really interested on bringing it ahead, please contact me by PM or email and maybe I'll release the source.
Main Features:
completely skinnable
skins work like photoshop files (with layers)
antialiased-grade graphics quality, better than alternatives (namely spbclock)
can be centered, left, right aligned with a margin
can create stunning effects: canvas shadows, hand shadows, transparent clocks, glass translucency, semi-transparency, etc...
real-time second hand motion (for faster PDAs)
How To Install:
Retro is compatible with WM5 and upwards!
Run the CAB file on your PDA, make sure to choose to install it into internal memory.
Put additional clock files (skins) created by others into the install dir, then you can choose them in the plugin options under Settings - Today - Items tab. The CAB file already comes with 3 basic skins.
I hope you like it.
Where to download:
Retro and REdit can be found on their official site.
Known bugs:
- does not work correctly with non-square clock sizes
- clock will not update while the screen is locked
Version history:
Retro Update 04-03-2008 v1.07.02
- Added "Alarm hand" to Retro and REdit, that shows the hour position of one of the system alarms.
- Added 24-Hour hand.
- Added the capability to short-cut to the system Clock & Alarm properties.
- Added the capability to embed Author & Name info into the clocks.
- Fixed the bug that prevented Retro from animating properly while embedded in Wisbar Advance Desktop.
- 15-20% speed improvement.
(the new setting screen is shown in the second attachment)
Retro Update 11-29-2007
- Fixed plugin didn't appear in Today settings in WM5 devices
Retro Update 11-23-2007 v1.06c3:
- Fixed slow application startup from desktop due to deadlock in slow priority code (introduced in 1.06c2)
Retro Update 11-17-2007 v1.06c2:
- Fixed CAB install package for non-english PPCs (testers needed!)
- Lower thread priority for clock drawing - should ensure that apps start as quick as possible when opened from the homescreen
REdit Update 04-03-2008 v1.07.03:
- Fixed some crashes for stupid issues.
- Fixed a duplicate preview-window bug.
- Added code to support new features in Retro 1.07.02.

thanks dude
Good app
It's good. You should know that rlToday does this already and more. I do like yours better though as there is less screen flicker when going back tot he Today screen. You need more examples. Also when clicking on the clock it should open the clock applet liek the standard one does. A smaller clock available would be good, with a second hand. And the date printed somewhere.
Thanks!

For the smaller clock issue, well, you can do one for yourself. Also REdit has an option to resize clocks, so you can resize the Austere clock which has the seconds hand (included with the package) to better fit your screen.
This is excellent
has kept me busy for the last hour making a rough and ready skin from the Omega Seamaster. Found an iage of one on the 'net and started Photoshopping from there...
Images are photographic so blurred slightly when resized, but generally pleased for a first attempt.
Might have another go at some point and make one from scratch.

clocks aren't resizable from Retro... you should download REdit (see 1st post), open the clock with it, and then use the "resize clock" function in the Tools menu. Be advised taht resized clocks forcedly look worse than the original ones!...

skinning...well....skins are layered files (up to 30 layers) with PNG files attached to them, so there's alpha transpparency... try downloading REdit and familiarizing with it ...

oh wow. a configuration tool to go long with it? icontact is just getting better and better.
thanks
A bunch of questions for me from supbro's thread:

I've changed in icontact.h the font size to 40.
I also changed the item height and some other items.(don't remember)
Hope you can help me make a VGA version .
Thanks anyway !

Item Details are drawn in DrawItemDetailsOn function inside iContact.cpp file. Action name (Mobile, Email, etc) has a fixed width of 39 pixels, text is right-aligned within this width, so its left side goes off the screen. So huge rework is required to properly support VGA mode. Maybe one day I will put my hands on it...
kwickone said:
When I hit the keyboard icon (far right) to bring up the alphabet, if I hit a letter, the scroll list of names jumps to that letter....great...however, now if I use the D-pad up/down buttons to move down in that letter, it jumps back to the previous location. Hopefully that makes sense. Before I could use the D-Pad buttons and it would stay in the letter that I just jumped to.

that is obviously true for every other app in the market.
that's the challenge. you have to keep it so good so that people will want to buy it.
.. just my opinion on the subject.
I seem to have a little buggette -
If I minimize the app in Favourites view, when I restore it, switch to main view and try to use the grid, it freezes. I can only unfreeze it by closing it.

Yep, that's a known bug, unfortunatelly I still didn't found the root cause.
Plz make this compatible with WM 2003SE.plzz..no one is supporting us..plzzz
Truly an amazing addition to an already fantastic app. Nice job!
Hmm gonna try this one out! tnx!
Two bugs I've found so far and it seems to affect both your version and supware.net's version too.
When clicking on Favourite it hangs the phone for about 8 seconds. When clicking on Recent calls it hangs the phone for 5 seconds and the icon for the A-Z disappears (reappears again if you click the middle icon).
Feature request. There is no separation of call types (incoming, outgoing and missed). You have to go into each entry to find out what type it is.
Is there any way of having a colored icon on the entry so we can tell quickly what type it is?
Bug in contact details?
Switched to contact details on this version will produce contact info plus many blank lines where there is not supposed to have any lines. Previous be4.0 does not have this problem.
Feature Request
Option to bring up keyboard automatically when started if on the opening screen (I always use that to get to the letter of the person I want to call or lookup).
Great work!
Question \ Feature Request
Is there a way to make iContacts start in Favorites? I call my favorites more than anyone else. I currently have to take an extra step to get to them now, as the application starts in the general contacts list....
If it can't be done currently, could you please add that feature?
Thanks.

Thanks.
Is it possible to make an end call button of slide mode?
Any update on QVGA version?
Good Work.
Good job, Thanks!
thank you very much mr rugal.helpfull.thank you
thanks so mutch mate.i ve been looking for so long for a samsung dialer alternative that is also a cprog replacement.
The thing is that this dialer replacement is a FANTASTIC one, maybe the best out there for Samsung and similar phones, but there is one thing that stops me for using this dialer, and that's: Keypad doesn't Autolock after you press Call to talk with someone. I've read on lots of forums how to remove this Autolock or at least how to dissable it. But my question is Why to dissable it? That thing is placed there with a reason and that reason is this:
- When I dial a number (which I don't have saved in my contacts) I usually use Dial pad ofcorse. I press the numbers and Call button and everything is ok until I accidently press the phone to my chin or face and the Call is ended or put it On Hold cuz I touch those buttons with my skin. Thats why Autolock is here, not to accidently end your call.
So, my questions is: Is there a version of this dialer with enabled Autolock Keys? Or at least is there a tweek to enabled this after I implement this dialer on my phone? cuz this dialer dissables that when installed on phone.
Thanks in front
Kind regards from Republic of Macedonia.

[Widgets][18-feb][going to do something soon!] ZaxXx's CHT2.0.0 Widgets

HI ALL
I'm a huge CHT fan and I'm very interested in creating custom widgets.
Do not expect anything awesome and bug-free. I'm still a beginner and I don't know how certain stuff work. But I still hope my widgets will make your day easier...
IMPORTANT NOTES (READ BEFORE DOWNLOADING AND INSTALLING):
Use my widgets only at your own risk! HTC Sense is very fragile and can be crashed very easily. I release only widgets that are working on my device, but I can't guarantee that it'll work on your device too. If it's not working, than you're just unlucky. My first idea was to develop widgets only for myself and it's my good will that I'm releasing them here. Again - use it only at your own risk, I don't have much knowledge about how HTC Sense works and if you run into some troubles, I can't help you.
Do NOT expect any eye-candy! I'm just a programmer, not graphic-master and I have serious problems with making anything (apps, widgets, web pages etc.) look beautiful. By the way - I'm using only built-in graphics. For example the calculator widget uses graphic from e-mail tab as background and buttons are just empty quicklinks. What does it mean for you? It means that if you use some skin which replaces e-mail tab look, then the same skin will be shown in calculator widget. I recommend to use only the default theme.
I'm not Lua master, so my widgets are very limited to my knowledge. I started learning Lua about week ago only because it's the programming language used in HTC Sense (and CHT).
You can post your widget request, but don't expect a positive answer from me due to the previous point. But if it's something what can be developed with my knowledge, then I'll most probably create it
Feedbacks are appreciated as I want to make my widgets as good as possible. But please, do not write anything about how the widgets LOOK LIKE, only about how they BEHAVE and WORK
Feel free to edit the widgets in any way you want, that's why I release kitchens too. Just please, mention me as an author and add link to this thread when releasing it anywhere.
See post #2 for widgets
NEWS:
18-feb-2011: June 2011 prediction went wrong, I'll have free time for development very soon, see this post for more info.
15-dec-2010: Sorry, there's too much I must do in very short time and I have almost no time for this. I'll continue with this project most probably in June 2011. See this post for more info.
31-oct-2010: Switcher widget updated to version 1.2 (bug-fix and more beautiful skin)
30-oct-2010: Released fixed version of switcher widget
29-oct-2010: Released switcher widget
23-oct-2010: Good news! I found a faster ROM so I can continue with development
21-oct-2010: Got pissed off by slow HTC Sense, switching to another ROM for some time. I'll be back sooner or later as there is no so well customisable alternative. For now, I want to have fast device. Sorry.
19-oct-2010: Uploaded kitchens
18-oct-2010: Calculator widget update to v1.1
15-oct-2010: Released stopwatch widget
15-oct-2010: Released first widget - calculator
MY TO DO LIST*:
(high priority) Write a configurator for my widgets (like CHTE) and maybe integrate it with CHT menu
(high priority) Fix the < -32768 ; 32768 > bug in calculator widget - needs external exe
Reposition the button labels in calculator widget so they're in center of buttons
(high priority) Make new CAB for switcher widget to make it compatible with non-WWE ROMs (now it's necessary to manually copy graphics from "Program files in your lang" to "Program Files") - I will need someone to test it as I use only WWE ROMs.
Make the switcher widget compatible with CHTS - needs XML with texture paths
Resize the touch area in edit mode in switcher widget to fill the whole widget - not sure if this will go well
(high priority) Fix critical bug in stopwatch widget, which can cause CPU load and/or battery drain - should be no big deal
Add the ability to use calculator widget as adding machine (requires configurator)
Add the ability to make Home button in switcher widget larger (requires configurator)
POSSIBLE FUTURE WIDGETS*:
Calendar
Quote of the day
Countdown timer
Album
Notes
Web search
FB/Twitter update textbox
I'm also thinking of some non-widgets-related CHT modifications as I have access to CHT source codes
* I do NOT guarantee that I'll make anything from these lists, they're more notes for myself than promises
MY WIDGETS
Basic calculator
Description: Just a calculator with basic operations and memory function, I tried to make the calculator as usable as possible, so you can for example press 5, +, 6, - (it shows 11 here), 3, = (shows 8), +, 10, = (shows 18), so you're not limited to one operation at time.
Properties:
Only one layout
Is resizable
Can be used on lockscreen
Changelog:
18-oct-2010 (1.1): Added more functions, sorry for the sqrt, I tried to insert square root sign there, but it showed question mark instead. I'll probably fix it in next version.
15-oct-2010 (1.0): Initial release
Known bugs:
Results are limited to range between -32768 and 32768!!! This is a limitation of Lua in HTC Sense, but I'm going to bypass it using external exe in next release!
No visual/vibration feedback for pressing buttons
Widget is not snapping to the center of screen as it's supposed to... maybe I just overlooked something in code.

Stopwatch
Description: Stopwatch... just tap it to start ticking, tap it again to stop and tap it for 3rd time to reset it. Ticking pauses itself when device put in sleep and continues when woke up. I don't know how to make the widget work in sleep mode - if you want this feature, then do not put device in sleep, just turn screen off
Properties:
Only one layout
Is resizable (works a bit weird as I used Analog Clock as a base)
Can be used on lockscreen
Changelog:
15-oct-2010 (1.0): Initial release
Known bugs:
The widget may cause battery drain. This is because of my poor skills, but thanks to Co0kieMonster's knowledge, I'll fix that soon.
The first second is not always accurate, because the widget uses system time and needs to be synchronized with it
Widget is not snapping to the center of screen as it's supposed to

Pages Switcher
Description: Tired of swiping? How about just tapping? This little widget acts as a set of shortcuts which gets you to specified page in CHT. I didn't find a way how to switch between levels, so for now it works only for pages on one level. Those who use 1 level and 5 pages (like me) will definitely find this useful
Properties:
Only one layout
Is resizable
Easily skinnable - just replace the images in \Program files\ZaxWidgets\switcher, then remove and add the widget or restart Sense
Changelog:
31-oct-2010 (1.2):
Fixed the white background on the button 1
Replaced my ugly mspaint graphics with much nicer one by santod040
30-oct-2010 (1.1): Real initial release
29-oct-2010 (1.0): Initial release (not released at all because of critical bug)
Known bugs:
To manipulate with the widget in edit mode, use the left side of the widget - the rest of the widget is not responding, only the area where the button to switch to first page is located!!!
May not work correctly with CHTS, because of images in \Program files\... (I don't know, I don't use CHTS)
Behaves a bit weird when animations are turned on (but it works, just a cosmetic problem)
If you pin this widget and it disappears, try making it smaller. This happens mostly when using 6 or 7 pages, I use 5 pages and have no problem.
If you don't have English ROM and your program files folder has different name than "Program Files", than you need to copy all files from \yourProgramFiles\ZaxWidgets to \Program Files\ZaxWidgets to make it run (thanks to mike2nl for feedback). I'll fix that and make it compatible with CHTS in the future.

I love CHT too and I want new widgets too, that's why I'm trying to develop some
Unfortunately, I'm afraid I can't fulfill any of your requests, because I don't have enough knowledge - I don't know how to create text input box. Maybe sometimes later when I become more experienced
1 Widget i would love to have - the ability to quickly take notes - so an 'add note' free link and my notes displayed on the home screen like post it notes or even using a similr effort to that of the sms widget
+1 Widgets : calendar ( day/month/year ) i wanna can resize it .. just like weather . bigger

I'm planning this widget as I want it too, however, I don't have enough knowledge right now to create it... I guess you'll have to wait few weeks/months.

Calendar: Should be possible and not too difficult, but I'll create only month view.
3g/gsm: I have no idea how to create it, so I have to say NO.

Twitter: I can't make a text input field, I don't have any experience with twitter API, unfortunately I say NO.
Google: Only as soon as I find out how to make a text input field, but I say YES as I want this widget too
Youtube: If I create a Google widget, than it will be easy to modify it to search Youtube

As you can see in updated post #1, I have problems with creating CAB. As soon as I get it working, I'll release my first widget - Calculator

I've already googled it, but there's one point in changelog which makes me feel very upset:
Removed support for Setup.dll (does anyone use this?)
I don't know if this mentioned Setup.dll is the same as Setup.dll required by CHT...
I don't know about this setup.dll
All I can say is I already use it to change manila files (with CHT2.0) and some registry files ... it works fine

Yes, I'm sure it works fine with files and registry values, but the setup.dll is a bit mystery for me. According to widget guide, the setup.dll file is needed for proper installation - it searches for first free widget slot and puts the widget in there, but I don't know if I can use this setup.dll as normal file or it has to be put in the cab by some special way as the setup.dll must be run during installing. I'm a bit afraid of experimenting in this part, because I don't want to screw my HTC Sense and hard reset.
Ok sorry I just opened CHTAddon_RSS.cab and you're right about "setup.dll" needed
I send u a pm

NOTE: This module does NOT unlock any paid features!! It does NOT allow you to view more guys than what your subscription allows. It merely fits more profiles on the display at once by increasing the number of columns
in the grid.
Works for both free Grindr and GrindrXtra.

Are you the same guy who made the old grindrmod?
How this work?
It's good like "old" version?
So far works great, thanks! Is there anything new we should be aware of coming from the other version?
A couple of things :
- I do notice that not all profiles with chats have the orange border.
- would it be possible to add swipe across screens (I think previous version of app or mod had this)?
Thanks and great job!
Everytime it's opened, it can't get a location as 'I have no Internet connection' apparently, when obviously I have.

There is a paid feature now which too closely matches the active chats border, so it has been removed.

The mod introduced that far before the app did. One might argue that they took it and monetized it from @GrindrGuy. Does this mean that if the app starts mimicking other features introduced by the mod to monetize from them that the mod will just start taking them away? Nah, I'm against this move... You and GrindrGuy ultimately decide, but I wanted to share my two cents.

If you want to get "super technical" about it, this feature was introduced years ago in the original app but taken away around v3.0.
EDIT: Since I do not have Grindr Xtra, if someone would like to actually send me screenshots of what this feature looks like, I may be able to re-work it so that the module provides a similar feature that is not a direct replica of the paid feature.
I found a bug.
If i see a fresh face and hi back, module ask ne to "undo last refresh"

Oh, wow - didn't know that! Here I thought @GrindrGuy was the genius behind it!
Don't have Xtra, but something to bring back that function making it different enough might be to have a little circle with counter in it: currently app gives you a yellow circle with the number of new messages. You could play with that idea: just a yellow dot if there are viewed messages, or include the number (?).
Along the same lines, I have a suggestion: In my area you often get a few users who don't upload a photo and you just see the generic black profile pic with no user name. Would there be any harm / Would it be possible to give those profiles a random name (user1123) so as to know which user is which?
I'm still used to swiping left/right to switch between profiles and inbox. It's annoying you actually have to tap on those now. Dunno if you can revert that behavior.
Say you're chatting with someone and you want to go back to "nearby" view. you have to go back and then tap on "nearby". It might be interesting to have that navigation bar with nearby/inbox/favs persistant throughout the app, with it autohiding and showing back up when you scroll down. This way there's an easy way to always go back to home, and we also always see if there's a new message notification.
Another suggestion I had way back when was to further customize this navbar: for example, I'd love to order it to have first favs, then nearby, then inbox, and being able to swipe between the views. At this point it might also be nice to have the option of having the navbar either on the (new) bottom or (old) top.
Sorry for the long post! Thanks for your efforts, and it's also fun to think about UI design like this!

That's actually how the GrindrMod feature used to work, by "hijacking" the unread messages count to always display the yellow border regardless of whether the messages were unread or not.

I'd rather not alter the UI to that extent since there may be some underlying reason for them changing it in the first place (one person suggested that the toolbar was moved to the bottom in order to encourage accidental clicks on the banner ads).

From today Grindr crash after some seconds, but no problem without the module.

Looks like the app attachment was removed from this thread? I'm running 3.24.x or something just so Grindrmod will work. I'm being told when I open Grindr that I can only use that version for two more days until it is mandatory that I update to the latest version. At which point grindrmod will not work.
So, I'm looking forward to an update =_=

Thanks! I didn't know it was a whole new app there. The links to it seem dead in the xda app with the xposed modules.
@GrindrGuyNYC, is it possible to amend the photo viewer activity (when tapping on a profile picture) to always show the Android soft-keys? Every time I tap on a profile photo to open it, I have to swipe up to show the soft-keys to go back. Starts getting annoying really fast. Thanks.
PS. GrindrMod isn't listed on Xposed module library when I check in Xposed Installer (I use the one by DVDAndroid). I had to go to the repo online to download and install manually.

I see it just fine in the official Xposed Installer.
@GrindrGuyNYC I'm on oreo 8.1 with systemless xposed.
The module won't show in notification bar even if I choose show always.
Another bug (on nougat too, with "standard" xposed) is if I swipe or open a new profile module ask me to undo last refresh.
