Yes unfortunately the TG01 has a kind of "intelligent" usb connector (more "stupid" than "intelligent" IMHO, but...) and it thinks that your solar charger is just a USB device.....
There is a trick , but a bit strong: You can solder (short circuit ) the data pins on the USB connector. You can use a USB adaptor to avoid danage your charger.

The uUSB connector is 'intelligent' - fully under software control. I put some information on this on Brighthand some time back which you may find helpful.
Also a post here on XDA and I am sure there are some others related.
Basically you need to have a uUSB B type plug on the end of your charger.
the charger from my hd2 works fine & so does my car charger - i didn't realize this was lucky !!!!!!!!
Weirder: my solar charger worked fine with my first TG; after reading the post, I tried with the replacement TG: first battery light turned red, screen said it was charging, battery level was climbing; of course, after normal time, screen turned to sleep; some minutes later, lighted again without understandable reason, the battery was not charging anymore, and had fallen back to previous level. (no charging again after taking micro usb connection out and in, or soft resetting TG)

there is also the problem that a lot of solar chargers do not output what they claim to,so probably not enough amp's to charge tg01.
i have solar charger that will happily charge my tytn 2,but just lights up charge light on tg01 and mates samsung hd but does nothing else ..
i found a basic soloution - i have a usb battery pack from ebay and a usb nokia charger(cheap one) and the old charger tonew charger adapter for a nokia n900. it haa te old nokia charger on on end and micro usb on the other. managed to fully charge my tg01! hope it helps

So my charger isn't charging correctly, and I figured I'd try the Dynex universal charger. I wasn't up for soldering and measuring voltages, etc. Best Buy wanted $30 for it, but I found it on an amazon store for $6.50!

It just arrived and it's charging my TF + dock perfectly. I heard it charges a hair slower than the stock charger, but I don't mind. I also got an RMA for my ASUS charger, so now I can send it back to be fixed.
There are so many people are complaining about the charging issue that it sounds like a flawed design by ASUS. What I don't understand is: Why would anyone take a chance buying a new stock ASUS charger for $30+ when it might also be faulty? Especially when you can get one of these Dynex chargers for almost 1/6th the price!

I called asus earlier today and got an rma for my charger. About an hour ago I tested another charger and I think I found out its the cable.
With the other charger, my cable didn't charge but with the other cable and my charger, it worked.

The voltage switch you see in the picture is disconnected from the wall plug piece. The wall plug piece is 15v and has a 6 foot wire to 5.5mm barrel plug, e.g. almost perfect for the TF101.
If you convert the connector to female USB you can plug the TF 40 pin USB cable directly into the wall plug piece, because you do not need the voltage switch and tips. The converter is difficult to find but I have found them on ebay.
Once I realized this information, I also found the wall plug 15v items separately on ebay.
However, the voltage switch and tips are very nice for charging other stuff, like iphone, cell phone, other tablets, etc., at 5v.
Just to make sure I understand this correctly....does this replace my ac plug if say i lose the plug and this will actually plug into my TF (since it uses a proprietary connection) or do I still need that connection and can use this for something else?
I saw this at walmart about a month ago for like $15. I had it in my cart and at checkout I took it out because I "felt" I wouldn't need it and wanted to save the money. Lol.
It definitely looks like a useful thing to have around the house.

Yep, you can buy the barrel to female USB on eBay. Check the diy charger thread for links and info on polarity. I was going to buy this from best buy when my charger first started acting up but I found a similar one in my garage! Now just waiting on my barrel to female USB to come in :-D

You still need the Asus USB cable that came with your tf. This just provides a 15v USB plug which is hard to find as most are only 5v and the tf needs above 11v to charge.

Right, that is it. There are lots of resellers on ebay.
Almost everything using USB is 5v -- EXCEPT the ASUS TF101 which puts 15v on the standard USB power lines. In my opinion, the cable shown can easily & safely handle the power levels. Just make sure nothing else (e.g. 5v stuff) gets plugged into the female USB socket at 15v.

Beware of other phone chargers with mini usb though. The atrix is much more greedy than my wife's lg clamshell and it won't charge from that charger. It turns on but never actually charges.

I got a generic one from [a national store] and it charges but locks up the phone while charging.
So apparently there are differences.
I've used the USB cable from an HTC, a Samsung, and a Blackberry. All worked fine. Take apart a cable and see what's inside of it - I think you'll find they're all the same.
Universal Serial Bus is a standard. In Europe that means that all USB wall chargers have to be more or less the same. I use an Amazon Kindle charger with my Atrix just fine. Have also previously used chargers from other Android devices, WP7 devices and Blackberries.
In short, you'll be fine.

Fair point, I did name the wrong connector. In my defense the USB guys do mess with their connector names and types all the time.
A charger with exactly the same plug (from an lg clamshell) failed to charge my atrix but did turn it on.

All proper chargers work fine on mine!
DON'T use cheap 1$ china chargers! They often have badly stabilized voltage and can even destroy your devices!
While on devices with proper stabilisation the voltage should look like the topmost graphic on this image (even under full load), on cheap devices it often looks like the one on the bottom, or something inbetween!
Also, some very cheap chargers allow the device to draw too much current, while grilling some internal components of the device. This could even start a fire!

For cables, you can use the cheapest! I never had a cable break in a way it could destroy anything besides itself, and I always buy cheap cables from www.dealextreme.com!

Any of the usb wall chargers advertised for iPhones will work. I found an awesome one for my car by looking the in apple section at walmart.
I order nearly all cables from monoprice.com super duper cheap and they always work just fine. You can get a micro usb for less than a dollar.
I just use a chargers off monoprice. Super cheap adapter and cable.
My friend's galaxy charger fits, but does not charge properly. About 10% per hour.

Funny, my front-mounted USB ports (which put out just about 500mA) do a fine job for most devices including my Atrix. However, do not try to charge from dead via USB. For that you really need the full-power AC adapter. I use one from a previous phone at work (Samsung I think) and it charges in no time.
cable any micro USB cable will do. I have been using the cable that came with my kindle since I got the phone. The cable that came with my phone I think is in my car and the some random 3' cable in my bag for my computer. They all work fine. As for charging the computer and car USB is very slow as the only put out about 2.5 watts. The one that came with our phone puts out a little under 5 watts.
I always buy Monoprice cables. Although I have to admit the 1" micro usb cable I had been using from them seems to be broken as the cable will or will not charge depending on how its folded. But for the $1 or whatever I paid for it, it lasted a long time.

Almost forgot...I've been using the ipad wall charger. It's a 2amp charger and charges the phone extra fast. I've been meaning to look for car cigarette lighter to usb chargers that are intended for ipad so I can have that 2 amps available for any device.
Just for information.
I recently bought HTC Evo 3D for my wife and installed a self-made 5V/3A charger in her car. The charger converts 12V in-car to 5V/3A stable.
I immediately was stuck with a problem. Whenever I put her Evo 3D it charges nicely. But my Atrix don't.
I remembered there is something special in Atrix USB toward charging. I checked and found that adding 10K resistor between white (receive or transmit?) and red (+5V) wires let my Atrix charges as it should be.
10K resistor has no effect in HTC.
From what I know it is just a standard Micro USB, the usb to outlet adapter, I am not sure, but it looks like a fairly standard device.

Good to know I'm not the only one that has this problem, thought there was something wrong with my handset.
I've seen a little chatter on the New Trent battery packs, but haven't seen this issue, so I wanted to see if I can figure out what's up.
I've had the IMP500 (5000mAh) for 3 or 4 months and really like it in general. Well, the little micro USB adapter has a little too much play and after 30 or so plug ins and outs it has a hard time maintaining a connection, to the point where it's almost unusable.
When I use the included wire, it shows up as AC charging. But, if I use a 'real' USB cable, it shows up as USB... which as we know can't provide a positive charge while using.
I know about the whole shorting of the 2/3 pins to force an AC charge, and I can see the mechanics that give me AC with the New Trent wire. But it would appear that I'm out of luck without getting a new one of those.
Anyone know of a USB wire that will force AC charging?

No, because any cable that shorts 2-3 isn't a USB cable, just as a charger that doesn't isn't a USB charger. They simply don't meet the specifications. If they're labeled "USB" anything, call the manufacturer and complain.

One can buy chargers from reputable companies which follow the USB charging specification for under $10 (car or AC). Why mess with non-standard chargers and cables which are no cheaper, from bit players?

Have you guys heard of Mediabridge? I got one of their ethernet cables, but now it's the only brand I buy when it matters. If anyone is still looking for a charging only cable, they have a long 6 ft. cable and a coiled cable - though they do have sync cables with the same stats too (and cheaper).

Simply do an Amazon search for Mediabridge USB Charging Cable and they should be the first 2 results that show. You can compare them with the data/sync cable because the data cable is a single color where the charging only has a dark cable and light grey terminals.
If you're interested in the data/sync cables you can find them under Mediabridge Hi-Speed USB 2.0
If you're using a wall charger or a car charger, either modify the cable (not ideal) or the charger itself (more ideal) to short the D-/D+ pins. When the phone detects the data pins shorted together it assumes it's connected to an AC charger. If you do this to a cable, make sure that only the micro-USB end is shorted and cut the wires so the USB A end isn't shorted.
Many PC USB ports are limited to 500mA draw anyway.
I know we can't easily open the Tab 2 7" - but what if I took the charging cable, snipped it off, connected it to a wireless receiver and hid that in a silicone case?
I bought my tab as a replacement for my Pronto remote - and i want to be able to easy charge it without needing 2 hands to dock and undock - i figure it is more likely to be left charging.

So I did this quick mod because i use the tab 2 in the living room as a TV remote with TouchSquid software. I was worried about the charging cable falling behind furniture or the device not getting plugged in.
The new phones all have contacts in the battery compartment where you can lay in one of the wireless receivers, but the teardown pics for the tab 2 don't show anything like this, so i took the safe approach and modified a samsung cable. Unfortunately I can't tuck this inside, and I was worried about trying to tap into the charging circuitry inside, so I am stuck with the plug on the right.
I created a bigger platform for the wireless transmitter too - the sides are higher so the tab 2 and its slight bump on the back fit down against the charging pad. And since the charging pad is now the same size, there is no problem with incorrect positioning.
So since the principle behind wireless charging is inductance, does this cause any heat? If so, how much, do you have an IR thermometer to measure?
I'd like to do this, but i have an otterbox defender case, which is sealed pretty good. I'd be worried about heat build up. Can you post a link as to how you did this?

It gets warm, but not hot. No warmer then a phone that is plugged in or is in use. I have not actually measured the temperature difference as it doesn't matter to me, and because the charging rate is relatively low (as registered by the the tablet) is low at about 500 ma, and the charging plate and coil are rated at under 1 amp. there is not the opportunity for that much heat anyway.
I am not sure what links you are looking for, I think the pics are pretty self explanatory. I bought the transmitter,receiver and cable off ebay - the QI receiver is for a Note 2. I cut the cable, attached red and black wires to the receiver after verifying polarity of receiver with an voltmeter. Green and white wires were soldered together and that was it.
The platform for the transmitter is a block of wood painted black, with a routed area for the transmitter.

I am looking for a total, complete, DIY inductance charger. Completely built from scratch. I was hoping to find some info on making one from the ground up, not just simply modifying a current charger to work with our tabs.
I have found some info on building such a charger, but not specifically for our tab. My reason is because 1. I'm a cheapskate and 2. I like doing things like this.
Modifying a charger from another device is going to be easiest I think, since I haven't found anything specifically for our tabs like I had mentioned.

My reason for off the shelf parts is re-use. The QI standard seems to be the winner. So I can always reuse the charging base with another phone and the receiver and cable were less then $15. I am not sure you could build your own for cheaper unless someone gives away some old palm parts.

Hey this is interesting mod if it work Im in and as for the connecting of the receiver to the batt have you open the back cover and figure out which wire it should be connected to? heres the picture.

Yeah I have seen the pics. The problem is that chargers don't plug directly into batteries. And if you did wire it directly to the battery or USB port, what happens when you plug in a USB cable? Do you energize the charging receiver? Someone more versed in electronics would need to figure out how to do this. The phones have dedicated contacts for the wireless charger.

Thanks for the good info, but my mod is done. And no one really takes into account what happens when USB port is in use.
Or if you try to charge both ways at one time.

So also on the MI9... But sometimes I had more battery drain than other times.
I found the problem through BBS. The WSKEN connector activates a kernel wakelock. Which uses lots of energy.
It declares why I have it sometimes because I don't use the connectors all the time.
Now i am on Xiaomi.eu rom. Can other users on different rom with maybe the same cable report if they have the same or not?

I think it's better to use wireless charging. I don't know why, but I'm not a fan of permanently putting something into the charging port...

Where do you think the leads of the wireless charging coil goes to?? [emoji848]. And wireless charging generates more heat.
And let's not talk about efficiency.... Wireless charging is around 60% so 30-40% of the energy got lost.
And the wireless charger I have got is very noisy.
I'm not unlocked and rooted so I can't use BBS, but I've got the WSKEN X1 and I haven't noticed a dramatic battery life.
EDIT : There is indeed a wakelock. I believe it might be due to pins being shorted by design. Like CC1 & CC2 (plug detection) being on all the time, and the phone constantly asking ("yes, who is it?") and getting no answer.
I'm writing to WSKEN about this (and dual magnetic cables) to see if it might be fixed in the future.
I use wsken cable for my mi 9, but most of the time it doesnt charge my phone, sometime it does.
The cable works perfectly on my micro usb plug, but not on my type-c plug (for wsken mini1 & mini2)
I've tried the cable and the type-c plug on another phones (not mi 9) and it works perfectly.
But my phones charge normally with the oem cable.
Anyone can help?

I'm using WSKEN mini 2 cable and the USB-C adapter on my Mi 9 which works flawlessly, no drainage and the phone charges every time.
So @24ilham I think that you might have a faulty USB-C adapter.

The drain is not very noticeable, but I got it too and decided to remove the USB-C Plug.
As I said in my edited post, I believe this comes from the 4x4 USB lines on the outside being fused towards the USB-C inside, which got 8x8 pins. To be reversible, I believe they are shorting VBUS and CC1 or CC2, and since it's used for Power-Delivery negociation, the phone is constantly asking "Ok, you're a PD Charger, what are you capable of?"
Unfortunately, the plug is too small for me to test removing a CC2 pin, and trying to find if it fixes it.
Someone with a lot of patience could try to use a USB-C cable with splitted CC2 wire to extend a plug, but... a lot of trouble.
@24ilham I believe you have a faulty USB-C plug as well, I have never had a problem with mine.
