root divested alltel hero help - Android

Admins please put this where it needs to go. Searched for over a month to no avail. any chance to get a carrier sub category in devices? Everything cdma seems to be sprint specific (or atleast not alltel specific) and takes a ridiculous amount of time to find info. Used touch pro for 2 years and could simply use hardspl and flash.. Not so simple with android. Anyone help please

You can use the same method as the sprint hero...
just DL flashrec..
then DL amon_ra hero recovery.img....
make a backup of your recovery..
rename it to myrecoverybackup...
rename the amon_ra recovery.img to the oem recovery backups original name...
restore recovery.. (which is the new recovery)
you should now be able to flash ROMs
Or you can use the same method as they are rooting the Inc, slide and nexus now without unlocking the bootloader but I have yet to try this method.

Rom Backup with hacked Bootloader

First of all hello to this great forum and peoples. Im following the development of this forum serveral month and there are some things that are waiting for my tytn (MDA Vario II) here. The only problem until now for me was that there wasnt a way to backup my actual rom which i would need for guarantee purposes. As i understood its not possible to backup a rom with the original bootloaders cause of singning and encryption. Some time ago i saw that there is a hacked bootloader which enables to boot load unsigned roms. My question now is, is it possible with that bootloader to backup my actual ROM or not and if not, why.
Why do you need to make an image from your device?
The best backup you can have is the actual ROM update from from your carrier.
I have all three Cingular Released RUU Packages and after upgrading to several different Roms I have always been able to return to my original installed Rom.
Of course the first thing I did was downgrade and Super-CID Unlock (thanks pof).
the problem is just that there isnt an update rom from my carrier (T-Mobile Austria). there only rom available is the one on my device and in short time there wont be an upgrade rom from my carrier. as i mentioned the only need for this backup is my guarantee that i will lose if i hack my device and cant restore the original one.
@nova-2nd: At the moment there's not an easy way of doing what you want. Commands to dump rom to/from SD card have been removed in all hermes bootloader versions.

G2 Touch Stock RUU?

I've been trying to root my G2 Touch and have used the goldcard method.
I can only find the latest tmobile RUU (2.73) which can't be rooted!
Is there anywhere the stock (1.73) tmobile RUU is?
Regards
Signed update zip is here>> http://www.4shared.com/file/133081624/c5e35fa0/update-hero-t-mobile-1761106-s.html if any good.
Is there a reason for you to use goldcard on your G2? On mine (got at end of last month), it was the original unlocked 1.73 version, and it had an unlocked bootloader, allowing me to use fastboot to boot a custom recovery image (AmonRA) and then do a nandroid backup before flashing an update.zip
Presuming you need to use goldcard, I would have thought that a generic HTC version would have done. So long as it is 1.73, I think it would work fine, since the purpose of the goldcard (IIRC) is to ignore the carrier id and let you install the stock HTC ROM onto the device. From there you could root and flash the recovery partition to allow installation of custom roms.
So in conclusion-
-You might not actually need to use a goldcard, but if you do,
-Give the generic HTC 1.73 ROM a shot
BTW, I haven't personally tried this, so hopefully someone who knows a bit more about this can confirm if this would work, but I reckon it should. If possible, take a nandroid backup first, but this might be a bit difficult if fastboot doesn't work for you.

worked perfectly for me
You're using a tmobile G2 Touch right? I'm sure I tried this and it brought up the [131] customer ID error lol.. I'll try again though Thanks
yep i am, long story short i had a problem with and i had to apply the official so i could send it back to tmob for repair and once i got it back, i started to follow the video done by lockr and i got the [131] customer ID error when trying to use stock (1.73) ruu, saw the forum post use that ruu worked perfectly
I still got [131] error...
Where did you find the stock (1.73) RUU? The only one I can find is the 2.73, which is my current one.
i didn't use the 1.73 ruu, i used the 2.73 and i used that ruu i'm sorry that i can't help you :-(
Arr okay no worries I'll just wait until the 2.1 rom is released and hope that has some holes in! Thanks for trying
How about one of the first 2 RRUs from this page?
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=559622
None of the WWE RUU's seem to work... Only the tmobile one :/
Sounds like the goldcard isn't working properly
It is what makes any old RRU work, as it disables the Carried ID check which means only T-Mobile RRUs work for you. Seems strange...
Personally, I'd try making the goldcard again.
Yea I made the Goldcard twice on the same SD, so maybe its the SD card thats the problem... I try using some others I have somewhere
Iirc, the default micro SD card (2gn) that came with the phone works correctly. I've had a think and I reckon the goldcard is definitely the problem, as a working goldcard will accept any try file, such as the one I referenced before.
Give that a shot and if you have trouble, just try other cards until it works, but I reckon the stock card is your best bet for now. The HTC 1.73 rru should work after that.
I never recieved the stock 2gb card as I bought off an eBay seller...
But lucikily I had one lying about and created the goldcard and loaded the WWE RUU sucessfully, Thanks for your advice!

help in rooting 3 mobile hero

i bought my phone unlocked from the 3 mobile network UK. i
it had build 2.73.771.62 CL#80033 release-keys
first question, can i root this as is? many guides say to downgrade but none of the ruus seem to be compatible. cid errors.
second, which ruus can i downgrade to anyway? it has to be an original 3 mobile rom right?
third, which was the first available 3 mobile build.
last, im i screwed wrt rooting?
EDIT:
adb devices lists my hero, however, fastboot doesnt. this means it cant be rooted as is right?
does the CID error mean i didnt do the goldcard method correctly? i was worried when i had a letter in my cid generation after cat /sys/class/mmc_host/mmc1/mmc1:*/cid
H3G released their first Rom this week. Prior to this were pre installed.
To root yours follow Goldcard method or this one>>>
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=559613
Treat it as though you have flashed rom currently running in your Hero.
im more comfortable doing the goldcard method.
using goldcard, is it ok to have a letter in the cid? cos i have one and fear thats the reason mine isnt working. we're working with hex so alphabets are ok, ignore.
also, which ruu do you recommend i use to downgrade.
btw, what do you mean by "treat it as though you have flashed rom currently in you hero" you mean like i have upgraded it already?
thanks.
Yes if you are following second option. But ignore what I stated. Personally I am more comfortable with non goldcard therory simply because you could be near complition and getting frustrated only to find that your cd card is at fault.
There have been several cases of sd card let down.
mine seems to be letting me down too. ive used the stock and some other samsung card. cid errors still. btw, what allocation size im i to use to format? or is formatting with the phone ok.
ended up trying flashrec .. backup failed.
installing the patched recovery image didnt work either, new hboot.
---------------
so i cant install the patched recovery image because of the new hboot
which is because of the build im running on, so my only option is installing a previous build to get the old hboot
but 3 mobiles earliest build is 2.73.771.62 ... which is what im using
so i have to install a build from another network, hence need to goldcard ... which seems to be failing
---------------
^^ correct above if im wrong ^^
i think im going to cry. i cant use my phone until i do this cos i cant imagine setting everything up again.
what do you advise?
I think according to post #23 it is possible to root.
Anybody successfully rooted his/her Hero from 3 network? How did you manage to do it? Possible to give some guides to member arimozuki??
Thanks.
OMG! finally done ... thanks for all your help!
i was randomly looking at my friends 5800, asked for his 8gb card, plugged in, goldcarded and downgrade worked!!! w00t. but this was a week ago; needless to say, my phone is not a virgin anymore ... alot of rape
thanks much.
I know the thread is old but I would just like to add the Hero on 3 can now be rooted using Androot, which allows you to avoid the goldcard method. Was able to root, flash a recovery image, backup and put a new rom on with minimal fuss

questions about rooting

1)can some one give me a link to the most easiest and current way to root? ((Ive looked every where and im not even sure what i am to look for)) Also i am fully updated.
2)after i root,,,can i keep the phone basically the way it is meaning stock and sense?really just want to root as to get rid of all the bloatware and possibly over clock it.
3)Is there away to back up the phone pre-root in case i dont like root and wish to return to stock?
Any help in these matters would be greatly appreciated.
So, here's my $0.02 worth:
1) The easiest is not the best. If you want to root your phone, you need to learn how to use ADB. It's not difficult. You will need it at some point in the future. Here's a link to root your Thunderbolt > http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=996616
Here's a noob's guide to ADB >http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=532719
2) Yes you can.
3) I'm not sure, but here is a link that will return your phone to stock > http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1009423
Plus one on learning adb its way easier than youd think. i always tried to use the one click methods and whatnot but i finally had to in adb and it was way easier. no worry about something wrong with the auto root. also try mybackup app from the market. i used it to backup everything initially then use titanium bacckup after you root since its way better
Advice on rooting flashing Thunderbolt?
Hi all,
I am so frustrated With my Moto atrix 4g and the fact that it has a locked boot loader with the new 2.3.4 stock rom....I have a real simple question;
If I obtain a Thunderbolt, does Verizon force HTC to keep anything locked or make the Thunderbolt difficult to root, unlock boot loader and ultimately flash non-stock roms from XDA ?
If it is like past HTC phones then it should be a rom flasher's dream, correct? It is able to be unlocked and i can flash roms from this wonderful forum?
Please advise....much appreciated.

Bro, really, take just 2 minutes to look around! There's a root guide right at the top of the dev forum!
To the OP: learning ADB and some basic Linux commands will become more useful than you know. Like quickly and easily checking an md5 without some stupid app or a computer. Plus, jcase is very easy to find and very helpful if there's a problem. I really can't endorse doing it the jcase way enough.
***LOCKED*** On Bootloader
Hello All,
First of all thanks for the awesome easy guide !!
This is the first time I am rooting my HTC Tbolt and have had an issue to start with.
Used the instructions in the link below:
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1401959
After I download the 2.11.605.5 downgrade zip, I rename it, put in on the SD Card and go to HBOOT and it installs the downgrade just fine.
But at the end of this process, when I try to get the MR4 Radio onto the SD Card and install it, it simply does not happen. HBoot checks for the file, finds it, but nothing happens. I have renamed in properly and followed instructions to the dot.
I also noticed a ***LOCKED*** right on top of the screen and I think this could be an issue.
Can I go ahead and proceed with the Revolutionary Root Technique ? Would this be possible at this point ?
Is there anyway I can get Flash the MR4 Radio before I actually root ?
Also, would I be able to flash the MR4 Radio onto my device after Rooting ?
Any help is much appreciated !
Thanks in advance !
Cheers !

[Q] How to root Gratia with stock Froyo 2.2 hboot 1.02 - revolutionary or unrevoked?

Looking to permanently root my HTC Gratia running stock Froyo 2.2 and HBoot 1.02 but can't figure out what I need to do. I don't want to install any custom recoveries or ROM's just yet so does that mean I don't need to S-Off?
Should I root using http://unrevoked.com/recovery/ in this thread:
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=788737
Or should I root using revolutionary in this thread which also does S-Off:
http://forum.xda-developers.com/htc-aria/help/root-gratia-aria-2014-confused-t2863923
Do the two links work for the HTC Gratia as well as the Aria as there is a difference in the baseband and I don't want to lose 3G on my Gratia (the Aria has a different frequency for 3G and some have lost their 3G after flashing/rooting).
Also, it seems the CWM custom recovery installed in the two links above may have a bug that causes the display to show the recovery screen when charging (see http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=2474662 and
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1159237). Does anyone know which version of CWM is installed by unrevoked and revolutionary and is there a version that doesn't have this bug so you can charge properly off-line?
One last thing, on the HTCDev website, it says the bootloader can be unlocked which also roots the phone. However, if I restart the phone, I think root is lost so this is not permanent. See http://forum.xda-developers.com/showpost.php?p=24831976&postcount=8 and also taken from the HTCDev.com site with relevant section highlighted in red:
"You do not need to turn security off to accomplish the basic installation of a custom rom which even includes providing root access and remounting your system to be writable. Note: you shouldn’t really need to keep the system files writable across reboots as this is primarily useful only while developing.".
If I do unlock the bootloader, does this root the phone or do I have to do something else?
All very confusing so if anyone could advise, that would be great. All I want is root for my stock Gratia Froyo 2.2 without custom recovery (if possible) or firmware or any charging bugs when the mobile is switched off! Thanks in advance.
Anyone able to help with rooting queries in the first post?
First off, ignore anything about unrevoked - it's an exploit for the old bootloader, and doesn't work on the newer one (1.02).
Revolutionary is probably the best way to go... I don't know of a way to get permanent root with the S-ON system protection.
This guide you already linked is the best IMO, and I think should be stickied...
Newer Revolutionary automatically installs its own recovery, so you can skip that part of the guide.
Just unlocking the bootloader doesn't add the required stuff for root (unless it's a script or something that does both).. So you'll need to install the SU zip linked at the bottom of that guide, then you should have root
Off-mode charging doesn't work with some recoveries because it's a part of the same recovery image, just telling it to boot differently - so if a recovery doesn't support off-mode charging, it just boots normally
I dug back a few pages and found this one: http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1025704
I think I used it a long time ago, but I don't really remember much about it
Should be able to just install the zip from your current recovery. If not, extract recovery.img from it and boot the phone into fastboot, then run "fastboot flash recovery recovery.img" from your PC.
Sorry if I'm too late, there's hardly any activity here anymore so I don't check threads I'm not subscribed to very often

Thanks so much Winsuk for taking the time to reply.
You mentioned that unlocking the bootloader doesn't add anything for rooting but is it possible to install the SU zip using the stock recovery? I've read this guide and that guide for other HTC phones that seems to suggest that you can only do this by temporary flashing a custom recovery to install the SU zip. Is it not possible to install a zip using the stock recovery? I really want to do as little as possible and not touch the stock ROM or recovery if at all.
Also, I dont mind if the root is temp and is lost when restarting as I guess I would be able to install Titanium Backup and remove the factory apps I don't want (like FaceBook, Twitter,). Also, if I need to update the hosts file, once updated, if it is re locked by losing root after a restart then that's ok too.
Sorry if all these are too many questions, I'm not really a noob when it comes to rooting but for this little Gratia, there's not much info available and everything seems to be for the Aria which has a different baseband so very wary of flashing anything.
No, the stock recovery only accepts packages signed by HTC.
You can flash it back on after if you extract it from the RUU though. RUU downloads here if you don't already have one: http://www.androidruu.com/?developer=Liberty
Leave the phone unplugged (just in case) and run the RUU.. Once it appears, open task manager and go to processes/details (depending on what Windows you have), right click ARUWizard.exe, and click open file location (or something similar).
In that folder will be rom.zip (copy it out for later use if you want) - open it and inside will be recovery.img (and everything else that could ever be on the phone pretty much)
If you don't have access to a Windows PC, let me know which RUU matches your phone and I can extract it for you. If there isn't one exactly matching your phone, any of them will probably work - I don't think the recovery image differs much, if at all...
Thanks again Winsuk, much appreciated.
My current stock build is 47.54.35.20U_7.13.35.13 and the build is 2.37.405.10 so those RUU's you linked are very old. I've found a slightly newer Gratia Froyo RUU at 2.37.405.11 so that should work and it;s the WWE version rather than Asia WWE.
I'm thinking the best way to do this might be to unlock the bootloader and temporarily install a custom recovery to flash SU.zip. On reboot, the temporary custom recovery is lost but I think the root is also lost too. Seems that S-Off is the only way to achieve permanent root but even that doesn't seem to work cleanly. Revolutionary says that if Titanium doesn't recognise a rooted device then install Busy Box.
Might just leave it unrooted as is
My Lenovo P780 was a piece of cake to root compared to HTC.
