Can outblow of AC in car damage my HD2? - HD2 Windows Mobile 6.5 Q&A, Help & Troubleshooting

Hi!
Soon i'm of for a vacation and i'm wondering if my HD2 can be damaged by the outblow of my AC in the car? The holder is fitted onto the outblow. I need to have it placed where i can see it because of my use of the GPS.
The device is freezing cold when i have driven a couple of miles!
I think it's just good for the device, or am i wrong here?

I wouldn't do it... Only a matter of time before the quick temp changes causes a dry connection...
Just get one of these They are solid and cheap...

I've been doing the same thing with mine for about 3 months so far.
But I do have a silicon cover on it, and its only the top 1" or so that is in the air path.

I do the same thing, but , I usually let the phone lay on the console in the cool car for a while before I just jab it into the AC stream ...

you also run the risk of condensation between the layers of the screen. used to see it a lot when i sold sat navs,, clap cold device meets warm humid house, or vice versa, warm humid phone from sweaty pocket suddenly drops 25 degrees.
probably be ok, but i wouldn't do it.

I've been doing the same thing since at least 2002 never had an issue with it.
If you're worried, just close the vent behind the device.

[HELP] HD2 went swimming...

Hi all, today, [email protected] day.... when i let my HD2 went swimming...
It was on my pocket and i have no idea why it could run out of my bag and went swimming in a big cup of water.
i took it out right away, and then remove the battery and leave it there. Next 30 mins, i tried to put the battery back and turn on the phone. It is okay, but look like the water did damage the phone, like the volume button is stuck now (damage inside the phone), the volume automatically go up and down and the phone was freezing so i removed the battery again and leave it there.
Now, everytime i try to turn on the phone, it just stuck at the screen that shown up the SPL version and won't boot to the OS. Like we press the start button with holding the volume button.
I have tried to use soft reset button of the phone, but it didn't work. I just stuck at that screen.
My HD2 is HTC HD2 T8585, from somewhere in S.E Asia, bought from Amazon.com without any info about religion.
So, can it be fixed? Or are there any store in US can fix this problem? I have already heard that HTC won't fix the waterdamage.
Thanks in advance.
SR for my bad English
PS: now, i am keep drying it through the hot wind from my laptop...

don't start it again until tomorow, water inside is hard to evaporate. keep him on something hot with battery out.
Don't touch it for a few days. Don't keep trying it! Keep the battery out. Keep the phone at some place dry. You risk more damage to the phone by trying to use it while wet since it may short circuit.
Some people recommend leaving it in rice to dry it out.
I've dropped my old phone into rivers a couple of times and it always survived since I immediately took out the battery and let it dry out for at least a full day or longer.
Can I suggest you cover it in rice. The rice will absorb the excess moisture, just pop it into a bowl and cover it, then put it near a low-output heat source. Worth a try.
EDIT: Sorry, didn't see Aceo07's post.

My bad. I want to say that i have no idea where this phone come from, i checked on HTC Home page and i can download only the ROM 1.66 from S.E Asia.
Update: I turned on this morning, oh god, the windows load successfully, everything seem to be back normal. But i won't risk it, i am continuing to dry it through the hot air form my laptop until tonight... At least, i didn't make my HD2 become a brick.

Yep, you got lucky. Usually when it's wet and someone tries to turn their HD2 on, instant damage. What happens is that the processor and various other chips are not flat against the motherboard, but there are balls underneath it that make the connections. The water goes into the little pockets under the processor and in between the little balls, so if it's turned on wet, usually it shorts the whole thing out.

Yeah! my Leo is back... Thanks rr5678 , your advise is great... i am happy because i didn't turn it back on too soon...
At least, Leo is better than the iPhone... i dropped a iPhone 3G into water 2 years ago and then it turned out to be the most beautiful brick that i had ever had... I still remember how hard i tried to press something on the crappy screen of that iPhone...

See, the iPhone became a ****brick because the battery is not removable, which means it still had power when wet.

that was a gift from my aunt... so i didn't care really much...
I have never paid for iPhone, and may be forever!
Anyway, don't try to turn it on again till you've completely dried it! Put it in a sealed box with silica gel inside to absorb the water. If you're experienced with disassembling your phone (it's just 4 screws away), dry it out naked! You could potentially damage a working phone by applying current when the water shorts the pcb inside. A dive in water will usually not spoil phones unless it has salt content.

Phone got wet, but have a question

I was riding my motorcycle, and got caught in a downpour. I moved my phone into my motorcycle jacket pocket. I thought my jacket was waterproof...it isn't. :crying: It didn't get really soaked, but it did shut off. I started it back up, and everything works but the touchscreen. So, I have it apart and in a ziplock bag full of rice. My question is, the ziplock bag should be unsealed and open right? I would think you want it open to help the water evaporate, but wasn't sure. Any input would be greatly appreciated.
I would imagine the damage done to your touch screen is done. Trying to get all the moisture out with the rice won't undo it. If that is all that is wrong u might be able to just replace that part. When u say apart u just mean battery and battery cover off?

Yeah, i just have the battery out, the back cover off, and it's in rice. Man, I really hope it makes it through.
Also, the screen comes on, but just not responsive to any touches. Also, I noticed the headphones icon was on, though nothing was plugged in. Everything else seemed to work (ie wifi, hard buttons, power button)
Rice might help (doesn't matter if the bag is opened or not). However, like the above poster said, the damage has already been done. When you try to turn a phone on that still has moisture in it, that's when boards/components get fried. The BEST thing to do when a phone gets wet is to immediately take the battery out and FULLY dry it, a few days at least. This won't help you now, but hopefully it will in the future.

Well, I'm pleased to report, everything works perfectly. Yeah, I know with the first contact with water, it's always best to pull the battery, but I didn't really have an option while riding my motorcycle. Anyway, touch screen is working perfectly and accurately. Whew! Dodged a bullet. I think I'm going to start carrying a ziplock bag in my motorcycle jacket pocket just in case this happens again.

So, I sat on my tablet and bent it....Still works

So last night was messing with my TF201 and got up to go unload the dishwasher, so I threw my tablet in my computer chair (screen down). I came back 5 minutes later and sat down (it was dark in my computer room) - it didn't take long to realize I was sitting on something hard, then I realized I was on my tablet and I jumped up. It all worked fine when I turned it on, so I thought I was lucky and got out unscaffed.
I am now at work today and just went to plug in my tablet to charge it and noticed the little metal strip above the charger is cracked and bent in at a "V"??? (I tried bending it back, but it snapped off about a 1 inch strip)...... Upon further inspection, my whole tablet is slightly bent (screen is bent up in middle).
I tested everything again and It all works fine (charges, camera works, ect...), but I am wondering if I should try to bend it back or just leave it as is since it all works fine? I'm just afraid it's putting extra tension on the screen and will make it more fragile and pron to breaking..... But then again, trying to bend it back may break it too.
I've probably answered my own question (leave it alone), but wanted to see what you guys thought?
Thanks, Jason
Hi, if I were you I wouldn't push it From my experience, every time I tried fixing something that wasn't entirely broken, I just damaged it further. Just treat the tablet more carefully in the future and enjoy the experience.

Charging getting worse and worse

Anyone else noticing their watch is having a harder time acknowledging that you've plugged it into the charger? It looks like the little contacts have worn out on my watch such that the pins on the charger don't come in contact anymore.
This has been driving me nuts lately! I've taken to kind of "slapping" the cord into place rather then just setting it in place as that seems to work best. I've cleaned the contacts with 99.9% iso with not much luck and I tried a pencil eraser without any luck at all. Considering the only time it's been off my wrist over the last 6 moths is when I'm in the shower or charging it, I probably should be happy it charges as well as it does...

Do you find it comfortable to sleep with it? I changed the strap with a metal one and I just wear it when I'm not at home.
You should try the other end of the pencil. The carbon tip can improve the contact between the charging pins.
I guess I'm glad I'm not the only one...sort of. I tried scratching the contacts up a little to get any oxidation off but had very little if any success.

The vibrating alarm has been worth any initial weirdness of sleeping with it on. I start sleep as android, put the watch in theatre mode, and forget it's there. Thanks for the pencil tip idea- I'll try it.

No charging - ports cleaned

Dear all,
Firstly, I tried to clean the ports as usual, as they gets dirty after one month us continous usage and sporting - but not helped this time.
Looks my watch did not survived after only washing my hands ( never swimmed with them ).
They are still 100% operating, but can not be charged. Even when pluged to PC, now it shows message as unrecognized device (before windows normaly recognized them)
And I can see, battery is getting faster to reach zero %.
Did someone (with bricked watch) tried to open them, or you got some clue HOW TO?
I can then pass them to our engineers in foxconn, to study and find possible solution.
Thanks for any advice.

Check that the small spring connectors on the docking has the same height. (in case some of them are somewhat stuck)
I usually also clean the ports on the watch with a wooden toothpick.

Hi,
as I wrote, I was cleaning them usually (written in the topic) and as PC can detect watch after connection, means docking connectors are OK - anyway thanks
Finally, I managed to open the watch and found root cause of charging issue.
Touching pin from inside of plastic cover was stacked somehow and not reaching properly to FFC charging poitns (no idea how this damage is possible to happen from inside of watch).
No water leak as it was expected, so at least this point is fine to realize - waterproof OK
I made some pictures, how the watch look like from inside - if somebody is interested in.
Please post pictures, they'd be useful. You're referring to the pins in picture #1 not making contact with the internal pads of the PCB in picture #2 ?

Yes, exactly...one on the right side of cover is stacked. When I directly put 5V onto +/- pad on the watch, it started to charge...so i only need to fix pin.
Oh, I understand now. Thank you for the pictures, looks to be kind of difficult to fix without opening the watch; perhaps some light, directed tapping on the pad would work.

hmm...in this case, I think only possibility to fix is to open. Realy depends how it is stacked...mine is pretty solid and hard to release even now when I opened it and got room to touch. Opening of watch itself was pretty hard, well sticked , protected against dust, water and aligned...nice job from xiaomi I must say.

Thanks for the pictures, interesting.
So for the big question, have you managed to get it back together again, without issues?
(i guess you have to clean and reapply glue/silicone)

As of now back cover is only freely pushed to watch and placed into docking station - wrapped all around by tape to hold position.
15 minutes ago fully charged, so from this point of view working.
Just to update: pin was not stacked, but finally I found out, that spring inside of this pin was broken.
Now, I will paste transparent contact glue (water resistant) and stick together - it is supposed to have same resistance as before, even I did not tested it so much under water
So I believe for my purposes of usage (only runing and biking) I will handle all my needs.
Anyone knows if there are spare pins somewhere?
Mine has 2 pins which are pretty corroded and now I cannot connect the watch to the PC.
Lucky I can still charge it

Simple workaround: graphite (temporary) or conductive/silver paste (glue).
Thank you for your advice.
I was hoping to replace them to have a cleaner look.
I found the pins here:

But I don't know the size.
