Hello and welcome to the forum....
Root is where you get access to all file system on the phone and you can use apps that needs that like setcpu there you can control the cpu
Debranding is when you buy a phone from o2 there is apps from the provider on the phone and with debranding you will get a genetic firmware on the phone from sony ericsson without all the provider software

Oh so root is just to get to the core of the phone? Or is it something like iphone jailbreak?
For debranding why would people dont want the provider software? It cant be deleted?

here in denmark we have hi3g as a provider and on a mini from them there is a planet3 app and mobiletv and then we turn on the phone it shows a boot screen with 3 and thats is branding

Oh so if there isn't anything that shows at the start then its not been branded?

Rooting
Sorry to open this topic up again, but I want to root and debrand my phone.
Is there a specific order I should do it in? Or will rooting allow me to debrand?

I think Custom ROMs are already debranded, but I'm not sure. For Rooting, use a program called SuperOneClick, google it and you'll easily find it.

2.1 x10a reads as x10i any way to fix?

soo ive had the 2.1 global genric on my x10a since the flash tool was released and everything has been working fine except my x10a thinks its an x10i. Its no real problem but i would like my phone to say the right thing. is there a file i can change to fix this? i already have root access and root explorer. thanks in advance

There is no official X10a 2.1 update.
If you want your X10a to think it is an X10a, then wait for the official X10a update and install that (you'll most probably have to flash your old factory ROM first).
Yes you can, I thinks it is in the build.prop file

thanks, took a look at it... should i just switch the x10is into x10as? will i brick my cell?
Sent from my X10i using XDA App
I haven't done it myself, though it is mentioned often in this forum and nobody has bricked it by changing the name.

box promotional offer

so according to sony's press release here any xperia released after the xperia x10 should be eligible for the promo. the problem is that we cant download the app from the market cause it's not compatible with u20i. is there any way to make the market think that i am using another phone (such as an x10 for instance?)

+1. I want that too. But I think i can live with the only 5 Gb storage from Dropbox until I buy a Xperia 2012 Device. We have until 31th December 2012 to register, so we still have 1 year.
That is a shame. If only someone were able to get the app from somewhere other than the Market...wait a minute...that someone is me!

There are tutorials on XDA that tell you how to get 50gb from box.net by modding your build.prop, so I don't think using the app is enough?

Yeah, I spotted that sort of thing somewhere else but I didn't need it. Just installed the app, signed up and BAM! 50GB is now mine.
Modding the build.prop seems to work for non-SE phone users but I don't know for sure.
You're right. I just tried the app posted here and got 50GB!
-update-
The app even upgraded an account I made earlier!
So happy to be a Sony Ericsson user, didn't have to cheat!
Thank you very much Ticklefish!

Search on xda 'carrier name'. I forgot the link.

look this http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1739839
This is also known as the carrier label and is fairly straightforward to change. It's worth finding out how to do it because then you know how to change other stuff.
But I can do it for you if you can't find out how to do it yourself.

I'm guessing you want to root your phone? If so, just do it with flashtool, can be found in the x10mini development section.

hahaha, no, i have no idea, dont think i've seen anything here that is able to do that, not even Sony will let you get back to that.
Why do you want it back, by the way?

What is so special about z4root that you insist on using that?
If you want root on your E10i, just use flashtool, it will do the job perfectly and let's you do a lot more stuff to your phone too.
i downgrade it is better on 1.6
z4root is long dead. if it still being used i dont know and should have been updated if thats the case. why root with only 1.6? some apps require higher version on android to run. unless you want the stoneage andriod. have you check that mobile9 site to see when was it posted? for all i know i could be eons ago

Follow the above advice, and if that fails, maybe it will be caught by your anti-virus program, if you're running one. Disable it for a minute and try again.

What is SEUS?

SEUS is the Sony Ericsson Update Service.. It provides updates for your phone's firmware if available, or enables you to repair your phone with the latest firmware if it gets broken somehow. It is called Sony Update Service now, and you can download it from Sony Mobile's Website
