X10 Mini Pro email IMAP SSL problem - Sony Ericsson XPERIA X10 Mini

Hi
I'm trying to set up a job email for somebody who has this phone.
The email is on an IMAP server with SSL. The only problem however is that you cannot define the protocols to be used so you can't tell the X10 mini to use SSL. If you see the same window on an X10i you can toggle this.
So the question is then how the *BLIIIP* do I get this working.

yahoo mail

so i have a rooted rogers x10a with firmware 026 on it. i cant manage to set up my yahoo.ca mail account in the mail settings. any help is appreciated...
No need root to setup yahoo mail. Use manual setup, incoming pop.mail.yahoo.com and outgoing smtp.mail.yahoo.com
or if you use k9 mail droid you can use IMAP with yahoo.
username = full email address
server = android.imap.mail.yahoo.com
security type = ssl
You need to be premium Yahoo mail user to have access to POP and SMTP. Regular (free) accounts do not get this anymore

I'm not a premium user but I can pull my email from yahoo.
I use the setting for incoming and outgoing that gpmg762 tell, and it worked fine.
waiting for Android 2.1 update, and then we'll get the Yahoo application that will enable push mail for Yahoo applications.. (hopefully for free. )
i was never able to yahoo mail to work.it only works on my iphone (not a premium user)
I use K9 for yahoo mail
i'm a Yahoo mail Plus subscriber (pretty cheap) and I'm modified the region in my yahoo account to be in Asia
=> IMAP works and even with a wifi connection
(I'm not rooted yet, probably soon)
imap works for me fine as I mentioned above and i've not changed my yahoo settings or subscribed to yahoo plus. Not sure about over wifi though.
You don't need to be premium Yahoo mail user to have access to POP and SMTP.
Hikaru Kaze above also use it like I do.
Regular accounts have POP and SMTP, you just need to enable it from your Yahoo account.
Goto option, pop & forwarding and select allow your Yahoo! Mail to be POPed. Remember to save changes.
Incoming Mail Server (POP3) - pop.mail.yahoo.com (port 110)
Outgoing Mail Server (SMTP) - smtp.mail.yahoo.com (port 25)

yahoo didn't let me activate POP (premium accunt required it says...)
but this imap settings worked,
so thank you very much
PS: curiously enough, after manually setting IMAP for incoming mail, the phone asked for "outgoing SMTP", so I just added the smtp server as described, and it's all OK
hahahah get the damn yahoo app and call it a day?

[Q] Sony Ericcson X10 mini - connect to Hotmail

I have bought a new Sony Ericsson X10 mini.
I have tried to connect to Hotmail (as i do from a PC) from the browser. After entering username and password it only results in a blank screen and nothing more....
Is it also possible to add Hotmail as a new account and how to do (in the menu E-mail) ? - i have tried without a good result.
do any of you know what the problem is ?
The email application doesn't support Hotmail however I use the web browser to access my Hotmail account and it works perfectly. The pages are nicely formatted for the phone resolution. Try to clean the phone cache or reboot the phone. Also, which url are you trying to use? If you have problems with www.hotmail.com maybe you can try www.live.com.
Doesn't the mail app allow you to use POP3? Because if you look in the support section of hotmail it shows you what you need to set up POP3 for that account. I've set it up so it sends my hotmail messages to my Gmail account myself
I thought that you have to have a paid account before you can use POP3 with hotmail?
They changed that, I only have a free account myself.
Gmail has been offering free POP3 for a while, MS figured they better get on the ball as well.
We can use hotmail with exchange now, I have it on my phone and works great

Unfortunately this phone has the pathetic limitation of supporting only one account in the standard email client and Hotmail is kind of my secondary account so I am forced to use the mail client for the main account and the browser for Hotmail.
Rather than updating the operating system, SonyEricsson should spend money to:
- improve the mail client
- improve the music player
- put a few nice games in the phone (not those un-removable trial versions!!)
i had hotmail working with the email app but i actually want my yahoomail to be the one setup there.
anyone ever tried it? i already tried suggestions from google but didn't work.

The one account only is part of the Android 1.6 OS. It it like that on other Android 1.6 phones too (e.g. HTC Hero). Should be solved when the 2.1 update comes out sunday
Just try it bro...
POP server: pop3.live.com (Port 995)
POP SSL required? Yes
User name: Your Windows Live ID, for example [email protected]
Password: The password you usually use to sign in to Hotmail or Windows Live
SMTP server: smtp.live.com (Port 25 or 587)
Authentication required? Yes (this matches your POP username and password)
TLS/SSL required? Yes
just forget about the default mail app and use k-9.
its free and supports multiple accounts, including smtp, pop, etc

Just tried live.com and hotmail.com in the browser and both show a blank screen. That's odd.

+1 for K9

... change sender account while compose!
as suggested, i set K9 as my default mail app now ..tks
but just what i want like Iphone Mail App :
- you have 2 accounts
- you receive mail by account A, read in account A, make un reply/forward in account A but before sending you can change Sending account, use account B for sending (From) ... what we can not do in Windows, either in Androids ...
(I use it always because my corporate mail account don't allow sending mail via 3G or Wifi with unknown IP)
any suggestion else?
thank all,

When you reply to an email in k-9 and want to send the reply from a different account, first hit reply to open the reply and then hit the menu key, then More and then Send as. This will open a list of the accounts that you have set up and allow you to pick the one to send from.
You can also open the settings for an account and under sending mail set up other 'identities' to send from using the manage identities menu item.

[Q] POP3 - Leave mail on server option?

On my X10 I can set my pop3 mail to leave the mail on the server.
I cannot seem to find the same feature on the X10 Mini Pro.
Is it possible at all or shall use another app for my POP3 mail?
i was unable to find that too on my x10 mini, googled for about half a day, and ended up using free K9 email app
K9 is awesome mail app!
K9 all the way, I have been using it for 6 months and its fantastic.. it gives you the ability to setup multiple accounts and access them all in one universal inbox, plus heaps of other features... (and its simple to use)
the SE e-mail app is crap.. (no surprises there tho)

[Q] How do I add a custom Google email address to the mail app?

Hi everyone. I've had a look around and couldnt find the answer to my question.
Basically I have a website and I use Google to provide a custom email address. For example if my website was XDA then my email address would be [email protected]
I've tried and failed to add my email address to the email app on Android. My previous two phones were iPhones and they had no problem with the email address, they added the custom email address easily.
It seems weird to me that Apple's iOS accepts Google's custom email addresses as standard but Google' Android doesnt seem to. Could anyone help me set this up? I'm sure I'm not the only one!
hey there
just add a google account and use your personal settings should be good to go.

I know it works in Gmail but I wanted it to work in the default email app. I found a way to do it.
1. Put in your email and password
2. Select imap
3. change imap to imap.gmail.com
4. Security type SSL
5. Press Next
6. Check it's set to smtp.gmail.com
7. Security type SSL
and then it works in the default app
