Emulators on the Streak? - Streak 5 Themes and Apps

I was just wondering if anyone had played SNES / Genesis emulators on their Streak and could comment on how good they played?

I think it may be better waiting till we get 2.x roms as they offer better mutlitouch support.

ive got snesdroid and gendroid or w/e they are called installed and they are very glitchy. sound is crackly, video is juttery. not worth bothering with at all

Are not worth downloading,i will try again once 2.2 is on board
Sent from my Dell Streak using XDA App

I'm surprised they are so glitchy and juddery as I'm sure they were fine on 1.6 on other Android Devices.

I payed for the snes emulator, rom buddy and the app that lets you connect a wii controller to the phone. The wii controller app won't work, I emailed support and he said he'd look into it if I reported the issue (i thought emailing him was reporting the fault?). Anyway, earlier posters are right, unless the wii controller app gets working on the streak, multi-touch is needed. To be honest, with the quality of games coming out for the streak, I can't see the snes games holding my attention for very long, but would still love to show them off using a wii controller.

Thats a shame,I'm surprised it doesn't work as all it needs is Android 1.6 or higher.
There was an issue that it doesn't work with HTC Sense so I wonder if the Dell stuff thats been added to the Streak is causing it not to work, as same if it is as I've had a lot of fun using a Wiimote with my Desire now I've upgraded to 2.2, and would love to do the same on a Streak!!!!

any chance that Dosbox will be released on Android with full virtual keyboard support?

cannot wait for multitouch gaming

I got the emulator off the market that does several machines I played a. Snes Rom and genesis Rom both were fairly smooth with sound. Only drawback is lack of multi touh. Roll on 2.2

I agree with the dude above I installed the Snes emulator and the wiimotecontroller apps and that works fine. Dont see any frame drops in game play but sound is pretty poor. But really do need to have multi-touch so i can also use the Virtual gamepad when I don't have the wiimote with me.
Not every one carrys a wiimote with them at all times.

Same sort of experience as the rest of you I guess. I've got Gameboid for the Streak and Pokemon works like a charm
I've recently downloaded the PSX4Droid App which runs exceptionally smoothly. The big issue of course is the lack of multitouch. If you can get the right kind of games it's not the end of the world but for most you're gonna need multi touch. Once that arrives though then there won't be a single flaw in the emulators that I've used!

I have also been using PSX4Droid lately and its pretty good so far, but when we get multitouch this emulator will really shine. Some games are quite playable already, I am playing through FF7 now with the run button mapped to the camera key. Lets hope we get the update asap...

Has emulator situation improved with Froyo/2.2?
I was reading this old thread and it sounds like SNES emulators weren't running too well on Android 1.6. Now that Froyo/2.2 has been out for a while, can anyone tell me:
- has SNES emulator performance improved now the Streak has JIT and multi-touch support?
- are any SNES emulators really playable on the Streak + if so which is the best?
- does PS3 Sixaxis work over Bluetooth with the Streak?
Thanks,

i've not tried a SNES emulator yet but I have FPse and that runs well - I play Colin McRae Rally 2.0 quite a lot on it.
It's best with overclocking and a fast ROM but still plays OK on SD 1.9.1 without perfmod.....

Cool, thanks - I'll give that a try. Been a while - the last time I played any PS1 games I was using Bleem!
I'm looking at SNES9x EX right now - seems a bit glitchy and on-screen controls aren't great. I'm running on stock 351 ROM so might need to try something with different scheduler and/or overclockable kernel. Not sure I want to risk an unstable phone though...

NESoid
SNESoid
N64oid
GENoid
All work great. Use Wiimote Controller and wiimote and you have yourself a 5" gameboy.

So why is every thread saying I need this ROM gripper to get games like NBA Jam to play and I cant get the ROM gipper or any SEGA Genesis emulator to work? Any help please on steps to get NBA JAM to work?

Sixaxis on Streak

Well I guess the real question is how can I even get NBA Jam working? I havent even got that far. I have downloaded all the ROM Grippers and what not but cannot get any of the Genesis or SNES games even playable? Is there some other download im missing?

i have all four emulators by Yonghz and they all run phenomenal on the vibrant.
gameboid - perfect
gensoid - perfect
nesoid - perfect
snesoid -perfect
even snesoid now runs Super Mario RPG. BRILLIANT Work!
So they arent laggy like they are on some other phones? Cause i had the mytouch and even that was kinda laggy and choppy on the sound!

do you use any kind of gamepad, bluetooth or otherwise?
some of the games (notably RPGs) seem to be fine - but others it seems kinda hard to play without some kind of gamepad.
I played several games for a while on Nesoid and Snesoid and had no problems with the onscreen controls. They both ran perfectly after tweaking some settings and preferences.
I probably play the emulators more than any games from the market.
^ exactly what I was going to say.
Wii Mote apps DO NOT work

what are your settings for the multitouch. I try to play mario on Snesoid but can run and jump at the same time.
It does look amazing, its faster that the actual Nintendo game

On screen controls work awesome on this phone.. I can still get ultras on killer instinct...

Yeah and? You don't need to bs us. That stuff is impossible from the phone. I love killer instinct and highly doubt anything other than cinder or the werewolf can be done and unlikely on ultimates. Not to mention that the more I remember of playing that game when I was a kid the more I remembered that other than the finisher ultimate you don't want to do long combos because they are breakable = you lose vs experienced players and vs the ai.
Meanwhile there are other reasons for external controls. 2 player games is one reason. 2 player killer instinct would be a lot more fun.

I find that hard to believe, i can barely get a 5 hit combo it's so hard.
I have a question about nesoid that you guys may or may not be able to answer. Its regarding the Game Genie function. I enabled it in options and pointed it to the rom on the sdcard, I enter (for example) unlimited life and unlimited rupees in Legend of Zelda and fire up the game...works great...HOWEVER...when I save the game's state and return to it later (even after re-entering the Game Genie codes), they no longer work after loading my previous state. Do I really have to start the entire game over again if I want to use the game genie codes?

Playstation Emulator Out on Market

Mod Removal - Warez
What do I do with this .bin file? I tried extracting it & just opening as an archive
The bin file is the playstation bios for the emulator, you put it in one of the folders for the emulator to run.
Although the bios itself is generally considered to be warez.
I am going to try out Gran Turismo 1*2 muhahaha

Guys I recommend trying Road Rash it's one those gems that can be played with touchscreen controls, I've been playing the Genesis version on my Hero and it works really well ,but it pales in comparison to the to the Playstation game which IMO was the pinnacle of the series, Heck I still play it on my Pc sometimes, probably my favorite racing game.
perhaps the release of this emulator will spark interest in my thread regarding whether or not there are bluetooth 3.0 capable controllers for our phone since the wiimote app wont work on our phones =/
this might be pretty cool...
Does any one know what extension this uses for games?
I have found multiple roms but none of them seem to work.
Some .zip,.tar,.z7,.z2
Any help.

yeah it works! Currently I tried, Silent Hill, Gran Turismo 2, and Final Fantasy 7.
They all work. Except there is some artifact on your character in Silent Hill, it's not that disruptive. I thought GT2 was running a little slow but when I look at the time/timer during the race, the number seems to move at a very smooth [normal] rate. Is the game originally this slow?
ps - will try Metal Gear Solid & Super Puzzle Fighter right now. will let you know

okay, so far this worked
Gran Turismo 2
Final Fantasy 7
Silent Hill
SUPER PUZZLE FIGHTER 2 TURBO
Does not work
Metal Gear Solid - at least with the default options, maybe have to tweak it a littlebit.
problem installing
ok i dont understand how to install the rom. i looked for psx iso roms from google, download and install sdcard. i click on psx4droid to open then scph1001.bin and after that screens goes black. what am i doing wrong. please help
Final Fantasy 9 seems to be working, but the FMVs have no sound. Its strange as FF7's FMVs play fine w/ sound.
FF7 and Crash Bandicoot work great though. Cant wait to see where this goes, w/ some work and updates Thanks!

[Q] which PSX emulator works best

Now that PS3 controllers work natively, has anyone had experience with PSX emulators on this tablet? which one works best?

I did not have time to test psxperia version 2. Version 1 did not work.

anyone tried FPSe or PSX player w/ official PS3 joypad via bluetooth?
Tempted to drop the cash on FPSe anyway but if it doesn't work with the joypad then I'll be p1ssed (can't see why not as long as it supports manually assigning buttons).
I swear I bought a PSX emulator in the distant past, ran like a dog on my Nexus One, forgot about it, now can't find it anywhere. Could have been removed like SNESoid. That policy is ---- terrible, at least let us DL the last available version for those who've PAID the money lol.

appreciate it, I'll be getting back to wifi tomorrow (on holidays now so only intermittently available, defo not in a comfortable system tinkering setting rofl) so would appreciate if you let me know how well it works (or not).
SNES emulation w/ PS3 joypad is perfect with SNESdroid (after a bit of manual settings), PSX emulation would be the ultimate.
I don't understand why Sony hasn't gotten off their butts and placed the entire PSX catalogue or as much of it as they can legally manage onto the official PS Store channels, and at a better price point - those ROMs are free money basically. I would happily pay official prices for ease of use/DL etc. if they had a better selection and pricing. (e.g. 3-5 USD per game). Why there's only ten or so titles right now I have no idea (or is there more on the store on Xperia play?).
If they managed it they could basically take an almighty crap on even the apple store's games catalogue in one swoop, the games are all already done and most of them work fine via emulation already.

I have tested to install the FPSE Emulator on my Tablet, launch the FPSE with my PS3 controller connected via bluetooth then proceed to play the game by loading the Street Fighter ROM.
Of course, you will need to disable the on-screen controller layout then configure the hardware keys then you will be able to control using the Digital Pad and Analog joystick to play the game, it is fun playing the Street Fighter game on my Tablet with the PS3 wirelessly.
market error: the item you were attempting to purchase could not be found
?!?!?!?
EDIT: figured it out, its been bloody marked as incompatible in the market for this model. I'm betting Sony had something to do with this. FWIW getting the APK (I bought it on my Atrix) and manually sideloading it works fine.
Bloody sony, typical for them to shoot themselves in the foot (memo: if you're gonna ban emulators, have more than a pathetic dozen games in your official market, and only crap ones at that rofl).
though I do swear even though I'm getting 60fps, it 'feels' way choppier, should be butter smooth but just doesn't feel like it, if I had to guess I would have said ~20-25fps. I do have framelimiter on, because if I have it off the gameplay is on super turbo faster than the human eye lol

I'm running into the same issue. It looks like it has to do with the new dual core option in the latest version (though I'm not sure why it would). I tested different settings with the option to show the fps on. With the Dual core option on it reports that i'm currently running at around 60 fps yet menus and gameplay seemed to sttutter more than they should. With the option off, it reports that I'm around 40 fps and yet menus and gameplay seem smoother. Both os these is with the framelimiter on. I used Hot Shots Golf 2 for testing.
cheers I'll try turning it off lol
edit: You're a GENIUS working great!

Compatible Games with PS3 Controller

Hi Guys,
Can anyone confirm the games which are compatible with PS3 Controller?
I am thinking of buying one..
LIST OF COMPATIBLE GAMES:
GTA3
Muffin Knight
Pool Break
Riptide GP
ShadowGun
Shine Runner
Sonic CD
Soulcraft THD
Well for my own experience, here is my two cents
psone games (ofcourse)
nes.emu (Nintendo Entertainment System)
snes9x Ex (Super Nintendo) <-- this one however I believe is removed from Market.
ColEm (Coleco Vision)
I have not had time to try any other. But I believe there is more than this that would work. It is well worth the money to buy one, if you ask me.
well, I am looking for android games which are compatible with PS3 controller..

GTA 3 works well with controller
GTA 3 works well. Button mappings are a bit different than the original but once you get the hang of them it is very playable.
Cm'on guys..please try and confirm if other good android games can b played with ps3 controller..
Sega Sonic Adventure is supported I believe..

Are you referring to sonic cd? Or is sonic adventure on the market too now? If so holy crap why can't I find it
Also you could just get n64droid, a nintendo 64 emulator. Works pretty well on the sony tablet. It allows for complete control mapping, so you could be tearing up some Zelda or Mario cart on a Sony controller .
The developer did however pull it from the market for some reason (even though he had plenty of customers like me that paid around $6 for it), so you will have to find it elsewhere. Development for it has continued even though its not on market... confusing.

I can tell you that ShadowGun is fully working (already finished), just go to setup/gamepad and map your keys
also played 3 minutes Inertia HD... not really impressed by it... but it's working
Sonic CD is definitly compatible. There are some weird things like not being able to pause in game using the controller (you have to presss the pause icon on the screen) but otherwise it works fine.
Edit: I just reread the original post and it loks like i misunderstood. I thought you were looking for confirmation on GTA and Sonic CD being compatible with the PS3 controller. When I get a chance I'll see what else I have on my tablet that I can add to you list. to note, all emulators ive tried (FPSE, Gameboid, Snesoid, Nesoid, Gensoid, GBCoid, Ataroid and Gearoid) work with the ps3 controller
Shadowgun works GREAT once you assign the buttons, but the analog sticks work natively and brilliantly.

Hmm this is a great thread. I was wondering that myself.
Anyways, Muffin Knight does work with the controller... but I don't think you can use a button to jump. you have to use the up key on the dpad to jump. This makes it tough, especially when you get the double jump ability.
I have a load of games on my tablet which I'll test tomorrow. If anyone wants me to specifically try a certain game just ask. I have about 150 games purchased now and no qualms about buying more lol.
It's great to hear shadow gun works btw! I refuse to buy fps games on a touch screen because I can't control them to save my life lol. I'll list what I come up with by Friday at the latest
List of Working and non working titles
I got up early and started testing a few games. I'll include a list of non working titles as well just so everyone knows. Any notes will be in brackets after the title
NOTE: I decided to add an Almost working section in the middle of the list. Theres a couple games that nearly work 100% but a critical button doesn't work. Emailing the devs may get that fixed promptly!
WORKING
-Shadowgun
-SupaSupaX (Unable to pause with controller)
-Muffin Knight (Have to jump with up on d-pad)
-All PS1 games from the PS Store
-Soulcraft THD (Works great!!!)
-Sleepy Jack (Works....but controls are a little weird. You click the left stick to shoot and click the right stick to use the slow bomb)
-Grand Theft Auto 3
-Shine Runner
-Symphony of eternity (Although you need to click the left stick to accept combat decisions)
ALMOST WORKING
-They Need to be Fed (left/right work on dpad and analog stick, but jump doesn't!)
-Karoshi (Left/right working on dpad and stick again, but unable to jump)
-Dark Incursion (Jump and shoot are combined into the X button..powers don't work)
-Reckless getaway (Left right work, can't activate pickups)
NOT WORKING
-Pocket Legends
-Dungeon Defenders
-Bang Bang Racing THD (Drag...I can barely play this with the on screen controls)
-Dead On arrival
-Attack from outer space
-Wind up Knight
-Mike V- Skateboard Party
-Summit X Snowboarding
-Minecraft Pocket Edition
-Destinia
-Megastunt Mayhem
-Age of Zombies
-Puffle Launch
That's it for now. Is it possible for a moderator to keep a stickied post at the top of all 100% working games? If not, no big deal. We can just periodically copy/paste all working games with new additions as the last post.
How about onlive? Can anyone confirm if this works with the ps3 controller?
Has anyone tried Sonic 4 Episode 1? I'd like to know how well it works
compatible titles
thanks for this list, i'll keep my eyes open for more. Unfortunately, I cannot seem to get some things out here in Kuwait, but when I get home I'll check some more ut.

So... Anyone else having TERRIBLE emulator experiences?

I've been trying all sorts of emulators and my DNA can barely handle a GBA emulator... My RAZR M flew playing FPse games, and my DNA's lagging way behind even with nothing running. N64 emulators are jerky and pause a lot... Any ideas?
Just try'd to play pokemon ruby with myboy free edition and it run like but no lag at all. You can try changing framerate skip to 3 and see if that helps you can try forcing 2d renduring in the development menu and see if that helps... Good luck..
Just tested super Mario 64 and it works fine for me.

Which are you guys running? FPse is mainly what's worrying me. My Boy works fine, but that's GBA. I was using Mupen64Plus, AE for N64 and it was stuttering like crazy.
