TouchWiz Buddies Now - Vibrant Themes and Apps

I used the TouchWiz launcher for awhile, I kinda liked it but missed the customization and standard adw launcher I have grown used to.
However I also found myself really using the TouchWiz Buddies Now widget

Anyone know if there is a non touchwiz widget with the same or similar functionality?

I use People Widget when i choose to not use Buddies now. I'm still going back and forth between touchwiz and ADW. i think i'm going to stick with touchwiz now though as it keeps another program from running all the time, since touchwiz runs anyways unless you delete it, but i don't want to chance losing something necessary to the phones stability.

launcherpro plus has an awesome scrollable people widget now, looks and feels as smooth as the HTC one:
google launcherpro (i cant link yet)
Worth the $3, especially when the other widgets come out

buddies now alt
bumping this up because i haven't find what im looking for. I need a Buddies Now alternative. a good one. Im looking more for individual fb updates than i am for a contacts shortcut. I have select friends that i want to track status and updates on, not my entire friends list. Below is what I've used so far with poor results so I need suggestions.
Just for a recap of the strength of Buddies Now, it allows you to put in just the people you want quick access to (not all of your contacts, nor all of your fb friends) AND it give you their status from the widget.
1. Contapps - concept is pretty good, facebook contact merging failed miserably, had to manually link the people i cared about getting updates from. The UI itself is terribly kiddie, with penguins and graffiti style wording. Lastly it does have a widget with two size options (4x1 and 4x2) which automatically just picks up the favorites starred in android. unfortunately i cant seem to get it to scroll so in the 4x2 widget it only shows 8 people, regardless of the fact that i have 15 starred contacts. Not cool
2. My Taptu - this is actually an rss reader but it has the ability to read facebook activity (mostly status and wall posts from what i gather). I havent been able to pick who's feeds I want to receive but the app description hinted that i would be able to. No success yet
3. 6sense - this is another rss feed reader that has facebook activity reading capability. the difference is that its supposed to be "smart" and only show you what you care about based on what you read and respond to (basically your own activity). Theres a bar/meter that monitors how much it understands you, and the more you do in it the "smarter" it becomes. So im "long term" testing this one since I think i have respond to the fb friends posts of the ones i want updates on and ignore others. i have no idea if this will work the way i want it to.
4. Phonebook 2.0 - much like contapps, slightly less kiddie interface, had a higher success rate of contact/fb merging. barely. No widget. may have to play with it a bit, unfortunately, it wants to be your main dialer/contacts app so any phone related duties make you pick between it and the default dialer. Since I only want it for one reason (fb updates for specific contacts only) it is mildly annoying.
5. LauncherPro People widget - well this is a people shortcut. scrollable is a plus. no fb updates. so it doesnt do what i need it to...unless im missing something?
So do any of you have anything you could suggest for what im looking for? Thanks in advance
*edit*
6. AddressBook 2.0 with Facebook Mixin - just tried this and its very odd because it uses plugins called "mixins" to provide additional functionality but the main app force closes as soon as it opens. so the main part of this thing, which i have to have installed in order for the mixin to work, doesnt work. however, the facebook mixin logged into fb, got my friends list, did matches against my phone contacts and i got to choose whether i wanted updates from all friends or just favorites, what i wanted to be updated on (pic uploads, shared links, status, etc) and how often. this is a very strong feature set and more towards what i want but it's a shame the main app force closes (and still no widget).

still bumping this up, still looking for a buddies now alternative. Hoping the community can help me out here.

There's an app on the maket called Socialite. It's a widget/app and separate tabs for twitter and facebook.

I was just reading up on it today actually, thanks! It was ported from the LG Ally apparently? Im reading that the beta (the one in the market) is kind of buggy and degrades contact pics, and is difficult to uninstall. If you have it installed can you give a quick 15 second review of it?

While I use the LauncherPro "Friends" widget, I find the Socialite app a nice change, specially when I want to switch to a different home launcher and the Friends widget isn't available. I haven't had any problems or FC's. Syncs every 5 minutes on auto, or you can manually refresh the feeds. To uninstall, I go to the Settings/Applications and remove from there. The preview pictures come out pixelated, but when you click on the feed, it clears up. I personally like it as an alternative. It's both a widget and application, I like the widget a lot because of the separate tabs.
All in all, it's a nice little app.

^ thanks for the reply! quick question can you pick and choose the feeds you want to "subscribe" to or is it just the regular fb newsfeed of all events and all friend updates?

While cleaning up my internal SD, I accidently blew away my People app. Any idea where I can download it again?

MS needs to speed up the development on this app because iPhone's and Android's facebook apps are way better then what we're getting (haven't used blackberry's fb app yet)
Anytime
imho I think that if MS decided to not release this version for Pocket PC it means that they're preparing something better compared to the Smartphone version, and hopefully we'll have some updates for MWC
Fantastic! Working great on my HD2.
Thank you A LOT!
Big thank you for sharing this update with us!!! Isn't it strange that they released an update for smartphones and no update for PPC???
I think PPC's are more popular than smartphones...
Yeah, it's strange that they didn't posted that in the touchscreen marketplace, also because there's a huge version bump (from 1.0.0.7 to 1.1.0.14) and some very welcome new features; when first extracted the original CAB wouldn't even install on my HD2 so I had to build it from scratch, so hopefully they're doing something better for our WM Professional devices.
Scrolling is very very slow.. Need to drag using the scroll bar to scroll down faster.. Is there a fix?
working well on HD2, thank you! much appreciated

Will look into that, but as far as I know there's no solution. As it's an application released to work only on non touchscreen devices, they probably didn't put much attention into (kinetic) scrolling. If I had to scroll down faster I used the scroll bar, too, but imo that's not too much of a hassle
Thank you for this. its at least a little more usable then the rubbish microsoft have on the ppc at the moment.
Thank you mate, will give it a try.
love the new version but it remapped my volume keys to select items. so no volume control at all!!!
After trying it a while now I've noticed that this version is a big improvement... Friends pictures of their faces loads almost instantly, contact list and other stuff also loads much much faster than before. Plus the new comments feature is nice of course.
I've also noticed it caches face images (probably to make them load faster), you can move the cache with a simple change in the registry at HKCU\Software\Microsoft\Facebook\ImageCache where you can see the Path...
I moved mine to Internal Storage (Internminne\FacebookCache)

There are a lot of new registry values added by Facebook after the first run like DeleteMailPeriod, UserActionPublished, V1, V2, V3, V4. The Path was something I had noticed while building the cab, I'm sorry I didn't told you about this entry buy I wanted to be sure that the app was stable for everyone.
In the meanwhile, I found a bug tho: FB app is not generating thumbnails for my (and my friends) photo galleries after I checked someone else album. Can you replicate them, too?
Great work!!
Is there a way to show not the news feeds, but the live feed?

Well now we just need two last features: chat and live feed... Let's hope they'll deliver them in the next update
Thanks a lot!

VGA/WVGA. It also works (in theory) on QVGA, but it may not run well due to older devices being slower.
Looks and runs nicely on my Blackstone, have noticed a few things though:
- the blue squares shake a lot if you press and hold the screen...not sure if it's intentional but personally I feel the 'vibration' effect isn't too nice to look at.
- when scrolling on the apps screen some program names get broken. For example: 'FreeUpRam' becomes 'FreeUP' and 'pTravelAlarm' becomes 'pTravelAl'. The scrolling motion is also a bit jumpy.
- could not find a way of returning from bing search to the main screen without exiting the app and reloading it.
- pictures tab does not see images on the SD card in \Storage Card\My Documents or \Storage Card\DCIM (it would be nice if it could be set in the settings to look at 2 paths - storage and phone)
- none of my music is listed (also stored on storage card).
VERY nice start though! I'll be watching this one!
...also for some reason your website just comes up grey on my PC in IE8.
sweet, why not put it on your diamond2?
what are your thoughts on changing the faded black background to pitch black?? I am guessing you're trying to make it look like what's shown in the microsoft demos on that prototype device...? That's probably due to the display on that device though and i'm going to take a wild guess and say MS will make it black like on the zune hd when it's done. Or maybe you have a different reason for it?
cool

wm7
keep gettin a error when i launch the app
are you using windows form control/user control to display items? You can't get any smoother animation with windows form controls, because everytimes the control Location changes, it repaints itself regardless and as you can see it is very resource consuming. You gotta paint individual control for better performance.
But overall, it's looking pretty nice
I trie on my ELF P3450 and runs fine but a little bit slower, understand that, older device...
Very nice app... any chance to edit menu ( the right side)???
ohhh...and tell the trick to unlock screen i spend about 2 min to find out...looool
Feedback
I tried this on opal (201mhz processor) qvga screen.
I can tell one thing its just awesome on my device i didnt expected it to be so smoothe (iam comparing this with the preview version) its much smoother just one thing on home screen while scrolling the tiles move with hands thats absolutely smoothe but for some time it leaves a trace of the tile say 1 or 2 seconds if u fix that u can officially say its compatible with qvga.
I expect more pages, more likelyness to original wp7
Hey Jaxbot,
It's getting better - the only that has disappointed me with this build (as opposed to the one I've tested for you) is the animations seem to have got slower rather than faster - especially for the people hub.
I see you have fixed some bugs - some still remain but I will not double report those.
A new one, it's nice to see you've added the contact surname, however, it is now shown underneath the next person's first name (i.e. you've not given it enough space/padding).
The same goes for the program list (the second part of the program name is cut off). good to see it's actually working now - though still not scrollable.
The live tiles still take a long time to animate out/in.
More to come...
Casey
Update: In qvga device there is no tile for images.
Plus this homescreen needs kinetic scrolling its a must coz scrolling between the left and right pages is excellent the animation is perfect but scrolling down is little hard so i am saying kinetic scrolling please add in next version.
very nice start.
theres alot of shaking around on the icons, and arent any smooth transitions. btu seeing as this is version 1, im sure that you will refine it in the coming weeks
i look forward to the more refined version. good work and thanks for the download!

Interesting, and yes I noticed that. The problem is that most testing was on the Device Emulator at QVGA resolution, so the fonts worked perfectly on low res. I'll play with the numbers at get that fixed.
About the speed being lower, I'm confused by that, as not much was added (just fixes from the list you sent me). By chance do you have anything running in the background?
Otherwise, I'm still working on speeding up the animations, expect some changes soon

I'm under the impression this is an English-only forum, but I'll answer your concerns as best I can.
1robably takes too much memory.
2:Obviously, since it's QVGA, it runs slow. (since the device is older)
3:I don't know what to say, because .NET CF handles all that.
4robably due to #3.

[Q] Who wants to help me create a nice, intuitive and smooth Homescreen-interface?

UPDATE:
Check out the VIDEODEMO (HD 720p, you'll need a big screen and a decent computer)!
http://caemgen.nl/SlickUI/videodemo/
YouTube-version:
--------
Hello there.
I'm kinda new to XDA, so let me properly introduce myself first:
My name is Kevin and I live in The Netherlands. I'm really into games, music, movies, phones (Android) and design. I work as a graphic/web-designer/video-editor/animator in The Netherlands.
Just recently, I bought a Samsung Galaxy S. I'm quite happy with the device, especially since Samsung released the 2.2 JP6-update and even more so when I decided to apply the latest Voodoo lagfix-release. The device just flies, although there are still some occassional 'freezes' and slowdowns every now and then.
And then my brother came along, yesterday, showing me his jailbreaked iPhone 4 with some awesome Cydia-tweaks. He had a fully working notification bar, live wallpapers, folders in folders, true multitasking, etc. and I got a bit... well, jealous. I'm sorry, but that interface is just soooo nice and smooth.
Just check out this video: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=2DHVaJfWL5E
The way folders work is really nice. And there are a lot of other things that make the phone feel like everything is very well integrated. No delays, no freezes.
So, this made me wonder: Could we, the Android-community, create a Homescreen-replacement app that just BLOWS everything away when compared to the iPhone? The Galaxy S, Nexus One, Desire (HD) etc. certainly are powerful enough.
Maybe a Homescreen-replacement app wouldn't be enough, I guess some ROM-tweaks would be required to make certain things work. But when I see LauncherPro in action (with its silky-smooth homescreen-scrolling), I believe that very much can already be achieved when just focussing on a Homescreen-replacement first.
And don't get me wrong, LauncherPro is already a 'great' app. But it lacks customization and eye-candy. Yes, I'd like even more customization. But what I really miss is the eye-candy. I've got so many ideas for a visually stunning and innovative UI-experience... and I could work out the designs/graphics, but unfortunately I lack knowledge and skill in coding for Android.
I'd love to work on a User Interface with a dedicated group of people that is both visually appealing and functional. Is there anyone here that has the skills/time/motivation to work on the coding-part? Maybe more than one person? But remember, the goal is to make it silky smooth, very functional and highly customizable. Quality is of the utmost importance!
Here's a bit of a sketch I did by the way: Nothing substantial though.

The 5 icons at the top of the full drawer stay visible when you slide it down. In that state you can also slide to the right, like in LauncherPro, so that the next row (5 icons) from your full app drawer is visible and so forth. If you would slide to the left, you would see the bottom row of your full app drawer.
Additionally, you should be able to slide the minimized dock down entirely.
I should probably do an animation to show you, as it's hard to explain.
The new dock using tabs for ALL applications and RUNNING applications, means you can easily see which apps are currently running and switch to them (or close them).
Update: I think I've got a name for the project.
What about SlickUI?
Check out KiteUI, the project is already under way.

Thanks for the link.
But I must say that I don't really like that approach and the look..
I suggest to take a look at the SDK samples - they contain a lot of useful snippets, classes, etc.
Wish I could help Caemgen, that concept of yours looks great in both form and function!
I'm a lowly App Inventor user though, for now.
I can code a little in PHP and JavaScript, do HTML/CSS and I also have SQL/mySQL experience but until a week ago my Java install was borked so I couldn't install the SDK and still haven't tried. Kind of put off coding development when there is App Inventor because I'll have to tackle Java!
PS - Is that The Crystal Method on your portfolio site?
WOW! That looks great. I wish I could help, but I'm not too good with coding. I just do designing, but it looks like you already got the graphics down. I'll be looking for this to be complete.
BTW, KiteUI looks like it's going to be a while, but both are looking amazing.
Thanks guys! If the ball starts rolling for this project, I could use your help on the visual part to, even if it would be just some advice.
@Subjective Effect: Yes it is! Heard that track in the game Blur and thought it was amazing.
I really like the idea to this... just one thing id personally change is... the middle icon (phone) in that orb i would make a nifty weather widget. i know this is all early stages and that is just a very very early design-idea, but if u do need help with the concept and some ideas, my inbox is waiting would love to help out.

Thanks, but I think the phone-dialer is something that should always be in reach.
Also, check out these new sketches:
I would pay 20 bucks for this. I just need one homescreen if this happens. Very user friendly and obviously, Slick!
Looks very cool. PM me if you need testers.
How can i help?
I'd be willing to help. I work as a software engineer (Embedded C and Java systems) and have started looking at Android development recently. I created a simple client app for our remote machine monitoring system. Creating a full home replacement may be a bit above me right now, but i'm willing to help if i can

Hey Caemgen, I would love to help out, but I am still learning. I think I can contribute a lot if I am given a chance. Shoot me an e-mail [email protected] and fill me in on what you're looking for
Great concept! I hope you can find coders to make this happen. Let me know if you need a alpha/beta tester.

Excellent! So far, I've got three coders that would like to help me out with this.
You, Stork66 and another XDA-member that PM'ed me.
It would be convenient to have a place where we can meet up and chat in private to get going. Suggestions? Skype, perhaps? I don't know...

[ROM][Stock Espresso] MMModded CR_Mod Deodexed/Themes--Taking Requests! [12/25/10]

I'm fairly new to actually "cooking" roms, and in no way am I a developer, but I thought I'd contribute to a fairly slow developing community, just throw something somewhat different out there, a twist. I don't need the crap about not being original, no one wants to hear it. I'm aware of what I am posting, and that it is based off of another ROM. I am in no way calling this an original ROM. Please, don't hesitate to make comments or suggestions, or even to contribute something more. I'll gladly take advice and help from the community to better the ROM
I will also take requests for other themes to be ported to CR_Mod, but keep in mind that I am attending school, and that I have a life, and that this is a side project and it might take awhile to get through requests.
This ROM is based off of CR_Mod 1.35.531.1 OTA, so you MUST be rooted in order to flash this ROM. You can find out how to root your MyTouch Slide by reading the respective thread in the Slide Android Development section.
Almost all of the credit here goes to ChiefzReloaded, who originally gave us the rooted OTA stock ROM, MiguelTheRocker, who ported themes from other devices to CyanogenMod, which gave me the idea for this, and of course, MRagu, who originally made the AndroGreen theme.
Also thanks to TrueBlue_Drew for giving me TONS of advice and pointers while working with the theming obstacles.
Here is a full list of the modifications I made + the changelog:
12/19/10 Original
-Removed AmazonMP3 (honestly who uses that?)
-Deodexed
-Did my best to port the GreenSlide theme
-Added ADWLauncher (Don't worry, I didn't remove the Sense UI; see below for more info on that, minor glitch)
12/20/10 Revision 1
-Made minor color changes in the browser to match the theme
-More thoroughly ported GreenSlide (notification bar and its icons are now GreenSlide, UI is significantly more green now)
-Replaced HtcMusic and MyTouchMusic with MusicMod (the one that's in cyanogenmod, it's much sexier.)
12/21/10 Revision 2
-Fixed 9patch glitches (let me know if you find any, like buttons or text fields being stretched or distorted)
-Replaced HTC IME and Swype with the Gingerbread keyboard (I can't edit the secure android settings file without a platform certificate or something rather, so dragon dictation is set as the default on first boot, so the first time you enter text just longpress on the input field, input method, and gingerbread keyboard. If anyone knows a workaround or a way to set the default system keyboard, the help would be most appreciated)
-Even MORE thoroughly ported GreenSlide, the stock HTC apps and interfaces should either have the GreenSlide framework elements or at LEAST be green instead of blue. The only things that I know are still blue are the progress bar, and the big buttons in the MyModes app, the ones where you select change mode or change theme, and the ones where you select the widgets to be placed on the home screens.
-Added the circle battery meter (I love that thing )
-[12-25-10] Added flip window animations (If you already downloaded the ROM, there is a flashable update to add the animations [6:45 PM PST]
Issues:
-Default new SMS icon is still the old notification theme, white on solid black, so it doesn't look quite right against the gradient notification bar. Same thing with the USB icon. Still looking for the location of those two icons
-Default input method is not GB keyboard (if that's even a fixable issue)
-Browser loading progress bar has a 9patch glitch, will post an update tonight Fixed with the flashable update attached to this post. You need to flash this only if you downloaded revision 2 before 11:15 PM PST 12/22/2010. I integrated the browser fix and reuploaded it, so if you have not downloaded revision 2 yet, you don't need to flash this. (I tried to decompile the APK and edit the 9patch and then recompile it, but for whatever reason, there are framework resources missing, at least according to apktool, so it won't properly recompile the apk. So, I had to leave the progress bar blue. BUT the rest of the icons are still green. Sorry!)
I also attached a flashable update that will revert your battery icon to the regular icon, if you don't like the circle one.
Still to do:
-Live wallpapers (I'll probably just end up implementing this into the current revision, rather than bother with a separate one. For those of you that have already downloaded and are running this, I'll post a link to a flashable zip for live wallpapers, it'd be too much of a pain in the ass to flash a whole new rom just for live wallpapers) Attached a flashable zip to this post titled LWP.zip, but you ONLY need to flash this if you downloaded the full ROM before 5:55 PM PST 12/24/2010. I integrated the flashable zip into the full ROM and reuploaded it, so if you are just downloading, you don't need to flash the zip.
DOWNLOAD & INSTALL INSTRUCTIONS:
1. Download both of the files in this folder to the root of your SD card (the archive is for older versions, no need to download anything in that folder)
2. The GreenSlide Addons is a zip that contains LauncherPro icons and dockbar background, as well as wallpapers and a themed fancy widget to match the theme. Use it if you'd like by extracting and selecting manual shortcut and dockbar images in LauncherPro, which you can download from the market.
3. Reboot into clockwork recovery, and flash CR_Mod-Deodexed-GreenSlide-signed.zip
4. If you'd like, download dumfuq's OC kernel here, remember to edit your init.d files, or you might not boot. (I have found that the OC kernel actually increases battery life while sleeping, but it does drain quicker while awake. It makes everything really smooth though)
5. Use, you should be good to go
OPTIONAL: etu_aty provided this link for more mymodes themes if you'd like them, but they will override the green theming I did to the stock HTC apps (I won't include them in the ROM because they add 20 MB to a ROM that's already tight on space).
MORE INFO:
ADW Launcher info: For some reason, HTC Sense has itself set as the default launcher on first boot, so you have to go into Setings>Applications>Manage Applications>HTC Sense>Clear Defaults and then press your home button and select ADW Launcher to use ADW.
I initially was just going to do this for myself, because I hated the battery life issues on CM6.1.1, but I loved the theming I had on it. But, I also loved the battery life and 2d animation speed and quality on Sense ROMs, they never lagged with window animations and such, but I disliked the inability to theme. So I thought, why not try and combine the two? I also thought why not give it to the community, contribute, even if it isn't anything too special, you know? It's not an original ROM but it has some cool things like the GB keyboard and of course, the awesome theme, that I thought I'd share it.

I couldn't change the notification bar without making it glitch up, I'm still working on that. Also for some reason in certain htc apps, like contacts and settings, their theme still shows up for buttons. Basically, occasionally you'll see an occasional blue button or something, rather than the greenslide ones, but for almost everything it's themed. Like the dialer is still totally htc, as well as the contacts app for example. I will probably spend some time tonight working on getting it more completely themed, first priority is the notification bar, since that is only barely themed. When I get more work done on it I will post a flashable zip that will just replace the things I changed so that you don't have to go through a whole new wipe and reflash and resetup again. As for your facebook question, it syncs to your contacts but differently. You can't use the market facebook to sync, you have to use Facebook for MyTouch, which is built in. Then it links facebook friends to your contacts through the contacts app. You can also manually link facebook friends to your contacts by pressing link. When I'm done with this I may also port blackslide, or whatever the really black one that miguel ported is.
As for the dialer and other htc apps, I may be able to theme up settings, but probably not the dialer, it would screw it up to replace it with the stock android one I'm pretty sure.
I'll post a new full rom as well as an update zip when I get more work on it done tonight

This sounds (and looks) very cool. It's just what the CR_OTA needs. I think I'll flash and try this out. I'll report back and let Arayray know if you know what you're doing, as this is still Espresso.
Cheers, MusicMan.

Thanks! I still have a bit of work to do with the notification bar and possibly other HTC apps to make them more reminiscent of the theme, I'll post an update probably later today
Looking forward to it. This is great work.
Suggestions only if you're up for it: only thing I can think of is remove more stock apps. Too many open up on their own and run in the background frequently and are known to drain battery (in all roms). Other than that, I don't even need to tell you anything else. You got it pretty much covered.
I'm thinking this should be added to the Rom Bible.

Yeah I may take a shot at that again, but last time I tried that with some of the widgets, sense kept crashing because it couldn't open the widgets. When I froze calendar with titanium the phone wouldn't sleep because calendar sync was on, glitching everywhere. I'll take another shot, maybe remove some of the redundant music apps and include the musicmod app instead. Thanks for the input.
Update for everything else, themed up the browser to be a bit more green with the buttons, rather than the blue. No luck with the dialer, no matter how much I screw with the images it just won't display the images. Also, there is ONE notification icon that is still stock, the rest have been changed to GreenSlide. For whatever reason, the USB data icon is still white w/black background stock icon, you'll know what I'm talking about when I post the update. I just have to work on changing the text color of notification items and it should be ready to upload. I still have not figured out the stock HTC apps themes, I keep editing their individual drawable-mdpi folders, but they aren't effective when I push and reboot. It must be taking them from something else that I haven't found yet. Somehow it's retaining its own theming. I will post the work that I have in a little bit though. I will continue to look for the theming of the stock apps, it must be in some funky location.
Great job Musicman n_n
oh and another thing, since this is a espresso rom i dont know if you guys have all the themes (my modes) but i managed to get them from a thread somewhere and i removed the bubbles in the desktop and the drawer from all of them (i hate those freaking bubbles) if you want me to post them just tell me.. i have bubbles and no bubbles, i think there is 18 themes apk.. so you know, just let me know if you want them n_n

What exactly are you referring to, bubbles? And I didn't remove the themes, so yes they're there. I'm almost finished, just having a bit of trouble finding the XML files that specify the color of the text for the notifications themselves, they are black by default. Once I figure that out I'll upload. Then I'll get some work done hopefully with the stock app theming, that's next.

Oh yeah okay I see. Huh. Well this actually gave me a little bit more context to what I was doing. The default "nest" theme is the one I was actually editing when I was editing framework-res and such. If you change the mymode theme, it modifies a lot of the changes I made. But if you change it back to nest, it goes back. Interesting. This might actually help a lot with the issues I'm having with stock HTC apps.

I thought the same at first, but I actually like it more on the NC now than my Evo. I can now view more articles at once!
I agree .. it's good on the phone, great on the NC ...
It would be nice if they added a size option to scale up the articles in the app and on widgets.. The functionality of the app is hands down top class, but not quite tablet friendly (try adding a widget, you'll see).

I thought the widgets were lame on the Evo too, not just the NC. I dont like that it only shows a 4x1 and feeds from 1 source.

Pulse is the best RSS reader I've found on the nook so far, best part is that it syncs to google reader.
After playing with a LCD density changer app, upping the size of the desktop loses some sharpness but pulse and icons become easier to read and use... Give it a go if you want bigger buttons etc...
My Taptu does much the same thing, you might or might not prefer the interface on that. I like being able to drag to the left to update sources in Pulse, but otherwise they're both good in their own way.

LCD Density Changer can mess up the bottom task bar, 180 to 200 dpi seems to be about the maximum, after that the notification on the left and the quick change settings on the right, get pushed off screen. I don't know if those settings are optimal for Pulse though, I was checking thread for good news feed readers and saw your question. I haven't tried pulse yet.

Okay, I installed Pulse on my NC at a density of 220. On first impression it seems to fit the screen perfectly. The bottom task bar button that seems a little off at a 220 density, is the left one. The button goes off the edge, but can be pressed. I hope this helps, I've only been at this for 2-3 days and am still climbing the sharpest part of the NC learning curve.

I have noticed this on a number of applications, including Pulse... The edges of the NC are a little "touchy" and do not always recognize the tap very well. The same thing happens for me on Pulse trying to tap the two buttons at the top of the screen. If you notice on the B&N proprietary settings screen, the buttons they place at the top corner is much bigger (i.e. and comes down farther) and I never have a problem clicking on it. Of course, it could be that I have sausage fingers...but I don't have this problem on my Droid. Keep trying and eventually it will recognize the press...
I have started using Pulse, and I am addicted to it. It's a great app, and I hope it's updated to have a bit more functionality for tablets.

Thanks so much for pointing me towards LCD density I could tell that Pulse was a nice program without it but with it I can actually read the damn thing. Also, Markets easer to view now, the keyboard is easer and zeams icons are not so tiny anymore. That one program did so much. Highly recommend it to anyone looking to use Pulse, or really anything ells on there new NC
So far Pulse is one of the best RSS Readers I've tried so far, but there are two major gripes I have with it.
1. No "Mark all as read" option for sources.
2. Displays only a set amount of articles per feed. If I have more unread, they won't load.
** PS, If these things are possible (and I just can't find them), then please let me know.**
Pulse update today.... Better widgets and a "tablet" setting for larger windows and text... Wooo!!

Yep, reading in the app looks awesome now, no more teeny tiny fonts in the boxes.
However I agree, Pulse only offers X amount of recent stories, no way I know of to request more. So you gotta look frequently I suppose.
But it's great to read.. I still find the "back" functionality in it a bit weird sometimes.. Sometimes it brings up the list of current feed stories, sometimes it goes back to the main page with all feeds, other times it goes straight back to home (usually when I hit back twice when it's only wanting it once). Ah well.
