HTC apps - Click Themes and Apps

Hi fellows,
don't kill me if this has been posted before, i have searched.
How to port HTC apps to a custom ROM without the apps. I see the apps from another custom ROM, but when i try to install with adb i get the message, that a sharedlibrary is missing. I have tried to port all libs but it did not work.
No, i am not a programmer, but i know that was not the right thing to do, but i had to wipe and flash my device anyhow!

Hi,
No, you cannot port HTC apps to a custom rom without HTC framwork.

New to all this custom rom and rooting thing, need help from an experience user

Hi there
I'm new here, and I own a HTC Hero (GSM) which I really like it! I was waiting for the official 2.1 update from HTC but I soon found out that HTC keep postponing the release date and I really can't wait anymore.
I really want to root my phone and install a custom rom,I've keep searching for guides and "how to" toipics from XDA and google but I really don't understand a lot of what they were saying.
Alright here is my question
1. What is Vanilla,Espresso and this Kitchen thingy?
2. What does this full wipe means? does it really wipe all my data on my phone?
3. What is a busybox,VPN,APN, and AOSP?
4. What is this Launcher 2 and HelixLauncher thing?
5. Does the Custom Rom (Android 2.1 custom rom) have bluetooth file sharing features?
6. How do I install this "Apps 2 SD"?
7. Which is better way to root the phone? The unlokr.com (one click rooting) way or the XDA ones?
8. What is JIT? I've seen a lot of rom have this JIT enabled thingy...
9. Which is the best custom rom on XDA? (doesn't matter if it wasn't a Sense UI one,I just want a stable, fast, less buggy custom rom)
Sorry for asking a lot of qustions, but I really want to make sure what am I doing before rooting and installing custom rom on my HTC Hero.
many thanks in advance!

1.Vanilla=Type of ROM where is no HTC stuff like Sense included.
Espresso= Version of Android
Kitchen= Select which apps u want to use on certain custom ROM´s.
2: This mean u shoud wipe data/factory reset, wipe Dalvik(APP)Cache, Wipe SD:ExT Partition (If its there)
3.Busybox= Root Features for your Hero, VPN= ?, APN=Mobile Network Connection Points?, AOSP= Android Open Source Project
4.Launcher2= HomeApp with 5 Homescreens, HelixLauncher= Another Home App
5.Yes they have but u should not use them.
6. Different on every ROM. APPS2SD means that u can install apps on your SDcard.
7.One Click Rooting should not work anymore so u should use the XDA´s one.
8.JIT is a combile method that translate directly to maschine code i think please use google.
9.Best is Kimera 1.6 or Modaco 3.2 - u should not use 2.1 ROMS they are quiete to buggy!
I sell my Hero next Week when my Desire is Arrived =) But have fun with the Hero ;-)
PS: Sry for my bad English.
1. Vanilla means stock android, without any visual or functional enhancements. Espresso is a User Interface, just like Sense. The kitchen is used for adding or removing ROM components(and other stuff too).
2. Full wipe means erasing all data and cache. Yes, you lose all your installed apps, contacts, texts and such. Basically it's a factory reset.
3. Busybox extends the android shell functionality. VPN = virtual private network, APN = access point name, AOSP = android open source project -- you could google for all
As you can see, all the information i've provided you can be found by searching google. So, to help you enhance your 'googling' skills, I will let you answer the remaining questions by yourself.
Moreover, this is the development section. Next time post these kinds of questions in the Q&A section.

Should I wait?
Alright, sorry for double posting but I really want to ask this qustions, well actually I should ask this question myself but I want some opinion from u guys
Should I wait for the official release from HTC for the Android 2.1 with Sense for the HTC Hero?
just stay on original/stock rom . 2.73.xxx.xx
This is better. and wait for 2.1 update
it's my opinion.

You're asking mostly people who haven't waited... do you really think you'll get an objective answer?
How pissed off are you with 1.5? Have you seen/used 2.1? Did you like it? etc etc etc

Then if you install 2.1 stock, it'll lock the phone down removing the possibility of ever rooting it, no?
Personally I'd root it and go with modaco latest if you want it roughly as stock but with some bugfixes then you've got the option of using custom roms in the future or whatever you want. you only need to root it once then you can do whatever you like.

Use the official 1.5 rom for a week to two weeks, then root and install a few different custom roms for a week to two weeks and then see what you prefer, you can either stay rooted on a custom rom or you can revert back to the original 1.5 official
there is a reason why Google was invented. e.g. you would be able to find stuff on ROMs like http://android.modaco.com/content/h.../304106/revote-for-best-2-1-rom-w-benchmarks/

Edit: Alrite, there is another question, can I still use Chinese Keyboard when flashing the custom rom?

Is that an app or built in?
if built in, maybe - check with the rom creator first
if app - yes...
then,
does Kimera custom rom (android 1.5) have chinese input support?
and how about the Modaco custom rom (also android 1.5),does it also have chinese input support too?
and if u say that there is an app to enable chinese input, what is the name of the app?

OIC - i've no idea. Sometimes the custom rom's have support for other languages and keyboards, some have better support than others. Check the market before or check with your preferred rom developer before flashing!

Custom ROMs and application development

Hi,
I recently installed a custom ROM in my phone.
What I noticed is that the problem is either that my phone drivers can't be installed for some reason (I have a SGS being treated as a Google Nexus S), or I just can't implement applications.
I mean that when I try to build an application on Eclipse, my phone is not recognized, like I don't have it plugged in.
Which one is it?
anyone?

What do you mean by "I just can't implement applications"?
Do you mean you cannot install apps from the market? If so, are you sure you installed a ROM for the Samsung Galaxy S? Have you manually changed your screen DPI or is the ROM modified in any way regarding the screen DPI?

I didn't describe my problem, my bad.

I am pretty sure there is a simple answer and tons of people know if developing apps on custom roms is available. I dont get why none answers

Install the drivers for your device.
Comes up I had the drivers. I tried reinstalling them and it didn't work again.
I also tried it in another PC with no luck
Not sure if it matters but the custom ROM I have is Dark Knight 3.

[Q] DNA - is it deodexed or not?

Thanks
No, but you are able to disable the apps. So it helps, if you don't want to root.

Correct. Most (if not all) factory default roms are odexed. As for installing a custom rom, I'd look at Supercharged Hatka if you want a stock look with tweaks. If you want an AOSP looking rom, go to Battery Plus (Something along the lines of that... Forgot the exact name)
Although once CM10 is working fully, I'd 100% recommend that to anyone!

I would also take a look at Viper if you like to get into deep customization of your phone. Lots of fun stuff to play with in that ROM.

S-off for the hox+ does not exist.

Are you rooted and running a custom ROM? If yes, simply flash back your ROM without wiping, you will keep all your settings, personal DATA and preferences. Take 5 minutes to do.
Nope, still stock ROM! I"d like to leave stock ROM, if its possibloe to fix it?
I"m total beginner in this case, i never flash anything before. so now i will know that allways need BACKUP.
If your are on stock ROM, you are left with less option. Backup what you can and Reset to factory default would be the easy choice. Sorry. Backup all your virtual SD before doing so.
Then i will try to ROOT and flash custom ROM!
Thanks a lot for help!!:good:
If you are rooting, your phone will completely be wiped, even your SD card. If you need help don't hesitate!
You always hold the home button to pull up search and enter any app.
Problem sorted. ARHD 6.5 flashed and lyapota mod added. Better than stock.:victory:

It is simple, nothing will work if the ROM is not close to AOSP.
In order to get GB to work, you will need to ditch your stock ROM and install a custom ROM which are extremely AOSP-based (CM won't get it work too).
If you insist, then you can do only nothing as the dev behind GB already stresses that GB are for AOSP ROMs and he will never ever interested on giving unsupported devices any support
Unless you're so desperate for it
You can learn compiling and decompiling so that you can grab some GB source code and make it work on your stock ROM.

That's not how custom ROM works. And what you have done is seriously wrong
Flashing a completely new ROM is better than the unsafe file overwriting inside /system/xxxxx . Though it might be working in your eyes, however I am pretty sure there are many errors in the logcat since you have mixed up your ROM with unfamiliar files.
Flash a custom ROM that is AOSP or code a new app that does what GB does for your device
Please take note of the above paragraph. That's the choices you have.
I was using GB before. Since I tried CM, and loved it, I have been known that GB won't be supported on CM. What I did was I completely abandon GB. I even have donated to such app. I feel sad, but yea life must go on
