need to know how to remove hard screen film protector - XPERIA X10 Q&A, Help & Troubleshooting

dose anyone know how to remove the hard film from the sony x10 comes already with the phone ...

You mean the stock screen protector?
Yeah, it's a pain as it's so thick that it's hard to remove. I just used my nail to try to lift a corner (took a while). Once I was able to raise enough to get a grip on it, I was able to grab the lifted corner and pull it right off.
Now I have a beautiful Clear-Coat protector instead.

Which clear coat are you talking about?

Clear-Coat X10 Screen Protection

They also have a full-body kit, it you want to protect the back of the phone as well

After remove the stock screen protector, i found out that my fone already has another screen protector on it. :|

thanks, I ordered the screen plate only. If my housing ever gets too scrathed up or dented, I will simply get a new housing from dealextreme under 30 dollars.

I know SE shipped a spare screen protector in with the X10s in some regions. That was in addition to the stock screen protector they had factory installed. So if that was the case for you and you applied the spare, then yeah you would've had 2 installed.
Haven't heard of them applying 2 at the factory, but I wouldn't be surprised if a few slipped through like that.

Yeah, I figured the same thing and thus also went only with the screen film. Application is easy, and the film is ultra-thin.

I hadn't noticed it already came with one until reading a post on xda, so made me chuckle as I'd stuck on another one too.

Kinda late but I'll give in my 2 cents on how to remove the factory installed cover.
All we are trying to do is to remove the cover so we'd want something rigid but not hard/sharp enough to scratch up or break the screen. The best solution that I was able to come up with is to use a plastic knife (I'm sure you can find one in a plastic children's cutlery set). I used a Zespri Kiwifruit Spife
Next, using the plastic knife, attempt to scrape up one of the corners. This took me about 5 tries for me (about 4 seconds). When that's done, use the knife to prise/scrape up as much of the protector as you need to grasp it and pull it off.

The razor is the best tool for lifting the cover up

Why bother removing the stock screen protector if you don't mind me asking? Especially if it's in good condition.
Does the performance of the touch screen improve? Is it still better than stock if you remove the factory protector and add that clear coat one?

I took the protector off because it was all scratched up. Didn't put another one on. The screen is very very tough. No scratches at all so far

lol, i think noone's trying to answer the OP's question. I got my stock screen protector removed with my nails and a flat plastic like a guitar pick or something. It takes a lot of patience and time...it took me about half an hour just to get a corner up, but once you get the corner it shouldn't be that hard to pull it out. Hope it helps

awesome my screen got scratched the other week and read this post and removed film lol
Rooted X10 FTW now what wheres our custom 2.2

Took mine off today to install an anti fingerprint one. What a pita it was to take off. Ended up using a knife to start peeling it off from the top corner.

thanks for the advice it works.... maybe if there was a different way to do it would be great....

Well I did it yesterday. Just used a Stanley blade really really carefully on bottom right corner. then it was easy as pie. I scratched my screen with the combination of sand and a hardcase, it made awful marks on it. So gettin rid of the old fabric screen protector was needed.

lols... I also did not notice that there was a stock screen protector... I just peeled off 2 layers of protectors... now I hope that between now and the time after work that it takes to get a replacement I dont scratch the screen... fingers crossed

So if I am not getting it wrong then my X10i came pre-applied with a screen protector and an extra screen protector?

screen protector in the box?

Does it comes with screen protector in the box? Like Touch Pro..
Asking because I ordered one, until it comes from Hong Kong...
to have something on screen...
thx
yes there is, as is a soft protection bag.
there is but...
Yes there is a screen protector in the box but I heard that it is not the top quality... So you better buy a quality type like BRANDO ULTRA CLEAR Protector Plus.
I will by this type when I buy my HD! I used the same brand for my Qtek S200 for over a year and I'm very satisfied with it.

I think the screen protector is not too bad, it is hard plastic not that rubbery stuff. It is certainly nothing like those cheap ones that you find in local shops and it covers the whole face of the phone, not just the screen. The cloth bag cover that comes with it is OK, but it is a bit thick. I found a black silicon cover that is made for the iPhone 3G, I made the hole bigger for the earphone plug and a new hole in the back for the camera. I saw this video of it on YouTube (not my video http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=xUOgFQ8dpzo . It isn't a perfect fit but it's pretty good until the official covers are available.
The hard plastic covers made for the iPhone won't fit the HD
My story: i snobbed the screen protector since i never used any in the last 10 years, and peeled it badly since i thought i would have never used it...but looking better to it, it was not too bad! then, I ordered two original replacement protectors from HTC, installed it VERY carefully....and now they are essentially invisible and you'd need time to realize that the screen protector is actually present....
So, refrain from excitement when you open the box!
I thought I'd read to steer clear of the protector in the box? You guys are saying to go ahead and put it on?

Well, i disagree.
I seem to be able to get the phone in it with minimun effort, seems that it expands after a little use, like new shoes or clothes...
my gf put on the screen protector that came with the phone.. and i guess shes good at it haha cuz we put it on with no bubbles.. no edges up.. no nothing. PERFECT. it looks great. dont even notice it. ive been using the pouch that came with it and i like it. works fine.. squeeze from the bottom to take it out and just hold it slightly firm on the sides to put it in.. pushing down from the 3.5mm jack so you dont accidentally turn on the screen again with the power button.. gets slightly easier after a bit .. dont be scared =P
Is the screen protector in the box the same as the ones sold on htcaccessorystore.com (and other places like expansys) :
HTC Touch HD Screen Protector SP P200 (2 Pieces) ??
http://www.htcaccessorystore.com/uk/p_htc_item.aspx?i=173045
I managed to put on the original screen protector with little hassle but hate the quality. Hope martins ship their fast.
is there a need for screen protector at all. I mean can I damage thescreen with stylus or my fingers?
YES! and a good quality piece!
I had accidentally hit my kaiser screen with seat belt metal piece, thinking screen is damaged. Therefore, not willing to remove the film to face the reality. Only yesterday, after confirming my blackstone is configured and running well, I removed my Kaiser screen protector. The screen is good as new. The dent on the film is "high"! Thanks to the martin shield.

Now how the hell you did that ? :< I re-applied it 150 times and i need to be like super precise on it not to go left or right even for 0.0001mm
hell yeah screen protectors are necessary!
the screen will mark over time with stylus use and of course anything that "accidentally" hits it that is hard will cause marks, and no matter how careful you are, accidents happen
ive got the packaged screen protector on and its not too bad but i have a martin fields one ready to go on instead once the htc one starts to wear
I tried multiple times to apply the protector and was always off by a hair by the time got to the bottom. When I finally got it on straight there was enough dust on under it that I got disgusted and peeled it off again. I didn't give up though and ordered the OEM screen protectors again (two to a pack) and this is how I finally installed it properly:
1. Wash your hands.
2. Wipe the phone screen clean of any dust and fingerprints.
2. Find as dust free an environment that you have.
3. Peel the top edge of the protector only then line up this up with the top of the phone.
4. Slowly apply to the protector to the phone while allowing the backing to peel off. Make sure you don't allow it to totally come off.
5. You will soon know if it's going to lay flat in the slightly recessed area of the phone screen. The protector is exactly the same size as the recessed area and there is no room for error.
6. If not, peel the protector off again while allowing the backing to reseat on the protector but not all the way to the top.
7. Reposition the top edge very slightly and repeat. It will probably take several tries to get it right. It took me about 6 times but it looks very good when done.
The replacement protectors are easier to apply because the backing is the same size as the protector so it's easier to align with the phone.
If you're careful to not touch the adhesive side of the protector and are lucky enough not to have any dust settle on it, the final result is indistinguishable from the unprotected phone surface.
I'm very curious. Does anybody know why HTC doesn't supply the machine with the screen protector already installed?

Screen Protectors?

I was just wondering if anyone had got a screen protector yet and if so which ones people recommend?
SE already applied a screennprotector on the screen. Looks closely and you'll notice it, it's almost invisible.
yea no need to get a new one. no point on having two screen protectors.

With most screenprotectors you can easily remove them by pressing with your nail at the edge of the protector (press it parallel tot the screen). I don't think the X10 protector will be any different.
I think zagg has a invisible shield for it.. but zagg is overpriced!
there's already a screen protector on it?? i just picked one up from rogers today.. and all there is was a piece of cheap plastic with air bubbles everywhere
Yes, screen protectors.
This is the best quality/price protector. from 3M, not glue for stick to the screen, anti-static, and washable, can be remove a put back. No buble.

Remove that piece of bubbles and below that piece is an screenprotector already applied to the screen. Look closely at the edges.
I have just got mine yesterday from Rogers as well. I can see the edging you talk about where it seems there is a protector on it, but after several attepmts, I can not get a corner to lift. I am certain that it is not a removable screen protector.

best way to remove screen protectors is to use scotch tape ~ stick it on a corner tighten it by pulling away from the phone and lift ~ try several time and different corners if it doesn't lift. i've done it with thousands of phones as i used to work @ places that applies them ~ works every time

I do not want to remove it. I'm a fan of using screen protectors as having a permanently scratched screen makes me cry. So I want to make sure I do have one and if not, to get one ASAP. So I tried to lift a corner to see if it indeed does have a protector applied. Even after reading these posts and the link that was directed to me I can not remove this alleged protector that's already on my screen.
It's funny, because I have watched some un-boxing videos and some show screen protectors that came in the box with the device. (Rogers does not) I'm curious to as why that would be if there is one already on the device. Is it that it was an "extra" protector or merely one that was expected to be placed on by the user; where as the Rogers version apparently has theirs already installed by the manufacturer?
It's hard to get a definite answer as people post here from many many different countries. Each x10 launch in the countries has been different in some way. Some with the screen protector in box like I mentioned, some with a 8gb sdcard, some with a 16gb, some with a head set AND the mw600 in the box, some with just the ear phones and no mw600...
So I still stand by my own findings, I can not remove this invisible screen protector, using tape, or the other tricks floating around, making me believe that it does not have a "typical" screen protector that is applied on top of the actual screen. A few calls to various local Rogers stores has yielded zero results in confirmation, with all 3 saying , "No, the x10 does not come with a screen protector in the box" when I ask "what about it being already installed" and they scoff saying they have never heard of that.
hmmm.. if that's the case then i think i should buy a screen protector. mines Rogers x10 too.
Zagg screen protector
I bought the Zagg invisi-shield after i saw one on an iphone. Took me a good 45 mins to get it on with out any bubbles. I think its worth the extra cash as you get full body coverage and it improves the grip - so it doesn't feel like its gonna slip out of your hands all the time (a must for me as i habbit of droping things like this).
Also i'm not a fan of silicon covers or leather pouches - whats the point of spending money on a good looking phone like the X10 and then have to cover it up??? Show it off i say!!!

I'm planning to buy full body protector too because my white x10 looks kinda ugly with fingerprints all over the body

[Q] Will glass screen on X10 scratch easily?

i got a question for everyone here, my factory applied screen protector for my X10 is peeling off and im getting sick of seeing it looking like crap, and im on the verge of removing it, but im worried the glass on the screen will get scratched easily espeically when using it, when i had my old touch pro it got a hairline scratch just using it when i swipe on the screen and im fearing it might happen to my X10
will i experience any scratches(hairline etc.) very easily if i remove my protector? i usually have my phone in a carrying case on my belt
thanks

Yes it will get scratched easily, I speak from my own (unpleasant) experience...
1 year without protector! not a single scratch.. I also put it in my pocket, not in any type of case.
Dude, just be safe and get a protector
Just get one of those anti-glare ones off eBay, works like a charm.
unless you go at the screen with something sharp (knife, screwdriver, etc) then you will not scratch it. I have had no screen protector on it for months, not a single mark. infact, it looked worse when there was a screen protector on it!!
also, remember there are 2 protectors on these phones. a lot of people remove the first one, then scratch the 2nd one and think they have scratched the glass
scratch free

+1 just hit a year with no screen protector, and still scratch free! winning!
I took of the original screen protector when i received the phone...but then I read about the second screen protector and i realised that i still had that one on as well.
It was getting scratched and was hard to clean so a couple of weeks ago i took it off..(very easily although some people find it hard, maybe because it seems stubborn to come off at first)
Well, since then I have NO scratches on my phone, even though i keep it in my posket with my keys and loose change...
Also, it cleans up a lot better from the fingerprints than the screen protector did.
the only reason I can think why SE put it on is if you crack the screen it keeps the tiny pieces together so it doesnt cut you, but that means you still have cracked screen...it doesnt protect your screen, just their bank balance if you sue them!!
Lets not forget that once removed it becomes sensitive to moisture.

My friend somehow scratched the screen with his nail, and now there are fine scratches on my screen...one of which is causing a rainbow effect when the screen turned white. Any help on removing,or at least reducing the scratches?thanks for any help
Believe it or not, but the X10 comes with a clear non-scratch resistant screen protector. Look closely along the edges around the screen, and use a razor blade to separate it from the screen. You can buy replacement screen protectors on ebay for $1 each. However, they are difficult to apply. I quit using one altogether, and I have found the bare screen to be very scratch resistant.

Buy a Rewashable Screen protector for 1.59$ ( or 2 for 2.99$ ) from ebay. The screen doesn't even react to water now
I put a screen protector on mine without any bubbles. I used water to get it to slide in place and squeegeed the water out.
Also had the battery out and put it in a bag of rice afterwards just in case water got inside. That was 8 months ago and still working well. The only negative is it decreased the sensitivity of the touch screen slightly, but I got used to it.

easy to scratch screen

I am not happy with my new Xperia S or Sony's attitude. I only had the phone a week and the screen has many fine scratches. I am extremely careful with my phones - my original Desire's screen is unmatied. With the Sony statement forth Xperia being scratch resistant I felt I was on safe ground - after all I'd come back to Sony to rediscover the quality I yearned and always had on previous Sony phones since my Z1 back in '96.
I've treated my Xperia the same as those before it - the most extreme condition being loose in my inner suit pocket with my work BlackBerry. And this is exactly what has covered it in scratches - the pitch of the scratches matching that of the cheap plastic keys on the BlackBerry.
And to insult me properly I get the below response from Sony, as if they are sniggering from around the corner.
"Thank you for contacting the Sony Xperia support centre.
We can confirm the handset is scratch resistant, however not scratch proof, it is still possible to scratch the screen of the handset, we apologize for any confusion caused by this."
I though this was Sony trying to get back on a level with the top guys... With gorilla glass everywhere else many (me included) assumed Sony's claim of scratch resistant meant some proprietary equivalent.
One Sony Xperia S for sale. ....... Only loads of minor scratches...
You aren't aware that your Xperia S came screen protector preinstalled? Glass underneath is scratch proof mineral glass.
Mate i believe you scratched the protective screen protector, as it is really easy to get scratched, even with a fingernail you will be able to scratch the screen protector ( minimal scratch ofc )
Remove the screen protector and your scratches will be gone
watch from minute 2:40:
is it really the screen or the screen protector?
The preinstalled plastic is not a screen protector, but for keeping the glass together if the screen cracks so the glass is not going everywhere in the air.
I would say as the ppl above, this is scratched, not the screen
Dont worry. U can take it off and use the actually screen protector that came in the box!

I assume if I search around the forum will I find plenty of good advice on replacement screen protectors? ie one that don't scratch when you sneeze on them!

If you dont want to see any scratch in your screen, I'd recommend you to search for a 'Matte' screen protector, which I've chosen to be from Steinheil for my past phones: They -are- the best ones offered. A bit expensive though...
They seem a bit blurrier than the crystal clear ones, but I guarantee the 'soft touch feeling', no more oily screens and no scratches makes up to that.
Specially because we have a bright screen with sharp colours so there'll be no problem I guess.
Wait, so there's actually a screen protector on the phone from the factory?
Can I remove it? Any benefits to removing it?
I can barely see it on the glass, almost missed this.

Yes there is.
Look closely to the corner of the screen.
Yes you can take it out.

Even gorilla glass can be scratched with keys or against another hard object like another phone, every phone to date is susceptible even your Desire which doesn't come any protection against ware and tare.
It's toughened glass not steel, Sony is exactly right with the screen being scratch resistant, not scratch proof just like any other mobile maker will tell you and just like all other mobiles/tablets currently in circulation.
Seriously don't put your brand new mobile in with your keys, coins, junk etc, wait a few months at least like I do lol.
Completely agree with ErichSan, I hate the oily/smudgey feeling screen protectors also.

He's peeling of the plastic that is there to keep the glass together if it breaks. The preinstalled plastic filter does NOT protect against scratches (it may work a little bit against scratches). If u really want one who protects, the phone came with a screen protector in the box.

Well according to Sony it's a bit different as you suggest here, I asked the
question directly on the Sony forum see the reply I got:
