Icons and screen size - Vibrant Themes and Apps

Maybe its just me, but icon packs, even those who claim to be HD or are Android 2.0+ seem to be REALLY small on this device.
What can I do to ensure a good set of good sized icons for bettercut?

[Q] increase font and icon size - SOLVED

I know it has been asked but i don't see any good answers.
I want to make icons and text a big bigger.... the screen density is nice, but if i want just 4 rows, then i would like my icons a bit bigger.
It seems SweeterHome 2 is the only option, but it doesn't have a Dock and the learning curve is steep.
Any ideas?
ADW Launcher EX - the paid version lets you increase font size and icon size. I find it just looks better on the higher density screen and i still get to use the Moto widgets.

large icons theme without resorting to editing LCD density?

Are there any large icon/dock themes with larger fonts out there that I can use without having to resort to editing the LCD Density via an app or editing the build.prop file?
I ask because my mother is considering getting a Nook Color, and her eyesight isn't the best plus I want to avoid her fat fingering the wrong icons
I don't want to modify LCD density because of sharpness loss.
Even a theme that has the icon size for application grid, status bar, and dock modded to be (significantly) larger would work great. I've tried ADW and Zeam but they don't offer the functionality I need.
In the newest update of ADW EX, you can set the size of the icons and text without having to change the density.
Desktop Visualizer lets you change the icon size of apps on your home screen. Not in the app drawer though.

Thanks, I downloaded it and like it, I wish it would let you edit the status bar + icons size too though.
LauncherPro doesn't have some feature that can do this that I can't find, does it?

To get larger fonts "in general" the option resides in the Spare Parts App, but it doesn't effect the size of the icons or home, menu, or search buttons.
So I bought ADW EX and it's exceptionally buggy on my Nook Color and on my HP TouchPad. However, I do really like how things look on the TouchPad with the large HDPI icons. Is there really no way to use those icons in a more stable launcher? I'd love to use 72x72 icons in VTL, GO, or LPP if possible, at least until ADW EX is more stable...

I have ADW.ex and yes, there are a few bugs but typically only with first launch. From a reboot or cold boot you have to relaunch adw and then it is smooth sailing. My biggest gripe is that you can't hide apps in the app drawer.

The size setting there only affects Google AOSP apps. It doesn't even affect Google's other apps.

[Q] Optimal use of the screen size ? (Loss of screen space)

My last phone was a HTC Desire, now I use the Galaxy S3.
It's a great phone, but what a king size icons and a loss of screen space. On the home screen I have 4x4 space for icons, a large slider 4x1 and a dock for 4x1. When you use some widgets that are 4x2 the half of the screen is filled.
Starting the contact app shows me a few rows of contacts. But with a font size that can be read from outer space.....(font size in settings set to tiny)
Do you agree with this ?
Are there any opportunities (custom roms) to improve this ?
Maybe Apex launcher can solve some of these things...
Change your dpi

Nice to have such a choice!
Good to know that the dpi can be changed. But these middle aged eyes of mine will be thrilled that stuff is bigger on the screen. Awesome!
Download Apex Launcher or Nova Launcher. Both are smooth, free and have customizable desktop grids. I really loved the smoothness of the stock GS3 launcher but the lack of space was a dealbreaker for me.

A Few Things I Noticed Missing

Started getting down and dirty with Themer last night from a designer's standpoint. I know some of these issues can be solved by theming the majority on my home pc, but i wanted to point out some things that are missing that would make pure mobile theming possible/easier (that's what i want out of this or any theming apps. i can easily create the majority of my themes on a pc when going the apex/nova route, but i want to theme strictly on my phone which is what i assume is the main point/appeal of launchers like Themer).
OK, here they are:
1) Icons - I'd like to have control over my icons while theming. Even giving us an option to select from Themer's icons would be nice. As it currently stands, you have to choose icon images from and only from your photo gallery. If we can't import custom icon packs, the ability to select from Themer's icons would be great.
2) Everything Widget "Layers" - This is a great feature, but can be polished. I tried to edit some existing widgets (google play theme, wanted to put my own image/slideshow instead of the random google banner images) and once i put the new image up it covered up the "google now" search bar. There are currently no options or toggles to change layers in the widgets.
3) Layout Issues - When i am working on putting up new widgets the orientation is all wacky. Sometimes it'll stagger the widget grid onto the left or right page, meaning that it isn't centered on the screen i'm working on. makes aligning and tweaking the layout really tough.
That's all i've got now. Any fixes or suggestions are welcome, but i thought it'd be helpful to roll up some of the issues we as themers are having. I REALLY love being able to just throw a new theme on my phone at any given time and the available themes are all nice looking and pretty tight when it comes to performance....i just can't help but adjust and tweak once i get my hands on them >.<

[Q] Tiny icons

Nice application but the icons and text are really tiny on my S2
Until we can change the size of icons, I return to my Nova

You have to consider that the program is in beta, and some themes don't work so good.
Yup, we're still in beta.
We're working on icon scaling for a future version which will fix this issue. :victory:
Icons are small since Themer has a grid of 13x9 by default which makes the icons take less space. Change the grid size if you want bigger icons. But it will mess up the theme of course if you are using one.
Themer's icon size
The size of the icon also depends on the grid size. With other launchers, increasing the grid size will lead to icons becoming cropped, Themer makes them smaller.
What may help is increasing the grid size, to do this, go into: Themer Actions > Advanced > Desktop, and you can decrease the grid size from here. Take note that your widgets will be affected and will have to be resized accordingly. Hope this helps!
