US Cellular TP2 Android - Touch Pro2, Tilt 2 Android General

The only cab I can get to work is from:
androidonhtc (could not post the link)
How can I incorporate a self updating start up utility with this cab? Any idea why I cant get the newer versions to work any other USCC people having this problem? I do not have a SIM card at all. Even with the few things that do not work, it seems alot better than WM.

USCC specific instructions for HTC Touch Pro2
First, credit where credit is due. These instructions are just specific tweaks for US Cellular customers of the original FAQ http: //sites.google.com/site/androidport/faq by Reefermattness and the most effective method for US Cellular Data in http: //forum.ppcgeeks.com/showthread.php?t=113441&page=13 post 127 by clifftrue. You'll need to register on PPCGeeks to download files linked in this procedure. This procedure should save you a couple of days of reading and a few reboots in the process.
I have an HTC Touch Pro2 on US Cellular in Chicago. I don't have a SIM card. My phone has the FN in light blue, with SYM on the , key and : on the N key. Yes, Android is a huge improvement over WinMo. Here's what you want to do.
Go get a new SD card just for XD Android. 2GB is recommended.
Go to http: //sites.google.com/site/androidport/downloads and download the CAB - Android v2.2 Froyo: BLAZN (click where it says View). Copy that .CAB file to your new SD card.
Put the SD card in your phone. In WinMo, go to Programs, File Explorer. Open My Device, Storage Card, and open ProjectAndroid2.2BLAZN.072110 - this will install Project Android and extract the files onto your SD card. Reboot after the installation.
After the reboot, use your phone to dial ##778, then press View in the screen. Press View Info in the lower left corner, scroll down, and choose M.IP Default Profile. Write down your NAI (should be something like 2245551212 @ uscc.net). Hit OK in the upper left to exit.
Remove the SD card from your phone and put it back in your computer. Create a new folder called gscript in your Storage Card. Click http: //forum.ppcgeeks.com/attachment.php?attachmentid=64040&d=1269451299 to download the USCCFIX.txt. Put USCCFIX.txt into the Storage Card/gscript directory you just created. Double click on USCCFIX to open it with a text editor. In that file, in all three spots, carefully replace 6414251234 with the numeric part of your NAI that you wrote down. Save and Exit the text editor. Rename USCCFIX.txt to USCCFIX.sh
Click http: //gscript-android.googlecode.com/files/GScript.apk and download GScript. Copy that file (GScript.apk) to the Storage Card/andboot/AndroidApps directory.
Put the Storage Card back in your phone. Go to Programs, All Programs, and run Project Android. Make sure you're in Device Family: Rhodium, choose rhod400 for the keyboard layout, check the Force CDMA box, then press Run Android in the lower left.
This should be the first time you're booting Android on this storage card, so it will take a while. Once Android has started, press your Windows key, then choose Settings, Applications, Manage Applications, then On SD Card in the upper right. Install GScript if you find it there. If it's not there, that's fine. Press Downloaded in the upper left, and make sure GScript is there. Press the Power button on the top of your phone to exit the Settings screens.
Press the grid of squares at the bottom center of your display. Press GScript. Press the physical Windows key and select Add script, Load file. Tap the usccfix.sh file listed, and press Save. Now tap usccfix (only item in the list) to run it. After it runs, press the ‘Close’ button at bottom. You're back at the Android main screen. Hold down your End key, choose Power off and reboot your phone.
Your phone will reboot to WinMo. Again, go to Programs, All Programs, and run Project Android. It should remember Rhodium and rhod400 for the keyboard layout, but you'll need to check the Force CDMA box. Press run Android in the lower left. Once Android starts, it will take a few minutes for it to connect to the data network. When you see the 3G icon up by the battery meter at top, you're set.
And finally, avoid any Marketplace apps that say they "prevent sleep mode." They'll cause the Sleep of Death (SoD) that everyone finds so frustrating.
I'm new, so I can't use hyperlinks until I'm unlocked by a mod. Once I am, I'll fix the hyperlinks.

Could an 8gb sd card cause a problem?

My data was working fine on my older version of android, will taking all of these steps help me get Froyo? I think when I have tried to install it in the past, the install has been unsuccessful, I will try it tom. and let all the other USCC users know.

Should my M.IP Default Profile # be the same as my phone number?

I got it working thanks so much for your help, how long are you able to use it on a charge? Is there somewhere that I can update it automatically have you had any luck with that?

q&a
Your last three posts were all in 30 min. If you were able to install Android and run it in 30 min, then that's about as tight a procedure as anyone could want.
Somewhere I read that 2GB was the max for the Touch Pro 2, but the official site doesn't give a limit. Did you use an 8GB SD card?
Your M.IP Default Profile will be your phone number if you've never moved it from another carrier. If you originally had a phone number on AT&T, for example, and you moved it to US Cellular, then your M.IP Default Profile will be a different number.
As Reefermattness says on the main thread ( http: //forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=627997 ), the battery meter is about 50% working right now. You'll get about the same battery life as when you're running WinMo, but Android will bother you about low battery well before you're really running low. I've made a couple of calls and run for over two hours in Android with my battery meter in the red. There's a big risk of the battery not ever taking another charge if you drain it entirely, so don't do that unless you're ready to buy a new battery.
No, Android won't update automatically between builds. Hopefully this procedure makes each fresh installation as fast as possible. Good luck!

The only SD card I have have is an 8gb. When I looked up my M.IP Default Profile, it was not my number and this phone has only been on USCC, I bought it on Black Friday. Do you think it is a return that someone else may have had? Are they getting billed for my data usage?
When you click the PA icon, the bottom left soft has an update option. Have you tried this? I know it will not auto update, but it might on demand? Thanks again for all of your help.

M.IP Default Profile is specific to the US Cellular network. It's not usually your phone number, which is why you have to find it with ##778. No, your M.IP Default Profile is not any one else's number, and no one else is getting billed for your data.
I've updated apps with an automatic notification, but you still need to manually upgrade to a new version of android manually.

When you click the PA icon, then click the left soft key, update. This gives you the option of zImage/rootfs/ and intrd.gz. Did not know if this works. I guess you would have wait for a new release to try it.

You're using the BLAZN build? From when? Last release of that was... 9.28.2010 IIRC.
Please update.

Bluetooth and SD Card

Hello!
I didn't find any solution in internets, so here I come:
About a week ago I've upgraded my Wizard from WM5 to WM6. It was a great idea, everything works fine & fast, but one problem appeared.
Some new bluetooth features appeared in WM6, among them some kind of virtual SD card, named "bluetooth". It has 0 MB and when I go there in explorer, phone starts searching for bluetooth devices.
images46 .fotosik .pl/257/b9c1ee898c55a5f1 .jpg
(please delete spaces before dots, as new user I can't insert links and images lol)
At first, there weren't any problems with that, but yesterday my phone has shut down (low battery), I've recharged it, turned on and then strange thing happened:
images48 .fotosik .pl/258/82c328305e924b67 .jpg
(please delete spaces before dots, as new user I can't insert links and images lol)
so it's like "cards" has changed their places. PDAstatus shows this strange "bluetooth" as my main SD card, just as camera and some other programs...
basic steps like turning bluetooth on/off doesn't work, just as soft reset and reinserting sd card.
Probably I need to change something in registry, but what and where?
any help would be appreciated.
regards
edit:
turning off bluetooth explorer worked, but i liked that feature. i would like to keep both "cards", with SD as "default", just as it was at the beginning.

Touch pro problem

Bought a touch pro knowing that the backlight on the screen works, but that the actual screen doesn't. I've tried connecting it to the computer and it said it that the phone needs to be unlocked first...i was going to see if I could unstall SOTI on there and use the computer to view the screen and stuff...i've tried hard resets and I'm lost can anyone help.
Bad screen or flex cable
Open and close the handset while it is turned on, if it flickers or you see any color or shape goasting then the flex cable is needs replacing.
If you can see the backlight on, and nothing changes then look for impact damage, usually something/somone fell on it.
If no damage markings, then the unit is probably locked, an no one knows the code.
Contact seller for more info?
I haven't try to recover a locked TP yet.
But, If your up to trying something. Find the correct "Service Provider" up-date or original shipped ROM from HTC support, this forum or PPCGeeks.com.
With the shipped .exe ROM packages, the TP can be put in bootloader and "Clean Flashed" without needing to be unlocked or add anything.
This how updated ROM are delivered and installed from HTC.
Hope this bit of info helps. I have the Last Alltel .exe if you need it.
Thanks for the info but sadly that didn't work. The loader says it can't establish a connection.
Well update got the phone to hard reset and now it's unlocked can anyone walk me though what happens after the hard reset. Like after the hard reset what screens show up show that i can set this up without the screen and use my SOTI program to view the screen on the computer

Here is the thing. The rom is going to start up doing the initial setup (calibration, time zone selection, etc). Mymobiler might work better since it installs via activesync and connects to the device the moment you plug it in. Give that a go and see if it works.
Thank you i will try that
Probably not the right place to ask but is there someway i can install a program on the phone without any kind of input from myself...ie putting mymobiler or similar cab file and having it run it when i inserted the memory card and i not having to make any kind of inputs on the screen? seeing as i can't see anything?

If you put an autorun file in the root of the card pointing to that cab, you should be able to do this. However, the device will ask you if you want to install to memory or storage. I guess if you simply press the "Enter" button (circle in the D-pad), it might just do it.

[Q] keypad acting funny

I am pretty much a novice when it comes to Android. Had Honeycomb installed on my Gtab and it runs great. Have had it about two months with the upgrade and now I cannot get it to lock the wallpaper (resets back to factory each startup). Also, it will not keep wifi on (resets to off on Restart). In addition, the keypad is hard to get to work for keys on the outside of the screen. Letters like a and L do not work unless you hit them a number of times and sometimes they project a letter with a character over or under it. Also when I type on the upper keys, I sometimes get a number.
I have tried adjusting the long press setting but this does not appear to help.
Looking to the group for some advice? Is there a way of resetting back to the way it was when GB was first installed?

If you copy files onto the internal SD card, then reboot the tablet, do the newly copies files stay put or do they disappear after the reboot? Similarly, if you delete files/directories from the internal SD card, then reboot, do those files/dirs reappear afterwards?
In addition, the keypad is hard to get to work for keys on the outside of the screen.

DLNA Sharing not working on International S3

Hi, can someone help. I have the S3, rooted, and tried yesterday to go into settings, more settings, nearby devices, file sharing. However all of the options including the `radio' button is greyed out?
Has anyone else come across this?
I thought it may have been kernel specific, I was using Franko's R14, so I re-flashed the standard build I9300XXBLG8 with the root maintained but still no joy?
Can anyone help?
Screen shot attached!
Thanks

You might have already tried this but just keep taping on the file sharing switch, my phone was doing the same thing with all the buttons grayed out but i just taped that switch like 10 times and it ungreyed and started to let me turn it on and off.
Sorry if you have tried this already.

Thanks for the help, just found the answer in another thread, I had to goto settings/application manager/click the ALL tab, scrolled down to the `Nearby devices APP' and clicked Cleared Data, went back to settings/more settings/nearby devices and it worked. Thanks to whoever posted that!
Worked for me
I had the same problems, eventually fixed it by removing the micro sd card, clearing nearby devices data and restarting the phone. Once I confirmed everything was working, I reinserted the micro sd card and now everything works as it should. I hope this helps someone.
Didn't work for me. Only for the first time after deleting the data it worked, the on/off switch was enabled immediately. When I went to the menu for a second time, I had to wait for about 15 seconds, before the switch became enabled again.

Mines still borked too!
I've read that even doing a factory reset still doesn't sort it, maybe its an issue with firmware? I'll try deleting cache and dalvik cache in cwm to see if that helps.
. . to confirm clearing nearby devices works but only temporarily
edit / update:
well it seems clearing the cache and dalvik cache doesn't seem to do any good either, but I had some success.
Firstly I cleared nearby devices cache / data again (whilst I was in the vicinity of my wifi network with wifi turned on on the phone at the time, don't know whether this is important but it seemed to kick things into working for me at least)
The dnla settings became live again, but I noticed my wifi icon was gone even though wifi was turned on on the phone, so I toggled the wifi button and heypresto things started to happen! and was able to see my phone on the PS3 and share files etc.
After I switched off the phone and rebooted (with dnla left in the on position) the dnla app was greyed out again, however a quick trip to wifi settings to toggle on and off again (and also remove some 'remembered' wifi connections that I no longer use) meant the dnla share started working again no problem (and without clearing any near by devices data again).
Hope my experience gives some pointers to others out there to get theirs working!.
Edit 2:
Still getting a grey DNLA inactive screen, but by turning your wifi off and on, on your phone a few times (in range of your wifi network) it seems to jump DNLA into life . . . hope it helps
Edit 3:
Seems that going into advanced settings in wifi (go into wifi settings not just turning it on) and altering the wifi sleep policy seems to correct the issue, I toggled from 'never turn off' to 'turn off', then back on again, and DNLA app seems to work fine now . . ...

i have tried all your recommendations through 3 edits and it does not seem to fix my dlna. i still cannot turn on file sharing without clearing data in applications manager. how do we tell samsung about this. this is the only problem ive been having with my phone so far.
I also wrote some work around here:

open the window and wait 5-10 seconds and it starting then Disable content "music","images" and "videos" in the nearby devices settings, and tne next time it works fine!
I've been having this issue since day 1 of getting the phone, took it to store and they couldn't figure it out and said as it's not a fault they couldn't exchange it. For me it was a fault as the main reason I got the phone is to stream media to my TV and the blu ray in living room. Thanks to this thread I am now able to do this, tapped on some of the options several times until a pop up appeared and got it working.
Seem's like a odd bug which I hope Samsung update with the JB update.
Connect to your wireless router with your wifi
then toggle your wifi direct on
go in near by devices and wait until screen come to life (not geyed out)
don't touch the screen while waiting it doesn't help.
it can take a second or two or even a minute or so (keep the screen on by looking at it)
when it light up it's up and running.
DLNA greyed out
FYI:
I found the problem to be related to the number of files (multimedia in general so mp3, jpgs, mp4 etc) on your external SD card: if you have several thousands of pictures and mp3 files like I do on a 32GB or 64GB SD card, it is near impossible for this service to enumerate them without lagging(!). You can see for yourself by simply unmounting the external SD card (settings -> memory -> unmount SD card) and then entering the DLNA sharing: you will see the option turns white after a mere second and you can enable or disable the service rather quickly without problems. Even if you untick the sharing of Video, Images and Music, after mounting the SD card and re-enabling the DLNA sharing service, you will still see the option greyed out. It is trying to enumerate in any case all the MM files on your SD card but takes a hell of a long time before it finishes, becoming white again. Why it is so slow is up to the developers to find out as it shouldn't. I suspect there is a scanning bug somewhere in the enumeration process.
You can enable a debug option which will popup a window if an app is taking a long time to respond or is hanging so you can see what app is causing the problem. You'll see that even after you go back to the main screen once you have selected the DLNA sharing menu (which is greyed out), the phone is sluggish as it is scanning the SD card and after a couple of minutes the warning will popup allowing you to terminate the service or wait until it is finished. You can enable this option in the developer options page, last setting "show all ANR" (or NRA as mine is not in English). I suggest you all to keep this option always enabled as it will give you more insight on what apps are causing your phone to lag and are problematic.
This should be reported to the developers at Samsung or Google/Android as I'm certain it is not a major problem to be fixed.
My S3 has currently build BLH3.
As a side note, unfortunately my popcorn A-110 which has DLNA support, is no longer working with the S3 built in "share" button that pops up in the player (top left): it sees my popcorn but when I try to "export" the song clicking on the button, it just fails to playback. Similarly, when I enable the DLNA sharing, my A-110 sees my S3 but only see the images but it fails to show them. It doesn't even list the songs. This is a fimrware big in the A-110 though (it seems it only lists jpgs and avi files and not mp3 files). My LG P990 does however work with my A-110 correctly playing back songs (though the scanning function is not working) and images. I guess it's time I got a more recent popcorn though it'sa pity as mine work so well for over 3 years.
Anyhow, I hope this shed some light on the matter
Edit: sorry guys, I just read the post by foo - so this one's kind of a double :/

Hi
Yes I think this is main part of the problem.
However I think this part of the problem is caused by a combination of the type of SD card and the mounting of the card.
I was using all the tricks mentioned above then I discovered what you did.
What seems to be causing the SD card problem is the mounting of the card it don’t seem to mount properly (even though the rest of the phone seems to operate fine). I simply unmounted removed card remounted repeated a few time. That seemed the get a more stable mount…..
On some phones I’ve found it necessary to remove SD card contents to a laptop and reformate the SD card in the phone. Again I reformatted the card 2 or 3 time for luck (not in laptop but in the phone). Put contents back on and the phones can now access the SD card without problem…

Yes, I had formatted this SD card on my prior phone (LG P990) though I did not reformat it on this phone. I have had the problem you mention before on other flash devices and it appears the mere disposition of the files in the sdcard/ssd influences access times for certain files depending on where they are (all controllers now write files in random blocks to avoid cell deterioration). This all leads back to the diatribe about defragging or not flash / SSD devices. This really depends on the controller inside the flash device basically. In any case, simply defragging the SD card DOES help, and resolves the laggy access problems most of the time. I will do this on my Sandisk 32GB SD card (again) and see if access times improve and this lag problem improves. On a side note, writing the whole card with a certain hex pattern also helps the access times. I do this regularly on my SSD device on my laptop after I delete/defrag many files. If I don't, it starts lagging like hell after some time.
Cheers

Remove Mcafee Lock Lg G Vista D631 (solved)

Hello friends, this is my first post, I do it because, I got tired of looking for a solve to mcafee's lock in the LG D631 and no method served me, I could solved it thanks to an error of mcafee with the talkback here is the Explanation of how to solve it.
First of all, you have to arm yourself with patience but with a lot of it, well let's start.
1-First we turn on the cellphone after a hard reset and in the second that lasts mcafee to lock the screen we activate the talkback.
2-We put a sim card in the cell, I used one of at&t
3-When we turn on the cellphone, we touch the emergency call and then the mcafee will give an error, we touch Ok and this will close the obnoxious mcafee for about a second, letting us enter the cellphone
4-We'll start to touch the emergency call and the 911 to cause the error and thus to be able to start the cellular, bone, to leave the first configurations giving next and next until the cellular one initiates.
5-Once started the first thing we are going to look for is "setting / general and looking for accessibility" once there look for talkback, look for the options and takeout the check to "explore by touch" this is for talkback works with a single touch and do not have to select and touch two times
Note: All this is going to be done by touching emergencies and 911 to make them throw the error and give you ok to enter by the second that allows you.
6-After this you are going looking for an SD memory and download kingroot and unistaller pro, put it in that memory and put it in the cell phone.
7-Enter in the file explorer and install kingroot (Do not close it) and make root the cell phone.
8-After being root, enter the file explorer again and now install unistaller pro (open it) and open it immediately look for the obnoxious mcafee and uninstall it, reboot the cell phone and you are free to use the cellphone.
Tell me if this worked to you and give the thanks is for free

Tell me if this worked to you and give the thanks is for free
sorry for my english, i'm dominican

Nicely done! :good:
I started working on this device with McAfee and also noticed that there is the small window of time before McAfee opens up to be able to use the interface very briefly. I have another method that JUST almost works as well, except that I haven't been able to time it just right because talkback takes x2 taps to work. So definitely very, very nicely done that you were able to figure out how to make it only single tap and then from there finish the phone. Impressive
