I think that you have some trouble with ip....
You can try to put in your htc this ip:
192.168.5.2 (ip)
255.255.255.0 (s.mask)
192.168.5.1 (getway)

Explain more pls.
Until today I didn't use wifi.
Because there is no wifi network in my area.

This requires ROOT access, the Mini has not been rooted AFAIK

It was rooted like a week ago or so but no one knew. But on friday both Bin4ry and Kaladan(?) released different ways of rooting the Mini. I Used the one on andoid.doshaska sinced it seemed a whole lot easier. google x10miniroot and you'll get what you need.
(still cant post links... srry)
Worked like magic for me and the wifi tethering is awesome.

Works like magic! First thing i did after rooting.

Its the same as you said in the first post. Choose an ssid, disable wpa-supplicant and go. (no password possible)
Sometimes it helps to leave WAN and LAN empty and remember to associate the network to find it and a second time when you connect (not really necessary but i believe it goes faster...)
Also the ad-hoc network might disconnect when phone goes into screensaver (at least for me) so just disable that one while tethering.
It is awesome when it works.

Hi All...
[EDIT]
from Bernacle FAQ:
All I see is "Starting..."
Barnacle is waiting for the ConnectivityService to announce that your mobile data network is connected. You might be in an area of poor coverage.
SOLVED

I am x10 mini pro owner and confirm that this WiFi tether works. Just follow the directions from first post (you MUST disable wpa-supplicant).
Also, tether doesn't work when phone goes into screensaver.

Here another mini pro owner. after rooting with universal androot v1.6.1. i installed barnacle. It works without security.
Now, I have a question.....and I feel stupid, because I have the feeling the sollution is so obvious...... but I'm a newbee, so I can make stupid mistakes .....I tried the mac adres security, but for some reason when I want to enter my pc's MAC-address (under BSSID) I only get a numeric keyboard......and since a mac address is hexadecimal..... so I tried converting hexa to decimal and enter that.....invalid entry..... how do I get mac address access control to work?????

[Q] Connect to a 802.1x EAP network?

Hello XDA devlopers,
I'm trying to connect to a WPA EAP network in my school, or a 802.1x EAP network as my mini pro regocnizes it.
when trying to connect it asks me for a password/password consisting of 8 letters/numbers.
i have tried using the same methood we do for our laptops we use at our school wich is a Unique SchoolID and a password. but that doesn't work since it want whatever i write to match the first line of password.
However, when just writing something random like 8 number 1 digits it goes on and asks for a connection type were i can choose from EAP, WPA and etc where i chose EAP because thats what im guessing our school uses (i'm no network technichan so i dont know anything about wireless networks at all, otherwise i probably wouldn't post here for help lol.)
But when i have choosed the connection type it tries to connect for like half a second and then stops and goes back to sleeping mode or searching for new potentional wi-fi/wireless networks.
Please note that my phone is a Sony Ericsson Xperia X10 Mini Pro device with default 2.1 sony ericsson stock rom and no root, aswell as the standard app to connect to wi-fi / wireless networks. (Settings > Wifi & Mobile networks > Wi-Fi)
If i have written this in the wrong thread or have written something not understandable please PM me and i will try to correct the text.

I would suggest looking up on your school's website to see if there are instructions for setting up the internet on your mobile device. I would assume they have instructions for different platforms.
I struggled to get it working at my school in which i had to get a certificate installed and blah blah blah. I can't remember if i got it working or not, it's been a while. I remember hitting a problem with WPA2 authentication on the mini pro. Hopefully you can get it working.

But I've talked with our computer technichan team, but they said that they dont care and wont give support to anything else than our laptops, i also checked our schools website page and there were no instructions on how to connect, not even with our computers. only found a page telling us to visist the computer technichans if we experienced trouble.
So sadly, they wont support or help me with this. Any other suggestions?
Edit: i went there again and had a talk with a diffrent person, who seemed to have an android phone aswell, but he said that a certificate is needed to connect, atleast for the laptops in our school, but sadly he couldn't give it out because it was aginst their rules to do so. He said that he used a non-protected guest wi-fi that is aviable for our school, but to connect that you need a username and password aswell, and he couldn't give me one unless i was a guest at the school. And what iv'e heard about the guest one is that its suckey anyway so if there is any other solution i would be very happy.
Edit 2:
I have been using ubuntu on my school laptop before and got the wi-fi working without installing any certificate, but then i just selected to use EAP-PK2 something when editing settings on how to connect to the wifi with the ubuntu laptop and then filling the boxes with my schoolID login credentials and got it working.
And Android is based on linux so there should be some workaround for this?
Very Thankful for any answers about this.

I dont think it is possible for me to set up and proxy for the schools network.
They only have blocked one port and i think thats port 22 or something for security reasons, no other pages are blocked afaik.
Im starting to need the wi-fi access at school badly, i think i could pay whoever came up with a workaround or solution that works lol.

Even is an old thread I see no point in opening a new one.
So, I bought android (4.2.2) mini pc and created a pc out of it, but I am having trouble with connecting to students network cause it has 802.1x authentication, and you login with faculty username and password.
On windows we use Securew2 software and that solves problems, but when connecting on android I cant find any options to select EAP or TTLS authentication, anyone has a clue?

PDANet works on mine. I think wifi tether will work if you're rooted. I am not rooted, so cannot say for sure.
I just rooted. I installed wifi tether. The phone makes it look like its working but if it does not show up in the network list of any of my devices like my laptop and my tablet. Anyone have wifi tether working after root?
I used the 3.2 beta of WiFi tether on my rooted photon and it worked great for me.
Which WiFi tether are you using? Who is the author? Did you get it from the market?
Nevermind, I picked up Barnacle Wifi from the market and it appears to work fine. I am posting this message from my Macbook over the barnacle wifi on my photon

Scratch this! The Barnacle program does work but when you turn it off and I did this twice to repeat it, I had to reboot my Macbook, my phone and for whatever reason why my home router in order to get my Macbook and Photon to connect to my home network again. I can confirm that WiFi Tether if you go to there website the 3.1 Beta 2 appears to work perfectly on a rooted Photon. My phone now shows up as a network and with security on and everything my tablet and laptop surfed the net no problem.
I disagree 3.2 doesnt work , the best you can get is adhoc and it tells you that access control can not be enabled
I can confirm that my paid-for copy of PDAnet 3.02 works on my Windows laptop w/ my non-rooted Photon over USB. However, PDAnet does not do wifi tethering.

Just a heads-up for anyone trying to connect to WiFi Tether with some/most Android tablets (like my Xoom). You might need to modify your device to be able to join ad-hoc networks. For the Xoom, it was as easy as replacing the wpa_supplicant binary.
Before I changed that file, my Xoom couldn't see the wireless network that my MoPho was broadcasting.

Now that we have permroot, wireless tether?

So now that we have permroot, is there a wireless tether app that works? I tried the one here:
http://www.jonamerica.com/technology/the-htc-rezound-root-guide/
But although it starts, I don't see the ssid on my laptop. I think perhaps infrastructure doesn't work with that. I'd prefer to avoid ad-hoc.
So has anyone had success with a particular market or apk for wireless tether?
Thanks in advance!

Ive tried a couple versions of the usual Wireless Tether.apk, but I still only get wep as an option. Trying to find a way to get WPA2 to work.
I am using "Wireless Tether for Root Users" V2.0-7 and its working perfectly. None of the newer beta versions have worked correctly for me so far..
It seems to work in ad-hoc mode only though... but it works fine for me. I'm not using WPA either, I just leave it open with access control turned on.
Barnacle
I'm using Barnacle Wireless Tether from the app store and it's working EXCELLENT. Even brings over the 4G speed but is also working in Ad-hoc mode.

No wifi modes work in infrastructure on the rezound is my understanding. Adhoc only.

New Wireless Tether
Barnacle
None will work. No signal comes out at all. The data counter will get to like .4kB and just freeze.
Yea, but i read that new wireless tether beta app, the dev was wanting to get it where it can support infrastructure mode, but only a few phones would be worked on....idk if its still in the works or not...

Some devices do and some dont detect ad-hoc networks. Until we get a custom kernel capable, and software to manipulate it, we're stuck with ad-hoc only, which works for like, 95% of devices that would need to connect to it.

Sent from my ADR6425LVW using XDA App
Stock fires don't. There is an app called zt-180 ad-hoc switcher that let my fire connect somewhat. No secure sites though
sent from my newly unlocked Rezound
How do you share the connection with ad hoc? Never really used it before.

[Q] Wifi tether

I hate to sound like such a noob. I havent got wifi tether to work on my [Sprint] HTC ONE MAX. At first i was just rooted and just using the app and couldnt get it to work. Then i wiped everything and use MOM ROM(MIlesOneMax) and i still cant get it to work. Looking on my phone theres no errors in log. Yet i cant find no other device computer, phone, etc... that see my phone for wifi. Am I doing something wrong,
drove me crazy for 2 weeks till somebody pointed me to right app, tried every wifi tether released and pdanet/foxfi, the only app that works for me is "wifi tether router" from the playstore....cost almost $2 but it works

did u had to put special settings because im not getting this one you recommending to work either
Great support from the Wifi Teather Router developer, don't be afraid to contact them as they had very quick response for me.
The settings they gave me that worked for my One MAX on Verizon (rooted and s-off) was:
Interface wlan0
Method 3 - HostApd
Channel 1
Encryption wpa2-psk
Drivers nl80211
"HostApd Patch" <- UNCHECKED

For $2, it is well worth it instead of trying to get some other free service as a work around:
