format the SD card - Sony Ericsson XPERIA X10 Mini

Can I format the SD card without it ruining my phone?
will this mean i loose root access or anything like that?
Will the phone itself index the SD card with folders that it needs?
--
asking since im unable to repair the phone using Sony Ericsson PC Companion 2.0.
but am able to reinstall the firmware using seus.

well i just tried it out, formatting the card seems to work fine, looks like the phone itself creates the folders it needs when it needs it.
not sure how i can see if the phone is still rooted, since superuser and all that is removed from the sd card now.
---new---
so if anyone could tell me a way to see if the phone is rooted it would be much helpfull.
and could someone say how cellphone repaire shops see if the phone is rooted

try to install superuser.apk and a terminal and then type su in the terminal, if you get #, then your phone is still rooted. but i think it'll be rooted, but the only thing you're missing is the superuser app

okay.
I´m asking since im selling the phone, and the guy would like it unrooted.
so atm it´s as unrooted as possible ? since we got no recovery for it yet.

We do have recovery, just not custom recovery.
Use either PC Companion or SEUS, plug in the phone, select Update, it'll tell you that you have the latest version already, but there should be an option to force the update / repair, which should put you back to the default firmware without any mods

[Q] X10i stuck on booy screen

my cell phone is stuck at the SE logo.i was doing some "experiments" on xrecovery when i choose some option(dont remember i think it was format system). i cant connect it to SEUS or flash tool or pc companion.
note: when i connect it to the charger the cell turns on but it is stuck on the SE logo.when i connect it on the pc it doesnt do anything!! any ideas?????
You messed up big time. Why would you format the system without an image to replace it with?!?! The files for recovery are in the system as well and you totally erased everything. I don't know what you could do now if you can't get in flash mode. There is a warning about that option in the thread so why would you think it was a good "experiment" to format your system? I mean 'Format System' is pretty self explanatory. I think you are SOL, try and hit up Z and see what he says.

If I (or anyone for that matter!) help you, dont be afraid to press THANKS!
Did you use system wipe? If so your probably going to need to repair with Seus and start over. I don't remember a format system option but system wipe I do. I could be wrong though and I'm too lazy to reboot to xrecovery to check. I do believe you should be able to access flashmode even if you did wipe and leave it that way.
Sent from my X10i TripNMiUI using XDA App
There is a 'format system' option. I believe its under advanced or one of the other submenus. A 'Full Wipe (factory reset)' you can restore. Formatting the system removes the system folder where recovery files are stored and formats everything. There is an explicit warning in the thread not to use that option.

OK I stand corrected. I do believe however that if the Sony Ericsson screen shows the bootloader is still active and you should be able to use flashtool to fix it.

take the battery out, and start the flasher, point to the firmware you want to flash
insert batery, hold <- (BACK) KEY ans plug the usb
should be flashing because your boot is ok
you should flash with an official rom 2.1 (my advise) because contains baseband and all files necessary to a good boot
reflash your BB firmware. Try to use the same one as you originally had or as close as possible. There are plenty of guides here on how to do it.
Hi have ran into the same issue a while ago.
I have been playing & swapping ROM on my HTC Desire for more than 6 months, so I decided to play my Xperia 10i.
The problem I had was I was changing Cyanogen to MIUI and I was in Xrecovery, doing full wipe, system format and I accidently do a reboot. And it as what stuck as SE Logo screen.
I am trying now to flash using FTF, and SEUS.
I will post it later when I have any progress.
UPDATES:
SEUS said that my phone software is up to date. However, I am doing a force update again. Looks good, the software is currently downloading.....
UPDATES:
Managed to salvage and unbrick my Xperia using SEUS back to 2.1.
Now redo the Busybox and Xrecovery again.

That process is quite quick, just use flashtool to install those files.
Next time make sure you read the flashing instructions clearly before flashing a custom rom to prevent troubles.
And DON'T use the format system function in xRecovery as you would screw everything up.

i experienced the same problem. I got flash tool and i used it to flash my x10i.
i unchecked the "wipe user data" option and then flashed with the generic firmware (because that is what i was using). i have all my old apps on it after the flash
My x10i is now back to normal..
can't identify my x10 with flash tool
hii there..i just bought my x10 and stupidly formatted system!! im trying to use flash tool..but how can it recognize my phone as it still stuck on SE logo?!!
pls....help
and how can i flash a ROM using it
Keep calm, you CAN fix it with PC Companion, just open PC Companion, click on firmware update (or something like that) its going to tell you that there isn't a phone connected then click on repair phone (or something like that, it appears like a blue hyperlink) and follow the instructions.
You need to have at least 50% battery before attempting this.
I have screwed my phone and fixed it twice xD
Next time make a Backup with xrecovery it will save you more than once :O

Reboot Mufed Up

So I did something, turned off my phone, and now when I turn it on, it will show the Sony Ericsson screen then half a second of the AT&T screen then it will shut off and restart everything and it does this over and over and over until I take out the battery. I have a x10a running on 2.1 update and I have no idea what to do.
Sony Ericsson companion wont do anything to help me out by doing the "hold back button and plug in".... it says "update not available". Also my phone won't let me hard reset I really don't know what to do so can you please tell me something to do? I've been trying to fix it since about 3:00pm yesterday and its about to drive me crazy!! So please write back, Thanks!

[Q] Android malfunction...

Now, first and foremost, Hello to the XDA community and this would be my first post. I am having issues with my Xperia Neo V and I can't find a solution for it.
I admit that this is a stupid mistake on my end so let me start my story and I am hoping to get some assistance from a reputable community such as this.
I was installing some games via Google Play and I realized that my phone's internal memory gets full kinda fast as it is where files are saved by default. So, the genius me, tried to remove some stock apps that may contribute to useless disk space using Titanium Backup. All went well and I deleted a couple of stuff and it worked fine then I decided to restart it to factory settings (without doing backup which I regret up until now). I had several malfunctions after it rebooted again:
Whenever I am trying to go to phone book, I am unable to just press the number to make a call. I need to select edit contact first before calling
The middle button (the one with a house Icon, probably called Home Button, does not respond at all so I having a hard time quitting apps
the worst part, I am unable to connect the phone properly using USB. What happens is that when I plug the USB, the charging symbol on the battery bar shows it's charging (like plugged to a wall jack) but the computer does not show anything, regardless if it's Media transfer mode or Mass Storage mode (mass storage shows an empty drive in My Computer). I tried using other usb cables and other memory cards and apparently, it does not work. Other USB cables that works on other xperia neos yeild the same result.
What I was planning to do initially is to update the firmware (currently on 2.3.4), but updating via WiFi shows it's updated, and using the PC Companion does not work.
I know I deleted something that I should not and I'm at a loss. Later, I will attempt to connect my phone in the PC Companion to try and update it to ICS connecting it to my private wifi. Hopefully it would do the trick.
Another work around that Im thinking is to look for someone that does have a backup of the apk files so that I can restore them again in my phone.
Can anyone please assist me on this? T_T
I recommend connecting the device to your PC companion and using the repair option. If that doesn't work, try flashing a stock ROM from either Wotan or get one somewhere from these forums (I'm sure there were a few in the development section)
Good luck

Why don't you just flash an orginal rom (.ftf)?
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1678690
And then (after you get what you deleted) you just need to get them into your phone. If you were able to uninstall it, you!re having root. So send it to the phone via bluetooth or download from somewhere via wifi (if the USB doesn't work as you told) and using some file explorer move it to their directory and reboot. I think it should work

~sir...I cant find where that repair option is..
~by the way, the wifi option to connect looks pretty useless, it seems that you need to connect via usb on the "pairing" stage...
Ok here's my idea. Get any stock based rom from the dev page (there's a list in the sticky posts) and male sure it's the proper version. Then download the zip file and open it up. Find system/app or system/data/app or something similar inside the zip. Then simply copy and paste the apps from there to your phone, and don't forget the proper permissions.

If you can put the files into SD card, then use whot venoma333 says and do it through SD card - you can move a lots of files together (for example using ES file explorer).
Or you can try to connect your phone to S(E)US or Flashtool. If it would work, that will be the best for you And I think, that in PCC is some option to "re-flash" your phone (like somebody told here). On the top it says if your phone has the newest firmware version or not. Click on on it and you'll get a window with reapair option
Ok, I'm going to attempt to flash and I reached the xperia website (unlockbootloader.sonyericsson.com/instructions), and based on the instructions, I checked if "Bootloader unlock allowed" is set to yes, unfortunately, my phone says no.. Can I still continue the process??If not, is it still possible to do manual firmware update without unlocking the bootloader?
There is no need to unlock bl for flash process. So forget that page, for now.
You mentioned pc companion, what happens when you start pc comp. and connect your phone(turned on)?
If it doesn't connect to pcc, go to device manager on your pc and tell me how is your phone named there and does it have yellow ! mark next to it?
This is the last thing that I think could possibly work, does anyone know an android 2.3.4 iso nandroid? I think that's the best way to do it for now..I am unable to do the hold back button while restarting, does not work for me

Nothing happens in PCC, it will show that no devices are found. In DM, it shows:
-Sony Ericsson sa0102
|_Sona sa0102 ABD Interface driver
I was trying to update it using PCC, it recognizes the device after I mount the memory card.
What I have done, I restored the system using CWM using this link:
http://forum.xda-developers.com/archive/index.php/t-1630348.html
It worked, however, since the carrier and model brand is not the same, I was unable make my sim card/carrier to work.
My hope now is to get an ISO file for android version 2.3.4 which is from a generic phone. I live in the Philippines and my carrier is SMART telecommunications.
Apparently, the update from the link is for a Verizon phone
If you want alot of space, use a small ROM. Alot of devs have come up with stock Xperia GB ROMs that are easy on memory. To fix, You'll need to flash the entire phone with a stock ROM. Then flash a custom ROM. Besides that, you do know you can transfer apps to SD.

[Q]can someone help me unbrick my MK16i Xperia pro

Gentlemen, I couldn't find a section for Xperia Pro, please excuse me if this is misplaced.
I rooted my MK16i from ICS 4.0. according to a guide here on XDA forum, with no problems (from 4.1.a.435 .. i think).*
Then I installed system tuner and backed up the bloatware and what I believed was obviously named as packages that support them. Things were working great and the phone gained some performance improvements.
UNTIL, I installed Viber and Skype, and niether were working. I thought I would fix it by restoring all the backed up services and apps. Once I did that and rebooted the phone, it became useless
THe phone keeps rebooting. I get to the XPERIA loading screen and then it restarts again
I tried to connect it to the PC to flash another ROM with the Flashtool, but it is not recognized. All I get is in the computer screen a removable disk drive, that is not accessible.
Note: I didnt update the firmware after I rooted.
Can anybody help?
have you worked with flashtool before ? because there hardly could be any wrong with flashtool. use the latest version with proper drivers.
and since you have rooted phone, have you unlocked your bootloader ? if yes, then flash any custom kernel, go to CWM, then place rom zip on sdcard and stright flash rom via CWM.
flashtool should work though. you can try on different computer.
If flashing a kernel or installing custom ROM sounds a bit out-of-reach, you can always go for the repair option in PC Companion. It worked for me when I had soft-bricked my Neo V (it wouldn't go past the SONY logo). However, be advised that this repair option will erase your phone's internal memory. Also, your phone will be brought on the latest stock ROM, so you will need to root your phone again.
Good Luck!!! :good:

I tried to do somethingn like this but sony companion itself cannot detect the phone either.
My question is, is there a brick that cannot be fixed? I took it to a shop today and still they cannot fix it.
Have you tried to use sony update service?
How are you connecting your phone to flashtool?
Can you show us log from flashtool?
New development:
Now I tried to flash the phone with flashtool 32bit rather than 64-bit and it detected the phone! I could even flash the only firmware in Aeonworld's post Here.
Now I can see the phone connected in my computer.
However, the phone still won't boot but when I power on it gives black screen and after a short while, the led on the side becomes green.
For some reason though, I cannot continue with the rooting steps in his guide.
So anyways, after the second reboot, not the first for some reason, the phone gets detected in PC Companion, and I installed the update and now it is working again :victory:
Thank you all for your support.

Good to hear that bro!!! R&D always makes a man better

No connections

Murphy's law is with me tonight. Tomorrow, I'm meeting someone who wants to buy my xperia P so tonight I plugged out my sim-card, deleted my stuff on the sd-card and did a factory reset. When I rebooted the device to check if indeed everything was deleted, my pc didn't recognise the device. I tried on an other pc but no reaction. I hear the connecting sound and get a notification on the pc that says "usb device not recognised". I tried installing the drivers via SUS but that didn't change anything. I then tried if my sim-card worked but the device gives a notification: the simcard could not be recognised. My simcard is working correctly as it works in an other cellphone. I then thought I could install titanium backup to search for an old backup but I can't even get the wifi going. I also installed other roms but I can't mount /system. The device I have is rooted and unlocked.
Could you help me solve this issue?
Can't understand the problem exactly, is the device booting? If it is what does it mean you cannot mount system?
You also say you have installed other roms, that require mounting of system.
What FW is installed?

The device was booting but now it's stuck on the Sony image (before the loading image)
The problem is: the device doesn't recognise any simcard. I can't turn on wifi nor does the pc recognise my phone.
When in CWM (when I try installing a new rom that was already on the phone's sd-card beforehand) I can't mount /system.
I can pick a ftf from my sd-card to install a rom but afterwards the problems stay the same: no sim, no wifi, no usb connection possible.

After a lot of cursing and sweating I managed to get it in fastboot, install an ics ftf and now it's updating via pc companion (wifi and pc connection work as before). The only problem that still exists now is the fact that the device doesn't recognise my sim-card. I checked if I didn't put it in the other way around but it's in the right position. I'm sure the sim works because I tested it in another cellphone.
Thanks a lot for helping me
I have never flashed FW with fastboot only kernels.
Maybe it have flashed, TA partition which is normaly not flashed?
Lets see after the update.

I'm sorry it was in FlashMode The update gives me an error but somehow after I rebooted, the sim is now recognised :s
The only problem now is that I'm stuck in JB but I'm doubting to try anything else.
This cellphone has been nothing but random misery to me for the past 6 months The problem with the randomness is that I can't show it to the service centers (they keep on telling me they can't reproduce the problem).
