What is the general consensus about including Fancy Widget in custom roms? It isn't warez because it is free, but it was pulled from the market for possible copyright infringement (looking a little too close to the HTC clock). I saw a post where a link to a modified version of Fancy Widget was removed, yet I have come across unmodified versions in roms. If I were to tear it apart and make my own custom graphics, it couldn't be infringing on HTCs look, but would the author of the widget mind?
Is is safe to include the original Fancy Widget, or a visually modified form in a custom rom, or can I expect the wrath of the mods or HTC to fall upon me?

Based on past issues with fancy widgets I would recommend NOT putting them in your ROM, let the user decide what they want to do. Just my opinion, other mods should weigh in as well on this topic.

I pulled the links to the rom I included it in for now. If people want it they should be able to find it, it wasn't that hard for me to find on Google after all.

Hey everyone, actually this rom would not bring anything new to u. I just mde it yesterday and started using it... thought I'd share it.

the reason he removed the sense widgets was because without rosie they cannot and will not work....

im on froyo like most people, but i was just wondering how much free space is there in this rom after removing all that fluff?
I like this ROM, I've been using evil's version and I want his batt % in this rom. Anyone know what files have to be moved into the system/framework folder to make it work?
I really like the idea behind this as I use something similiar to this on modaco 22.1. What's important to me though is that i cant use BetterCut with this, I'm not sure why.
Im not expecting you to fix this, just letting other people know. I think this might have something to do with the fact that rosie launcher is gone. Wild guess though.
A different forum I frequent has a thread dedicated for full theme and/or themed items for those who would like to have something specifically done and dont have the ability or knowledge to do so.
I used to theme for the iphone and would be happy to do some themeing here... but I havent put my foot in the water yet. After I learn how to theme for android Ill start, but for those theme makers who have time and would like to fill out requests, this would be great!
I for one until I get the hang of themeing android would like to see HTC sense page indicators in replaced of the large tacky dots on the stock rom.

I was wondering if it was possible to install stock ICS on the Galaxy S 3, while keeping new useful Samsung's functionalities (S-Beam, All Share Play, Smart Stay, Direct Call, Smart Alert, Tap to Top, Popup Play, S-Voice, …).
Actually, I would like to feel I'm on ICS on my GS3, and not on a Gingerbread-styled TouchWiz. I know I could install a third party launcher, but it customizes only the launcher, and not the status bar or the Settings for example.

CM-Zoom http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1698273 is probably the closest ROM out there atm, its Samsung ROM with a bunch of Cyanogen stuff included.
I dont know of any AOSP-based ROMs that can run the Samsung app suite yet.

Most Samsung features depend on the TW framework. So few things will probably never work on AOSP based roms. However, for a lot of the features you named, there are alternatives. For instance, pop up play isn't a Samsung specific feature. But overall, what you're asking for will not work. Maybe in time, but I wouldn't get your hopes up...

It's written "The Theme is just for deodexed Rom's and is tested on Omega V3-V5!". Is the stock Samsung ROM deodexed ? Even if I am a developer, I dont know much about Android development
If it turns out to be deodexed, I could adapt his project to my needs (as said before, I don't know too much but it's a good way to learn !)

What bothers me in TouchWiz is replaced apps like Calendar and Contacts. This cannot be solved by theming. Is it possible to install these separately ?
I know I am a little picky and want the best of the two worlds, but isn't that the strength of Android ?

You can install any replacement app you want. Some of them might rely on a certain framework though (e.g. Cyanogenmod) and might not work. But any replacement app from the Play Store should be fine.

Of course, but what about stock ICS applications I am used to use ? Isn't it possible to "extract" them from original ICS ?
ICS (afaik) requires vendors to include the original framework and theming so that apps don't break on heavily modified phones.
The goo.im stock apps should work, but create a nandroid backup before attempting to flash it through CWM

Download the CM9 Rom and replace the desired apps in /system/app.
Make sure you remove the samsung counterpart, e.g. if you want the original calendar, remove SecCalendar (or something) and calendarprovider, add original calendar and calendarprovider.
Don't be stupid and only replace what you really want!
THIS WILL NOT WORK FOR PHONE, CONTACTS AND DOWNLOAD!
There are many threads where they offer a black google apps pack, search for yourself if interested.

Not from me. Porting stock samsung apps to aosp roms is not easy. Samsung customizes android with mountains and mountains and even more mountains of additions. For better or for worse is up for debate but I'd argue for worse :cyclops: The name "Lagwiz" doesn't come from nowhere :cyclops:
The samsung apps then reference these additions. Someone would need to find those additions, extract them, and stuff them in the samsung app apk. Basically, the samsung apps apk are not standalone installers. Someone would need to put the effort to add the missing extras to these apks. Now I haven't seen the magazine ux, but if you want a more 4.0 ics launcher without the ugly dock at the bottom try nova launcher or adw.
Samsung has discontinued this tablet after only 1 update from honeycomb to ics. Talk about poor 1st party support. Bulls**t that "there's too little ram" or "the hardware's not capable". KitKat runs smoothly and can actually use live wallpapers. I've never been able to use live wallpaper without severe lag even back in honeycomb.

Not many innovations had happened in custom ROMs scene for a long time in terms of UI/UX design and overall development is more or less dedicated on porting existing "features". And I doubt that's going to change, since you need people who are capable of not just developing applications, but also who have knowledge of human interaction and design to create something different/new. No one would provide these type of skills for a free of charge, since these are more creative and not just simply technical. So demand of people with said skills are insanely high in the job market. That said there is enough opportunities for them to express themselves out there for a good pay. Not to mention it's not a job for one person but a dedicated team.
So the best that you can expect is ports of said apps and ROMs. And I'm not completely sure, if these specific ROMs that you have mentioned are ported, but I'm certain that you can find quite a few of them from a different (to your mentioned) manufacturers out there. And of course, these types of ports might not be perfectly stable or functional, since, in most cases, you would need to reverse engineer parts of them to make sure they are working fully as intended, because they might not be available as an open source material. So it's not really that simple. But if all you need is a ROM with Samsung's etc. apps, I'm pretty sure you can do that yourself by changing included apps with the ones you like... Not to mention the fact that most of the time - by default - if not in apps, you spend by looking at a phone's launcher. So change that to the likes of Nova or sth. which lets you customize your experience to something more unique.
