[Q] Unable to roll back to 1.6 ROM on UK/O2 Streak (21) - is it possible? - Streak 5 Android Development

Has anybody with a UK/O2 Streak (21) been able to roll back from the stock 2.1 (installed successfully) update to stock 1.6?
I have searched xda and modaco for days and have tried everything but I always get stuck at the same spot.
I am able to flash stock recovery but when I use option 2 to apply update.pkg from my sd card, it gets stuck about 1/4 of the way and says "Software is up to date. System will reboot in 30 seconds." And then when it reboots, it's still at 2.1.
I have also tried using clockworkmod recovery (several versions), which only seems to work immediately after I flash it (sometimes clockwork menu won't show up and it reverts back to stock recovery - are they being flashed to different partitions or something?). Using clockwork, I tried to apply update.pkg and when that didn't work I tried update.zip. Both get stuck on black screen.
I have tried using ROM Manager too, but that never works. It says it will reboot into recovery but ends up just rebooting normally back into 2.1.
I tried stock and custom 1.6 ROMs with no success.
Is there a way to force the system to apply the update.pkg even if it thinks it is already up to date?
Any help would be greatly appreciated. I have been pulling my hair out over this for days. Thanks in advance.

I am having the same exact issue as described above. "Software is up to date."
And then the device just reboots into 2.1 and starts the cycle of endless reboots.
Anyone got a solution for this?
Please help.

The guides in the stickeys do work I have gone from 21 back to 16 and back to 21 about 6 times
Sent from my Dell Streak using XDA App

Yeah but all the methods in the stickies need the use of a PC. I am on a Mac. Is there a way to use fastboot on a mac? Or a way where I can just copy the update.pkg on my sd card and use that directly?
When I use the SD card method, 1.6 refuses to install saying that the "Software is up to date."
Thats what I need help with.

Try this page
http://android.modaco.com/content/d...1-6-downloads-how-tos-rom-superboot-recovery/
It lists mac commands to load the recovery image to your phone.
MAC - Open a terminal window to the directory containing the files, and type 'chmod +x install-recovery-mac.sh' followed by './install-recovery-mac.sh'

Yeah I tried those commands but I get a "No such file or directory" message in Terminal. I have read a lot of threads here and over at Modaco but can not make head or tail of the issue or what to do.
I have a O2 Streak that I had put 2.1 from O2's official release using the Recovery mode and putting update.pkg on SD card. After that I have been having a ton of issues with constant reboots and sometimes getting stuck on Dell logo.
I wanted to go back to stock 1.6 and have been unable to do so. What are my options right now and how can I fix this? I would prefer to keep 2.1 but don't mind going back to 1.6 if that will be more stable.

stability
Sorry if i am incorrect about this.
As far as i can tell you want to stay with offical roms due to warranty.
I have heard that if you go back to 1.6 even though official, dell wont cover the warranty.
If you are not worried about try :-
The leaked 2.1 rom. I hear it is more stable than 02's 2.1 rom.
Or even go for stephen Hydes brilliant 2.2 roms.

I don't care about official or unofficial. I'll try loading one of the other roms. MY issues have been with getting the rom on the device though. Lets see.

Bricked Streak on 2.1 -> 1.6 O2 downgrade

I was successful at getting it to 2.1 from 2.2.
However, i had issues getting it to the O2 1.6 rom, i ended up using clockwork and the .zip rom of 1.6 and it flashed successfully. However, upon boot i was stuck at the dell screen.
After this i tried all recovery images to get back to 2.1 or a workiing 1.6 install with no avail.
Now im stuck with out being able to do anything but flash recovery images, but cant install a update file because it isnt recognizing my SD card after removing it for some reason.... i tried multiple cards with no luck either.
Oh and to be clear, I am currently on the Build 4399 (rooted, intended for O2 devices) rom with the corresponding clockwork recovery installed. Can not access my SD card now tho.
This just happened to me! Toto modaco and download stock recovery Tom and flash it with fastboot and then you will be able to do why you want

You need the modded stock recovery
http://www.megaupload.com/?d=8LDVERY4
I used this to downgrade before a warranty repair, worked for me
Which 1.6 build is this used for, O2 1.6 or US 1.6 6601 build?

This recovery image is to used to get you from O2 2.1 build 8105 to O2 1.6 build 4399. It worked for me after several days trying various guides and suggestions on other threads and sites.
I used this recovery image to Flash ROM Streak_104_4399_21.pkg which can be found on other threads.
-Christopher
That modded recovery bricked my streak I'm tryin to get back to 1.6 everytime i run this recovery after downgrading to 2.1 from steves 2.2, I have tried several recoveries and nothing seems to work so stuck on 2.1 atm.
(oh btw I used QDL streakfash to unbrick I dunno if that helps anything.)
It may not be relevant, but I had huge instability with my ROMs for a while, random hard resets, force closes, ROMs not taking properly etc, failed flashes even with 1.6 etc.
Turned out I had one of the bad batches of Streaks with a bad internal MicroSD card. I sent it back to Dell, they replaced the card, and all was well again. Perfect stability etc.
You can confirm this on the diagnostics menu.

[Q] I know it's been said before....bricked..

Yes, I know...it's been posted many times before but I still haven't read a thread with my particular problems. Ok, so here goes....I have a locked Rogers Streak that I tried to flash to DJ_Steve's 1.4.6 using the sticky, but of course it didn't go so well so I ended up stuck at the Dell logo.
Next I tried a bunch of recovery img's via Fast_boot, but still no luck. So the current situation is that I can get to the recovery menu and I can Fast_boot:
1) I've Fast_boot'ed to Clockwork img, but when I choose option 2, I get a black screen.
2) I've Fast_boot'ed to 309 img, and tried to just straight update to official Dell 2.2 Streak_315_12332_00.pkg, but I get an error saying that it can't mount the SD card.
3) I've tried this fix as well: http://weethomas.wordpress.com/ And that did flash, I was stuck at the Dell log and when I try to flash the recovery img again, it does not flash option 2 in the recovery menu even after a factory reset.
4) I'm a little bit tired and a little bit drunk right now and I do not usually post anything at all (as you can tell from my stats, but I've been a member since the Atom Exec days and can search the posts ), I am kinda stuck right now so a little guidence would be great.
Thank you all!
Just flash the stock A1.6 and than 2.2. If this works, please leave xda devs cause it looks like you don´t know what to do and opens threats we have enough of them

Update from 2.2 to new AT&T rom

http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=805112
I had Streakdroid 1.80.
Follow the directions above but only the last OC 1.6 to At&t 1.6
Make sure you have OEM recovery flashed. Streakmod etc wont work.
Put the 3 files on your current system. And the new rom on the SD.
Flash the boot.ing as instructed and then restart your current rom. After it finishes turn on development in the applications settings. Then reboot into recovery. Then install from update.apk this will install the new AT&T rom. If if fails flash boot.img again and repeat.
FYI: the new 340 does not look any different then the 318 or 170 for that matter.
DJ's roms are better and faster. But if OEM is your desire do this.
I'm on 2.2 318 and am trying to go back to stock 1.6 but after extracting all the system files to the sd, completing the steps for that and flashing the new boot.img- I can't get my Streak to boot fully into Android to apply the 1.6 update.... If I try to boot it sticks at the Dell logo, no animation, just the logo with all 3 soft keys lit. If I go into Recovery and try to apply the update, I get a signature verification failure error. I also tried a factory reset from Recovery but cannot get passed the logo.
I have done this a trillion times before without any issues. Why won't it cooperate now? I have one of the temperamental Streaks that only likes Official Stock ROMs. I get FCs and freezes out the whazoo on anything but so thats why I am going to Stock AT&T 1.6 and update to their 2.2...

Try using the repair tool that will put a 2.2 rom on it.
You don't have to go to stock 1.6. Just follow the instructions on your current system and it will let the new AT&T 2.2 install. I always to a factory reset before installing a new rom. That stops FCs for me.

Hi -
Could you be more specific on "OEM recovery"?
I have downgraded from 318 all the way back to US OEM 1.6 with BB of 31 which matches OEM version. Build number 6601. btw: I had to do a Nandroid flash to get it to 1.6.
It downloads the 340 update fine but gets hung up on the install process - stuck on logo.
Seems like I need to flash the right recovery but I always get a blank screen when I boot into recovery and choose update from SD card.
Can you link me to the right recovery file?
Thanks.

I do have a 2.2 rom installed already. I used the QDL tool to get it there so I shouldn't have to do it again... I tried updating to AT&T's new 2.2 yesterday from the 2.2 (318) I am currently on but it won't let me. I thought I had to go back down to 1.6 and get my update via notification but now my Streak wont get off the logo.
I hope this is making sense because from what you said, I don't think it does. Its hard to type what my problem is in a way that all can understand.
I am on Rogers and had the same problem. Was on 2.2 through QDL tool. I got an email from Rogers that their official 2.2 update was now available.
Downloaded the update, it wouldn't install.
Probably because baseband is different?
Anyway, did the same thing, tried downgrade back to O2's 1.6, then hopefully AT&T's 1.6, but got stuck after getting down to 2.1. Black screen during update.pkg, Dell logo only when just doing a normal boot.
Tried loading 1.6, 2.1 Rom's again to no avail.
Managed to get the phone working again using the QDL tool to get back to 2.2.
Tried doing the Rogers update again, but not working.
Help!

I can't get mine to boot normal unless I use the QDL tool to pull it out of the logo screen. If we already have a US Basdeband we shouldn't have to upgrade to O2 and back down again, right?
What do the people, like myself, do who are on the 2.2 318 via QDL Tool build to get the AT&T 2.2 rom released yesterday?? I am already on a US AT&T rom so what sense does it make to have to upgrade to an O2 rom and go back to AT&T (I am thinking out loud...).
I don't want Steve's ROM or anything else... my phone does not play well with those. I want the new official 2.2 released to AT&T locked Streaks.

There are three files that need to be in place. and a boot.img file that is installed from fastboot.
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=805112
Look at what he says to do the the 1.6 non at&t rom and do that to any 2.2 and it worked.
But really 318 is that same thing. and Streakdroid 1.8.0 is 100% better.

I finally bought root Explorer from the market. If there is a free alternative that can change your /system file to r/w (read/write) I could not find one.
You [email protected]!!!!!!!!! (no other alternative, dont think you are smarter than anybodye else, is non-negotiable) to move the 3 files over into your /system file, because the update will not go through. It says there is a "device mismatch" (or something like that). I tried to short circuit all the processes at every step and was unable to beat the system.
Heres what ya gotta do:
1. Follow the part about downgrading to 1.6, then check for software update.
If you have upgraded to ANY other version of 2.2 ya gotta move the 3 files over.
http://forum.xda-developers.com/show...92&postcount=4
Finally I gotta say that it is not worth all the fuss really. You lose tethering and installing outside apps. You gain nothing.
This release is best for djSteve, because he can take all the good parts of this build and put into his next release of streakdroid.

I have done all that, many many times before and it has always worked but this time it isn't working. I have done the root explorer thing. My phone will not boot passed the logo after all the steps have been completed. I cannot figure out whats causing the problem. I have downgraded to US AT&T 1.6 several times in the past with the method you and everyone else state but this time I am getting nowhere.

I hosed mine to a black screen that would not turn on.
The repair tool would not get it going.
I found streakflash I tried to get a link, I'll keep looking.
I launched steakflash.
I pulled the battery put battery and back on. As I plugged in the cable I held the UP volume button. Streakflash recognised it and I ran it through.
That got me back up. I forget what ROM it was. I then ran repair tool.
That puts 2.2 pre release.
If I can do it anyone can.

Thats what I'm trying to say... the only way I can get out of the logo is by doing this. Whenever I try, I get the silly logo and have to use QDL to get me unstuck.

Ok. Forget going to 1.6. Download the Rom and the files and. OTA won't work.
Follow the instructions and put the three files and the boot.ing on your 2.2 Rom.
Put the new update.pkg on the sd
Reboot recovery select to instal and it will install it.
I have done this twice.

Whats the malfunction with this? I have always managed to update in the past. Why won't this one go through?
First off I did quick scan of this post so if I am repeating I apologize in advance. You MUST go back to AT&T 1.6 with no Streakmod or Clockwork need Dell recovery program. 340 does a scan as it loads and if finds you modified the Steak in anyway stops the install. I had to purchase Root Explorer to complete my conversion, only thing I can say is Root Explorer is worth the money, as for 340, if you are running Steve's ROM with no problems stay with it. Here is the link to the instructions I used, http://forum.xda-developers.com/showpost.php?p=8558692&postcount=4, good luck.

If you install the three files and flash the boot.img file to a 2.2 rom and have the new 340 apk as update.apk on the sd it will install. I have done it twice. Once from 1.7.0.and once from the pre release 2.2.
BUT it is not worth the trouble. 318 is a better stock rom.

I could not be more serious right now when I tell you mine would not work that way... I had to go from 318 2.2> O2 2.1> O2 1.6 and am FINALLY booting into AT&T 1.6 as I type. A lot of people have Streaks that aren't able to do as yours did, mine is one of them. I don't know if its because my Streak is an older one, I bought it in August, or what the deal is but I was not joking!
All is well though. I have finally gotten it back to Stock AT&T 1.6 with my original baseband of 31. Now I shall see if I can go to the new AT&T Froyo...

[Q] need help with my white dell strek upgrade..

okay, i don't know if this is the right place to post this, but i have ran out of options.. i have searched and searched and still no luck.
so i have a white streak and been tryng to upgrade it to 2.1 or 2.2. followed all different guides, loaded the stock revocery img for 1.6 o2, when i try to flas hthe o2 img to o2 1.6, the process goes to about 20-40% it restarts itself and nothing happens, still back to 1.6.
okay, so i guess let's try the clockwork method, 1st time i used the 1.8.1.7 clockwork, with SteakDroid 1.9.0, it also installs half way and get a error message 7, it restarts, nothing happen..
then i tried using ClockworkMod Recovery v2.5.0.1, all i get is bllank screen, (for both different img file)
so i'm thinkin, maybe i need to root the phone 1st? so i flash it with superboot, tried 2 different version, one version got me stuck on dell logo, and the other version got me nothing but keep on restarting the dell logo. now my phone wont start at all.
i guess, okay, let me give the QDL tool a try, still doesnt work.. i get:
Run HEX success
ERROR[D14]: Streaming hello Failed!
ERROR: Download fail!
Please remove the battery and try again.
over and over again..
now my streak wont even startup, any one please help!?

I just got a white dell streak on ATT too and muddled through these forums trying to figure out how to get 2.2 on it (waited several days and no over the air update)
I am now running streakmod 1.9 and i think it is all good. I'll give you quick run down of what i did to get to official ATT 2.2
1. Download the official ATT update.pkg from the Dell Streak Wiki...
http://mobileupdate.dell.com/PackageProductionLocations/Streak_340_14844_31.pkg
2. Place the file on the root of your sd card. Since your phone is messed up, you can just take your sd card out and load it via computer.
3. put sd card back in your phone. now turn phone back on while holding down both volume up and down buttons and power button at same time. you should come to a screen with four options. pick option 2. The update package should run and when its done, your phone will be on the official 2.2
If you want instructions after that on how to get root and custom rom on your phone let me know. That is easy too, but it took alot of messing up on my part to find the right method. Some people think it is as clear as day, but i agree the info in these forums is a little fragmented.
Good luck!
thanks for the info, now is saying FOTA name mismatch, device will restart in 30 seconds, which recovery img did you use to flash this?
i used the dell recovery. i apologize, i believe i left out a step. you n
You need to go back to stock Dell recovery. Wiki page here:

File link here: http://mirror2.streakdroid.com/manii/340/recovery.img
do you know how to flash recovery from fastboot?
Once you flash that stock recovery, you need to follow the instructions. believe it should work after that.
is urs locked to ATT or unlocked? I have a white factory unlocked streak and I was able to upgrade to 2.2.2 with no problem...
im not sure if it being unlocked or not makes a difference but maybe it could.. when I get to my laptop, ill post wat I did and u can see if that works
but I can tell u I was on 305 rooted n I used QDL tool just to make sure everything was factory 305.. then downloaded the 345 AWS rom pkg from the dell wiki, renamed to Update.pkg n flashed using stock recovery n got no problems, then followed steps in the general sections to get root..
ill post the links n everything when I get home

Good point.
I didn't know they sold white unlocked streaks. Mine is ATT. If legend is using different than ATT, your probably a better help.
Everytime i get a new phone, i say i'm going to just stick with the stock software. somehow still, i always end up over at XDA complicating my life. Oh well... Thank you android...
QDL Tool
http://streakdroid.com/?page_id=15&did=8
345 AWS
http://mirror2.streakdroid.com/manii/Streak_345_15380_00.pkg
1 Turn phone off. Open qdl tool and hold VOL UP while connecting phone via usb. If you have the right drivers, qdl should recognize it. Hit RUN to flash everything and get back to a stock 305 rom.
2 Rename the 345 pkg to UPDATE.PKG and copy to ur sd card. Hold VOL UP + DOWN while turning phone on to get to recovery. Choose option 2 to flash the update.pkg. Let it run and just wait until the phone boots completely up. You will be at a stock Android 2.2.2.
If you want to root, follow the steps here...

[Q] Dell Streak 5 constantly rebooting with flashing lights

Hello. I'm a 55 year-old newbie to the wonderful world of Android, courtesy of my kid's continuously-rebooting Dell Streak 5 (AT&T, USA). It all started with the Froyo 2.2 OTA update in late 2011. The Streak would not boot after that update completed (WiFi - FIOS). We called Dell, and they advised that we Factory Reset it. That worked, and we thought all was well. Now several months later and 2000 factory resets later, my kid requested an iPhone for Christmas, and I re-claimed the Streak. I called Dell last week, and of course they wasted several hours of my time, ultimately telling me that my phone was out of warranty, but that for $249 I could buy a new phone. I advised several reps and a supervisor that Dell's OTA 2.2 update caused the problem, and that I should not be charged for any resolution to that problem. End of that story - here I am, after spending all of Saturday and most of Sunday attempting to downgrade back to 1.6. Here's what I have done:
I used SuperOneClick and successfully rooted the phone
I have used many recovery mods, ALL of which seem to lead to a black screen after selecting option 2. However, the Clockworkmod "alternate" recovery method did work. I downloaded a 4399 stock recovery zipped file, copied it to the Streak's SD card, then renamed the entire zipped file to "Update.zip". Then I used FastBoot, and flashed the Clockworkmod alternate recovery "recovery.alt.img" to the Streak. I used fastboot to reboot the Streak, then held the two Volume buttons, selected Option 2, and made my way through the awkward menu - but ultimately I was able to install "Update.zip" successfully. Upon the reboot, I am stuck with the Dell logo. I have tried factory resetting at this point, starting again from "scratch", only to return to the same old story: stuck at Dell logo. I read somewhere that it could take 10 minutes for the Streak to boot, but I have waited for 30 minutes plus.
An hour ago I was too frustrated to continue trying to downgrade to 1.6, so I read this thread: http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1334487. I used the clockwork 3.0.1.9 recovery method, and attempted to upgrade to 2.3.?. This was not an "alternate" method (which had not worked in two days), but after flashing the recovery.img to the Streak, and using the 2.3.? "Update.pkg" on the SD card, the Streak did begin to verify the package - then it started the update, then - REBOOT. The first time this happened, I waited for 30 minutes, thinking that the upgrade was happening in the background while displaying the Dell logo, as Windows updates sometimes do. But then I yanked the battery, and started that process again. The next time and every subsequent attempt to perform this upgrade results in a reboot as the "verifying package" is occurring.
At this point I feel as though I am spinning my wheels, so I'm putting out an All Points Bulletin for some advice and/or help.
Thanks in advance! John in Dallas
John, have you tried with another update.pkg? The thread you link to is from sreak 7, could that be the issue? If I was you I would try one of the 407 deodexed ROMS from http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1376896
I did not realize that thread was for the Streak 7. Thanks for pointing that out. I have tried several others, but nothing like what you have provided.
Being new to this technology, I have not yet quite grasped all the terminology and theory. Can I mix and match the recovery images with the Update packages? For example, where "TheManii" states that StreakMod must be pre-installed, then he provides a (407) base_v1.zip , is it OK for me to use the Clockworkmod recovery.alt.img (which has seemingly worked well on my Streak) with his base_v1.zip? Or MUST I use the StreakMod recovery image in conjunction with his base_v1.zip?
I assume that I am supposed to follow the same procedure as before:
- Save the base_v1.zip to the Streak's SD card - renamed to "Update.zip"
- use "fastboot mode" to transfer the recovery.img from PC to the Streak
- boot the Streak into recovery mode, select option 2
- then select the recovery option to load from the "Update.zip" on the SD
How long should it take to install the base and the update?
I understand that the "base" is just that, and I will also need to flash the "update", but the other "bloat" stuff is optional.
I will give this a try shortly - then re-post. Thank you!
I am not the expert here, but from what I've gathered you need the correct recovery image only when you are flashing an official update, since those updates come as encrypted ".pkg" files. I think (please check also the threads on flashing modified ROMs) that ROMs that end on ".zip" are not encrypted and don't need a special recovery file. I hope someone with actual experience on this can confirm if I am correct.
Edit: I just notice that the thread I linked to specifies that installing the matching "pkg" is a prerequisite to installing the "zip" -- this is admittedly more complex than I thought it would be. You are probably better off just installing one of the stock ROMs first just to recover your Streak -- I had recently updated to the 407 (Korean) Gingerbread ROM and like it very much; there are instructions of puttiing it here: http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1416718
John,
To flash a stock ROM you need a stock recovery.
To flash a custom ROM you need StreakMod Recovery.
Even if the files are not altered any ROM packaged as a zip is a "custom" rom.
To get you started (and get your Streak working) you should flash a stock ROM. I recommend BB 351 as the most stable stock ROM.
Put the pkg file for 351 on the root of your SD card named update.pkg
Use fastboot to flash the 351 recovery,
Use fastboot reboot to reboot the Streak and as it reboots hold both volume buttons to get to recovery
Select option 2 to install 351.
If you decide to use a different stock ROM the instructions are the same, just use the correct files.
If you really want Gingerbread then flash the latest stock GB ROM and then install the DSC version of GB. See the DSC thread in the development section for info.
I've been looking for a downloadable "BB 351" since you posted - cannot locate it. I found the base 351 zipped file, but not the "pkg". Any hints?
Also, when I first attempted that "407 - base_v1.zip" installation, I used clockworkmod, named the base_v1.zip to "Update.zip", and it worked to a small degree. After confirming that the installation was successful, I rebooted the Streak, and after 3 minutes I saw a "O" logo with "elloh" beneath it. Unfortunately it never entered into a "home page" - but rather the Streak reverted to the Dell logo, and that was that.
You might try the links in my signature to find what you need - the wiki is a good place to start.
Edit: the reason you had no success with the zip you flashed is because a ROM flashed from a zip is incomplete. That is why you need to flash the stock rom it is based on first. The ROMs packaged as zips do not install some needed system files, that is why you see instructions to install those first.
You have more reading to do before you understand the process of updating/modding the Streak.
I did locate the BB 351 package just seconds after posting that I could not find it. I've now bookmarked it. I continue to have not-so-good luck.
On the "407" Base_v1.zip installation, suggested by the first poster, the installation went further than any other attempt. I actually saw the "O" with "olleh" beneath it onscreen for a few minutes, but then, poof, it was gone - replaced by the Dell logo. If I am successful, will the Dell logo still be displayed, or will the "O" or some other logo replace the Dell logo upon a successful installation?
After downloading the 351 package and corresponding recovery.img, I reached one point where the status indicator bar reached 100%, but then everything apparently froze. Rather than panic and quickly yank the battery, I left it alone for 15 more minutes. There was no change, so I removed the battery and started again. Now, after many more attempts, I see the "Verifying Update", and then the Streak reboots. Each time I leave it for several minutes in hope that it is installing the Update in the background. But nothing happens. Just reboot after reboot - with Dell logo.
I know that I am very close, so I am not giving up. But I am worn out - PLUS the Super Bowl is starting right now. I'll pick this up again tomorrow night.
If anyone has any ideas or suggestions, please post - remembering that I'm a newbie and may not understand your technical slang, although I am a Telecom Engineer now working exclusively with VoIP, so I am technical. It's been fun tinkering so far, but it would be nice to reach a happy ending! Cheers.

Thanks for that tip, Marvin02. I do understand. Applying the base was step 1. I did not perform step 2: applying the update. Without the update, the base could not "launch". Unfortunately today I have returned to the wonderful world of IP Telephony, Gateways, UC, and Linux. At this moment I have no battery for the Streak, as I gave it to my daughter during the Christmas break. Yesterday I was using my son's battery, but he returned to college yesterday evening. I ordered a battery last Thursday, and it is due to arrive today. I was shocked to discover that the Streak cannot power on with only external power - it requires a battery.
I also know that I have merely scratched the surface of this technology. After I recover this Streak, I plan to install a ROM Manager, perform a backup, then experiment with other mods. But right now the mission is to revive the Streak paperweight.
Thanks!
ROM Manager and similar apps don't play well with the Streak. Don't use them.

Moving to Q&A
When you tried to install BB 407 you were installing a gingerbread ROM.
BB351 is a Froyo ROM. There have been some reports of problems reverting from GB to Froyo.
I suggest that you use fastboot to flash:
The recovery for BB 351 or BB 360
amss.mbn
dsp1.mb1
Then reboot to recovery and try installing the update.pkg.
For some reason some Streaks need the baseband files flashed first before the Froyo ROM will install properly. This happened with my Streak when reverting from GB.
blackscreen after selecting option 2
When i select option 2 from the recovery screen it is just a black screen. is there a way to fix this?
upgrade to Longthorn 2.6 is the most one I like
I flash the ROM to Longthorn 2.6. Strictly follow up the step.
My Dell Streak 5 now faster than before, no Dell Stage respone error anymore.
flashing light also resolved (read the instruction in [ROM] Longthorn 2.6 topic.)
