Themes for Handcent SMS?? Also is it possible to change the default/no contact image? - XPERIA X10 Q&A, Help & Troubleshooting

Anyone seen any themes apart from the default 2?? cant seem to find any. Also wondering if there is any way to change the very low quality default no contact image, its very blurry poor image and wouldn't mind updating it with something of my own
thanks in advance

As its on the same theme, can I also ask does anyone know how to change the settings for the Handcent widget? Don't like the dark background but I can't see how to change it. Would prefer white with black writing.

im useing the handcent app i love it! problem is when a get a txt i have to clear it in both the default message app AND the handcent. how can i remove the default message app? is root the only option?

Handcent - Settings - Conversation list settings - Display contact pictures
You can set your own account picture and that of others.
Also, if you go to settings - Account - Handcent Themes, register and you should be able to download themes.

is it possible to increase the limit of 160 characters?

no, I don't think it is

SMS Theme

wiredly I am unable to change SMS Theme ..Any one know why?
EDIT: Came to know after update there was no SMS theme for any one. Why? and what theme you have now for SMS? Mine is Grey background and Yellow,Blue bubbles
There is NO sms themes anymore in 2.3.4 afaik. So you have to put back 2.3.3 I guess, lol.
Everyone has this, as all have been removed by Samsung. You could always install a different SMS app, but that's probably not what you're here for .

Can you tell me what app could I use to get rid of Threaded SMS. I want Normal SMS back, with Inbox/Outbox etc...Please suggest one which doesn't put any extra pressure on battery.
Sorry for Off Topic query ,but had to ask.
Regards.
it is sad they removed it.Any one know the reason why they did it?

I know that Go SMS has an Inbox-Outbox feature. You use the settings menu to make that your standard view. Or when you have installed the app and you see the different contact-threads, slide your thumb sideways, you'll see the old Inbox/Outbox.

As to be on-topc, I have seriously no idea why Samsung removed the themes. Maybe they're up to something, but I seriously doubt that. We may see them back in the future but I seriously doubt that.

Remove Samsung apps from ICS

Hi, I believe I read that with ICS, Google made it possible to remove carrier and phone producer apps. I have been through the settings but can't seem to find where to do so. Can someone help me?
Also, how do you remove eg. the contacts or messages icon? Before the update it was no problem to replace the custom SMS icon with another app, but it seems impossible now.

go to PLAYMARKET and get ICONCHANGER (RootUser) and you can download icons from the APPandTHEMES or you can create them on pgn format ! its so f. easy
I think you misunderstand, I want to replace the stock SMS app shortcut with a shortcut to the Go SMS app. But thanks anyway

Edit: I found out, I remembered it incorrectly and it's just going to apps, edit -> drag icon down to the touchwiz bar.

[Q] System Sounds?

Ok, has anyone been able to figure out how to change the notification sound of the built in Email client? (Not Gmail). It's an annoying bell and I see no option anywhere to change it. I've been through the system settings AND through the email settings -- maybe I am missing something.
Also, is there a way to change the water sounds to the regular Android sounds?
Thanks in advance!!
Not sure about email client but to change to android sounds u need to root.
Extract ringtones u want from a different Rom...ie an S2 ics Rom for example.
Then use root explorer to place new tones in /system/media/audio/ringtones.
Reboot and the new tones should show up in settings for u to select. .
Hope this helps.

Mine show up under the email settings...
Open the e-mail>>settings>> select the email address that you have added... scroll to the bottom... Notification settings...
This is a per e-mail account setting so they are "hidden" under each attached account

Thanks! I'm already rooted, but there is no option to change touch tone sounds, even if I added more to the directory.

So basically it's just like the Gmail settings then? Cool. Thanks.
Found them, they are all in the UI directory. One controls touch, one is for back, etc. They all have to be changed in order to get rid of the 'water' sounds.
It's called: /system/media/audio/ui/
The two files I have found so far are:
TWTouch.ogg
S_HW_Touch.ogg
Now if I could just find the standard Android touch tones somewhere.

[Q] Anywhere to download the samsung stock messaging app??

I am currently running a 4.0.4 rom based off of the at&t official 4.0.4. I recently compared phones with my friends samsung galaxy note 2 also running 4.0.4 but the core samsung version, and i love their messaging appearance so much better. its the same, but the background is black, and their speech bubbles are blue and yellow. mine is white with blue and grey bubbles.
anyway to download this version for my messaging app? i am otherwise happy with the way my stock one works.
anyone got anything at all??

You should be able to change the appearance of the messaging app's speech bubbles and background, by going to the settings section in the messaging app and then under the display options section should be the options for changing background and speech bubble appearance.

I dont have any display settings within my messaging app at all besides font size. and the general display settings, nothing applies to messaging except the font style will change in messaging as well.
i dont think i can take it from my friends since its not rooted.

What I would recommend doing is using ADB on your friends device and using the adb pull command pull the messaging application from his device to your computer, and then install it on your device. The command adb pull /system/app/AppName.apk should get you the app you want.

Messages app - change font size?

Using the Samsung Messages app on my Verizon S9+, I am unable to permanently change the font size in the actual conversation screen. Yes, you can pinch to shrink and expand font size but that gets reset to standard size every time (unlike on the S7 Edge where it remembered your size preference).
Through Settings, you can globally adjust font size but the only Messages screen this affects is the main Conversation screen which shows all conversations. Once you click on a conversation, normal font size is presented. Frustrating for my old eyes...
UPDATE: Ironically, when you adjust Font Size in Settings, if you swipe the sample screen above the sliders, it shows you a sample Messages screen and the font size does change in the sample, but it does NOT change in the actual Messages app. Sounds like a bug to me as they are depicting what I want to do, just doesn't work.
I'd like to use the stock app as it has some features that are unique. There must be a way to change the font size so the setting is persistent, no?
Seeing the same also. Hard for my aging eyes to see.
And also finding it doesn't follow the global setting for size. Same as you.
Same issue. I don't think you can change the font size just for the Message app.
I when back to my beloved and trusted Textra SMS app.
It changes when you change the font size in display settings font.

As I mentioned in my post, this is not true. On my phone, changing the font size in display setting ONLY affects font size in the main Conversations view. Once you click on an actual conversation, the font size returns to the default tiny size.
You can get a newer version on apkmirror.com but it wont allow updating samsung apps for some reson. Anyone have the latest version of messages signed by samsung that will install?
They need ro bring back the S8 messaging app which has this inbuilt feature to adjust text. Wonder, why they ripped off that useful feature.

It doesnt stick.
I updated my original post with this tidbit:

Hopefully Samsung will acknowledge this bug and release a new version of the app. Clearly the global Font Size Setting is supposed to do exactly this.
Same thing. Very frustrating

It's really not that hard to pinch zoom. Takes a half second. Sure, it'd be nice if it would stick but, c'mon man.
I had a problem with the Background colors in the Messaging ap - some of the themes I like to use are really awesome but when I get to the messaging ap, they used yellow fonts on a white background - nearly impossible to read. I either have to use a different messaging ap entirely (Mood is a pretty good one I found that has TONS of customization options) or just guess at what was written - or change themes.
It's dissapointing that I can't change the balloons or fonts in the messaging ap any more - would be nice if we could - and change font size too - so for now, I am using the MOOD messaging ap and while I prefer the Samsung Stock one better - Mood isn't bad at all.
Its not only internal Messages app, Viber and Hangouts has really small font in input line. Tried increasing font size, tried toying with DPI settings. No idea why its like that and only affecting text input lines, but hope some later update could fix that?
Hi Everyone..I just got the 9 plus and the messaging app is different than it used to be. It is just blue bubbles with white background. It wont let me change anything like before and the setting the background wallpaper for messages is no longer there....is that how everyone else's is?
I also switched to Textra for the all of the customization that it offers. It's a free download so I gave it a try and I've stuck with it since. Just my 2ยข

No, not "come on man". It should work as designed, and has worked since GSI-II.
I use Chomp. Let's you change all of the fonts and sizes, including the message notification pop-up.

I think you mean, "It should work the way I want it to work." It IS working as designed. It's just that you don't like the new design.
That's not to say that I don't agree that it would be better if we could choose a persistent font size. I do.
But we're talking about a split-second pinch out to increase the size.
A split-second.
So, yeah... C'mon.

Thousands of people having to take a split-second to adjust for a design bug every single time? No. You're missing the point.
